Jolly Roger in Gosport

Overpriced food. Not a great choice of drinks. Definitely not "jolly". Very disappointed.

Once again outstanding food and fabulous customer service by Charlie and Amelie!! Cannot fault at all!! Busy but they handled it well, could’ve helped them both out by an extra pair of hands even if it was just running food or manning restaurant whilst they focused on the bar.

Great venue, we had a large group booking and they gave us great service.

Went for a meal on my wife's birthday. Food and service were excellent. Will definitely go again and recommend to friends.

We tried pornstar martini which was 2 for £12 the cocktails were quite weak I watched barman while he was making the cocktails he was poring down 50 cl vodka and a tiny a bit of passoa for 2 cocktails, you must pour 50 cl vodka for each cocktail the way you do is not fair. Won’t come again.

A lovely establishment right by the sea. Delicious food, great service and a nice location. We enjoyed our meal immensely.

This was the first time that I dined in, The Jolly Roger, we ordered fish & chips & garden peas. Our meal was served very quickly, the fish was very nice but the chips were not that good in our opinion. The glass of Rosa wine tasted very cheap There was a magnificent view of Portsmouth harbour .

Such a lovely place in a beautiful spot. Staff were friendly and attentive. I wasn't a fan of the roast, there was not much seasoning and there was too much gravy. I'd go back in the future and try something else though.

Great midday lunch for 4, good choice of food with drinks and deserts to follow. All presented by the two Sisters 😂 One does a strip for £2 but that is money for the charity raffle. Great banter and fun all round, Daughter and Grandson thoroughly enjoyed their meals and choices that were available. BZ guys.

Amazing food sooooooo tasty had pork belly roast and mac n cheese and chicken strips staff so friendly and welcoming definitely coming back to taste the burgers x

Wow what an amazing roast we had , friendly staff , pet friendly , and the Easter ice creams went down a treat , will defantley come back again.

A quiet Wednesday lunch. Convenient parking and a short walk. Nice meal deal and menu. Good Friday meal was excellent for four, plus desert. Modest price and well presented.

Amelia, our waitress was extremely personable, helpful and polite - a definite asset to the pub. Rob, the chef, produced pleasant enough pies.

I have been here previously and had a better experience, but it wasn't as busy the last few times. The food was still excellent, but the room felt crowded.

Been here many times & has always been good, however today there was one young lady doing everything, rushed off her feet so service was slower than usual. The young lady however was uncimplaining and excellent at her job.

We were told no walk in's when we enquired. A family of 5 walked in and were given a table. When we queried we were told they had booked, but we heard them say if they couldn't get a table they were going home..so we were lied too

Had a wonderful improv date night at the Jolly Roger. Was a lovely, hearty experience. Lovely pub grub and a very friendly, charismatic server. Thank you Charlie for being so attentive and we look forward to coming back soon.

Lovely, welcoming pub with lovely staff and scrummy food. The best calamari we’ve ever had and just a great, cosy atmosphere. Charlie was our waiter and his was helpful, friendly and went above and beyond for us. Definitely recommend

i bought a meal on the 4th march 2025 fish and chips. I got the most measly piece of cod hardly any fish and a few chips. this was most unsatisfactory im afraid . im wondering if it was meant to be bigger as honestly it wasnt wortth the price . it was very poor value. i thought the Jolly Roger was supposed to be good, i was very disappointed and the service seemed to be very slow. I think something perhaps went wrong on this occasion. Also, there were few people in the pub as well so i dont know what happened. I perhaps should have cancelled it but wasnt aware i c ould have done

i bought a lunch fish and chipswhich was a very thin scraggy portion and it cost £10.95 This was most unsatisfactory and i had just a few chips. This is terrible and very poor value. I was told i should have cancelled but didnt know i could as they brought the meal to me. ive nevef been in this situation before Im sure it was an unusually small peice of fish and chips and was meant to have been larger I am resentful of this as i think i was undercut. ive had lunch before at another place and got a decent portion. Also, it took them half an hour almost to bring the meal to me. i cant call it a meal as it was so bad

Lovely pub lunch enjoyed by the family. Welcoming,friendly, good service and food. Great views over the water to Portsdown Hill, Portchester. Will come again without a doubt, overall a good experience had.

I had a lovely lunch at the Jolly Roger today with my mum. The food was delicious and great value, staff were really friendly, and the pub had great ambiance and beautiful views across the water. We will definitely come again.

I've eaten here a few times and every time I've had a 5 star experience! The landlady's pru and melissa and young man charlie are very welcoming people very lighthearted and fun! Food was just AMAZING today I had lamb fillet with creamy potatoes OMG it was to die for all cooked by Rob the chef. Would like to thankyou so much for great food and fabulous service. Would highly recommend 👌 and can't wait for my next visit 😊

Was very disappointed with the evening. Food took an hour to come out, chicken was almost inedible as it was so dry and we had to ask at the bar to take our drinks order.

We had an amazing lunch today at Jolly Roger. The gammon was was heaven and my partner loved his streak sandwich. Amazing views, with amazing food. Charlie looked us after us today and couldn’t have been more accommodating and friendly. Will definitely be visiting again soon! Thank you x

Came in late Sunday for a roast. We had the trio roast with extra pigs in blankets. The meal was huge and absolutely delish. The beef pork and chicken were all really tender. Yorkshire pudding was massive. Veg included creamed leeks, peas, cabbage, carrots, parsnips, and cauliflower cheese. Staff were great and wrapped our leftovers to take home. Will definitely be back. Wow…..looking for a good local roast dinner, we were not disappointed, food was amazing and couldn’t believe the array of beers and lagers on tap. Homely feel with good attentive staff. Also great music..we will be back.

Only had a quick drink. The place is run down and filthy is too clean a word to describe the place. It's a shame because the location with the outlook over Portsmouth Harbour is very special.

Christmas evening meal with old friends, lovely!

Our team had a Christmas lunch booked in yesterday. Food was fantastic, very generous portions, vegetarian options were spot on. Staff were fabulous, helpful and very cheerful. Amazing effort from the staff 👏 thank you from everyone at capita planning

We went there for lunch as a threesome of friends We booked for the two course festive menu. The choices were excellent and it was hard to choose. We each chose differently and the meals were all lovely. They included a traditional Turkey roast, a mushroom pie and a venison pie, all with seasonal vegetables. Dessert was also varied. There was a chocolate delice that came with popcorn, a sticky toffee pudding and I had a clementine baked Alaska. This was an ice cream dessert and the Meringue was hard and crunchy unlike a true baked Alaska. But never the less very tasty with the zesty clementine. The service was lovely and prompt. The view from our table across the inlet to Portsmouth was a huge bonus. All I. All a very lovely lunch

We walked in as a table of 8 with no booking, we were given a table and told there may be a wait on food. We sat with drinks and Food come after a short wait and everything was perfect I had a steak it was 10/10. Great food Great staff great pub

Midweek lunch. Very quiet. Opted for 'special ' of main meal & a drink.

2nd time choosing the Jolly Roger as impressed with our first visit. The 3 course menu offered value for money with 20% off a bottle of wine. The starters were very good. Salads fresh and well presented. The mains were also very generous, hot and well presented. The chips were really good. The owner has gone to a lot of trouble with the Halloween decorations providing an interesting atmosphere. We all considered the menu was quite creative with little twists which added to the quality of the food. All 4 of us were commenting on the generous portions and how much we were enjoying our meals. Unfortunately no room for a desert. Wine was also good. Well done to Chef and staff.

My wife and I had a lovely mid-week lunch with a friend at the Jolly Roger. It was the first time that we had been there and we found it very welcoming. Our server, Leigh, was lovely. The menu is excellent and everything that we ordered was delicious. Also really good value. We will be back! Many thanks

We have very recently visited the Jolly Roger for a Sunday Roast, and I must say it was the best roast we have had in many years. The meats including the beef and the pork belly were absolutely delicious. For deserts we had the Cherry Sundae, the Cookie Dough and the Sticky Toffee pudding, which were all first class. Praise too too all the staff who looked after us so well. Please try the Jolly Roger, I think you will be glad you did.

Very pleasant staff. Whoever is managing this pub is doing a brilliant job. Look forward to having our Christmas dinner there :)

We went for a family Sunday lunch, table of 8 including 2 under 5s. The service was timely, friendly and helpful. The children were occupied by the colouring in supplied by the pub. The food was tasty and a great version of what it is. Be warned, the portion sizes are big, but you'll still want to leave room for dessert. Thanks for a lovely lunch, we will be back next time we visit.

Loved everything about our visit. Best roast I've had in a pub for a very long time, gorgeous plentiful food. Excellent service - had an adult with autism in the party, and they were very understanding. Great atmosphere. Will be back!

Music night, so very busy. The food was OK , I had pie mash and peas meat was tender but found the pastry quite hard.

Last time I was here was 40 years ago. Took my mother out for lunch and it was great. Tasty fresh food, excellent service and good prices. Was really impressed, Would definitely come back again to eat next time I am in Gosport.

Had a great time here one evening with some friends. Staff were excellent and the pulled lamb shepherd's pie was lovely. A friend who had medium rare rump steak said it very tender and cooked just right. We will return again.

6 of us came yesterday for lunch for my Dads birthday. We located a table and sat in the restaurant area so we could enjoy the table service and the view. All our food arrived together and was hot and delicious. Pru, Mel and Charlie went above and beyond to make my Dad feel special during our visit. We have been many times before and all the staff are always warm, friendly and professional. And the premises, always clean and tidy. We will definitely be returning

Lovely food, ate here last night with family I had the 2 deal set menu, good value for money, crispy halloumi strips and the chicken burger, all food came nice and hot, service was also brilliant from Jazz and Charlie.

What a lovely venue, really good food, fabulous service with a lovely atmosphere and views. Will definitely come again. The best eating venue we have found since moving to Gosport. Highly recommend.

Hired the dining room area for my daughters exam results celebrations. Charlie went above and beyond from the moment we booked. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was next level phenomenal and all our guests loved it. When some guests arrived later Charlie and his team were even happy to reheat some of the warm food items for them. One of the best venues for an occasion we have ever booked.

My favourite pub in Gosport with real character. Lovely bar. Good selection of drinks. Staff is very friendly. Even they asked me do I need a lift to the ferry. Definitely be back to try your food.

Been working in hospitality for 20 years as chef/waiter. You have a beautiful location but service was not to match,ordered bottle of wine.No waiter opening it or offering a taste,no banter/chit chat/no food check back just didn’t feel welcome. It wasn’t busy for diners,if it was would be understandable. Food is ok but make customers few happy and special . When we first arrived we thought how are so many tables empty on such location,this answered our question. Such a shame

We had the chicken schnitzel and it was good the service was good it was just a shame at the end the lad behind the bar didn't know what an Irish coffee was !

Only stopped for a livener while cycling past. Very pleasant sat outside in the sunshine with a beer, watching the world drift by. Noted that they are putting on live music and will be hosting a charity raft race soon. (apologies I didn't note the date)

Watched the England v Slovakia quarter final in this pub and it was brilliant. They even had a band on after the game so we were all up dancing around and celebrating. Food was great and reasonably priced too. Lovely view out of the big window in the room we were in. Would highly recommend

Lovely clean seating area. The meals once ordered were all well presented and hot. 6 different meals ordered and each and every one of them was tasty and very filling for our lunch time get together. Have only been here for drinks but will have food here at some point. It's nice sitting outside when it's sunny. Staff could do with smiling a bit more though!

What a wonderful breathe of fresh air, I was in the area after embarking a ferry from Portsmouth and happened to stumble upon this gem of an establishment with breathtaking views of Portsmouth Harbour. The staff were very friendly, courteous, and attentive. The food I can say is very well presented and tasted amazing. Also, a large selection of wines, beers, and spirits, will definitely be returning!

Lovely late lunch, staff very friendly, would highly recommend a visit.

We were concerned when we first arrived as there was only one young serving both restaurant and bar and it was reasonably busy. By the end of our meal we were very impressed. The food came out piping hot and delicious and although the young man didn’t seem to stop everything he did was done competently and with a smile. We will be back.

Wow. Appalling service. I booked a table on a Saturday because I knew it would likely be busy. Arrived on time and approached the bar, said I had a booking for 7pm. The young man behind the bar huffed, turned to his colleague and asked her if she could "sort this out". She was in the middle of making a drink and said she was busy. He then rolled his eyes and stormed off. Came back with a clipboard and shouted "name?" At me across the bar. I gave him my name and he jerked his head in the direction of the dining area. I asked if we should follow and he jerked his head again while rolling his eyes. He took us to a table that had one chair (there were 3 of us) and we then stood there awkwardly until he brought some chairs. He then threw some menus down on the table and told us there was "quite a wait for food". I asked how long and he shrugged. I said are we talking hours here and he shrugged again and started to walk away. The table next to us then asked why he was giving us menus when they had been told the kitchen was shut because it was backed up. Again, the guy shrugged, mumbled something about doing his job and walked off. Needless to say, we left. I get that staffing can be unpredictable and such. But all he needed to say to us at the bar was "I'm sorry, it's really busy here today and there's a long wait for food, do you still want to go ahead with your booking?" And we'd have left happily. But the obnoxious attitude and treating us like dirt was completely uncalled for. I get the job is stressful but there's no need to talk to people like that. Goes without saying that I won't be booking again, and my guess is that neither will any of the other tables who also said they had been waiting over an hour.

Went there for Father’s Day. There was 6 of us. Staff couldn’t do enough for us and the food was outstanding all coming out at the same time and hot. Will be definitely returning in the future.

Disappointed with my meal,had the fish cake,except there was no fish filling in it at all,only a bit of cheese melted inside, certainly not with the £14.95 I payed for it,I've had better out of Iceland!I wouldn't go back

Just had an amazing two course meal and a bottle of wine on their mid-week deal of £17 a head and 20% off a bottle of wine. The food was amazing, freshly prepared and piping hot. The young guy working the bar and tables is a credit to the pub, so helpful and really friendly. All in all we have had a lovely meal in a great pub, with excellent service.

We took my sister and her husband for Sunday roasts on Sunday evening, meals were lovely, views great. We took our dog and we had a nice time.

We stayed out side as to meny dogs in side but food was good.

Great food. Good portions. Lovely friendly atmosphere. We went at lunchtime and ordered from the main menu, but they do a lunch menu if you are after a lighter meal.

Good selection of food at reasonable prices. Staff are ever so nice and polite. Nice size portions. It could do with plenty more parking as about a dozen spaces and they aren't very wide. Maybe the double yellow lines should be scrapped and use as parking? They are dog friendly too. Anyway I would 100% recommend The Jolly Roger for food. The Jolly Roger is situated right on the water front over looking the bay and battleship. Decorated like the inside of a wooden ship with lots of nautical memorabilia and pictures... A lovely place to enjoy the vista over drinks and food

We hired the conservatory with a buffet for my mum's wake. The food was a mixture with vegetarian options kindly 'tweaked' ftom across the buffet menu's to exactly what we needed, it was delicious & very well presented & there was plenty. Extra chairs had been thoughtfully added & space made for us to put up a large memories board on an easel, we'd brought our own background music & small speaker & was even offered the choice of listening via thier own speaker system. Everything went just as we'd hoped, the staff couldn't have been more helpful, I would definitely recommend.
