The best restaurants serving British food in South East

The Gallivant is a wonderful oasis on the South Coast , it felt like the Hamptons for my short stay. I had a great yoga class and ate at Harrys twice , the food was delicious and perfectly cooked. Its a wonderful time of year to go and the staff (special thanks to Lindsey) were very kind and accommodating of my dog who loved the garden and exploring. I do intend to return as soon as I can.

The recent renovation has certainly paid off—this restaurant now boasts a lovely decor with a warm, inviting atmosphere. The views are a real highlight, making it a great spot for a relaxed meal. However, the experience was somewhat let down by the service. It was a busy afternoon, and it seemed like the restaurant could have used more staff to keep up with the demand. The long wait of over two hours for our main course was particularly frustrating and took away from the overall enjoyment of the meal. As for the food, it was decent but not outstanding. The roast potatoes were a bit too hard, and the crumble for dessert wasn’t the best. That said, other elements of the meal were enjoyable, and with a bit more attention to detail, the kitchen could deliver a more consistent experience. Overall, this restaurant has a lot of potential. The setting and ambiance are fantastic, but improvements in service and some refinements in the food would make a significant difference.

Well where do I start.....! We ordered 2 adult vegan meals, 1 children's vegan meal, 1 adults burger meal and 1 meat free carvery. The meat free option at the carvery was 2 yorkshire puddings (?) It was all only luke-warm and very bland. The vegan burgers arrived with bacon in them. We sent them back and were told that it would be another 15 minutes to get fresh burgers. The children's meal was left on the counter and not brought over so we collected it ourselves. When the fresh vegan burgers arrived they were served with a side on coleslaw in mayonnaise. At the end of our meal we had to go and ask for the children's ice lolly which took another 10 mins to arrive. It wasn't particularly busy time as there were lots of empty tables. This was very disappointing as we had had a very nice meal there 2 days before. I will not be returning!

Upon arrival was asked to sit outside which is fair enough if they’re busy inside. Ordered food at the table and after a 45 minute wait for some heated up meals was told that food is at least an hour wait. Seems like something we should have been told beforehand, but obviously not. 1 hour 10 minutes later the starter chicken wings came out without the blue cheese dip. Told the cutlery and napkins were inside only to be told “that’s just greedy” for taking a few napkins. Service is shocking to say the least, fair enough if you’re busy but a bit of clarity wouldn’t go a miss. Still waiting on the mains as I’m writing this, won’t hold my breath that they’re complete either. Moody staff, the two brothers in Southampton was a much, MUCH better sizzling pub chain experience. Would NOT come back here again.

The meals have been down sized portions

Cuando caminé hacia la puerta principal me pregunté si el lugar estaba realmente abierto, ya que estaba tan vacío, deteriorado y muerto. ¡Lamento no haberme dado la vuelta! El servicio era lento. Llegué 30 minutos antes del cierre de la cocina y me dijeron que tenía que pedir rápidamente y luego tuve que esperar 25 minutos para que alguien tomara mi pedido, luego otros 10 minutos para que viniera una bebida. La comida era basura y no vale la pena el precio.

Booked our daughter's birthday meal here for us and 10 children, food was great, staff were lovely and very accommodating, couldn't ask for more, would recommend :)

Food was great no issues there, it was very quiet when we visited, so atmospheres a bit dead, staff are ok not rude but not the happiest i have ever seen.

A great place to stop and refresh.

Went for breakfast. Food very good and a buffet.

Food was fine and David was great front of house, nothing was too much trouble. Good visit.

Decided to have roast with family today when food eventually arrived vegetables were missing we sat there waiting approximately 10 minutes had to ask in the end by this time food stone cold , nothing to serve veg with had to use fork for swede and cabbage, really guys come on a bit more organisation with staff is needed, real shame as food was fine but ruined due to being cold. Staff did apologise and knocked some off bill to be fair but unfortunately will not be returning anytime soon.

Nearest pub to Wotton Hotel if you fancy eating out. Shabby exterior but really quite nicely decorated inside with a conservatory. Very polite and friendly restaurant manager. Food is unfortunately pretty average for the price. I had salmon which was nice but it came with 3 small new potatoes and 6 green beans! I had to order more veg which bumps up the meal price. My partner had lamb which he complained about as it was so very fatty. Again, very light on the veg. Service was very slow- maybe due to the fact a large party had ordered in front of us. The management did take a glass of wine off the bill for the poor lamb meal but really should have done more. Wouldn’t go back.

We came for lunch on Saturday after choosing the pub for a meeting point with friends, the pub was busy but the two lovely people on the host who I found out their names are Jess and Chey were kind friendly and asked us to register our car registration which I found very helpful. We had the charcuterie plate to start and for mains we had fish and chips was amazing and the steak and tanglefoot pie which was delicious, the service from the team was fantastic and I will Most definitely be telling all of my friends to come and visit
