Sunday roast with the family. 6 adults, 2 children, 2 vegans. Every one of us left knowing we’d had the best roast we’d had in ages. Possibly the best roast potatoes I’ve had in a pub. Puddings to die for. Great choice of beers and ales. Will be going back very soon.

Called in for a late lunch after visiting the steam railway. We sat in the bar area which has a rustic feel to it. I ordered the sea bass and my wife the calves liver. Pleased that we received slices of crusty white bread and butter to eat while we waited for our meals. The meals did not disappoint. My sea bass was moist and tasty complimented by the Mediterranean vegetables. My wife's calves liver was tender. Both meals were very enjoyable. The staff were polite and friendly. We would visit again when in the area.

The good reviews refer mainly to the dining experience enjoyed by guests but regrettably the bed and breakfast offer falls well below that to poor. The management of the bed and breakfast seems to be a secondary option. Firstly there was no confirmation of our booking, no photos of the bedrooms on the web site but we were undeterred as in general the reviews were good. However this optimism soon began to disappear after checking in. The carpet on the upper floors/ stairs is well worn, threadbare and generally grubby. The bedroom/bathroom was in general need of decoration and updating. The towel stuffed in the window probably to stop it rattling / leaking was a major clue. The beds were roughly made giving a first impression of having been already slept in though hopefully not. No nice touches such us biscuits or bottled water were on offer. Moving on to the breakfast. No written menu so what to have?. A continental offering consisted of a couple of yogurts, a bit of fruit and cereals. The alternatives were toast or English breakfast. The cooked breakfast is served in a bizarre way with a round of toast with a sausage, bacon, mushrooms stacked on it. The coffee was awful. No offer was made for any additional toast or coffee. No sugar or tea spoons in view. The breakfast was a truly disappointing effort. Either the management have no clue or just don’t care. The hotel /bed and breakfast offering needs a major review and serious upgrade.

Went in with five friends and it looked fairly busy but there were empty tables . We were on a tight timetable so asked You look busy how long will we have to wait for food ? Oh not long . Two of our party were unconvinced and left the rest of us stayed . Ordered sandwiches and fries . They took almost an hour to arrive . Nothing wrong with the food but please be honest with customers when you’re busy . We are meeting friends again in a few weeks locally and we won’t use The Bell Inn - food looked good but service poor

Watercress festival, very busy however failing to prepare is preparing to fail in my opinion. 3 of us decided to pop in for lunch. Kitchen had run out of roast potatoes so I excused that and asked for an additional Yorkshire pudding. I was then informed that they had run out of Yorkshire pudding. I stated that’s ok but you’ll have to adjust the price as half the meal is missing to which I was told ( I can’t change the price I’m afraid). I’m not sure how a pub of all places, in this market can have the audacity to tell a customer we can only give you half a meal but you still need to pay full price. Needless to say I didn’t eat and waited my turn for a beautiful pulled pork roll. The staff in the restaurant were very polite and professional however I fear the penny pushers in the background completely do this place a disservice.

Very nice food at a reasonable price. Verging on fine dining at mid-range prices. I just wanted dinner, and ordered the roast rump of lamp (£20). It was preceded by complimentary fresh crusty bread. The nicest bread I have tasted in a long time. The lamb was served perfectly cooked, with a hint of pink, sliced and arranged over boiled greens. Sadly, my lack of teeth meant the greens were hard work, but that's entirely my fault. Dauphinoise potatoes accompanied the dish and they were to die for! The whole was served with a mint jus. Not overpowering in flavour, but excellent. I'll be back!

A fairly big bar area and restaurant. Friendly waitress and nothing too much trouble. Food very good but quite plain presentation. We had a nice evening and the only down point was needing to wade through the busy bar area to get to the toilets. Seemed to be quite a few people just drinking on the tables around the bar and in particular in front of the ladies toilet door, with a couple of men not moving and making female customers squeeze past them. But overall a nice pub/restaurant.

Having eaten many times in The Bell, we took some friends for lunch last week and were very disappointed, not with the young chap serving us who was polite and helpful, but by the manner a request was handled by the kitchen. I chose the prix fixe menu and as it normally has prawn cocktail as a starter, I asked if I could have a ‘small’ one instead of the prawn and crab salad as I am allergic to crab but when the young waiter took my request to the kitchen, it was refused. It was not that they did not have the ingredients as my husband chose it of the a la carte menu so this refusal mystified and disappointed us, in fact the strange thing was that the prawn and crab salad was £1 more expensive than the prawn cocktail on the a la carte!!!!!! I am afraid that I did not enjoy my lunch after this and it soured the whole lunch experience so much that, sadly, it will be a long time before we consider dining in The Bell again.

On arrival appearance of front of hotel looked nice It sadly declined on entering worn carpets dusty apperance very cluttered with a lot of tables chairs and very dark gloomy in the evening. We declined evening meal as felt it wouldn't be to our taste eating in a dark room . We were given key to room stair carpets old and worn Food visible bread uncovered fruit in hot temperatures etc by staircase not in kitchen. Using a sideboard where people are walking past not to mention flies etc. We were asked what time for breakfast it was 7.30 to 8.30 bit early for some not much choice We came down 8 15 am we were told where to sit .no choice or is that OK for you In the window at rear of bar on what I can only describe as a card chess table Another couple had a proper height table nearby adequate to eat their breakfast dining room was empty with an abundance of proper tables We had yogurt 2 same flavour stored on windowsill in a basket with a few bits of fruit no ice around them in hot temperatures as was a small jug fruit juice all crammed on windowsill. I requested full English owner Juls asked poached scrambled I said no traditional full .English normally a fried egg in uk We decided as other tables were out of bounds!! to move to beer garden to eat it Bread one piece soggy middle dry around edges In middle of plate with bacon tomato poached egg And a sausage balanced on top !!!!!! Never have I had a breakfast like that Must be running place on a shoestring A pot of marmalade can't imagine what I was spreading it on ? As I piece of bread only no toast Tea was weak horrid not asked if we would like more tea and we were given fruit rather than being able to choose or top up fruit juice again amount selected for you Never have I experienced such a shambles of a breakfast. Egg dried up overcooked . Beer garden a mess overgrown leaves covering seated area and spiky plants at entrance exit by kitchen door dangerous near eyes Other entrance into bar had worn carpet hazard for tripping no lights there in night if you sit out there by this exit had to hold window ledge .to safely go down few steps Bed rooms very pokey and dusty no biscuits with tea tray no surprise really room 2 Very dated decor We declined breakfast this morning as it was so horrible . Checked out early .today Owner hangs under garments swim wear etc in garden where we were sat on nearby seating still there until 12.50 pm we met family as leaving for a funeral who saw this . Breakfast things from us were still on table at 11am milk yogurt etc in soaring temperatures not cleared away Owner obviously wanted to be elsewhere so had left it all Not a good look when running a business.

This establishment needs to be much higher up the Alresford food chain...What a fabulous experience ! In honour of a Birthday but without a booking we were greeted immediately and shown to a table in the leafy courtyard and given both the a La Carte and Fixe Prix menu's. The Fixe Prix had a good selection of dishes for each course with all bases covered in terms of dietary requirements. I chose the Hampshire Pork belly with mashed potato and greens. ( Don't let the uninspiring title fool you ). The pork could literally have been eaten with a blunt spoon, however the crackling was crisp and crumbly. The mash was smooth and buttery, the greens lightly wilted and like the whole dish, didn't require any further seasoning. I am struggling to think of when I had quite such delicious food locally. I am reliably informed that the sticky toffee pud was heaven in a bucket.Thank you Bruce for creating a masterpiece or two. Thank you to Andrew our server who was attentive without being intrusive, friendly, helpful, very good at his job and I would imagine he is a great asset to the business. A fabulous lunch was had ! Although outwardly quite a smart establishment, the carpets were threadbare not in an antique way but worn thru to the floorboards as a tripping hazard on the step. We found the food here subpar. The grilled goat cheese starter listed on the menu as coming with a green salad, had one stalk of pea shoot on the top. When we complaind we were given a "complimentary" bowl of salad and they claimed the menu was misprinted. The chicken liver pate was a cold slab off a block in the fridge with a blob of jam out of a jar and 4 tiny bits of toast, unappealing. We shared the crab salad main. The presence of crab had to be inferred from the menu as there was only crab dust on the salad, but it did have the advertised prawns and salad. Service was slow considering the place was almost empty. We won't be going back.

There was one problem which made me want to leave this restaurant only minutes after walking in. The noise level was like bedlam! There is a difference between the buzz of laughter and chatter in a busy restaurant and the bellowing over the table of...

I’ve got to say that this was experience was absolutely faultless. Great service, amazing value for money and definitely one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I’ll be highly recommending to friends and family that appreciate good quality food that’s cooked to perfection.

Saw the prix fixe menu and thought give it a try. Lovely ambience inside with candles on tables. Nice selection on menu but went for the set lunch. Perfect fish, perfect fries. Great value. Nice selection of wine and the waitress noticed our beers being cloudy so swiftly took them away and replaced. Lovely lunch in a lovely pub. Excellent value for lunch.

Now that the fixed price lunch menu is back, this is the place to go in Alresford. They were full enough to turn people away, in both the bar and restaurant, so booking in advance is advised. The 2 course menu is good value, tasty and filling.

Visited at lunch time during a day out at the Watercress Line. It was very busy that afternoon (16 Sept '21) but the staff were warm and welcoming. We opted for a sandwich lunch with chips. There were more sandwich options available from the menu than advertised on the website which was a pleasant surprise. Limited but pleasant range of larger, beer and ale.We sat outside which was enclosed and shaded. The only downside was the smell of the bins so we did move table. Cost was as expected for Alresford - it isn't a 'cheap' town. There isn't a Wetherspoons here so all the (dog friendly) pubs are similar in price. We will definitely go back next time. Really have to say that the food was good but it was the two ladies on duty that made it a nice experience by making us and our dog feel welcome despite being so busy.Thank you

I hosted a family dinner for 15 on a Saturday evening and couldn't have chosen a better venue. The staff were brilliant and thoughtful. The food was delicious. A few of us chose the braised lamb and all agreed it just melted in the mouth. Everyone was delighted with the food, even the younger children who were given just what they asked for. We all had a really, really good evening. It couldn't have been bettered. My thanks to Jules and all his staff who made this family occasion so perfect.

Lovely old pub, nice ambience and a reputation for top Sunday roast. Had chicken roast and fair play..hot, tasty good food. Service pleasant enough BUT..had asked for table at back of pub but was told it had been booked and specifically requested by a couple who would soon arrive. No worries, our table was situated at the back of the pub but next to the ‘ladies’ toilet and the door the the outside area. All going ok until elderly lady number 15 tottered close by looking for the toilet..by now, without looking up I’d point over my shoulder and direct the to the toilet. Bless them, they used the back of my chair for balance (not an issue, total respect for the elderly) some times the opening door released a less than fragrant scent. Also the door to the garden had to be closed as the smokers outside were on top form and an‘Ah Bisto’ smoke trail sneaked in and circled watching you eat. Smoke troubled a lot more the me. Anyway chocs brownie was top support act to the roast.. would I go again? Yeah probably BUT only at a table overlooking the main road or ‘enter, turn left and go there’ NOT at the back. Ps the specifically requested couple never showed and a bit more effort could have been afforded there as opposed to flannel.

The waiter and waitress were very helpful and we enjoyed the special deal at £13 early one evening. Of course we had drinks and wine with our meal, but the price at the end, reflected the ambience of the pub dining room and it was a very enjoyable evening. The food was excellent.

All the dishes here are consistently high quality - superb souffle, excellent pepper butter on steak, superb fish dishes, great selection of very nice wines and excellent beers with friendly, efficient and enthusiastic staff. Highly recommended.

We have been here quite a few times in the past and have always appreciated the good food, nice surroundings and good service. So what a disappointment we had on our latest visit. The surroundings are still great but the service was very lacklustre and the food really poor for a place with at least mid-range pretensions. Our whitebait were clearly pre-prepared straight from the freezer and the burgers were simply the worst I've had in years - tasteless supermarket "value" level buns and meat patties with no taste which looked as though they were made with anything other than beef. Its only the well kept local beers which washed down the meal that let me give the whole experience a 2 star rating

We stayed with another couple for 2 nights B&B plus one dinner. The hotel couldn't be better placed in Winchester but both the car park and the dining room are far too small for the number of guests. One of us had to wait for about 40 mins for a car park space (for which they charge £15 per night) and we had to wait for over 30 mins each morning for a table at breakfast. The hotel was busy but they should operate booked timings for breakfast rather than making guests wait for tables when they cannot accommodate the numbers. The food was very good but at dinner two of us were served our main courses about 10 mins before the others. I paid for the wine separately but when the bill was presented a service charge had been added which I asked to be deleted which it was.

Pleasant relaxed atmosphere, excellent food, prices reasonable, service perhaps a little slow. Gave us more time to talk. Give it a go.

Would love to be able to recommend The Cricketers but it was possibly the worst |Sunday Lunch we've ever had. Food was poor , service mediocre and cost extortionate. They even put a 12.5% sevice charge on the already expensive bill. To top it all one of our family who ate the pork had a very upset stomach .
