Told no seating with a pushchair and told I can only sit in the bar area with a 3 month old baby!! Plenty of seating in restaurant and a ramp although would simply lift pushchair if not. Terrible customer service and very rude. I assume not wheelchair friendly either then if couldn't accommodate a pushchair. Will never go here again made to feel an inconvenience and as a new mother I found them very unkind.

Manager & Staff very friendly, Before going we checked on the website if The White Swan was dog friendly which it mentioned it was. On arrival told we could only eat in the pub side as dogs not allowed in restaurant area, no problem with that (that fact could be mentioned on the wedsite). We both decided we would go for the Carvey and decided roast beef and all the trimmings. Well the chef carved us off very small slices of beef and a enormous Yorkshire pudding. The roast potatoes, parsnips, peas, carrots & cauliflower where warm but not hot, soon got cold when on your plate. Cost was fine. We left feeling disappointed and we will not be going back.

The White Swan in Southampton is a charming riverside pub with a rich history dating back to the early 1800s. Located on the banks of the River Itchen, it offers picturesque views and a tranquil setting for enjoying a meal or a drink. The pub's exterior features a classic brick facade with large windows that let in plenty of natural light. There is also outdoor seating available at the back, overlooking the river, and at the front, facing the road. Inside, the pub is spacious and well-appointed, with a mix of traditional and contemporary decor. The bar area is cozy and inviting, with exposed brick walls, wooden beams, and a roaring fireplace. There is also a large dining area with comfortable seating and plenty of space for groups. The White Swan is known for its carvery, which features a selection of roasted meats, vegetables, and Yorkshire puddings. The menu also includes a variety of other pub classics, such as fish and chips, burgers, and salads. The pub has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and the staff are always happy to help. It is a popular spot for both locals and visitors, and it is often busy on weekends and during the summer months. Overall, the White Swan is a great place to enjoy a delicious meal, a relaxing drink, and stunning views of the River Itchen. It is a true Southampton institution, and it is well worth a visit.

Food was tasty, but the carvery meat portion was quite stingy compared to other carveries we’ve been to that are cheaper. They gave us half a slice of gammon… and half a slice of pork. They also assume you don’t want the delicious fat. The guy cut it off with a big chunk of the meat and chucked it in the bin without first asking if I wanted it. I don’t go out for a roast to healthy… 😂 leave it on or at least ask. Please don’t Chuck it in the bin 🤦‍♀️ meat should never be wasted!

Lovely place to visit with great views and food. Carvery is the best around! Highly recommend! However, the following has ruined our experience today of a pub/restaurant that we love but the food was still as great as it always is so we have still given 5 stars for this! FYI: Service dogs and assistance dogs are not the same. Assistance dogs are not required by law to be registered or carry an i.d like a service dog would. However they are still covered under the Equality Act 2010 and it is against the law to ask for the reason why someone requires an assistance dog! Making customers feel uncomfortable by trying to call them out on them having an assistance dog is classed as discrimination. Making comments which were clearly heard by the customers and made them feel even more uncomfortable is also classed as discrimination! Please just educate yourself and your staff on the laws around disabilities as not all of them are visible. Thankyou. EDIT: Have visited again since the above happened and was greeted by the same negativity and hostility from a certain member of staff. It's a real shame that hidden disabilities are being discriminated against and people are made to feel unwelcome by people like this! Due to this, i am removing a star from my review! Food still remains at a 5* but unfortunately this particular member of staff is bringing the rating down!

I booked a family meal here and whilst the service from the young man was fantastic, the food was shocking! I had the veggie melt in the middle roast, the taste was awful, a weird combination of a nut roast with supposedly a camembert middle, the cheese wasn't camembert, it tasted more like a blue cheese, too strong for the nut roast. My partner had a beef roast with 1 slice of beef, just not good enough. They won't improve their game as they are just feeding the masses. Shocking.

Good value week day carvery, though a little tight on the meat and a limited selection of the rest of the roast. It also can end up a little 'gloopy' with much of it in sauces (eg cheesy pasta?). None the less for a carvery on a budget it was still quite acceptable.

Staff were very welcoming and helpful. A very homely bar area; dining area likened to other carverys, lots of seating. I asked if I could have the more well done piece of beef from one end of the joint but was informed it was all the same and he surprisingly, despite my asking, said he wouldn't cut the end I had requested... the pork was very good but sadly no crackling (always a favourite part of a roast pork dinner)... Turkey also good. Dinner of the vegetable trays were nearly empty and not refilled for some time.... all sources had run out in the serving dishes..on asking a very lovely waitress kindly brought some to our table, however (despite it only being 6.45pm on a Friday evening) they had totally run out of apple sauce which was a shame. Roast potatoes and other veg were good. We certainly had more than enough to eat. The toilets are in need of some tlc, needed cleaning as a starter from top to bottom and a new coat of paint and one sink tap was broken, the wooden sides looked like they've seen better days. Overall, I would still say if you want a filling bite to eat or somewhere to meet and have a drink before/after a flight it would probably hit the spot for you, but if you're after a fancy night out this would not be my first choice. Depends what you're looking for. Thank you to our very tentative waitresses... they were all very accommodating and happy.

As soon as me and my partner and my 1 year old daughter got to the pub we was greeted with a shout and an argumentative lady at the front desk. We accidentally booked table for 2 people instead of 3, the 3rd being my daughter. I did add a high chair on the comments sections however the lady was extremely rude and shouted at us in front of a line full of customers to the point where I almost began to cry. I never felt such a bad atmosphere and welcoming in any restaurant I’ve been too. We was celebrating my partners first Father’s Day today due to not being able to on the actual day and this just ruined it for us. She said how I should of booked for 3 people, how she has to now make a fuss to move our table , now has to move her high chair - which she even slammed down when we got to the table. We was debating to leave however our server Lesley made up for the horribleness out of the lady at the front desk Even though all this happened, my actual server was really nice and very friendly. The food was amazing however we won’t be returning due to this particular lady.

Food was lovely however the woman who served us was incredibly rude and patronising. One of our group had forgotten ID so happily changed their order to a Pepsi rather than an alcoholic drink after we’d already paid, fair enough that’s on us. However the woman serving us seemed to make a bigger deal out of it than us patronising our group member calling her “the little one” and chastising us multiple times loudly in front of a busy bar for not remembering ID. Refund for the drink we didn’t get wasn’t offered and we felt like a nuisance for asking for it. Again food was lovely and majority of staff was nice, just some training needed for this one member

Went in for breakfast in April, was lovely so gathered a few friends for a catch up, went in 19/5/24. Greeted by a rude woman, no smile, annoyed tone of voice and we got the impression we had pis$ed her off as we hadn't booked. Wasn't told last time we had to. She also later snatched a nearly empty coffee jug from one of us when we were getting drinks. No words spoken. An 'I'll take that please' would have been fitting. When we were seated, another lady with a tablet reeling off questions, again tone of voice just rude and didn't look up until we asked for scrambled egg. When we went to pay we felt told off because we wanted to pay separately and should have gone to the bar. We had no problem with it, just ask us to go up there, not whinge and then take our payments anyway. Food was fabulous, just ruined by people who we feel don't like their job. Not sure we will meet there again.
