First time visit to Hayling visiting my brother who has moved here, we had Sunday lunch today, what a view just amazing. Shame we had to wait nearly an hour for our roast, luckily it was delicious so worth the wait . Toilets really need some tlc, overflowing bins and quite grubby.

My wife and I have lived just a couple of hundred yards from the Inn since 1992 and have been there numerous times. Not surprisingly, we have always wanted it to be an excellent local bar/restaurant on our doorstep. It has changed hands a number of times over the years and it has been fairly good, fairly bad and frequently very indifferent food and service. We had not been for some time and went with no great expectations. The barman (sorry, didn't get his name but impressive tattoo sleeves) was very friendly and welcoming. Our waiter Ben, could not have been more attentive and helpful (give him a pay rise...) The menu is quite limited, just nine main dishes, (so docked a point) but arguably better to do a limited menu very well, rather than offer dozens of options done fairly well. We shared Korean chicken bites as a starter, excellent. I had the classic haddock and chips. About the size of a small whale, the fish was larger than the plate, the batter was perfect, chunky chips (triple cooked?) were just as chunky chips should be. Sadly, I could not finish the whole plate. My wife had the flat iron steak, medium rare, spot on. We thought thst it was a shame that on a perfect evening in early October, in such a setting, the place should have been full, but it was fairly quiet.

The view was stunning. Could watch the ships going in and out of the solent. Amazing view of the isle of wight. Food was great. I had flat Iron steak with chips and garlic butter with a glass of wine included. (Asked for steak to be cooked medium rare 🤗) Husband and friend had fish and chips. All was absolutely delicious. Barman/waiter was very professional. Downside was car park in process of being done, so many potholes, but we got our parking taken off the final bill. So for drinks before and meal total bill came to £69.30 for th 3 of us. Bargain. Wel! Done inn on the beach. And will recommend. Thank you

Very disappointing Sunday lunch. Waited 50 minutes for main course. Pork tough and soggy. No crackling as advertised. Potatoes probably cooked 2 days ago and reheated. Yorkshire pudding was just a large crunch. Desert never arrived and we left after 40 minutes.

Absolutely wonderful location! Would definitely only recommend having a drink. We were given a menu, and saw they were doing a roast dinner, and decided to go for this option. I had the vegetarian and husband had the pork. There was also a side option 3 for £12, which included cauliflower cheese, stuffing, and pigs in blankets. So we decided to get that as well. Waited an hour for probably the worst roast dinner I have ever had! We had already heard the waiter apologise for the slow service on the table behind us, and was debating going. I think the waiter could tell we eventually had enough, as he apologised and said they were plating it up. He said it was due to a large group. There was a large group, but the place was not full at all, so I was unsure why this would affect making the food, and it was not my problem at all. We waited as they said they said they were bringing it out, but I wish we had left before it arrived. We had waited an hour, so I was just happy something arrived, and the word I would describe it as was edible. Good job, we had the sides, as it wasn't very big. There was no flavour what's so ever. The roast potatoes were diabolical, as if they had been frozen and reheated. Minimal vegetables, and this Wellington thing, not really sure what was going on. Our sides, one of the worst cauliflower cheeses I've had, I mean how can you muck up cauliflower cheese? Stuffing wasn't even cooked properly and fell apart. Husband said pork was so dry and chewy. Didn't even give him a proper knife to cut it. Left the Yorkshire pudding as it was oily. Pigs in blankets were big sausages, but he said it was the best out of a bad bunch. No one asked us how our food was during or asked us if we needed any sauces, which might have made it taste better. We should of left, but after an hour, we just wanted to eat it, as already waisted an hour and carry on with our day. Waited with a card in my hand, waiting for someone to clear our plates and ask for the bill. But ended up having to get up and ask for the bill. The girl asked how the food was, and we said it was ok, you could tell we was not happy, but she did not ask further. Will not be returning for food ever again. A drink at the very most as a fantastic location. The paying for parking to is crazy, thank god we put 2 hours on. I actually don't know how you can not get one single aspect of a roast dinner correct? Like there was not a single bit of flavour, just bland. After waiting an hour we was expecting something great, and we got edible. Maybe a cookbook for roast dinners before Christmas arrives.

It's been some years since I have visited Inn on the Beach, although I am a frequent visitor to the island. We normally stay at an hotel there. This time though we were in our own time and so a visit. It's was quiet, 24th September but the member of staff was just as attentive as the staff had been in my earlier days there. The meals were excellent. Both my haddock and chips, and my partners king prawns were cooked and presented beautifully. Sadly it may be a while before we return but I suspect the standard will still be just as high. Beautiful views down the beach the restaurant lives up to its name.

As the name of the venue declares this pub and restaurant sits directly on the West Beach, south side of Hayling Island, overlooking the Isle of Wight and whatever comes next across the Atlantic, heading south. Great location. Parking, is controlled by the local Council and is basically Pay and Display. Once inside (or outside on the spacious decking), the bar is well stocked. The Fish and Chips, on this visit, was huge and delicious. The table service was polite and friendly. It was perfect for a pub lunch whilst visiting the Portsmouth area

I am afraid my experience was rather different from the general opinion expressed here. I have lunched here twice and enjoyed the food on both occasions (most recently dressed crab, a tasty salad with apples, excellent skin on fries and a good chocolate sundae for dessert). However the room where I was seated was shabby and not overly clean and the service on my latest visit painfully slow for no apparent reason. (The staff though were pleasant to deal with). The family group on an adjacent table left most of their food and refused to pay the bill. I like the view from the restaurant photographs of which are on this site.

have been twice, first time was seated and not informed of any items not being available. We came to order and they did not have the flat iron steak so then asked for the pasta which they said they had none of the items such as chorizo to go in it. Then came to dessert and again had nothing left. We ate and it was nice but obviously not what we expected. We then revisited having booked a table for 14 of us, arrived a little late as the parking was horrendous (but sent someone in on time to let them know) We arrived and were told to wait and someone wanted to speak to us, he then came over and informed us that we had booked for 7:00 so our table was no longer available, we corrected him politely and said it was booked for 7:30 and he apologised but said he couldn’t serve us as he read the time wrong, thought we were late and so closed the kitchen and therefore could offer us salads or a burger to eat. We didn’t stay so went someone else who were very accommodating of our last minute booking :(

We visited on Friday 26th July 2024 on a family holiday. Very disappointing, for various reasons. Main reason was length of service, it took 20 mins for our drinks to arrive, then 40 mins for our food to arrive. The place was almost empty with only 2-3 other tables on the place so wasn’t like they were rushed off their feet. The waiter put his fingers inside the glasses before correcting himself and putting the glasses on the table. We asked the waiter if the chicken starter was spicy he said it was sweet, so we ordered it but it was very spicy so had to send it back. My sister had given up at this point so just ate her cheesy chips. This was probably our error as everyone has different preferences of spicy. I then ordered the prawns in garlic instead, it didn’t state on the menu that they were in their shells and maybe I should have asked, but I wouldn’t have ordered if I’d known so didn’t eat them. Our family member who was 18, was served a larger at the bar. The second time he went to the bar he was refused as he didn’t have his ID on him, fair enough but we then had a waitress watching our table to make sure he didn’t drink anything, which was very obvious and made the already awful experience more annoying. We were there nearly two hours but not by choice. Positives were, lovely views & venue. Waiter & staff were pleasant. Family members who had the Fish & chips and the Steak said it was lovely. We wouldn’t go back but I hope this review helps you improve your service.

If you need time to soothe the soul, this is the place. Everyone is welcome at the Inn. Set in a beautiful location with spectacular views across the sea and down the beach from most areas of this little gem. Plenty of places to sit inside or out. We were there for a private function held in the Conservatory and found all of the staff very welcoming, polite and helpful. There is plenty of seating, inside and out. The food was delicious whether eating a light snack, main meal or dessert. So if you are looking to treat the family, meet up with friends or in need of some quiet time on your own the Inn on the Beach has it all, dog friendly and with plenty of parking too. The only thing to be aware of is the main bar and restaurant are on the first floor accessible by a flight of stairs with the toilets located on the ground floor. We went when the weather was absolutely blustering, could barely walk outside without being buffeted by the wind, but when we got in it was warm and pleasant inside. Second time we've been here in a few months and we definitely won't be returning, long waits both times and just average food for the price. We waited at our table for 10 mins without being asked if we wanted drinks, my father in law was then turned away from the bar due to "table service". After another wait of 10 mins with no one coming over, I went to the bar myself and as was told "you're supposed to wait for table service"... After explaining we've been waiting 20 mins and we just wanted some drinks, he allowed me to purchase some at the bar. We then waited almost an hour for our food to arrive, which was lukewarm when it arrived. No bowl offered to our dog, despite being a dog friendly place, I thought that was a bit disappointing, not a problem as we'd bought out own but would have been a nice touch. The food was ok...can't really say more than that. Anemic looking veg, and courgettes with a roast was new for me, and quite fatty beef. And after all that wait, my son wouldn't even eat the chicken nuggets because they were too fancy looking...just way too ott for a toddler meal, attached a photo...after thinking maybe it's just my kid, I showed to my friends with toddlers who also said their kids probably wouldn't have tried them either. Lastly, the toilets obviously hadn't been checked in the 2 hours we were there (I went in as we entered and as we left) one didn't have any toilet roll, there was no soap in the dispensers and the floor was totally soaking wet. Just a really disappointing experience.

Everything sticky from spilt drinks, floor, tabletops…place full of flies, and window sills full of dead flies… food took ages to be served, and was I though expensive for size of servings, steak was tough…even though cooked medium rare… best best is fish and chips at £17 a go…better still I suspect from a fish and chip shop…waiter was ok (not very experienced), and didn’t know what beers they served…the place was dark and dingy, and the toilets were pretty poor too…only access to restaurant is via stairs, so if you have mobility issues, give it a miss… overall I don’t recommend this place, and won’t be using it again… shame really it has a great site right on the shore, but too little investment and care means the place is crabby and poor… could do so much better…

Haven’t eaten here for a year due to reviews. However, really pleasantly surprised today having Sunday lunch with friends. 5 of us and we all had a delicious meal. Credit to the chef. Will definitely come again. Thanks Inn on the Beach.

Not happy having to pay to park in front of the pub. You only get a refund if you eat there not if you drink there. Not for us.

Definitely the place to be on a spring/summers day. Arriving at 10am I had a spot on coffee and enjoyed the sun and sea views. Shame I had to leave early as the menu looked tasty.

No disabled access except for decking outside. No tray on baby highchair. Food was delivered cold after over an hour wait. Fish was greasy. When the children’s meal was sent back it was microwaved. No apology offered

Ordered food; about an hour later it still hadn’t arrived. I went and asked where it was - came out straight away- completely cold. Clearly been sat somewhere. Didn’t eat it - got a refund.

I stayed here on 9-10 Nov 2024 with my partner, going to an event nearby. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and that's where the compliments end. Because unfortunately the lovely bed was in a room that was in this hotel, which was regrettably dreadful. My expectations for the hotel were not great. But the location was ideal for our reason to stay. The hotel smells damp from the minute you embark on the trek to your room up the many stairs that flail off in different directions. Our first room smelt old and mouldy - the wardrobe was unusable because of this. My partner decided to use the bath (after a quick clean) which was all going well until she tried to stop it. The cold tap wouldn't turn off, sending us into a mild panic. I shot off an the expedition back to the reception, where I quickly interrupted the two chatting staff (still in a mild panic) to explain that we can not turn the cold water tap off in the bathroom. The response was a very serious, 'Would you like us to come and take a look?' 'Either that, or your hotel might flood, I guess!' By now, I could have quite easily cancelled my evening plans and just driven home, but they soon realised the issues and moved us to another room. The new room (49) was much more modern - 1990's I'd say compared to 1970s in the previous room. The bathroom was less mouldy and the taps worked which was a start. The wardrobe also smelt fresher. Despite being told when we checked in that our room was not near the downstairs wedding party, we were actually on the top floor directly right above it. So, when came back to the room at 11 ready for bed, the room was shaking and filled with the beat of what seemed like a rave downstairs. My partner was none to pleased to say the least and shot off back on the journey down to the reception. (If you want to get your daily steps in, this may be the hotel for you if you can cope with all the other stuff BTW). When she argued that we were told that we would be nowhere near the party, the answer was along the lines of... 'Oh no, all the rooms are either near the bar or the venue. She wouldn't have said that'. The only plus was that the party was finishing at 11.30. So, at around 11.20 the rave stopped and we had to endure a room full of party goers hammering out Angels by Robbie Williams, followed by You'll Never Walk Alone before the music stopped and the throng of people went for a loud chat outside, right beneath out window in the car park. Thank heavens for ear plugs. Needless to say, We'll Never Stay Again.

Good standard of carvery food plus other options including pizza made in front of you. Lots of veg choice. Very friendly and helpful staff committed to customer satisfaction. The Stonehouse app is essential for special offers and discounts but is easy to use. Will definitely visit again and try other Stonehouse restaurants.
