I have not drunk alcohol for over seven years. I asked for an alcohol free bottle of beer (No brands) some beers have 0.0 on the front but contain 0.05 ABV. There was no legible nutrition label on the bottle so after two beers I felt drunk and went home. Had I been driving I would not have been over the limit but drunk driving a vehicle. Stay well clear if you are recovering alcoholic or drink soft drinks. I will not be returning

We chose to go here after seeing it on trip advisor. Booked a table as meeting friends, glad we did as the pub is lovely but compact so only a few tables and we’re fully booked this evening. A warm welcome and drinks ordered, we then chose our food, 3 of us had fish and chips (one was dairy free and catered for easily), and 1 person had the whole grain mustard gammon, egg and chips. Amazing chips, more like chunky wedges/chips. Puddings were excellent too and for the dairy allergy one of us the treacle tart with dairy free vanilla ice cream was superb. Only downside was it was a chilly evening and our table was by the door, understand the pub can’t do anything about the weather but shame when people came in they held the door open while talking to people outside or left it ajar when coming in. Overall though we had a very enjoyable evening and will definitely visit again.

My boss and I have an after work pint here. The drink selection is comprehensive, with bar snacks hot and cold. The staff are very welcoming and friendly as so many of our pubs used to be. The food though, stunning. Beautifully presented, and every ingredient perfectly cooked. With a Sunday roast to die for and weekly specials to accompany an exciting menu, you won't find a pub doing this level of grub for the money within a thirty mile radius. On top of all this ,the Unicorn offers a very spacious beer garden with undercover seating, child and dog friendly in and out, and has a bus stop right on the front door that links into Reading . Thanks to all the staff there for some truly excellent company, food and drink.

Called in whilst staying in the area on a Wednesday evening. Pub was quite busy, but a table was available. Good selection on the menu and the staff were very helpful. Ordered the fish and chips. Excellent fish, just right with the batter, but slightly let down by the greasy chips, they really should have been better! Nice atmosphere, and food reasonably priced. Very popular with the locals

My husband and I had dinner at The Unicorn and were made to feel very welcome by the staff. The food was delicious and if the weather has been better we could have eaten in the garden.

My husband and I had a delicious dinner in the garden at The Unicorn on a Saturday in July. The staff were friendly and helpful and there was a nice relaxed atmosphere.

We visited as 2 couples on a busy Saturday night, having booked. We were seated straight away and drinks were served swiftly and our order taken in a timely fashion. We were served by the lovely Sam (aka Bob, you had to be there😄) . I love it when the staff are friendly and can play, and Sam was excellent. We had 3 different starters, 4 different mains, and 3 different deserts. The squid starter was lovely, so much so that 2 of our group who have always said they hated squid, tried a bit of mine and really liked it. We had steak, salmon, sole and scampi for mains. All lovely. All in all a pleasant evening.

Had not visited for some time but, the rumour was that it was very busy and food good and you needed to book...so did for 12.30. Seated quickly by a very pleasant young lady who quickly took our drinks order, delivered it as quickly and then took our order......2 onion soups and a scampi and a pie of the day (steak and ale). Soups arrived after a slight delay.......lots of onion, but no taste of onion; crouton only had sprinkling of cheese Scampi came with lots of fries, but the cold plate was swamped with salad with dressing - why serve cold salad with hot food. Disappointingly the steak and ale pie was 'bought in' and not home made and was sitting on a bed of vegetable and mashed potato in what seemed to be a cold soup plate, making it slightly difficult to eat. Vegetables properly cooked and good mash....pie neither tasted of beef or ale. Staff very pleasant and looked after us, but food!!!!!!! Not value for money today I'm afraid but they have repaired the door closer since our last visit.

Went on 30 December with wife and duaghter as it was our 49th wedding anniversary and had heard great things about the Unicorn including having had an excellent meal there before Covid. Two of three starters were ok but my French Onion soup, despite tasting and smelling ok, had no toast with cheese floating on top. Found some soggy bread under the surface and assumed just an error. But then came the main courses. Wife had ordered a beef burger but what arrived had some sort of inedible pattie that looked and tasted awful with the texture of dog meat. Asked if she had been given a veggie or some such by mistake but only answer was to take cost off the bill. My chicken breast 'served on a bed of risotto' was cooked ok but sat in a pool of slop. Overall a terrible evening.

Tried telephoning three times on a Saturday morning to make a booking for lunch. No reply, no voicemail. Pitched up anyway just before 1 PM and was told (not in a friendly way) no availability for lunch unless we had made a booking. No hint of an apology . And so we left, never to return.

We visited for Sunday lunch and it was absolutely delightful! Honestly the best Sunday roast I’ve had in a long time and the cheesecake was delicious too. Very reasonably priced as well, Sirloin beef roastie with all the trimmings for £19. The service was also fantastic, quick, and easy. We arrived at 3:30 and by 3:45 we had our roasties! Really friendly, kind staff as well. I couldn't rate the place enough. We will 100% be going back for roasties and more food!

Back again to welcoming staff, quickly seated and drinks order taken; food ordered fish and chips and carved duck breast. Both came in a timely fashion duck pink on a bed of salad....could have been hotter; fish and chips very good again. As a treat both had puddings, sticky toffee pudding and treacle tart both served with homemade ice cream...excellent Lots of smiley faces and enquired if meal alright Well worth a visit (put a door closer on door to front of building as it slams every time someone enters or leaves)

I feel compelled to leave a review for the team and product just received from The Unicorn. I’ve been rarely treated to such wonderful service and fantastic food as we just had. Thank you for re-affirming my belief that friendly, extremely competent service and superb food is still to be had in a local pub environment here in the UK. A return visit with a larger gathering will most certainly be booked soon. ‘till then, Richard.

Brilliant food - way better than you’d expect for a small country pub. Really imaginative menu (much more interesting options than other more expensive venues). Service impeccable and super friendly

All covid-safe processes - well organised. We had a puncture and came here without no booking to wait for the RAC. So we were a bit fed up, but this place cheered us with its sensible arrangements, good sandwiches and pleasant surroundings. We'd go again.

Had a take away roast for Mothering Sunday (due to isolation rules we had to have a take away). It was the best roast my entire family have ever had! Was all so hot and tasty and couldn’t recommend it enough!! Do not miss!

We booked for a party of 13 last Thursday and enjoyed a friendly drink in the busy bar before sitting down for dinner. We were surprised with an amuse-bouche of potato soup with coriander before our meal. My scallops were delicious with a good balance of flavours. My steak and potato dauphinoise main course were perfect. Everyone had a great time. Lovely atmosphere. Well done. Recommended.

We love it simple uncomplicated great food with great service. A local country pub atmosphere. If I was going complain about anything the heating must go off too early because it always get cold towards the end of the evening.

My husband and I had lunch at The Unicorn one Sunday. I had roast chicken and he had the veggie roast. Both meals were delicious and the atmosphere in the pub was really friendly.

We definitely recommend eating here - it’s tasty pub food and we thought excellent value for money. The pub is very small so you may need to book. Service was great and friendly.

Just moved to the area from central Henley. It's a lot more relaxing here generally and the Unicorn a great example. Really friendly, warm reception, lovely fire. Just a great country pub. Not eaten there yet but will soon as the food looks great

Visited as a couple for dinner. Did not book but was shown to a table without any fuss even though it was fairly busy. We both ordered chicken breast and the meal was very well presented and also very tasty and enjoyable. All staff were pleasant and efficient. It was a good choice for a cold winters evening meal and can recommend this pub.

Busy popular pub. Friendly service and decent food although it could be better. Slightly odd combinations that didn’t quite work and sauces that could have been much tastier. Meat well cooked and portions plentiful. Reasonably priced.

Just dropped in on a Sunday as it was about to rain and told no bookings available to eat. Well, were just going to have a drink at that point and left. Came back in and told we could sit by the entrance and then when I inquired about just having soup was told that a table was free if we would leave by a certain time. Which is what we did. Others who dropped in were turned away by the staff and not even offered a chance to sit by the door or outside as it never rained. We left when asked. The stilton and broccoli soup was lovely, The food we saw others eating looked wonderful. It IS tiny - just a few rooms and dogs are let in - but they were quieter than the customers!

Small family run pub with bar and restaurant that I use regularly to drink and occasionally to eat. Just felt that after an excellent quality meal last night with the usual great service and atmosphere this was worthy of a review on Trip Advisor.

A fantastic Oxfordshire pub with delectable food! I ordered a special which was a roasted Barbary duck breast with a mixed leaf salad and Parmesan shaving chips and I ordered a dessert which was a blackberry cheesecake with ice cream. Both the main and dessert were flavourful! The landlady was very amiable and the service was perfect! I will return to this Brakspear pub again as the Specials choices are very useful as well as fantastic!

Staff seemed kind, but not overly welcoming to new faces. No kiddy menu, but can do smaller main menu portions. Food quality was fantastic though. Best battered fish n chips i've tasted in this area, and the cajun chicken burger is huge.

In this part of Southern Oxfordshire we have access to a number of excellent places to eat and the Unicorn is right up there with them. Their specials board particularly offered a number of inventive and very enjoyable options, all at a reasonable price. For quality, service and price the Unicorn takes a lot of beating!

The whole experience was amazing, they have a great atmosphere and the quality of the food is outstanding. Also, the staff are very welcoming and are up for a good chat.

Visited for lunch on Saturday. Had to wait about 40 minutes for the food, but it was all good food, very much full of flavour and tasty. The drinks we ordered (lemonade/soda) were not good, though...they replaced the syrup for us but it was still set too low and had no flavour. I suspect their machine needs adjusting or something is wrong with it as there was very little syrup. We would have had more to drink but didn't because of that. Overall, great food and friendly service but pity about the drinks.

Just had the most delicious Vegetarian Sunday roast, so many different vegetables and a Yorkshire Pudding filled with mushrooms, walnuts etc,. Have to say we were most impressed and will definitely return. Thank you to Chef and staff.

Go to the unicorn fairly often but having recently become vegetarian I have new struggles with the menu. I called ahead and asked if it was possible to have vegetarian sausages and mash and they said absolutely. It came out and was delicious!

Not our first, but definitely our last visit to the Unicorn. Our meals came out cold. They were taken in amd I presume zapped in the microwave. One meal was warmer the other was still cold. The staff were not bothered or particularly apologetic.

3 of us came for lunch early on a Sunday and received quite easily the best roast we’ve ever had at a restaurant. The food was absolutely perfect and came within 10 minutes of sitting down. Really friendly and attentive service 🙂

Went for lunch and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Great food, excellent service and very reasonably priced. Excellent wines as well and all in all, a great lunch experience. I highly recommend the Unicorn.

Researched on line, went for lunch. Remote position at a crossroads. Very old, needs a thorough clean. Two windows passable, one dirty. Original floorboards need a good clean. Tables need a good wash. Menu uninteresting. "Pink lamb" off-putting. Beer good. Decided not to stay.

This Unicorn has improved itself and is worth a try. I'd describe the menu as a pretty standard one but one that does a few things well rather than a lot not so well.

Great atmosphere warm and welcoming with great service. Food all good pub fare and reasonably priced. The sausage and mash is great and theirs pies always good. Would definitely return great value for the money.

A warm cosy atmosphere by a blazing log fire. This is a traditional family run country pub. The bar side seating is really comfortable, drinks were served quickly, the menu, consisting of bar snacks, main menu and deserts are are reasonably priced.

An early evening meal was thoroughly enjoyable with unexpected half price house wine. A full menu and a lovely serving lady. My only regret was spotting the lamb cutlets as I left and being too full to start again.

We had a good meal with friendly service last week. We visit this place a lot. Often for a quick drink and some chips on a Sunday. The food is tasty and interesting, with a small but well designed menu.

Nuestra primera vez bajo la nueva administración y nos gustó el personal amable y el ambiente, puede que no hayamos necesitado el fuego, pero la quema de troncos es encantadora. Era un concurso de noches así que la zona del bar estaba muy ocupada y eso es agradable de ver. Solo buscábamos comida liviana: teníamos un plato de palomas, gambas y papas fritas. A un precio muy razonable y la paloma fue el mejor que había tenido en mucho tiempo.

Since my last visit I had been advised that there was a new landlord, new staff, a new menu and a new attitude. All of these proved to be correct. It's back on the list.

We love this place. The food is excellent, top notch, and I would highly recommend the Sunday roast. They cater for children with a wholesome menu and there’s room in the garden to have a run about.

A very good pub dining and drinking experience, a pint sized pub with a decent garden and new (4 months in) owners who seem passionate and capable. Burger was an 8/10 (no Brioche bun and a little light on relish) and Halloumi fries as a starter with homemade tomato relish were [probably a 9/10.

The Unicorn has recently been taken over and my first experience wasn't great. However, in much need of a good roast, we walked up to our local pub.

We all had roast beef and it was great to be asked how we all liked it (including my daughter who likes it more well done), Looked great on the plate and was all delicious including my request for extra gravy no problem. The only thing I would ask for would be a couple more roast potatoes, as the plate only featured two which I felt short-changed about. Puddings were also great. Will come again.

We did one if the breakspear pub walk and went into the pub for lunch. The staff very friendly.A lovely real fire burning.I had the jerk chicken burger it was delicious. My husband had a burger.

Stopped at the Unicorn during a Henley to Pangbourne walk. It was quiet when we arrived, and the service was truly exceptional. I have to say that I haven't had such polite and friendly service at a pub in England ever. Food was excellent too...

Good, honest pub food, fresh salad and good quality. The butternut squash with harissa was really delightful. Dogs are welcome making it a plus for us. Not a huge menu but a reasonable variety of dishes.

He revisado este pub antes de nuestra primera visita, pero ahora han vuelto varias veces. Tuvimos una noche buena en la gestión de concursos y tapas se fijan en un ambiente muy agradable. El personal es muy amable y te hacen sentir muy bienvenido. Volví para el almuerzo y la comida era deliciosa y un generoso tamaño de la porción, muy buena relación calidad-precio. La casera me que todo fue satisfactorio. He leído otras no tan favorable comentarios aquí, pero no estoy seguro de unicornio y personal de ellos merecen ya estábamos más que contentos con el servicio. Sin duda volveremos.

He escrito dos anteriores de unicornio, pero esta es la primera desde que el propietario actual se hizo cargo. Mi esposa y yo hemos visitado para bebidas un par de veces y decidimos probar en el almuerzo. Nos dieron una cálida bienvenida por parte de la señorita atendiendo a la barra y mesas. Después de conseguir nuestras bebidas, fuimos a nuestra mesa. Las cervezas, podría mencionar, son excelentes y muy bien cuidado. Empezamos con un cóctel tradicional de gambas, bien presentado una muy buena porción en un vaso alto, con pan fresco serie y mantequilla. Para nuestros platos principales mi esposa tenía el Shepherd's Pie y tuve el jamón tradicional, huevos y patatas fritas. Había una buena cantidad de "jamón" en rodajas gruesas, no decente la cosas, magnífica huevos envoltorios variedad y patatas fritas realmente bueno, pero fresco como thickish debería ser. A mi esposa le encantó el Pastor Tarta aunque ella dijo que estaba grasienta. Estábamos los dos después de esta, pero había varios postres tentadores en oferta. Sólo había una muy pequeña decepción - no torneo Drambuie tener con nuestro café, pero prometieron para conseguir algo para nuestra próxima visita.

Fuimos a la última noche esperando comida unicorn buena, pero no fue así. El servicio lento significa que conseguimos nuestra comida en 9:00 pm para una mesa reservado para 7. 30. El bacalao era tan salada que tuvimos que devolverlo, y parecía como si la carne que habían dividido en 3 2 comidas eran tan pequeñas. Cuando mencioné nuestra decepción fue reunido con agresión y ni una sola disculpa. Nuestro flan en el cercano maltsters brazos compensa. Estaban contentos de servirnos más tarde y nos hicieron sentir bienvenidos. Sabemos donde nos vamos a ir la próxima vez!

Visitamos a la familia como había oído grandes cosas sobre el nuevo chef y era muy emocionados de probar la comida. Llegamos una tarde muy concurrido, así que había un poco de espera por comida, lo que estábamos dispuestos a hacer, y la camarera nos ofreció un montón de bocadillos, y conmutadores para sostenernos, que era genial. De las 4 comidas 2 eran preciosas y exactamente lo que esperábamos, cuando después de leer tan buenas críticas, las raciones eran de un buen tamaño, no demasiado grande, pero lo suficiente y con gran favores. Por desgracia a mí y a mi madre que tenía el bacalao era aproximadamente la mitad del tamaño de otros 2 comidas y no era tal como se describe en el menú. Dice envuelto en jamón de Parma, sino un pequeño pedazo de gamon situada en la parte superior. Sin embargo, el bacalao era preciosa, el risotto estaba increíblemente salados, así que me pareció difícil para comer, pero tenía que ya que estábamos muy hambrientos. Entendemos que estaban ocupados, pero me sentía un poco malo juntos, como fue el final de la noche y por 15 libras por parte nos fuimos con una sensación muy decepcionados con la comida y todavía hambre. No plantear esta con la camarera, aunque parecía pasar desapercibidos. A Sunday roast is a sacred thing.... one of those meals we all hold dear; a time to be together as a family in relaxed surroundings.The Unicorn was our chosen destination last Sunday mainly because, when we called to book, they offered a vegetarian option. In some regards they tick all the boxes, the pub itself has a lovely traditional feel about it. It is clean and nicely decorated. The welcome we received was unreservedly warm.There is ample parking and a secluded garden but it is very tired. Dog mess on the lawn, old pagoda and BBQ areas and dirty tables. We have children and had to move indoors, despite the sunny weather, as the language at the neighbouring table was unsuitable for young ears. Bizarrely these very patrons seemed to be family members of the owner.Signs outside announce a new chef and having eaten here before we were interested to see what changes he would bring. The menu looked varied and interesting and the oven baked camembert was a perfectly lovely starter. Ideal to share and served with a delicious onion relish and soft oozing roasted garlic.However the mains were dreadful. The lentil roast was like a hard inedible loaf. The taste was strange and not at all pleasant. The vegetables were either raw (broccoli) or supersoft (carrots) and the whole plate was strangely garnished with fried vegetable peelings. I think these should have been crispy. They weren't but this could have been because the childrens' meals arrived five minutes after ours so we had to wait to start.The children had egg and chips. The chips were translucent with grease. You could literally wring them out. Unheard of to see children leaving a plate of chips, but they did!As a result we didn't risk desserts and coffee which was a shame as the choices read well.One thing that did impress us was the readiness of the waitress and subsequently the friendly owner to check we were happy with our food. This is a rare and glorious thing. We were asked on more than one occasion and our plates told the story in any case.It is difficult to completely pick a meal apart without seeming rude. So we kept it top line and in any case the owner very kindly offered to refund one meal so we paid up and left. Maybe the chef is finding his feet and I hope the pretty garden gets a spruce up before Summer season but I don't think we will risk The Unicorn again with our special meals... after all Sunday lunches are the things memories are made of.

We were informed when we went to order that certain items were off the menu - fair enough - however having then ordered we were informed that other things were also off (last time we went we were told there was no coffee as the machine had broken - OK, I can accept that but not alternative arrangements had been made; a cafetiere would not have been beyond the whit of man one might have thought).The food was just about OK and the service was somewhat iffy. shan't bother again.

Starting with the positives, this pub is very pretty and I had a great chat with some of the people in there. However I don't think this can be attributed to the management. They spent more time sitting with friends/family than attending their pub, we were almost ignored at the bar and had to wave to get a beer.The food was bland, my friend had the burger and the meat was bland and overdone, bread stale and chips flavourless. Mine was no better, I left feeling the lady behind the bar would have done a better job as the cook. Normally I'll happily raise my concerns but I don't feel like this was out of the ordinary looking at other diner's platesDetermined to enjoy our evening we hung around for drinks but soon felt we were intruding and got the feeling the person behind the bar would rather we paid and left. So we did.

We chanced upon The Unicorn after walking in nearby woods with kids and Labrador. From the outside it looks a bit "rough around the edges" but as we found it through a dog friendly restaurant site we thought we'd give it a go. Arriving at around 3.30pm the place was pretty busy but it's deceptively big inside and we were shown to a table. Drinks were quickly served and our food order taken.3 roasts and a burger arrived in good time and we were very very impressed. Lovely well cooked meat, seasonal veg and beautiful roasties. In fact my little girl who originally chose a burger ended up 'sharing' our lunches instead. The chef popped out and when he saw this delivered some extra roast potatoes which were very much appreciated by all. Only 3 of us had pudding but the crumble was particularly good. Although not 'cheap' I thought the food was spot on and will definitely be heading back again. The service was incredibly friendly and topped off a lovely afternoon perfectly.

We came here for lunch and after waiting for a while we received our order. Beef Burger was ok but the Fish Burger was awful hardly any fish surrounded by a overly greasy batter cooked in oil that clearly has not been changed. I raised this when I went to pay the bill and the answer I received was "I will tell the chef" no apology or I will knock that off the bill - what a joke. We wont be back. We went to the Rising Sun in Stoke Row so my Mrs could have something to eat and highly recommended other than this place.

Walked here and was made very welcome including a water bowl for our little dog. We had lunch and an excellent pint of Breakspears Ale. Very reasonable price for the food with great service.

Thank you to Dicky & the team for hosting my 50th birthday party at the weekend. We all had a fabulous time and the pub provided the perfect venue for what I wanted (cozy country pub, exclusively ours for the evening). The buffet was great and staff all very helpful, both in helping me plan the event beforehand and on the night itself! I also visited with family for a Sunday roast a few weeks before & that was excellent too. I can thoroughly recommend!

Had a lovely Sunday Lunch to mark the end of a fantastic family half term break. We turned up without a reservation and I think we were very fortunate to find a free table. Others that arrived after us did seem to have a bit of a wait. There was a lovely open fire in the bar area and the pub is in a lovely idyllic location. The staff were friendly and accommodating, particularly given my feral 1 year old who seemed to be deliberately trying to trip up the waitresses. The food was good and the portions were generous. We left feeling satisfied and well looked after.
