The Old Ship in Gosport

First at all, the guy from the bar told us to read the sign "Wait to be seated" but no one was there and we were waiting. We placed the order 2:12pm and 3:10 we asked how it will take? they said 5 to 10 more minutes. The food arrived 3:20pm, 1h 8m later The food is ok. It is a shame as the place has a beautiful views and very well located.

Phoned up before going to ask if the football would be shown they said yes so got a taxi there only for the football to be played on mute. Very disappointed.

Average pub with average food, stopped serving food at 2045 on a bank holiday Friday without telling us so couldn't get a pudding :(

The service was awful and the time it took to be served when the pub was EMPTY inside and outside was shocking! All 3 Staff that were working behind the bar were rude and lazy towards us. I wouldn't recommend anyone eating here I certainly won't come here with my family again.

Shocking customer service, meal was ok hot and as it should be but the pudding didn’t come out after 45 mins of waiting, so we ask for a refund, refund was given no apologies in fact no conversation at all. On observation the bar staff didn’t acknowledge the chefs bell, didn’t clear tables, didn’t ask if everything was ok with our meals there were no customers at bar during these times.

If I could give it a half a star I would! 6 chicken nuggets and 5 chick fries for £14.50!! Luke warm is being polite… shocking!

The food was genuinely very good and reasonably priced. Bar staff were polite and friendly. Great ambience. Music not too loud, lights not too bright. Amazing views.

When I lived near here as a catering engineer I always used to try time my visit to repair equipment for first thing in the morning then I could have breakfast while doing the paperwork. I've also been there on a few summer evenings for meals the view in the evening is beautiful but it can look a bit bleak in the winter. The food is always top notch though.

Absolutely lovely meal had the pork tomahawk which was really tasty was cooked perfectly and was very quickly served have to say atmosphere and friendliness of staff was amazing really great experience and really enjoyed ourselves highly recommend you try the pork tomahawk and thank you for a great experience

Absolutely awful went on Saturday with my partner and little boy asked for a table but said only tables outside which was fine even though there was tables empty inside but we were happy to sit outside anyway so got table not once did any staff tell us there was a wait for food even when asking about a table no one so ordered food and drinks drinks did take a while to come but again no one said anything about food times hence they knew we ordered food anyway it took a hour and a half for one starter to come out which consisted of four chicken wings and was missing the blue cheese sauce aswell let’s just say we got a refund for the mains as my little boy was starving I will say we did ask in the end about times and they said up to a hour well like I said a hour and half for a starter is not up to a hour the staff were also very rude and seemed to have a attitude other than the young girl who was running around doing everything it seemed but I went to get some tissues as got told there was some by the cutlery but in the door and that’s where you get them and there was none the boxes were empty well I went in and asked to get told there over there I took a pile as I was going to put some in the box for them and other customers to get told of by the man by the bar saying I didn’t need that many and I explained I was putting them in the box where we got told they would be for other people I was not taking them all evidently I only needed a couple but then as I was walking away I heard him say very loudly that’s just greed which is terrible customer service and you should never talk to anyone like that which I will say made me feel very upset and awful after that and I did not feel comfortable there at all so I will say I won’t be returning and definitely won’t be recommending to anyone and it is a shame as I have been to many sizzling pubs chains and never ever been treated like this before

1hour 30 to get our meals not really acceptable even though I booked and even with the long wait time they kept taking more customers in, I complained but no response from manager

Upon arrival was asked to sit outside which is fair enough if they’re busy inside. Ordered food at the table and after a 45 minute wait for some heated up meals was told that food is at least an hour wait. Seems like something we should have been told beforehand, but obviously not. 1 hour 10 minutes later the starter chicken wings came out without the blue cheese dip. Told the cutlery and napkins were inside only to be told “that’s just greedy” for taking a few napkins. Service is shocking to say the least, fair enough if you’re busy but a bit of clarity wouldn’t go a miss. Still waiting on the mains as I’m writing this, won’t hold my breath that they’re complete either. Moody staff, the two brothers in Southampton was a much, MUCH better sizzling pub chain experience. Would NOT come back here again.

Don't offer kids meals for £1 then charge loads more and say it was customers fault. Can't fault the food, delicious, atmosphere lovely but can't afford to eat here again

Just a cuppa outside in the sunshine but the interior and bathroom were very stylish. Beautiful location too with plenty of parking. Lovely pub.

Visited Saturday 22nd on new menu week, wanted a burger, but they had none. Decided on surf and turf very bland thrown on a plate food, steak was meant to be medium rare but was overcooked. Left half of it and decided to order chicken fries as was still hungry, daylight robbery at £6.50 for dry tasteless bits of chicken. Very disappointing overall, better quality at inn by the sea or cocked hat. Lastly, foxes eating off plates left outside at least they enjoyed their meal

quick service and food was good 1 meal was incorrect but sorted straight away i had the gyros which was lovely but i will say think that half the chicken ran away advertised with skin on fries but was served with chips same as my brothers meal but to be honest they was lovely so no complaint desert was great too

Cheaper end of the market, a bit dated. Food of good quality at the pricepoint. Service good. Would recommend if you want to eat on a budget with a large group.

As we haven't used the Old Ship in Lee-on-Solent for quite some time, we thought we would give it a try again as we had what is weirdly called a Half Birthday voucher. My wife had Scampi, which she was quite happy with, and I had the so called Greek burger, which to me was very poor in my opinion, It was advertised as having cheese, skin on fries, Jalapeno peppers, and a toasted bun which it didn't. Nobody came to ask us if the food was ok, which was wise. On the plus side, the bar staff were good as was the service. I didn't complain as I suppose I should have done, so that's down to me. Maybe we will try again sometime as maybe we caught them on a bad day, as most reviews to be fair are very good.

A family friendly and welcoming pub, serving great food and drinks in a pleasant setting. Sitting not far from the beach this pub is in a great location and it's decor matches it surroundings well. The food choices are wide ranging and very tasty with a good selection of drinks both soft and alcoholic to go with them. The staff are polite, helpful and always willing to look after your every need. We are frequent visitors to this pub and highly recommend it to all our family and friends.

Just had big breakfast x 2. Served on cold plates. Mushrooms looked and tasted raw. Eggs were hard inside and beans that were served in a small jug were cold. Was not asked if we wanted white or brown bread. Will not be eating here again

Absolutely terrible, all the requests I asked for(mainly a bench seat opposite the bar as my wife suffers very poor mobility issues) because she can get in and out from the table easier than if stuck in the middle of the room on a tiny table, when I asked the staff member why my request for the bench seat was ignored he said they don't reserve seats, yet I counted 5 tables with the signs reserved on it, but he totally ignored my request, then saying I could eat in the bar area at a table opposite two slobbering dogs. Now if I wanted to eat my lunch sat next to two slobbering dogs licking their private parts, I'd book a table in the local kennels, and this doesn't even mention the residential black cat who curls up next to you in the restaurant, surely health and safety would be an issue, so I duly refused to be treated like this and departed the Old Ship and went round the corner to the Inn by the Sea where Tracy the manageress couldn't be more accommodating in feeding us makeing our visit enjoyable.

I visited the pub The Old Ship today. It was cold outside, but the sun was shining, creating a pleasant atmosphere. When I entered the pub, I was pleasantly surprised and delighted by the warm and friendly ambiance. At the time I visited (around 11:15 AM), there were no other customers, which allowed me to relax and enjoy a delicious coffee. I took several photos that I gladly share with you; everything was tidy and ready to welcome customers. After finishing my coffee, I am already eagerly anticipating when I will return to have dinner in the near future. I highly recommend this place for its peaceful atmosphere and wonderful view. Don't forget to register for parking if you come by car!

Staff were friendly and helpful. A great place for dog lovers as they have their own menu for dogs and offer you a water bowl for them as well.

Went for set meal Christmas menu. The waitress firstly brought over someone else's starters. The turkey was awful sliced as though it should be in a sandwich. When I went to pay it took several staff to find the deposit that had been paid, such a shame as a great location.

Honestly - I normally love the old ship for its normal everyday menu you can’t really go wrong. I was only in there last week with my daughter having the 2 meals for for £13.50 which was lovely. Unfortunately like many other “ pub” Christmas menu it’s fall very short of the mark. I wasn’t expect Michelin meals but I was expecting hot cooked well food. We thought we’d give it a go for his year but wish we hadn’t . Myself and my sister opted for the vegetarian option which was spinach & falafel burger with vegan ribs bbq sauce & a dairy free cheese. Unfortunately ever part of the burger was drenched in bbq sauce so it was really sloppy and overpowering . The menu said skin on fries which I would have loved and there was a vegan option which was little squares of roast potato’s. So I started the roasties which were average with a lot of them very hard and undercooked . I tried to eat the burger but it was so sloppy and over sauced I had to stop. The vegan ribs were tough and chewy. I’m not a vegan and didn’t ask for the vegan option. When they came over I asked why it wasn’t chips and he said it was to do with something in the oil that wasn’t vegan They offered to bring sone fries over but I was already disappointed and everyone else had stopped eating anyway. My meal looked untouched. I thought as a token of goodwill maybe they would take my meal off but they never end when we complained whilst paying they just said they had just come on shift and knew nothing. Such a shame as it was my mum and sisters annual Christmas get together. None of us enjoyed our meals but they really weren’t bothered.

I treated my and three daughters to Christmas menu . The two Christmas dinners were poor frozen veg overcooked, carrots peas and 4 sprouts mixed together , freezer “roast” potatoes some undercooked and turkey roll slices.will let my daughter review the two different meals . Very disappointing . I was gutted that all meals were poor .

Nice staff and atmosphere, but the food is not great. It's OK and we have eaten there a couple of times because the order at table is so convenient, but it's probably the worst of all the other pubs in Lee.

Disappointed in our visit here. Very limited vegan options, staff grumpy, our table of 6 had 4 meals delivered and were halfway through before the others arrived, it we all ordered together. Such a shame.

Lovely place, very welcoming and nice atmosphere. Food was timely, hot and delicious. Bit of confusion from staff when paying the bill as we were a large party paying individually but was rectified quite quickly.

Love this place and love the food but made the mistake of ordering the curry feast . The dip and the pot it came in looks to be straight out of asda . The nan bread was identical to the ones you get in Asda. The curry itself was identical in look and taste to microwave currys . Same for rice . But the poppadoms were 100% fresh and really nice . I won't be ordering again and will stick to burgers or sizzling dishes as these are amazing

We only went in for a morning drink and to see the sea views ,however we got told we couldn't sit in the front area and had to sit in the rear area with only the car park to look out on ... The front door needs some attention either a soft close bracket fitted or a bit of spong to stop the almighty bang each time it closes

Down on holiday so friends took us to this venue there was five in our party and one had food allergies catered for him very well for the mains but unfortunately nothing for pudding the other four of us had a lovely meal and desserts lovely pub with a great view and atmosphere would visit when down here again 👍😀

This is the first time that we’ve been here for many years and it looks much nicer following the refurbishment. The food was very good and good value for money and the drink prices are also reasonable.
