Barley Mow in Havant

We had a lovely meal there for my Wife’s Birthday. The food was great, value for money and the service amazing. As we were in the area on holiday, we took our very friendly Labrador with us. He was looked after amazingly by the friendly and helpful staff. He made some new friends with Mickey, Darcy and Larna who couldn’t stop popping over to give him a fuss and provide treats. We all had an amazing time. Thank you 👍🏻😎

Food's very well presented and always fresh, meat cooked well and succulent, Sarah takes pride in the presentation and very friendly :)

We always go here after a walked and always great prices and very friendly staff, especially Laila who always happy to serve and very approachable, definitely come back and recommended.

This is a very average place as well as an average carvery. Location- A typical pub setting with plenty of parking and room for disability parking. We had to wait to be seating and it seemed that they were short staff. Carvery- We had to wait ages as the queue was extremely long. The staff were rude with regard to the meat allowances as many people had questions. Bad quality meats, very fatty. They had the usual- roast potatoes, carrots, green beans, stuffing and mash (Not the best variety). We won’t be rushing back but it was okay if you want a quick carvery to fill a gap.

I went recently with my family for an evening meal. The food was amazing, the service was excellent and a very good all round experience. Will definately be going back. Highly recommend to others.

Food was okay. Service speed if ordered from the app, very slow. Took an hour to get 4 starters out. Staff is just walking around while there are so many tables to clear up... If you are coming here just to drink, sure thing. Plan on having food? Take the day off. Price wise for what you get is okay however!

Just visiting the area and the Barley Mow was recommended to us. So pleased we came. Food was delicious and we were made to feel welcome. Great dog friendly pub.

Lovely carvery with my family here today. The beef was wonderful, gammon was so good too. We even had puddings and the apple pie was fantastic! Service was great at the bar from Chantelle and good quality food and service from Layla at the carvery the food was nice and hot and great atmosphere. Thank you we will be back soon!

I came back to the barley today to meet some friends and Sam and Chantelle were serving ,they were so helpful and attentive I will be back again thank you to both girls for making me feel so welcome xxx

Great carvery! My friend ordered a pancake dessert and after waiting over half an hour it was brought out with no pancakes as they said tgey had ran out but they didnt inform her of this. Roast was good 👍🏽

Sam is very lovely comes over as a very kind helpfull person we been coming here a year now me and my dad and seems a very happy person alway quick to help and its a delite to see her still here working hard

Visited the Barley Mow for breakfast. Great service, there was no black pudding, so the lady serving said it would be a couple of minutes, by the time I took my drinks to our table, Laila came and told me that it was ready. The black pudding was cooked to perfection, best black pudding I’ve eaten on the south coast. Food was fresh and piping hot, will definitely return.

Popped in at "The Barley Mow" last summer while visited Hayling Island. The restaurant atmosphere were amazing.Food was so yummy,and I can't wait to get back one day!!! Laila who served us was very lovely and friendly. I highly recommended to other friend whoever like to visit Hayling.

Disappointed dirty tables, atmosphere horrible/staff rude, severe food allergy. Manager very rude asked about menu and allergies got rude response and said speak to bar and walked off when trying continue speaking to him: went to bar and ordered food Jamie at the bar was very polite and helpful and apologised for his bosses behaviour. I was told they needed to find the allergy tablet so I could fill it in as I have a severe allergy. They was going to bring it to me at the table and never happened as they couldn’t find it. My husband had pizza it was lovely no issue at all , I had carvery the food itself was lovely but the lady serving it needs retraining she was cleaning the side where the food is , dropped the cloth on the floor, then picked it up and carried on cleaning the food service with food on there for the carvery. When it came to desserts we ordered Mine with vegan custard due to my allergies and 15 mins later someone come to the table and said they didn’t have any vegan custard but had vegan ice cream would that have been ok. We said yes thank you. The desserts came out when I took one mouthful of my ice cream it didn’t taste right, so I asked my husband to try it and he said it is normal ice cream not vegan which is also what I thought. I didn’t eat anymore of it. 5 mins later I didn’t feel 100% and ran to the toilet and was violently sick as they had given me something I’m allergic to. This is not good enough and has made me seriously sick now. The manager didn’t care at all and just walks away when you try talking to him. I am a head chef myself and if this happened in my kitchen there would be severe consequences something needs to be done about it. My husband will also be reporting this to EHO as this is health and safety and put my life in danger.

This is what they class as a veggie supreme , one slice of mushroom a little bit of red pepper and some sweetcorn. It is all done by weight apparently. Dreadful customer service . If I could give it no stars for service and no stars for food I would.

I came in on Thursday evening and was served by a very helpful lady Sarah behind the carvery. Throughly enjoyed our meal and will defiantly be returning soon .

Had an amazing experience with my girlfriend and her son, had an amazing service given to me by lizzy. They had a very friendly and professional demeanor and made sure we were felt welcomed and looked after 10/10 would recommend.

We received excellent service from Mickey today! I work in the customer service industry and Mickey went above and beyond for us today. Even accommodating my two children and making them feel welcome by making them something that wasn’t on the general menu. Keep up the good work! 😃

Went for a Sunday lunch. Ordered 2 large roasts and a bacon cheese burger. My husband git his large, but I was given a standard plate. The carver was quite rude when I queried the plate, which embarrassed me as there were people behind us. Vegetable selection was limited, but ok. Pudding was ordered, but after 35 minutes, we asked when it would come and was told it would be another 10 minutes. 45 minutes for apple pie and a drizzle of tepid custard! The restaurant was 1/3rd full, so not busy. Table beside us complained about the service as food was bought out staggered. Overall, food wasn't bad, but staff really couldn't care less. Disappointing at best.

Everything perfect as it is every time we visit so glad the pub is still dog friendly.

We were served by larna today she was very helpful and always had a smile on her face.

I came with a few friends to enjoy an evening and the food and service was great. We ordered off the set menu and the cheeseburger was very tasty. But what really made the night was our server Larna she was incredibly helpful with a few of the more picky eaters and she made sure our evening was the best it could be! We will be coming back.

Ate at The Barley Mow on the 11/02/2025. Food was good on a dark and rainly night. Unfortunatley, we picked up a £100 fine for parking in the pub carpark.! We aren't local and had no idea that we were supposed to put our car registration in when we went in to eat! Thankfully, the Manager and the pub company sorted things out with the mimimum of fuss and cancelled the fine. Excellent service but be aware that this pub has a serious parking policy!

Visited the Barley Mow Friday morning for breakfast. Had a great selection of hot food. Sam was very friendly & chatty when clearing our table.

From the moment we walked in, she made us feel incredibly welcome with her warm and friendly demeanor. Her exceptional service truly made our visit unforgettable. Sam was attentive to every detail, ensuring our drinks were perfectly made and that we never had to wait too long. Whether it was recommending the perfect cocktail or engaging us in great conversation, she had an incredible way of making each guest feel special. Even with a busy bar, she handled everything with ease, always making sure we were well taken care of. It’s rare to find someone who balances efficiency with such a personal touch, but Sam does it effortlessly. Her knowledge, passion, and positive energy make her an invaluable part of The Barley Mow. Popped in for dinner with family. Two had carvery, one pizza and one burger. The carvery was really good, the turkey was fresh and very tasty. There was the usual range of vegetables plus freshly made onion gravy held under the bains Marie heater ( previously on another table). The burger looked yummy and the pizza base light with generous topping. Service was quick but we were early at 5.40. The new management and bar staff, Mickey very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. They also were dog friendly to our well behaved Yorkie. The restaurant was clean, fresh looking and tidy, with the floors looking very clear of food. We can’t comment on the toilets as no visit made.

Visited 23/02/2025 Feeling torn on this review good points, booking easy, waitress/host lovely and attentive, one son enjoyed his fish and chips. Enjoyed dessert. easy parking. Room for improvement - the carvery, the lady carving the meat was stand offish borderline rude. Had two all in carvery's with all the trimmings and one normal, all of us just asked for the turkey and was given 1.5 slices of Turkey for the all in carvery however my youngest child who had the normal one had loads of turkey we did laugh as could not make sense of it. Veg not a lot of choice and the cauliflower cheese well that needs improvement, no taste might as well of just had cauliflower on it's own I would happily call the carvery meals "should of stayed home and cooked a roast". 2 desserts ordered which where ok, you can't really mess up ice cream sundaes. I would visit again but would avoid the carvery at all costs.

My father and I visited on the 24th of February 2025, when Rahmat, lizzy, and shae were on duty. The teamwork between these 3 was incredible, such a tight team delivering a superlative service. The food was cooked to perfection, and we couldn't have expected anymore for the price that we paid. A definite case of overdelivery and exceeding expectations.

Perfectly nice restaurant to go to for some snacks and a pint. I find the Barley Mow to be a perfectly good option for a cheap and cheerful meal out in a family friendly venue. It's your standard Stonegate pub but the bar snacks we had were tasty and the staff were very friendly.

We always go here for a dinner and the food is always spot on everytime. We won't be going anywhere else Sorry to say but this place has gone down hill very quick. The pizzas are a complete rip off as all your paying for is flavoured cardboard as for the carvery that is a joke as well the veg is left out to long and it's all dry and not good. Also the carvery area is never clean and there is bits of food everywhere. Please get this sorted and get the restaurant back to its old slandered where it was a nice place to eat. Thanks

1st time I have been in a few years due to bad food. Had a take out last night. The management, Mike, and the bar staff Jamie were amazing. The food was piping hot and truly delicious. I will be back again

We had the misfortune of breaking down in front of the barley mow and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. The food was great and the staff were so very friendly.

We moved to hayling island in November last year and we have been in this place at least once a week since! 😆 we love the 50% off burger and pizza nights. Great value for money 💰

Had breakfast today , spoilt by not having real butter to go on the toast ,therefore no toast with our breakfast. Not the first time ,previously had a large tub of cooking margarine put by the toaster but today they had gone to the effort of putting the cheap spread in individual portions in plastic dishes ,not sure if they thought nobody would realise .

Took my grandson to go get some dinner, he’s a bit picky and didn’t want a lot of what was on their menu, our server Rahmat and of course the chefs were really accommodating to this, put my grandson a special meal together that consisted of what he wanted off of the menu.

Very nice venue, food was good, service also very friendly and welcoming. Regular carvery was a reasonable size (a tiny bit more meat would be good), otherwise a very nice meal had by all (pizzas looked amazing)

First time visiting here and the team looked after me and my family very well. Portion sizes were huge and Mickys customer service will be the main reason we come back! Good job

Came for breakfast with colleagues. We’re told upon arrival that there were no eggs and no black pudding. This is 2 out of the 10 items usually available on the breakfast buffet. We asked if there was a discount on offer but were told there was not. On the positive side, mushrooms are now pert of the buffet rather than an item you have to pay extra for 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not a bad place, clean and foods ok, but got forgotten about when ordering deserts. Reminded them twice and still forgotten. How hard can it be ?

The recent redecoration of the Barley Mow has made the venue far more attractive as an eatery. Lizzie served us at the bar on the last two occasions and she was welcoming, pleasant, cheerful and professional; it’s good to see an improvement in the staff from a few months ago. We’ve used the carvery for years and the food was as good as ever. Thank you. J&L
