Kings Arms in South Oxfordshire

We attended on Burns night. The restaurant was busy but not packed. We were served by David. I had the Burns night special which was very nice indeed, food was hot and well presented. My wife being gluten free had gammon with jacket potato and same applied to hers. The service was very good and presented in a welcoming manner. I would like to point out that behind us there was a very loud table, having had their food then decided to complain to David about the standard of it and said they had, had unforgettable evening. I’m not sure where that came from but one of the women became very abrupt and making demands which from where I sat was out of order, but credit to David he handled in a professional manner and calmed the situation down without effecting the other diners. We had a very enjoyable evening. Alan also served us and Mark behind the bar contributed to the success of the evening.

Went for breakfast, good service and Amina who served us couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful would recommend 👍👍👍

Came out for Lunch today with a friend and we had smothered chicken and a cheese toastie and the food was nice, well cooked and quick I definitely recommend. We was served by hannah.s she was amazing and attentive. She was rushed of her feet but she always made sure we was looked after and making sure her other customers were looked after too with a smile. Very professional. Will be back.

Went for Christmas lunch. It was good, but not great. The food was very good, but at Xmas, would have expected something on the table to make it look different to just any other day's pub lunch. There were crackers, yes, but it just fell a bit short for us. A special day, didn't seem very special. Our server was very attentive, and helpful, however got the feeling that perhaps they were a couple of staff down, as we did have to wait for drinks and desserts.

Just had a Sunday morning coffee, was perfect

The food was lovely this evening. Definitely recommend the steak and ale pie. Excellent service. David was really attentive and was happy to help with a slight order change.

Visited 1st with our granddaughter for breakfast with Santa which was just a miracle for her and fantastic memories for us as grandparents, we then decided to return without granddaughter for dinner on NYE, as we wanted to do something but didn’t want to just go to the pub for drinks, We 💯 picked the right choice our meal was absolutely delicious.

Friendly pub with a nice atmosphere, and our waitress Amina was very helpful and welcoming. A good location to go for a walk along the river from.

Food was pretty mediocre (particularly for the price) and did not match the menu in certain aspects. Wouldn't go again. However, the service was from Hannah was good

Popped out for an evening meal with a couple of friends, Great service provided throughout the evening from David. Highly recommend, food was delicious and lovely atmosphere. Will visit again soon when back in the area!

Not so good tonight. Busy when we arrived and possibly not enough staff on. Waited ages for our drinks to arrive and had to go to the bar to ask where they were. Lady was just doing our drinks so I went and sat back down and then waited. The waitress said she would bring our order but still waiting and then saw that our drinks order was ready so went over and got it myself. Went with friends tonight and it seems that there are new staff. The menu has changed and all our meals were very nice. We also had a pudding, rice pudding with strawberries and 3 small shortcake biscuits, very nice. It made a change from the usual puddings.

The waiter service was excellent but simple instructions about my food failed to get materialised which leaves a bad taste in the mouth (pun unintended)

On the 13th December we had a family Christmas party with our extended family. It was hosted by Amina who catered for our every needs etc. excellent service in a very relaxing atmosphere. Thank you

Visited as one of a group of 31 for a Christmas dinner. The food was excellent, as we're the staff. Dave, the main waiter for our group, really went out of his way to ensure everything went well.

Me and a friend came in for lunch at your Sandford Lane chef and brewer. We were served by Hannah. Very patient and friendly and all round enjoyable experience.

Our first meal out when we moved here was The Kings Arms, Sandford. It was great. It's taken us a year to come back for another superb Sunday roast. The staff are genuinely concerned with customer care, the prices are fair, the atmosphere warm and food delicious. If it wasn't for the wobbly table, which we soon fixed it would be five stars. We won't leave it so long next time.

10 of visited here today for my dads 80th birthday we all had Sunday dinner which was excellent with a great atmosphere,staff very friendly and attentive.would highly recommend

Excellent service, 5 friends out for a meal, my seabass was ok one steak was delicious and 3 fish and chips were excellent once the chips had been replaced, they were hard and been sitting for a while, there were replaced immediately with no problem and with a smile, well done kings arms.

Our waitress Hannah was amazing and incredibly patient with our table. Amazing lunch and our grandparents want to go back already!

It's expensive and slow service when it's not particularly busy. Since they changed the menu, it's overpriced and not nearly as nice as it once was. I won't be wasting my money in there again.

We went here to celebrate our 52nd wedding anniversary. We were not disappointed. A very friendly welcome and great food to boot. Amina our waitress was simply brilliant and helped us book a family celebration during the Xmas season.

The food was awful. Fish pie had two pieces of fish in and 1 new potato and a peice of toast. Meet was cheap and gristly. Starters were frozen food all batter no squid. Food all came out at different times and one meal was forgotten about. Lovely waitress sorted us out the bill.

I was served by a lovely girl called Hannah couldn't of thanked her enough!..what a attentive bubbly waitress..the food was amazing..a bit of river Zen was just what was needed. :)

Went on a Wednesday afternoon so very quiet. Ordered some drinks and food (Venison Burgers and Chicken duo and some desserts). All very tasty. Hannah S. was providing the service and she was very prompt, courteous and happy! It's dog friendly and Hannah provided some doggy biscuits for the happy dawg! Nice location by the river. Will be in the Spring/Summer to explore the riverside.

Visited with friends for a Sunday roast, which was delicious. Slow cooked beef was amazing. They were very accommodating, changing our seating time to earlier than we had booked and then allowed us to change to a round table. Seemed very busy so I would recommend booking. Excellent, position on the edge of the river Thames. Perfect for eats and a walk.

Made an online booking for 1pm but arriving was told they did not have my booking and i must have booked a different Kings Arms! Not a good start but we were seated but advised of the several non availablity menu items. Thankfully Hannah quickly arrived smiling and soon got a high chair. Hannah is an asset to the pub and was really pleasant and friendly. The Kings Arms is such a lovely pub situated by the river. Unfortunately the food served leaves a lot to be desired. We do go there quite often but never know what the food will be like, it really does need to be better.

This was a lovely surprise. I had not visited in a few years and was impressed by the new decor (the theme pattern extending from the menu through to the wallpaper of the lavatories), warm and welcoming ambience and indeed the warm and friendly welcome we received. Our visit was in response to reading about a breakfast deal for walkers in October and although the manager had not been updated on this deal, he was calm and nice about it and immediately settled us in. We really enjoyed the warm and very attractive interior, as well as the view onto the lovely lock. Our breakfast sandwiches were good and hot drinks appreciated after our chilly but gloriously sunny early walk. The promotion has done its work as we are now re-acquainted with this lovely eating pub and are sure to return. Even as we left, staff clearing the nice outside eating area politely thanked us for coming - all these little things make a great impression. Well done, Kings Arms!

The food is good for the price, but what really elevated the experience was the service and waiting from the waitress Hannah.S. Always served with a smile, and prepared to always meet our needs. Made us feel extremely welcome and important (and we’re definitely not😁)

Very tasty Sunday evening meal. Great wine at decent price. Beer selection could be broader. Lovely staff who are clearly overstretched but attentive, friendly and helpful. I would implore management to have more people on shift to make it even better for patrons and more manageable for the hard working staff members. Great place to sit out on a nice day too and a stunning location.

We were served by Amna who was great. Everything arrived fast. We ordered gammon and fish and chips. The fish and chips was a bit over priced and small. Peas were watery but all tasted nice. The service was so lovely and cheerful. All the staff were nice from the meet and greet to the mini out and coffee. It’s a chef and brewer it’s a pub with pub food.

Only one chef cooking so we waited 50 mins for our meal. But it was good eating when it arrived.

Drinks are standard but apparently they don't serve you sunday lunch if you don't make a booking. Which they don't mention anywhere on their google posting nor in the pub itself. We cycled 24 minutes to have a nice sunday roast today at 1.30pm only to be unceremoniously turned away because we had no booking. There were still lots of empty tables and they didn't look that busy so I don't get why they have this rule. We've been for drinks before but will not be returning to this pub anymore.

We booked a table last night and had a great time with our friends. They did experience problems in the kitchen which affected the food availability, due to an issue with the equipment. It did take a long time to get our meal and there was a bit of a muddle with our order. However, I am still giving it 5 stars due to how they dealt with this. The food was good, the service from all staff was friendly and they compensated us for the issues with our order. You could see how busy they were, yet we were spoken to with a smile and they were efficient with the service. Hannah was lovely and served us the majority of the evening - she must be exhausted with how much she was doing.

We were greeted at the door by Hannah S. she was lovely and welcoming. We hadn’t booked but she seated us straight away. This was mid week at lunch time. There was a large party and several smaller tables of which Hannah appeared to be attending all. She was super, and the only reason I’ve given the visit 3 stars is due to her. The food was poor, cold and disappointing. I know they were short staffed, and hope that the food standard would improve if fully staffed. The only highlight was the standard of service by Hannah S. She was excellent.

Called in to suss the pub one lunchtime for first time. Only had ice cream and shandy but really enjoyed it. Staff v friendly especially Hannah S who was most helpful. 4 star food because we only had ice cream and 4 star service because we called in right in middle of lunch and they were packed.

Spot of lunch at the King's arms with friends was lovely place to gather and have a catch up. The service from Alex was really on point and making us feel welcomed. And the food was delicious!

We have visited on our walk with our dog and we had a wonderful time! The food was absolutely amazing! The staff was very friendly and attentive, they have brought water and treats for our dog. Even we could see they are busy, they have provided an excellent service and we just had the best time. Absolutely amazing! Thank you so much.

Rude staff long wait and overpriced terrible food

The food is not bad, and there are very nice gardens and river views around, BUT they really need to improve their customer service and hospitality, as they ruined my visit last time.

Amina was friendly, efficient, and was able to advise us on allergens. Overall, a lovely lunch before getting back on the road.

Setting is brilliant. Food is OK. The staff are friendly but just need more support from management.

I visited here with my wife for a spot of dinner earlier in the week. Was seated by a lovely respectable well mannered waitress. This pub is in a beautiful setting. Lovely food but this can vary as not all occasions i have visited and the food was up to standard. Although the food wasn't the best what made us sure that we would visit again was our lovely waitress (Emily.A) very happy to communicate and make us feel welcome. Very friend and a real asset to this pub. And does not make anything to difficult for us. Very helpful and lovely. Will visit this pub again

Awful. Waited an hour on Sunday afternoon for a COLD roast beef dinner. Aunt Bessie's rank roast potatoes. Absolutely dire. Horrendous.

Visiting this lovely pub right next to a lovely river sat with friends and family with a spectaular river view on a lovely fine tuesday evening. Food was average. But customer service from our waitress Emily.A and it has turnt our visit from a 4 to a 10. She is very considerate. Kind and has tried to really advice and help and recommend different things from the menu as well as go out of her way to give us a wonderful experience

Went for dinner - gorgeous pub, really good menu with a balance of vegetarian, meat, fish dishes, nice range of non-alcoholic drinks as well as a good wine menu, and the service was excellent.

Pub by the river; great location. We ordered seabass, gammon, extra chips, beer and a bottle of white wine. No great expectations really as I had umpteen disappointing food experiences in British pubs. The food that we had that day was mediocre, eatable. The server, Charlotte, (if I remember her name right) was a star: well-mannered and did her job with enthusiasm and love. Such attitude is rarely experienced / witnessed nowadays by me when I go to the pubs. BUT we had an unforgettable awful experience on how the assistant manager on-duty on 19th Aug 2024 around 2pm treated us: rude, cold and racist. I so wanted to have pudding after our main course but my friends were so disappointed with his behaviour so they begged to just go to The Store Oxford instead to have pudding and hot drinks. I remember I even thanked the asst manager several times after my inquiry, after placing our order and when he served our beer and wine but he was colder than our drinks and Thames river; didn’t acknowledge my thanks. How unusual! Brits are usually nice, polite and friendly. I would still come back to this pub soon because of the lovely and well-mannered server, Charlotte. I would still try to give a chance and to support British pubs.
