We had a lovely family Sunday lunch at the sailmakers. Food very tasty with a good variety of meat and vegetables. Also good vegetarian options. Tasty and filling. Staff very friendly and helpful. The online booking was easy to use . Georgia served our carvery and was very friendly and helpful. Waiting and bar staff also friendly and helpful. I highly recommend eating at the Sailmakers in Gosport

Ordered a sirloin steak, but it was just all fat so I sent it back, they returned with another very fatty steak, after removing all the fat i was left with a small piece of meat. I also ordered meduim well and it was completely over done, to the point of being inedible. I was then told by the staff that sirloin is meant to be a fatty steak.... I corrected them told them its actually meant to be a leaner cut and they did offer me a refund. Dosent say much when the cook's and servers don't even know how certain cuts of meat should be. Another issue was my child's meal didn't come with gravy (which it was meant to) so I asked the server to please get me some, he told me it doesn't come with gravy. The hostess had to remind the server that it does state on the menu it comes with gravy. It seemed like he couldnt be bothered to help. Disappointed, as it was my first time in there since their refurb, has put me off returning now.

After hearing that this pub had an refurbishment which included a new sports bar had to visit. Food was as good as ever but now we could watch the footie & have a game of darts what a result. The staff were great & seem to enjoy the improvements as much as us. Special mention to Rich the manager very knowledge & welcoming on the sports front & olga I think her name was. Throughly enjoyed the whole experience thanks See you again Steve

Clean, professional but relaxed atmosphere. Gluten free menu ready on table when we arrived. Prompt drinks and food delivery. Friendly staff. Very tasty food. Will definitely be back.

Carvery overpriced and awful quality. Beef wasn’t even edible and the veg was dry and old.

Awful. Absolutely awful. Probably the worst meal we've ever had. Turn up, try to order via the app for it to come out of my bank but nothing to show up on their system. Then had to reorder at the bar. Brought drinks back to the table (orange juice and lemonade, but unfortunately only zero sugar lemonade) for it to taste (and look) like carbonated water. Another 10 minutes to go back and change them at the bar. Still didn't taste great after. Saw lots of people waiting for their food for a long time. Waited for the kids meal to turn up before getting our carvery. Burnt chicken dippers arrived on a piping hot plate, so had to move the whole meal to a napkin for our child to eat it. Then we got our carvery. Waited 5 minutes for someone to come out from the kitchen and serve us, to be told that the pigs in blankets we ordered weren't ready and they'd be a couple of minutes (spoiler alert - they didn't arrive for another 10-15 minutes). The meat was awful. Looked awful and tasted awful. Potatoes were rock solid (and trying to scoop them up with a small spoon rather than some tongs was just bizarre). Yorkshire puddings were inedible and had definitely been left around a while or reheated. Was a very poor selection of veg to choose from, and what was there looked unappetising (especially the carrots). Gravy was like water. We literally left the majority of what was on our plates as it was that bad. Last straw was biting into one of the pigs in blankets and having to spit it out into a napkin because it tasted horrendous. Service also wasn't great. Even heard one server telling a customer that she should switch her phone off whilst in The Sailmaker because she "might enjoy the time better". We were flabbergasted that they would say this. They seemed to quickly leave. We thought we'd give the place another try because it had been recently refurbished, but it's worse than it was before (and it wasn't great before). Wasted £40 on a meal we didn't eat, still waiting for the other £40 to go back into my account that didn't go through on their system. Will never return. Ever.

Brilliant atmosphere, clean and super friendly staff! Didn’t eat a meal, but had chips and they were 10/10!!! Would be back!

Food has gone down hill fast. Meat over cooked, peas like bullets. Very long wait between the 3 courses. And to top it off quiz in dining area.

So surprised with the way the restaurant has been split up into two - it definitely works as my family and I didn't want to watch the sports but were pleasantly impressed with how little you could hear from the sports area, food was amazing as always - we opted for the sharing platters and starter sharers and everyone left with full bellies, looking forward to seeing you guys again soon

Staff friendly, polite and helpful. I had issues with the QR code pay but the staff were able to help. I took my mum and she enjoyed her lunch deal fish and chips. The portion size for her at 83 was just right. Certainly recommend The Sailmaker to family and friends.

Excellent meal at The Sailmaker this evening food was piping hot when it arrived. And tasty. My husband and I love The Sailmaker, it is local for us and tonight we took advantage of the 30% off mains in June. Hannah often serves us, she is friendly and welcoming.

Always had bad experiences here but came back as it was newly refurbished and thought it may be better....WRONG!!!!! Girl behind the bar served us with our drinks (didn't catch her name) but there was no "please" or "thank you" Ordered our food (2x chicken platter) which arrived really quickly but it was missing some elements that were specified on the menu. The chicken was really dry & crunchy, so much so that we couldn't eat it ( the corn was ok tho!) When the waitress came round to collect our plates, we voiced our concerns. She was really great. Her name was Ola and turned out to be the deputy manager (not a waitress!) She apologised profusely & gave us an immediate refund plus a drink. Not sure we will be returning any time soon though.

Booked a table for 6.30 for 5 people online only to be told we couldn’t be accommodated - we had to squeeze into a table for 4 or go outside (it was very cold). Good took 50 minutes to arrive, the steak was asked to be cooked well done and still came out very pink (which was refunded), the carvery veg was very dry as it had been left out uncovered, the beef was very fatty and inedible

First time in here since the refurb. Ordered from main menu as carvery did look like it had been standing there for a while however what we ordered was excellent quality and piping hot. Staff were all friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed this visit and will be back.

The newly renovated establishment looks beautifully decorated with modern decor throughout. Received kimd and friendly service by kelsey. The only issue was the quality of the food, it was well below par, I ordered mixed grill with cheesey chips and the meat was of poor standard and overcooked. Even the cheesey chips were overdone. Such a shame for an eatery that wants to do well.

I went with the carvery, which was wonderful.Great fresh and delicious. I ordered online which went smoothly at first but after a wait, I had to go to the bar to get the drink I ordered. Otherwise, great meal.

Busy pub but the staff were fantastic and extremely helpful, clearly very busy but gave each customer the time they needed. Food was delivered timely given how busy the pub was. Portion size not overly generous but just big enough. Food was well prepared and was tasty. The staff are the highlight, well done to them.

Our third and final visit to The Sailmaker I'm afraid! Booked a table for 6.15pm as was craving a carvery. When we arrived we were checked in. Ordered and paid for our drinks at the bar. Were then informed carvery was not available as they had no meat! They should have told us that before we got our drinks! We weren't happy so booked into Inn by the Sea for a carvery.

A very good mael well plated fantastic service with very polite staff and all that for a very cheap price thank you will definitely be back again.

The refurb worked wonders we usually visit for a drink on a Tuesday evening and having a quiet bit of the pub we can enjoy while the seperate drinking area is busy is a good idea. A very well thought out refurb and the pub looks great

Venue newly refurbished, now really nice. Food good, but what made it for me was the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. Had the carvery and it was lovely - huge yorkies!! Lots of good gravy and sauces.

Long wait, wrong order, cold food - won't be going again!! Spoiled my birthday celebrations!

The building has been tastefully decorated and I like the fact the front part of the pub has been converted into a sports bar. The service was very good, although of course this may be due to the fact that there were lots of staff working yesterday for your training day. The food was excellent, as normal, we had 3 starters which arrived within a reasonable time from ordering. Did not use your app to order but did as normal and went to bar. Once cleared, our main meals were served again within a reasonable time and were excellent and hot. Again the table was cleared quickly after we had all finished our meals. Throughout the staff were attentive ensuring that everything was good with our food and that we were enjoying the food, but not intrusive. We left as you had started to clean the restaurant area ready for evening service feeling that we had enjoyed the pub and our food experience

Did not like where we we seated it was very hot & uncomfortable ,as it was near the carvery, the wait of 40 minutes for our food to come was unexceptionable, I understand that it was very busy, eventually when the food came out it was very nice , but being uncomfortable and the long wait we could not enjoy our meal, just wanted to hurry up and get out ,I have used the sailmaker many times and never has it been that bad, even when it was very busy there was no meet and greet when we arrived which there always has been in other times, we had to wait till the bar was clear to speak to a member of staff to let them know we had arrived to be shown to our table, im sorry to say in all the times we have come to the sailmaker for meal this was not a very good experience, and this is the first time I have ever had to write such a long comment.

Newly reopened with some new staff and a new layout. Staff coped extremely well and were friendly a cheerful throughout. Food was good tasting and good value.

We attended the soft reopening after it's refurbishment and was very impressed with the new look and feel of the sailmaker, the team were very attentive and looked proud to be working there and the food was to a very good standard as well

Service as always was super quick and welcoming. Had the carvery turkey and beef both lovely and tender. Yorkshire pudding nice and big as always. Plenty of fresh cooked vegetables to choose from, my only comments are -roast potatoes could be a little bit more on the crispy side, the leek and red onion needs more seasoning and the cauliflower cheese wasn't any where cheesy enough and needs more seasoning, but other than that I still cleared my plate 😋 😊

I am very impressed with a lady called Molly (I think) who double checked my cousins dinner who is gluten intolerant. She stopped my cousin eating the dinner as it hasn't looked right and double checked the ingredients. Real gem.

Our family lost a loving member of our family and had the wake at the sailmaker cannot fault the staff and would like a special mention for Sophie who did the buffet everyone said how great it was brilliant and my husband’s family can be picky but only good words came from then so yet again thank you Sophie for the buffet and the rest of the staff

I was going to have a carvery until I went over to check it out prior to ordering. Jesus Christ, the meat looked like u could knock a building down with the rock hard dry rubbish that was left. Service was slow, they were short staffed, portions were very small and prices were way too high for the type of pub and quality of food. Definitely will not be going back again.

Me and my family always choose the sailmaker as our restaurant when the family gets together so 21/02/25 was no different, we opted into trying the new menu items and the children fully enjoyed the new Paddington inspired menu especially the marmalade chicken wings. It was a rather busy visit with a private function being catered for as well however I found that the staff managed themselves very well and didn't make us regular folk feel less important as they tended to all of our needs.

I came in on the 21/02/25 by myself this time for a quick bite to eat at lunchtime, I decided to try one of the new menu items (beef chilli) this was a very lovely meal and I even had room for dessert so had a apple crumble and ice cream with extra toffee sauce. I will always be a loyal customer to this restaurant as they have never failed us and always provided a great experience and wonderful food.

Amazing carvery, good choice of meats and vegetables and was pleasantly surprised to see that kids meals are £1 during half term which saved me some money. Kids meals were also decent portion sizes 😊 we'll definitely be back soon.

Gone downhill since last visit around 6 months ago. Made a booking a couple of days before coming here, with family. Got for the time stated and had to wait for about 5 minutes before being greeted. Then when they took the name, the table wasn't ready, so had to clean it and then sit us. Had to wait around 50 minutes for food to arrive with no updates from staff. But overheard them update a couple of new customers about the wait. Felt like we were put in a corner and ignored. Will be a while before we consider coming back.

Lovely meal, friendly and efficient staff, turned a family meal into a memorable experience for which we were all grateful.

The people who work there are helpful and polite and we enjoy the meals. Keep up the good work.

The sailmaker is a very clean and friendly environment. The staff are extremely helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The food is always piping hot, very tasty and worth the money.

Ok decor and furnishings. Nice touches with local images. Average food - not bad but not great (carvery). All the meats looked tired and small and dry, but it was late for a Sunday carvery (6:30). Service though plumbed the depths of really poor. No explanation of ordering process, no real interaction with staff. Main issue though is why do waiting staff think it’s acceptable to bring a single cup of tea to a table that’s ordered desserts and coffee and walk away without attempting to remove a single dirty, obviously finished with dinner plate(s)? Then bring a single cup of coffee (without ordered milk) and struggle to find space for it on the table and still attempt to leave without removing a single dirty plate. What part don’t they understand? Wouldn’t rush to revisit I’m afraid.

Food from carvery was dry and shrivelled up. 1 dessert wasn't available so had nothing, other dessert was so tiny and left half of it as not good.

A friendly welcome and tables set up for our large group of 12-14 people. Staff welcoming and helpful. Food was great. Overall really good value for money

I had a wonderful experience at The Sailmaker ! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, but what really stood out was the food and service. Ella, the chef, did an amazing job—everything was cooked to perfection, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. You can really tell she takes pride in her work! The service was just as impressive. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. From start to finish, it was a fantastic dining experience. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Very good experience. 4 of us dropped in for lunch after being at the explosion museum (3 generations) there was something for all of us. The portions were a reasonable size and price. the food was served quickly and was well cooked. It was particularly good to see that children's portions came in 3 sizes, a great step forward as most 3year olds don't eat as much as an average 11year old so grading the size of the meal is great.

Overall, it was a good experience. 4 star just because of a few things Got the drinks but not the kids' drinks. So when you have a 3 and a 4 years kid . Staring on you because they don't have they own one's is a little bit annoying. Went on bar all sorted. But the main problem was to pay for a large £15+carvery and to get a ver, very thin slice of ham/beef and smaller honestly 2/2 inches because it was the end of it. And 2 thin slices of turke.. was so thin that the meat broke apar, not morethann 100gr of meataltogetherr. Yea, you can have as much veg you like . But this is not the point when you want a roast dinner. Most probabl, the GP +stock on this dish is a nice one for Kitchen Manager. there weres no sauces, just gravy. I've asked for some . Manged to get some in 10 min after I started eating. Again, this place has potential could get 5 easily with just a little bit of work. Nice location. Decent prices.

The food was lovely, the staff on shift were friendly and helpful. We have been here many times and I have only had one negative experience and that was due to one of the managers (they were not on shift this time).

Staff always Freindly and with good guidance Always Happy and can be approached Food from Carvery to Main Menu VG Mother in law always has small plate from the Carvery and Yet clears the plate without any problem Wheel Chair Access makes it easy and at the age of 99 Hopefully by May next year at the age of 100 Peggy will still clear the plate Thank You

One of, if not the first to try the new ultimate ribs and chicken platter! Stunning! Hot and fresh, ribs just melted off the bone. Chicken wings and SF fillet just as good. Have to be honest I didn’t clear my plate but that’s good news for hungry carnivores out there. All served with a welcoming smile and friendly conversation by the lovely Olaa and Jess. Just leaves me to wash it down now with some top notch Inch’s cider. Will come again 👍
