Myself and my partner booked out the back area of the pub in July for our wedding breakfast, Jo and team where amazing and nothing was too much for them. So disappointed with the service we received yesterday. The gentleman with the beard serving us our food could not have been ruder. He even belittled a man at another table, simply for humming to himself. The food was excellent and lady that assisted with the serving of the food at our table was very pleasant. We have eaten at the pub regularly for years - family celebrations and gatherings, always had a very good experience. Yesterday was a total surprise and disappointment.

We are nearby residents in the next village and have frequented here during the week many times. Recently we visited with family for Sunday Roast and today a week later we visited again with two friends also for Sunday Roast. 10/10 for friendliness, clean well run pub with comfy tables and for me top of the agenda a cracking pint. Always a good choice of Real Ales on tap. The Roasts are excellent, great value with or without desserts and the quantity is just right, not loads of cheaper cuts. Tasty and well presented. Service was good, worth a tip and definitely a return visit. I think a full carpark speaks volumes when it comes to assessing a pubs reputation. One highlight from the first visit was the care and attention given to allergy, for us vegan dairy free was a criticality for a family member and this was dealt with so well, the menu covered all our needs and we came and left totally unstressed. Plus 24 hrs of no reaction to her diet. You would be amazed despite so much bad press and sadness with allergy’s how many places seem to lack the interest in allergy consideration or pay just lip service. We were impressed with The Farmers Home, thank you so much. 👍

A sad occasion led us to the Farmers Home - being in the village close to the Wessex Vale Crematorium the pub provides for Wakes - or as we in Scotland would say Purveys. The pub is located in a small rural village with car park to rear - very traditional, a friendly welcome and arrangements had been catered for - very simple spread - sandwiches, flan, chips , excellent sausage roll, and some cake - well presented and tasty. Service was caring and professional. The pub was comfortable with sun soaked garden area. Looking at the menu we will return on happier occasion to experience a full meal. Thank You.

Visited on the bank holiday, mid afternoon. Went to the bar and asked if they were still doing food? Was told yes by the landlord/managerial in a sort of friendly manner. Got a table in the dining area all good. Ordered two meals, and both arrived in a timely manner. Both are excellent in taste and reasonable size! Couldn't fault the young staff. The pub is a little gem, even though tucked away a tad. This place makes some of those so-called foodie New Forest country pubs to shame. Well, it's worth a visit.

Probably won’t be coming here again. Found a piece of glass in my sandwich, which I was sharing with my 9 month old daughter, luckily realised and told a member of staff who really wasn’t that phased and just asked if I wanted another sandwich and that she’d take it off the bill. A piece of glass in food is a hazard and I’d certainly show more concern. My grandad had pork belly which was rubbery too. Service very slow too.

Fancied a Ploughman's Lunch and it was on the menu. Both ordered one, sat in the garden, quick service although we were the only patrons at the time. Looked really nice, but was so disappointed. The basics of having fresh bread is a must! Ours was not fresh, and having hard butter patties didn't help it. The pork pie was tasteless. Not sure how such a simple lunch could be so disappointing. Been here twice in 2 weeks. Once for my nans Wake. Short haired staff lady (maybe a manager) was rude. (Luckily there was a blonde lady too who was quite nice). We were made to feel we were an inconvenience when we moved out of the wake area and into the food area (we only had 2 hours for the wake). She rolled her eyes at her colleague when she saw we were all sat taking up a few too many tables for her liking even though it wasn’t busy. Went again recently for dinner and again, staff not the best. 2 waitresses were lovely but the higher up staff seemed a little rude. Was also a little shocked to see we were charged £1.50 for peas on the bill after we asked for some because the Gammon was literally, Gammon and chips. On the way out we said bye to the staff and thank you, but after they saw we didn’t leave a tip, the goodbye was extremely blunt. Between the wake and the second visit, we’ve spent over £600. The only good thing we can point out, is their deserts are very nice. Has put us off.

And as other reviewers have said there's a nice beer garden for when the weather is warmer. Based on this visit I'm sure we will be back for a drink and a proper meal in the not too distant future. Recommended by myself after pervious experince...but left extremely dissapointed food was very poor indeed.. Firstly the staff the venue as a whole no complaints at all lovely pub inside and out location and garden very nice..however having come to the pub many years ago i recommended this pub to my partner who wanted to take me out for a family birthday meal but we left very dissapointed with the quality of food Me and my partner both had the mix grill both came out and looked good however thats as good as it got, the rump steak was very bland no seasoning what so ever and mine was very very tough, mushrooms were a very odd grey colour and cold again no seasoning at all very bland...pork steak very bland no seasoning cooked ok..gammon steak was ok again no seasonimg but there was naturel flavour from the saltyness of the pork...over all the worst mix grills i have ever had. Having had this mix grill myself from your locally sourced butcher you would expect so much better from tranined chefs salt and pepper at the very least. My daughter had a burger which came out very dry and flavourless my other daughters meal was ok... On to the puddings, my parnter had chocolate brownie which was very grainy in taste and very dry had to use all the ice cream to make the desert edible very bad..kids puds were ok overall 3 out of 10 and that being generous which is a shame really, maybe this was an of day bit i wouldnt recommend or return if i had any advise to the cooks season your food..really was a big shame

Not a ‘gastro’ type pub (thank god) but a country restaurant & bar. Perfectly good food & reasonably priced. We went on a bank holiday when they had run out of some things but quantity & quality on what they had was good. Huge amount of meat & veg with a roast dinner. The beer drinkers were disappointed at lack of some particular beer (yawn) but the reason was explained by the extremely polite landlord. He was training a new member of staff from scratch which was so nice to see ; rather than throwing him in at the deep end as is often the way in hospitality. All staff were excellent - polite and doing their best. The pub has been a regular favourite for many years - it ticks over nicely by just doing what is has always done and it is very good at it. We will be back! Thank you; excellent service.

A warm welcome every day. After hectic days and early starts / visiting my Mum in hospital I had the pleasure of dining lunch times at The Farmers Home. Every day lunch was very good. Venison Curry, Pork Chop, Steak, and after a busy day when Mum came out of hospital we had Scampi. All the staff wer welcoming and asked after her health every day. It was nice having someone to talk to. All the meals wer hot and tasty. I had quick and pleasant service. Nothing was too much trouble for them even on the days when it was packed. It is not a large chain of pubs and when they have fewer bookings there is less staff on duty. I assume to keep costs down. All food is cooked fresh to order and when only one behind bar, serving drinks, sitting people at tables, taking food orders, answering phone, taking out food orders, checking on customers, making sure they are not sat at reserved tables. There might be a few minutes wait. But I had, and always have had very good service from usually great freindley and happy staff. Whilst sometimes having to deal with some very obnoxious and rude members of the public who treat people in the hospitality trade with no respect at all!

I would have thought a little bit more effort to attract customers back, tables outside and garden could have been refreshed and some of the staff as well.

Visited with family yesterday and not disappointed after a long time of not eating out. Can highly recommend. Food very tasty and generous portions. Lovely staff and those gorgeous Durley strawberries. We all enjoyed our meals and I can personally recommend the lamb shank and mum loved her Eton mess with the strawberries.

Would love to be able to recommend The Cricketers but it was possibly the worst |Sunday Lunch we've ever had. Food was poor , service mediocre and cost extortionate. They even put a 12.5% sevice charge on the already expensive bill. To top it all one of our family who ate the pork had a very upset stomach .

We stayed with another couple for 2 nights B&B plus one dinner. The hotel couldn't be better placed in Winchester but both the car park and the dining room are far too small for the number of guests. One of us had to wait for about 40 mins for a car park space (for which they charge £15 per night) and we had to wait for over 30 mins each morning for a table at breakfast. The hotel was busy but they should operate booked timings for breakfast rather than making guests wait for tables when they cannot accommodate the numbers. The food was very good but at dinner two of us were served our main courses about 10 mins before the others. I paid for the wine separately but when the bill was presented a service charge had been added which I asked to be deleted which it was.

Sunday roast with the family. 6 adults, 2 children, 2 vegans. Every one of us left knowing we’d had the best roast we’d had in ages. Possibly the best roast potatoes I’ve had in a pub. Puddings to die for. Great choice of beers and ales. Will be going back very soon.
