We ordered two Flat Iron Steak, two Fish’n Chips and one Pie of the day. The service was really friendly and the food came quickly and was absolutely delicious. Also the Treakle Pie and the Apple and Plumb with custard was an absolute treat! The view was great and we will recommend this Inn to everyone we know! We ordered two Steaks, two fish and chips and a pie “of the day”. The food arrived quickly and was delicious! The waiter was a very friendly guy and helped us with the menus and orders. The view from the restaurant is amazing, we will recommend this restaurant to everyone. We hatten das Steak, die Fish’n’Chips und eine Pastete. Das Essen kam schnell und war köstlich. Das Steak wurde je nach satiere personale Schmack. The view was very nice and the service was very helpful and nett. Very helpful!

We held a team day out in the conference area at Inn on the Beach and I would definitely recommend. The space was perfect to accommodate our group of 30, allowing us to break out into the different areas for our different activities. Dan was super accommodating ensuring we had everything we needed leading up and on the day, he also put on a lovely lunch for us. The venue also had a TV screen which was a great addition for our presentation.

Splendid restaurant with delicious food and friendly staff. We always enjoy coming to this lovely spot, from which fine views out to the sea can be enjoyed. The staff were hospitable and went out of their way to help us. Our baby is still very young so it can be daunting taking her on days out, but the ginger bearded chap behind the bar put us at ease straight away. The Irish chef was friendly and cooked us two outstanding meals - a full English for me and a breakfast butty for my wife. Sorted us right out for the day! We can’t wait to come back.

Went here not last weekend, but the weekend before. Had never heard of this place before, nor had I ever been to Hayling island. However, my partner and I just wanted to pop out and try somewhere new. So glad that we did! The day was gloomy and overcast, but even still the atmosphere in the pub was warm, welcoming, and cosy. With wide views out to the sea. We even noticed, as we strolled back from a walk later that evening, that the conservatories seemed to have adorable, fairy style lighting on the ceilings! Food wise, my partner and I were able to have drinks, starters, and mains all for £75 - a good price in the current climate! The food itself was also exquisite, I personally had the Scottish Mussels and what a treat! I can't wait to have them again, took me right back to childhood holidays having Moule in France! Seriously couldn't have been happier with the experience. Can't wait to go back!

With pleasure I give this establishment a five star review. The service is excellent; all staff I have met are polite, friendly and when not busy bring coffees/teas over to our table. It is fairly priced in comparison to other establishments and has the best outlook of anywhere on the island (in my opinion). Dog friendly (in the conservatory area at least - not sure about main restaurant). It is always best to book at weekends as the restaurant can become very busy and whilst the staff will endeavour to accommodate it isn't always possible. Lovely coffee and generous pots of tea too!

We visited the Inn on the Beach on Boxing Day, hoping for a special post-Christmas treat. Sadly, it didn’t live up to expectations. The car park was a soggy mess, with large puddles making it difficult to find a dry path. Inside, the restaurant was festive but chaotic, with noisy diners, barking dogs, and cramped seating. Although we had a nice view of the Solent, one of our chairs was awkwardly placed in a doorway, which was uncomfortable. Service was slow, and the menu caused confusion. My mother, who booked in October, had been excited for the Christmas menu but was disappointed to find it wasn’t available for smaller groups—a fact that wasn’t communicated when booking. The regular menu was basic pub fare, and although there were options for vegetarians, gluten-free, and plant-based diets, there was very little choice for people with sensitive stomachs, like my elderly mother. When the one suitable starter (celeriac soup) was unavailable, we were left without a starter altogether. The mains were uninspiring but acceptable. My mother managed to get the last haddock and chips, while I settled for a chicken pie, though the menu incorrectly listed it as steak. Dessert was similarly disappointing; there was no crumble, so I went without, while my mother had a brownie she described as just "OK." The setting is lovely, and the staff were polite, but the disorganization, menu limitations, and lack of attention to customers with dietary needs made for a frustrating experience. It was a real shame, especially as my mother had been looking forward to this for weeks.

My wife and I have lived just a couple of hundred yards from the Inn since 1992 and have been there numerous times. Not surprisingly, we have always wanted it to be an excellent local bar/restaurant on our doorstep. It has changed hands a number of times over the years and it has been fairly good, fairly bad and frequently very indifferent food and service. We had not been for some time and went with no great expectations. The barman (sorry, didn't get his name but impressive tattoo sleeves) was very friendly and welcoming. Our waiter Ben, could not have been more attentive and helpful (give him a pay rise...) The menu is quite limited, just nine main dishes, (so docked a point) but arguably better to do a limited menu very well, rather than offer dozens of options done fairly well. We shared Korean chicken bites as a starter, excellent. I had the classic haddock and chips. About the size of a small whale, the fish was larger than the plate, the batter was perfect, chunky chips (triple cooked?) were just as chunky chips should be. Sadly, I could not finish the whole plate. My wife had the flat iron steak, medium rare, spot on. We thought thst it was a shame that on a perfect evening in early October, in such a setting, the place should have been full, but it was fairly quiet.

Barman/waiter was very professional. Downside was car park in process of being done, so many potholes, but we got our parking taken off the final bill. So for drinks before and meal total bill came to £69.30 for th 3 of us. Bargain. Wel! Done inn on the beach. And will recommend. Thank you

Absolutely wonderful location! Would definitely only recommend having a drink. We were given a menu, and saw they were doing a roast dinner, and decided to go for this option. I had the vegetarian and husband had the pork. There was also a side option 3 for £12, which included cauliflower cheese, stuffing, and pigs in blankets. So we decided to get that as well. Waited an hour for probably the worst roast dinner I have ever had! We had already heard the waiter apologise for the slow service on the table behind us, and was debating going. I think the waiter could tell we eventually had enough, as he apologised and said they were plating it up. He said it was due to a large group. There was a large group, but the place was not full at all, so I was unsure why this would affect making the food, and it was not my problem at all. We waited as they said they said they were bringing it out, but I wish we had left before it arrived. We had waited an hour, so I was just happy something arrived, and the word I would describe it as was edible. Good job, we had the sides, as it wasn't very big. There was no flavour what's so ever. The roast potatoes were diabolical, as if they had been frozen and reheated. Minimal vegetables, and this Wellington thing, not really sure what was going on. Our sides, one of the worst cauliflower cheeses I've had, I mean how can you muck up cauliflower cheese? Stuffing wasn't even cooked properly and fell apart. Husband said pork was so dry and chewy. Didn't even give him a proper knife to cut it. Left the Yorkshire pudding as it was oily. Pigs in blankets were big sausages, but he said it was the best out of a bad bunch. No one asked us how our food was during or asked us if we needed any sauces, which might have made it taste better. We should of left, but after an hour, we just wanted to eat it, as already waisted an hour and carry on with our day. Waited with a card in my hand, waiting for someone to clear our plates and ask for the bill. But ended up having to get up and ask for the bill. The girl asked how the food was, and we said it was ok, you could tell we was not happy, but she did not ask further. Will not be returning for food ever again. A drink at the very most as a fantastic location. The paying for parking to is crazy, thank god we put 2 hours on. I actually don't know how you can not get one single aspect of a roast dinner correct? Like there was not a single bit of flavour, just bland. After waiting an hour we was expecting something great, and we got edible. Maybe a cookbook for roast dinners before Christmas arrives.

This time though we were in our own time and so a visit. It's was quiet, 24th September but the member of staff was just as attentive as the staff had been in my earlier days there. The meals were excellent. Both my haddock and chips, and my partners king prawns were cooked and presented beautifully. Sadly it may be a while before we return but I suspect the standard will still be just as high. Beautiful views down the beach the restaurant lives up to its name.

I am afraid my experience was rather different from the general opinion expressed here. I have lunched here twice and enjoyed the food on both occasions (most recently dressed crab, a tasty salad with apples, excellent skin on fries and a good chocolate sundae for dessert). However the room where I was seated was shabby and not overly clean and the service on my latest visit painfully slow for no apparent reason. (The staff though were pleasant to deal with). We then revisited having booked a table for 14 of us, arrived a little late as the parking was horrendous (but sent someone in on time to let them know) We arrived and were told to wait and someone wanted to speak to us, he then came over and informed us that we had booked for 7:00 so our table was no longer available, we corrected him politely and said it was booked for 7:30 and he apologised but said he couldn’t serve us as he read the time wrong, thought we were late and so closed the kitchen and therefore could offer us salads or a burger to eat. We didn’t stay so went someone else who were very accommodating of our last minute booking :(

So looking forward to having dinner at the Inn. Service was shocking, food was even worse. Only 1 of 4 meals really met expectations. My brother returned 2 meals and gate up. My meal was bearly warm and I'm not sure about the mussels, tomorrow we'll know. We've been to the island many times and I've always wanted to have dinner overlooking the beach. Frankly am most disappointed and won't be returning.

Service was a bit slapdash. Firm believe flows down from the top from management. Chips were top notch, fish batter on the greasy side and mushy peas dry. Location superb.

We visited on Friday 26th July 2024 on a family holiday. Very disappointing, for various reasons. Main reason was length of service, it took 20 mins for our drinks to arrive, then 40 mins for our food to arrive. The place was almost empty with only 2-3 other tables on the place so wasn’t like they were rushed off their feet. The waiter put his fingers inside the glasses before correcting himself and putting the glasses on the table. We asked the waiter if the chicken starter was spicy he said it was sweet, so we ordered it but it was very spicy so had to send it back. My sister had given up at this point so just ate her cheesy chips. This was probably our error as everyone has different preferences of spicy. I then ordered the prawns in garlic instead, it didn’t state on the menu that they were in their shells and maybe I should have asked, but I wouldn’t have ordered if I’d known so didn’t eat them. Our family member who was 18, was served a larger at the bar. The second time he went to the bar he was refused as he didn’t have his ID on him, fair enough but we then had a waitress watching our table to make sure he didn’t drink anything, which was very obvious and made the already awful experience more annoying. We were there nearly two hours but not by choice. Positives were, lovely views & venue. Waiter & staff were pleasant. Family members who had the Fish & chips and the Steak said it was lovely. We wouldn’t go back but I hope this review helps you improve your service.

Location right on the beach is perfect. I not go inside because have job to do outside of the Inn of the Beach. Customer car locked car keys in the car and i come to rescue family of 3. Parking space can be nicer, a lot of water and mud all around

Really enjoyed this, my wife and I had a sharing plate of nachos followed by the fish and chips - both highly recommended! We went during a quiet time and it was still quite busy.

This is the 3rd time my wife and I have eaten there and we have nothing but praise for the lovely efficient and welcoming staff, thank you all. The restaurant is very spacious and very pleasantly fitted and the staff are aways quick to clear tables. Drinks are plentiful whatever ones tipple and the menu is very comprehensive and very reasonably priced. Car parking in the area is a bit of a nightmare, just make sure you don't park in the open air car park near Tesco it's a big con and they will award you with penalty notices for any infringement of their cunning excuses. ENJOY.

We had a lovely meal there for my Wife’s Birthday. The food was great, value for money and the service amazing. As we were in the area on holiday, we took our very friendly Labrador with us. He was looked after amazingly by the friendly and helpful staff. He made some new friends with Mickey, Darcy and Larna who couldn’t stop popping over to give him a fuss and provide treats. We all had an amazing time. Thank you 👍🏻😎

The Bear Hotel, situated on the north side of East Street a stone's throw from the centre of this red-brick Georgian settlement - made prosperous by the sale of Parchment and Watercress - is probably the most distinguished and historic place to eat, drink and spend the night in the south Hampshire market town of Havant. Indeed, none other than His Grace the First Duke of Wellington, victor of the Battle of Waterloo, stayed here in 1820 when he visited Havant in order to open the first permanent wooden bridge which linked nearby Hayling Island to the rest of England. The large entrance from what was once the main trunk road linking Southampton to Dover, and the extensive back yard (now used for car parking) confirm that The Bear is the sole survivor of Havant's two, 18th Century Coaching Inns, the other - The Antelope - having been demolished to make way for a dull, 1960's shopping precinct. The Bear is a dog-friendly, 42-bedroom hotel owned by the Greene King Inns pub chain. Their usual range of draught and bottled beers (including my personal favourite, Old Speckled Hen) are on offer in the cosy public bar,, where a roaring log fire welcomes visitors during the colder months of the year. The Dinner Menu includes such old favourites as Slow-Cooked Lamb Shank with Buttered Mash (or even Chips!) for GBP 20:50, or - if you prefer - Beef and Ale Pie with Broccoli and Mash for GBP 14:00. There is an extensive and reasonably-priced wine list, including such gems as Picpoul de Pinet from the south of France for GBP 22:49 per bottle, but the Reds, Whites and Rose's are also sold by the glass in small, medium and large portions. There are a couple of 3-Pin, 240 Volt power sockets in the Public Bar and wireless internet access, although not especially fast, is free-of-charge. The bar staff are, as always, models of friendliness and helpfulness.
