Called in here for Sunday lunch, roast lamb. It was very good, plenty of lovely vegetables and service was excellent.

We stayed for a night to go shopping in Southampton. The White Star was an absolute gem! Quirky, comfortable and friendly. The Titanic history references were a great addition. Bridget couldn’t have made us feel more welcome and Jack made us very welcome at Breakfast. Thank you so much for a lovely break. We’ll definitely return.

Stayed there last night before going on a cruise. From booking,very helpful moved us to a lower floor,to the welcoming young lady who checked us in. First class service. Room very nice, and clean and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast great. Would definitely come again.

We had an amazing stay at the White Star! The location was in a quaint neighborhood with many restaurants nearby. We had the recommended fish and chips for lunch and it was wonderful. All of the staff are friendly and helpful. Brenda is amazing and really helped us so much. The room was nice with so much included. We ended the stay with a yummy cooked to order breakfast. I highly recommend the White Star! Cheers!

Excellent pre-cruise stay. Bridgett and all of the staff were lovely and so helpful! We hope to stay here again. Breakfast and lunch were also delicious.

The room was the top floor I struggled to get up there I would say with my experience the room didn't justify the cost we paid for a big room and to be honest it wasn't the best due to the location on the top floor I asked for a refund however I think that a young person may like the location

First class Sunday lunch - our pork was perfectly cooked and delicious, ample, tasty sides. Service friendly and efficient, nice ambience. Excellent choice of desserts, the Guinness and espresso sticky toffee pudding will be addictive. Plenty of table room and proper cloth napkins, if only other eateries would follow. We will be visiting again soon.

My husband and I are just finishing up a 2 night stay at the White Star. We were in room #1. We had dinner at the restaurant our first night and breakfast both mornings. Pro’s: Beautiful area. Close to the waterfront. Walking distance to the cruise berth. Walking distance to other area historical sites. Delicious food. Friendly staff. Con’s: Bathroom window will not open. Loud music can be heard from Medbar across the street until 2am. Would we return to the White Star? Yes and no. We would return for breakfast or dinner, but not to stay overnight. We don’t blame White Star for the music at Medbar. It’s just that thumping music until 2am kept us from getting a good nights sleep.

Just called in for a refreshing drink from the heat of the day. Welcoming staff, nice seating areas and iced water available too.

I went with friends on a warm sunny day and sat outside. I ordered lamb the waitress said they had run out so i ordered pork loin, they brought me cod loin when i sent it back they said they had run out of pork so i ordered chicken they said they had run out, I ordered prawns in a sauce, they were tasteless rubbery and the sauce had no flavour at all you honestly couldn’t make it up. A very disappointing lunch.

Nice place to wait for your cruise ship. It's about a 10 minute taxi ride to Mayflower Cruise terminal but just a little too far to walk comfortably with luggage. Attractions were a bit of a walk to get to from the hotel but not a real problem. The staff was outstanding and were very focused on your needs and always willing to assist. The in-house restaurant puts out good pub food and a great breakfast. The location was central to a large selection of neighboring restaurants with a variety of food styles if you want something different. Unfortunately there's no elevators so you'll have to move your luggage up the stairs yourself; the staff may be able to assist. The rooms are comfortable and clean. I'd recommend this hotel if you're in Southampton to pick up a ship.

Super comfortable rooms, great food, very friendly service. We have greatly enjoyed staying here, will come back if ever again in Southampton.

So full disclosure, we did not stay in a room. We wandered in, wary travellers looking for a breakfast before we boarded a cruise ship. We arrived at 9:05am. A number of other tables were seated after us and their orders taken before they got to us. At one stage I went over to the waiter and politely advised that when they have a moment, we are ready to order. They rather tersely replied "When I get a second I will come over" and proceeded to do nothing. So we ordered around 9:25. Then the order took another 35 minutes before it arrived. No checking on us, no explanation. And when it arrived, let's just say it wasn't anything spectacular... Watery bland porridge that should not have taken that long to be prepared... I've had better muesli out of a cereal box and in the microwave 😞 To be very clear, at no point did we cause a fuss, were impolite or impatient. Maybe we should have been, as that seemed to get quicker service. Very disappointing. I also overheard a number of other customers commenting on the poor service they had received. I can only hope they also leave a 'real' rating, as if we had seen something like this we would have steered clear. Given it was our only day and meal in Southampton, we had hoped for better.

Who ever expects a perfectly cooked Sunday Roast beef dinner at 6pm?? Said no one !! It’s REAL .. beyond perfect ! Well done guys. Special mention to Jake. Staff and kitchen sooo good !!

Stayed here for only one night before a cruise and would definitely return next time in Southampton. The staff is so friendly and welcoming, the rooms were beautiful, and the food was delicious. The location is superb for a walk around the old city sightseeing and also close to the cruise terminal. We met a gentleman in the tavern that grew up in the town during WWII and told us some amazing and interesting facts about the town and buildings.

Excellent inn. Bar and restaurant downstairs. Also right on a main street with a bunch of shops , bars, restaurants.

Best place to stay with extraordinary hospitality and food! Very clean rooms with great decorations! Loved it, great renovation as well!

I visited with a friend for lunch on a Tuesday. The prices seemed high to me. £29.95 for the pan-fried duck breast. 18.50 for haddock and chips 9although that almost rates as 'normal' nowadays. I chose two starters at £8.50 each, and it turned out to be a good decision. The 'Gambas al ajillo, cooked in white wine & marinated with chilli, garlic and parsley' were decent sized peeled prawns in a good sauce. The 'Feta mousse & watermelon served with pickled cucumber, beetroot crisps & basil oil' was a good combination, and rather inventive. My friend enjoyed his haddock and chips. The dining area is more that of a pub rather than a restarant, but none the worse for that.

Great breakfast and fantastic service

Really like this place, great setting, great food and lovely staff. Tend to go for lunch and can thoroughly recommend the battered fish sandwich. Delicious and basically a whole piece of fish divided between the sandwiches.

We had a wonderful stay at the White Star Tavern and Hotel - lots of Titanic history there as well. Highly recommend this Hotel!

Lovely wee quirky place, fab staff, great location, if a bit noisy of a Friday.

Pre booked table for Brunch. Warm welcome on arrival, order taken and able to adjust menu given egg intolerance, which was appreciated. The full English was tasty freshly cooked and well presented. Eggs Royale also top drawer. Coffee also very good, with request for extra hot latte also delivered. Overall great service and quality of food, great value for money. We will be back, probably the best brunch around.

Loved our stay, staff were extremely friendly, helpful and professional, could do enough for us and very welcoming. Our room was stunning and very comfortable, my husband stays here a lot for work and I totally get why, this was my first time with our 2 year old and we will definitely be back too, she also had a great stay. Breakfast was really good with loads on offer hot and cold options, children's menu and plenty of fruit too. Evening meals were stunning and couldn't fault the kitchen, everything was super tasty and service was spot on. Thanks for a lovely stay and we will be back again.

Great place to stop for a short stay in Southampton. It is excellent value for money. The White Star Tavern is a vibrant pub in the heart of the lively Oxford Street part of town which offers great restaurant options for the evening. The pub can get quite busy at peak times especially if it a home match for Southampton FC, but step through the guests door and you're met with a very well appointed small hotel section. The rooms are comfortable, well appointed and thoughtfully equipped with excellent attention to detail to ensure your stay is comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was excellent with a wide range of options including vegetarian and buffet as well as full English. Certainly a place we will come back to and use as a base when visiting people in this part of Southampton. Updated again following a second return trip. Staff are fantastic and again a lovely room setting the backdrop for an excellent short stay in Southampton.

Lovely and attentive staff. My little boy was given a little gift as soon as we arrived that kept him entertained. The soup and sandwich lunch deal is just perfect and great value. Dogs are welcome too. We will be back!

The room was lovely very clean, nice bed, lovey en suite, very good coffee. The staff our excellent very helpful nothing is too much for them. And the food is excellent would definitely stay here again.

As I entered my room I could hear a continuous flush of the toilet to then find out the push button for the flush was completely jammed. Unable to use the toilet I went back down to reception,thr young lad apologised and gave me a key to another room. As I entered thr room,I took one look at the bed and was horrified at the amount of hairs on it,so I went back in my old room and then used a spoon to try and pull out the the flush button.Thankfully I managed to release the button. I then had a knock on the door from reception and I explained I had fixed the toilet and that I didn't want to go into the new room with hairs all over the bed. The room I stayed in was lacking in cleanliness,I pulled off hairs on the bed,around the base of the toilet was disgusting,hairs on the floor and on walls.Areas of walls showing black mould in the bathroom. Clearly checks arnt been done.The cushions on the beds were stained,I doubt they have been washed. A lack of detail left me with a sleepless night,thankfully I had my sleeping bag in the car which I bought up to the room. Checks need to be made in the rooms,I'm so frustrated how management don't do this daily,it really does puzzle me how hotels can't get the basic cleaning standards done correctly. I gave it a 2 star but really I think I was too generous. I could have took so many more photos but I didn't want to look in any more detail as it would have left me more upset than I was already.

We had a couple of cocktails here which were excellent. A very nice tavern, good atmosphere.

Stayed for three nights and had dinner when we arrived. The food was excellent in the hotel for both the evening meal and their breakfast set up is fantastic. The room we stayed in was really lovely, comfortable with an excellent set up for teas and coffee. The thing that was most striking about our stay was just how friendly all the staff were. Everyone was polite and really helpful the whole time. Would definitely recommend here if you’re in Southampton for a few days.

Went for dinner last night. Turned away as too busy despite loads of empty tables. This has happened 3 times in the last couple of years. Not going to bother again. Completely useless and best avoided.

Wife and I had a rare evening with no children so I booked a table at The White Star and yet again the experience was faultless. Bridget the manageress and all her staff were amazing and we will be visiting again. The food was lovely and if you have room for the sticky toffee pudding you will I’ll not be disappointed. We also felt safe as covid rules were being followed.

Visited for Sunday lunch. We had the roast beef and roast pork. Both were excellent with a variety of veg and an enormous yorkshire. Would recommend.

Pasé un tiempo increíble con algunos de mis amigos más cercanos en el White Star. Salí para una comida de cumpleaños, comimos deliciosa comida, excelentes cervezas. Uno de mis amigos mencionó al personal que era mi cumpleaños, así que al final, salieron con un brownie y una vela. La mayor sorpresa que han hecho fue que su chef Alastair me cantara el feliz cumpleaños. Parecía ser un tipo muy carismático. Y tiene una gran voz. Para cualquiera que quiera hacer de su cumpleaños un evento especial, recomiendo el White Star, y definitivamente le pido al chef Alastair que le cante un feliz cumpleaños, parecía que realmente lo disfrutaba. 5 estrellas y definitivamente volveremos!

¡Encontramos esta pequeña joya después de intentar ir a Ikea! ! Y me alegro de haberlo hecho. Teníamos la hamburguesa de pollo rebozada con leche con mantequilla, la mejor hamburguesa de pollo que hemos probado, con mucho sabor y sabor. Luego volví a comer los brownies, los mejores que he probado, simplemente derretidos en mi boca. Me lo comí tan lentamente que no quería que terminara. Y no soy un gran amante del pudín. El servicio también fue excelente, acogedor y eficiente. Bien hecho, no puedo recomendar esto lo suficiente. Definitivamente regresaremos?

Decidimos comer aquí ya que todos los demás lugares estaban llenos los miércoles. ! Y debo admitir que quedamos impresionados. En primer lugar, la configuración de Covid fue de primera clase desde que ingresó al pub hasta que se fue. ¡Lo que fue realmente bueno de ver fue la atención a limpiar tanto la mesa como el asiento antes de sentarnos! ! Ahora la comida. . . Desde el principio nos dijeron que se habían quedado sin ciertas verduras, etc. . . Esto, aunque decepcionante, también fue refrescante porque elegimos nuestra comida en consecuencia. La señora tenía bistec y patatas fritas con ensalada, etc. y yo tenía el salmón ennegrecido con patatas trituradas y una ensalada de verano y también me dieron pan de ajo. . . Debo admitir que el salmón estaba perfectamente preparado y fue bien con la ensalada, etc. El bistec estaba preparado al gusto de mis damas y ambos disfrutamos mucho de la comida y las bebidas. Este lugar merece una visita ya que me sentí seguro de que se habían tomado todas las medidas para mantener el lugar limpio.

Tres de nosotros estábamos buscando un almuerzo rápido y nos encontramos con The White Star Tavern. Era un viernes alrededor de la 1. 30 pm y el pub no estaba demasiado ocupado. Explicamos que estábamos buscando un almuerzo rápido y la señora nos enseñó rápidamente a un área adecuada del bar y produjo los diferentes menús disponibles.Todos decidimos pedir el pescado, las patatas fritas y los guisantes que estaba recién preparado y llegó rápidamente y estaba delicioso con una masa crujiente y una porción encantadora de pescado y patatas fritas.Este es un pub realmente atmosférico y estoy seguro de que hay un zumbido real sobre el lugar en la noche.Recomiendo encarecidamente este gran pub y el personal de guardia fue muy amable y servicial, proporcionando un excelente nivel de servicio.

Fuimos allí para el asado del domingo. Este es uno de esos lugares donde cocinan con orgullo. El menú en sí parecía simple, pero puedes ver que realmente querían hacerlo mejor.La carne se cocinaba bien, el pudín de Yorkshire era una pieza de artesanía, el crujiente de cerdo era hermoso y crujiente y toda la zanahoria asada era otra cosa.Decora muy acogedor y relajado pero con carácter. We stayed here for one night 2 weeks ago. On checking my credit card statement I noticed we were charged £119.10 twice. I'd make the booking direct with the hotel and paid over the phone. I have been in contact with the hotel to rectify this. Unsure how this could happen and so glad I noticed it as the hotel didn't.

I visited with my family for a Sunday meal, having booked a table earlier in the day. We had a choice of tables indoors and plumped for a table in a corner. As far as service goes we were asked promptly what we would like to drink, after which the service dropped off.My brother had ordered a coke, having not been told that coke is not an option he was given a pepsi max, which he didn't want. Then when he asked to change the order what may have been an attempt at banter seemed much like being reprimanded for not ordering the drink he wanted in the first place. It took an exceptionally long time for the food to come, my wife and mother both enjoyed the majority of their meals. My steak was over cooked, the peppercorn sauce was sweet and not worth the money. I wasn't asked how the food was until they came to collect the plates. My mother wanted a dessert, which was again sorely disappointing.Many years ago this used to be a great place, but certainly doesn't deserve a revisit.

The food is varied and cooked fresh, good value for money however the lager is expensive, airport prices.

Great day out in Southampton topped off by a beer or 2 in this bar, nice staff good selection of beers and wines, sat outside in the glorious sun, highly recommend a few drinks here.

When having a peaceful small lunch outdoors, there's nothing like having a fish finger sandwich, along with some chips and a pint of draught cola, to feel the mood of a sunny lunchtime.

Visited after the last football match of the season and the place was busy with happy supporters and evening drinkers. Drinks were served exactly how we like and by a happy bar man.

Teníamos una habitación de gama media, que estaba bien presentada, con una cama cómoda, una ducha brillante y un desayuno muy bueno también. Hubo algo de ruido hasta la medianoche desde el pub al otro lado de la calle, pero era sábado por la noche. My partner and I love coming in here for a drink as we live locally. The bar staff are always attentive and polite, especially the Manager Bridget! There's a great selection of wines and draught beers. We will be back many more times I'm sure!

My partner and I had the lamb it was a delicious large portion! My mother had the chicken which was equally delicious. Cocktails were elaborate but not overly priced. It was quite and intimate there, lovely for a private, quiet dinner.

The roasts were lovely and generous too. We needed something quickly and the staff were very helpful in enabling us to relax while still leaving in under an hour. Comfy seats and a friendly team!

La última vez que visitamos fue justo después del cambio de propietario a Fullers y no fue una buena experiencia, pero pensamos que valía la pena volver a visitarla. Muy contentos de haberlo hecho, muy eficiente y acogedor personal, buena cerveza y muy buena comida. Sin duda volveremos.

great selection of beers and gins although a bit overpriced and snooty but you dont get the football riff raff inn there so it balances out. Good food although a bit overpriced.

Met with family for a Sunday lunch. Nice surrroundins and well laid out. Good menu; the Roasts we had were excellent. Well cooked with a good selection of veg, the roast potatoes were particularly good. The meat we had (beef and the pork belly} were great, really well cooked and again a good quantity. The wine list was good and we picked a fresh Sauvignon - very reasonably priced and a good drink. The service was friendly and efficient. All together a lovely lunch.

Visited for a quick weekday dinner, we have been in many times for drinks but had not yet eaten here. The food was very tasty and as always the White Star is a great place for a nice glass of wine. We will continue to come in for drinks and we will definitely add this to our list of local restaurants that we will return to for dinner.

Big fan of Fullers establishments. The White Star did not disappoint. Nice varied menu and excellent food and service.

Had a family dinner here (no kids). Food was decent, little bit pricey. Service was ok, and atmosphere was nice. Nothing particular special but nothing particular bad either. Only downside, they had run out of the roast beef at 330pm on a Sunday.

No soy un fan de grandes cadenas de hoteles. Aunque la Estrella Blanca está dentro del grupo Fullers, tiene la sensación de ser independiente.

As we were staying here, it was impossible to avoid the charming pub below! The gents tending bar in the evenings were incredibly helpful in every way (from helping access Wifi, to selecting the right cider). I'm very glad we stayed here. PS - if you're staying the night, hang around for breakfast in the morning... you won't be a bit sorry, and the ladies attending on you will make you feel right at home!

Visitado para el desayuno familiar. Lamentablemente no puedo recomendar. El lugar aparentemente era muy escaso y parecía caótico. Media hora para tomar bebidas (café tibio) y más de una hora para desayunar. De nuevo frío, huevos cocidos, panqueques cocidos. Sin embargo, el gerente dio un descuento del 50% en el pedido y se reconoció el servicio y la calidad deficiente, por lo tanto, una revisión de tres estrellas en lugar de una de una estrella.

We are a family of four and enjoyed a meal at the White Star, there is a kids menu with some variety, the adults menu had some nice light bites, service was good.

The overall service was pretty poor. Prosecco poured over the table as rushing to serve it. Came back about every 2 minutes to ask if we're ready to order but one if us didn't even have a menu. Hair in one if the starters- apologies but no deduction off the bill. Main course was really good. Took forever to try to order coffees and pay the bill not enough staff as they ended up serving behind the bar. Not as good as it used to be - such a shame.

In the center of Southampton nightlife. Great lodging and good food. The staff is friendly and helpful- they let us check in early!

Casual atmosphere, simple menu, price acceptable, no more or less than I 'd pay in the States for a similar meal.Walking distance from The Queen Mary 2. Which left us time to wander around the city of Southampton. Would dine there again when we do our next round trip on the Queen.

18 of us met at the White Star for a pre-booked dinner reservation where we selected our entrees in advance. Other than half of us sitting behind the long table which made getting in and out a bit challenging, it was great from being seated timely, receiving the foods we confirmed we ordered, and having great service during the meal. Almost everyone said they enjoyed their entree, and my husband said his fish and chips set the bar for all other F&C; meals for the next three weeks in England, on board our cruise, & in Scotland. My salmon was equally good. Separating checks took a while, but they worked and got it done. We enjoyed a small lounge area for drinks before dinner where we all gathered. The atmosphere of an "old pub" is nice; there is outside dining if desired; it is in a pub/bar section of the downtown area and was nice for walking.

I have eaten in White Star a few times. It used to be my fave place to eat but the food has gone a bit to 'posh' for me. The portions seem to get smaller and smaller. Very good tasty food but last time I was still hungry after dinner

We stayed overnight here and felt welcome from the first minute. The staff are brilliant and the rooms very nice and very comfortable. Food is well priced and delicious. Absolutely recommend a stay here when in Southampton.

Positive things were lovely clean room nicely decorated in the old historical marker eras part of Southampton . Staff were very friendly and helpful.

I came here for lunch with a cousin recently. It was a pleasant experience. I had the chicken Caesar salad which was fantastic and the staff were great that day, it was a pleasure speaking to them. I love this place and I've never had a bad experience here.

Good draught beers and cider that you don't find everywhere else, food that's locally sourced where possible and assembled with great care. I had fish and real fresh chips, homemade tartare sauce and delicious peas, for a very reasonable £12. The service is very friendly...

Reserved a table for a sunday family dinner. Had a double buggy (which we informed by the time we reserved the table). Very nice crew did listen to us and arranged a nice table with lots of space around. Waiters were very nice and helpful...

Large and well built corner location building. It is and feels like a cross between a hotel and a pub so the name Tavern feels appropriate. Several distinct open areas around a central bar. A mix of flag stone and solid oak flooring. Fire places...

Fantastic food. Brilliant service. Pleasant environment. Good value. We went here for lunch and we were not disappointed. Food was perfectly cooked and really delicious. Service was very good. Good selection of wines by the glass and bottle. Would definitely visit again.

We stayed here just for one night as we were going on a 3 day cruise, we booked 3 rooms and there was a party of 6 guests, each room was unique and very quaint, the bedding was luxurious, this is a listed building so alterations cannot be made with regards to a lift, but the owners did there best to accommodate us all, i cannot praise this hotel enough, shame we didn't get to try the food but they had a party of 30 in that evening and the place was very busy and loud so we ate elsewhere, but overall i would not hesitate to return, you will be pleasantly surprised of all the extra's within your room, even down to a free bottle of their local beer! such lovely touches, a very pleasant stay indeed, thank you from Mr&Mrs; Wright 7/12/2017 oceanic room

Fab white star tavern 5 stars. Stayed 1 night before boarding cruise ship in Southampton. Lovely large comfy bed. Bathroom with tub and separate walk in shower. Complimentary toiletries. Complimentary tea coffee milk water and beer. Excellent evening meal in the restaurant prices reasonable. Lovely breakfast fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee. Would definitely stay again.
