The Alresford Cricketers in Winchester

My wife and I found ourselves at the Cricketers Inn having tried a couple of closer pubs which had stopped serving food at 3pm (totally understandable but we had a lot on and we're running late and hungry!). We're glad we did. We received a warm welcome and a great lunch. 2 courses and some drinks came to just under £50 which I'm not going complain about. The food came out nice and quick, fresh and roasting hot. It was delicious, hats off to the chef. My wife had a chicken burger and I had a stir fry, both went down well. I'd recommend a visit, I'm a little disappointed that we didn't have the kids with us as the play area looked like it would have kept them occupied! Well done.

The first and last time I shall eat here. I met a friend for lunch and we both chose sandwiches from the light lunch menu. My Coronation Chicken 'sandwich' came out as chicken gravy between 2 pieces of bread that was inedible as the bread was too wet to pick up. The chicken was gristly and the sauce left a nasty aftertaste in the mouth. My friends BLT turned up with a thick fatty piece of gammon instead of bacon (well it's the same isn't it? said the waitress). A waste of £20 for the most inedible and uneaten sandwiches we have ever had. Won't be going back. And if this is what the 'New Chef' is producing then they shouldn't either.

Fantastic service, food and Jane was tremendous and so helpful. There were 11 of us, and various choices of the superb menu which were all served at the same time so we were all eating together, and the puds were delicious. Thank you to all of you from me and my family, for helping us to make a Special memory for our Ray, in his long ago "local".

Visited today, with 3 family members. The 2 boys had starters, 3 of us had roasts, beef, mixed meat and nut roast and a burger. Lovely having the vegetables come out separately and a jug of gravy and we squeezed a pudding in. Food was excellent and the Staff lovely. I'm entertaining the Family on Saturday here and have opted for a buffet. Really looking forward to it

Very nice pub. Lovely grounds and big kids play area. Big car park and lovely inside too, the whole place is surrounded by trees. The service was excellent, couldn't do enough for us. The food was superb from a large and varied menu. Not just fast food and pub grub, this was fresh, well presented and delicious. Great value too. Highly recommended.

We had nibbles from the light bites menu. The food was very good, proper cheesey chips. Atmosphere was great sitting in the leather chairs by the fireplace. The beer was on point clear, bright and tasty, and with a good selection.

Food is not great at all. Crispy beef salad, barely crispy, looked rather effortless in all manners, limp salad. Burgers full of grissle. Staff are not very welcoming. No bottled beef or cider. Chocolate brownie cold and hard. Not a very good experience at all.

We stopped off for drinks in the massive garden that's so well catered for and is great for families with young children. Plenty of parking too. Lovely and cosy inside and the menu looked great so going back soon for a family meal.

Been here a few times and I love it. The host got my 3year old son a toasted seeded roll(that's all he eats!!) And really made us feel welcome!!

A superb little pub. Staff really friendly, nice selection of beers and wine. Menu and food excellent, stayed for a late lunch, reasonably priced, quality great. The chef is clearly passionate about the service, high quality. Top tip, try this pub out, it is on the rise and is a must for a visit.

Awful service and we will not return - over 3 hours fir a pre ordered lunch and some of us had to leave as could not sit any longer waiting for food !!!

After going to the Winchester Christmas Market and then finding all the eateries in Winchester fully booked, we went back to the car and searched on Google Maps for somewhere on the way home. Finding the Cricketers, and I'm glad we did. Under new management and only recently reopened. The welcome was warm on a freezing Winter evening. The menu was not exciting, normal pub standards, so was not expecting the gastronomical delights. We chose Homemade Pie and Hunters Chicken. The pie was a proper homemade pie and filled to the brim, served with mash, peas, and gravy. The Hunters Chicken was again home prepared, served with coleslaw and crispy chunky chips. My wife said the best and most tender chicken she has had. We had absolutely no faults at all about both meals. Well, the only fault was we were too full to try the desserts, which I am sure we would have been equally impressed. We will have to return.

Went for a birthday lunch with my husband two kids and my Mum. Food was excellent, staff were attentive, polite and friendly, atmosphere was great. Wonderful play area out the back for kids to burn off energy and lovely wood burner inside. Mum said it was one of the nicest meals she'd ever had (and she's not the easiest to please). Honestly couldn't ask for more. Will be returning.

Came here for a Sunday lunch. Really, very good food and service. The portions were large, well presented, and good quality. Atmosphere was let down a bit by a booking of 30 who were in at the same time. Made it feel more like a canteen. However, I imagine this won't be the case every Sunday. Will definitely be returning. The only issue is if you have mobility problems as I have, you will find access difficult. The car park is gravel that a manual chair won't deal with, and there are a number of steps to the dining area. I noticed that there may be level access from the front of the building. It would be worth a call ahead as it may be possible to enter the building here.

We stopped here after finding most pubs with food in this area are shut at lunchtime during the week, and this was Tuesday. We got a friendly and helpful welcome at the bar. We both had sausages and mash, and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. The extra gravy was served with a smile.

We had to wait for an hour for our food to come out. When we asked – the bartender said 5-10 minutes more, which meant a further 25 minutes. When it came out the two sets of kids food had undercooked chips. My mother-in-laws sea bass and roasted vegetables was sea bass on a bed of sopping wet ratatouille (which she doesn't eat). They didn't have pie, so we ordered 'a trio of pork sausages' which was 3 bad quality sausages, on lumpy mash, with hard peas and gloopy gravy made from Bisto. £75 for the whole lot, we left before pudding. When the waiter/bartender asked how everything was I said 'not great, and really late' his response was 'I'll pass it onto the owners and chef' – not even a though of an apology or discount on the bill. How to not run a business / pub.

Imagine that I came in as a punter and said, sorry, no money to pay today, it's just a bit too busy and I couldn't be bothered bringing my wallet out to pay you.  We won't be returning, but what a shame.

Recently visited The Cricketers in Alresford on Friday to try their fish and chip special evening, 2 eat for £20 - received a warm welcome, food was excellent, service great. Definitely be back for more visits.

Very good food and service in a friendly convivial atmosphere. Served by Lois and others. Very friendly and helpful and good with children. Outside facilities in garden with lots of outside seating - some covered. Play facilities- swings and slides - very popular with children.

Happy to accommodate our group of 8, large pub with nice varied menu with some good classics. Service was really friendly, food portions and quality were good and tasty, good value for money.

A really enjoyable meal out with friends. My husband and I are chefs and are often disappointed with meals out but not here. I have already recommended The Cricketers and only wish there was another birthday coming up so we’d have an excuse to go back sooner. We went on a cold wet Tuesday and sadly it wasn’t very busy. Pubs like this are rare to find, good food, comfortable surroundings and a hospitable staff. I really hope it gets support from locals as it certainly deserves it.

We only popped in for some food around midday. Parked easily, staff were friendly and service was quick and astute. Food was good and well priced and the decor is modern and attractive.

We had dinner at The Cricketers while on a camping trip with our grandchildren. The staff were excellent at accommodating our needs created by a fussy 2 year old.
