lovely pub but my only complaint is that legaly when a drink has been served that drink must be supplied to the recipient no matter what the time is and in the case of my visit i bought a drink near closing time and as soon as I bought that drink it was taken of me which is not just illegal but also unfair so for this reason I can not recommend this establishment at all

We went to Alfie's for the Arsenal vs Liverpool match and all was swell. We carried on our night and went to multiple other pubs, causing no trouble at all. It was until we got to the Baker's Arms and were refused entry as it was too full. We returned 10 minutes later and every thing was fine. We were just about to order drinks and got kicked out for no reason, with the apparent 'landlord' pushing us out. We then went to Alfie's and were refused entry for no reason at all, as the 'landlord' from Alfie's must have communicated this to them. Confused as to why we weren't allowed to go in. Very disappointed.

We visited twice over a weekend. The first time was ok, service a little slow but it was a busy Christmas market weekend. The second time it was early evening and very quiet. The wine was average at best: there was only one ale available, water was served in a plastic beaker and the cleanliness of the toilets left a lot to be desired. On speaking to the bar staff, we realised they operate on a successful after midnight business model - and probably don’t really care too much for the sort of experience we were hoping for. Suggest avoiding unless you’ve already had a good evening out & want to finish off your night here with cheap shots and plastic beakers.

Don’t go to have fun because you can’t move from your table and they will take your money and refuse service if your slightly loud because covid you can’t stand from your seat! Also will ID you even when 35 years of age and because at that point you don’t bother taking it out because your past that they won’t serve your drink even though their bar staff look about 12 years old! A last minute evening away on Thursday to see an old friend ended with an evening drink or three at Alfies. We did not mind queuing to get in because when we were in we were shown to a table outside that was suitably distanced and sanitized, direction arrows on the floor and hand sanitizer with very quick helpful service and a good range of drinks on offer. The Blonde Lady on the door organizing the table plan and seating everyone deserves a medal. despite the large numbers trying to get in she was cool calm and collected and dealt with everyone promptly and dealt with a couple of rather rude obnoxious guests trying to breach restrictions firmly but politely and fairly. Would certainly recommend for a drink in a safe environment.

Recently visited Alfie's with my boyfriend, with this not being our usual we weren't expecting anything spectacular. On arrival the decor is very modern yet cosy and still echoes exactly the atmosphere you want from a pub. Ordered the veggie pizza (which was amazing!!) and my boyfriend the BBQ and we got chatting to the barman Ryan. Ryan's service and can-do attitude really made the trip away from our usual worth it for us. We planned to just pop out for some food and one drink but ended up drinking for quite some time with Ryan making an effort to check up on us and our needs whenever he could. All of the staff were very approachable and are a credit to Alfie's also. I think we have found our new usual so would highly recommend anyone thinking of visiting to give it a try!

Visiting Winchester for the Christmas market arrived at the venue about 1.30pm. Ordered 2 ploughmans one gluten free which means it comes without the rustic bun (all 30p worth). The platter arrived it had 2 pickled onions 2 small pieces of cheese roughly the size of a piece of dairylea, a few salad leaves and a slice of ham. The rustic roll was a cheap 30p bap, which is a shame as there is a good artisan baker just up the high street. The only thing on the plate of good quality was the ham. As a whole meal at £10.95 it was not value for money or great quality.

Decent traditional pub in Winchester at the King Alfred statue end of the high street. Originally called The Old Coach House - renamed after the town's most famous resident. Allows children, and does food, though few people were eating on our Saturday afternoon visit. Four local cask beers. Attractive place, though just a little lacking in genuine atmosphere and character (appears to have been refurbished just a tad too much), but a decent place to stop for a pint. Quite popular without being crowded. Very good service.

We were visiting Winchester looking for somewhere to eat and are so glad we chose Alfies. The menu choice was good standard pub fayre and the food arrived quickly, piping hot and very tasty. There were a number of hand pulled ales, and I was given the chance to have a taste of each to decide which one to have, and the ale I did choose had obviously come from a well maintained cellar. The member of staff was also very kind in giving us directions to local places to explore. If we visit Winchester again we will definitely return to Alfies, and I am only sorry our stay wasn't longer so that I could have returned later in the day to try another of their fine ales.

The setting is very pleasant and clean with friendly bar staff. The food wasn't great. We were one of the first lunchtime customers and the food came so quickly I suspect it was last night's unused food warmed up. The Burger was so greasy the bottom bun was saturated and the chips were over cooked. The macaroni cheese was stodgy and again over booked maybe reheated one too many times. We paid when we ordered or I would have been tempted to not pay for the macaroni, although I had clearly not eaten much the server collecting our plates didn't enquire if we had enjoyed our meals. I have never in my life had to stand and walk through 20mm of urine and water and toilet roll and tissue until I went into alfie’s bar..... upon taking it up with the big fella who claims to be the landlord he just shrugged his shoulders and said if people urinate on the floor there’s nothing he can do about it, I suggest he invests in a mop and bucket and instructs staff to monitor the toilets and clean them. It was a busy Saturday night with lots of inebriated youth in the pub so I realise it’s their doing. Then there’s the mosquito infested rear garden, it’s warm and damp so attracts the horrid things, not much he can do about that but I can warn you of being bitten by them.

I had only been to Alfie’s on a night out, and i’ve never had any complaints so thought we would try out the food, however, not as great. we popped in mid afternoon, as my partner was starving so he ordered the Alfie’s burger, which was impressive, and a very large portion, he seemed to enjoy it however it was completely dripping with grease which ruined his chips but he said it was alright. for myself i ordered the nachos as i was not as hungry to find out they didn’t have any. this was fine, kitchens run out of food, i understand . but i panicked and ordered the fish and chips instead, thought this was a safe option as a fussy eater, but kind of wish i hadn’t bothered. the portion is chips was huge which must have been to make up for the lack of fish! it was almost like chips chips chips with some batter and a little fish in there somewhere. the chips were tasty but the peas were a little dried out like they had been sat under a hot plate for a little too long. no one checked if our food was okay- which i would understand if it was busy but it wasn’t, seeing as though it was middle of the afternoon. i left a lot of food and no one cleared the plates if they had, i would’ve said something then. but we just got up and left, dirty plates still on the table. I took the glasses to the bar and put a tip next to them and said thank you to be met with no response, honestly average food and service. and i hate to say anything bad about a place that has hosted many good nights out.

I love alfies, but I'm so fed up of the bar service! Busy nights I can understand people not being served in turn, but gone midnight on a Tuesday it wasn't that busy but it still took me ages to get served. I was with two friends. One got served by one person, as she finished another person served my other friend, and then I got left for at least 10 minutes. The original girl went and served her friends who walked in after my first friend got served (I can tell because she hugged one and chatted with another), the second guy went up to the other end of the bar. Then another guy, who seemed to be a manager, was pouring a drink in front of me and said he'd be with me in a minute. Then carried on to serve other people. Meanwhile the first girl was intermittently putting glasses away and serving other people. Eventually my friend who was waiting with me, with a drink in front of her, was asked if she needed anything. Luckily she pointed to me otherwise I probably would have walked out.

Definitely my go to pub for pretty much every occasion. My 6 year old is obsessed with the sausage, mash and gravy and I'd highly recommend the bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich with a portion of chips.

We popped in for a quick drink whilst on a break in Winchester. Was met by the barman saying 'you don't want food do you?' after ordering two drinks. Well no we didn't and a hello would have been nice. we felt so unwelcome we didn't even finish our drinks and left. I didn't even want to give it one star probably the worst place for a welcome ever.

Called in on a Thursday Night for a drink with friends, very quite inside, in fact there were more doormen than customers. Decoration was good and the outside area seemed a good standard. Beer was Ok service good although staff seemed unsure of what wines were available and the price for a bottle of wine was more than we paid in our Hotel and a local Restaurant.

We wanted to discover some new pubs to take visitors to, Alfie's was first on the list. Great location, very attractive interior. Good selection of drinks on offer. Unfortunately staff were wanting to chat with a group at one end of the bar making us feel like we were intruding when stood at the bar waiting to be served. Large board was promoting watching the Lions matches, my husband tried to engage about the rugby with the chap serving him , he simply wasn't interested in conversing. Very uncomfortable so left.

I was tempted to give this one a "poor" rating, but the sandwiches and salad were good, and the women's toilet was, apparently, fine. But the men's loo really needs some thorough cleaning. This was lunchtime, so what is it like after a long night's drinking with the lads? Location is good, just opposite the tourist office. So please clean up your act and you'll have a "very good" rating.

Lovely job they have done with the pub itself. Probably targetted at a younger age group than me, but its not "brash" about it. Havent eaten there recently, just pint and peanuts. Food used to be good value.

Pleasant, affordable and welcoming English pub, with a wide variety of dishes (even Mexican and Indian!). We found a comfortable place to sit down with the kids, the food arrived quickly, it was tasty and for a good price - in a good location. There is a terrace outside with tables and a pool table - very nice to sit there when the sun is out.Very recommended.

What a find. The menu is British classic and portions huge. Team working were wonderful. Friendly, attentive and we loved that someone came to ask if all was ok with our meal. Food came quickly. It was delicious. Ate ham and eggs and the ham was plentiful and 'real' and eggs cooked to perfection. The macaroni cheese was tasty too. Will be going back. Had to feel of a great local with happy staff.

Lovely welcoming atmosphere, not always the case when taking kids into pubs. Food was reasonably priced, tasty and good portion sizes.

During my journey in Winchester, we decided with a friend to eat in this place for lunch time. The staff is friendly the food correct. I ordered a salad, really good salad for the price. It was a good discovery.

Visited Alfie's quite a few times and I think it is one of the best pubs in Winchester city centre. Opposite the Guildhall, it is in a great location if you plan to move on to another pub afterwards, or you just want a quiet drink in a beer garden in the sunshine. The selection of beers and ciders is pretty average, and the prices are reasonable. The clientele are often mixed in my experience, but it is definitely a pleasant location with a friendly atmosphere.I can also say that I really enjoy their chips.

£26.50 for a day pass, although asked for £30 which includes donation. Our party was made up of 5 adults - we didn’t donate. To put into context, my husband and I have been members of Marwell in our days before our children. It holds a special place in our hearts. We moved away but always managed to make at least 2 visits a year as the children grew up & still do - the kids are now into their 20’s and often visit with us. Sadly the experience over the last 10 -15 years has progressively gotten worse. Every time we go we hope it will be better. Marwell was always at the forefront of conservation and education & had an extremely successful breeding program for the rhinos and giraffes. Much money has been spent on enclosures that didn’t work, the snow leopards, the cheeta, the walkway over the persian leopard, now cloud leopard, the new tropical house, the gibbon enclosure, kids play areas. Now it is a shell. Few animals, lots of paddocks full of weeds, & plastic bottles & little or no information. The annual membership is a steal but place feels more of a kiddies play area than a serious home for conservation and education. It’s expensive and disappointing. Bit on context - The Cotswold Wildlife Park is £19 for an adult. A much smaller facility but full of animals and information & staff happy to help and answer questions.

This pub proclaim on their very own website to be a ‘friendly local pub’, ‘families welcome’, ‘friendly publicans’, ‘where community comes together’, ‘you’ll feel part of the family’…which is quite frankly outrageous given our two experiences here. On the first occasion my little boy became upset in the pub (over something i cant remember- but hes 4, so standard 4yo behaviour which lasted only a minute or two). And when i came back in from the garden, I heard them laughing and one member of staff said ‘hes a brat, and his mother just cant control him which isnt my problem’. Then (heaven knows why we went back) - my friends little boy cut his cheek on the side of a bench in the beer garden - they refused to give us any first aid or call a taxi for A&E, let alone any empathy or basic duty of care. When my husband challenged the manager (Ade) and he said to us ‘if i had my way id make this an adults only pub so we dont have to deal with these nightmare kids’. I could not believe how cruel and uncaring the people working here could be. A little boy had hurt himself and they couldn’t have cared less- but more than that- they were hostile, unhelpful and offensive about the whole thing. Despite it being our local, we have not returned- and we will not be.

Came in for some drinks with friends- the women wouldn’t leave us alone the whole night. Watched us on the CCTV when we weren’t doing anything wrong and asked us to leave when we had bought lots of drinks. The food is sub par and the drinks extortionate . There are so many better pubs in Winchester so go to them.

My wife and I found ourselves at the Cricketers Inn having tried a couple of closer pubs which had stopped serving food at 3pm (totally understandable but we had a lot on and we're running late and hungry!). We're glad we did. We received a warm welcome and a great lunch. 2 courses and some drinks came to just under £50 which I'm not going complain about. The food came out nice and quick, fresh and roasting hot. It was delicious, hats off to the chef. My wife had a chicken burger and I had a stir fry, both went down well. I'd recommend a visit, I'm a little disappointed that we didn't have the kids with us as the play area looked like it would have kept them occupied! Well done.
