Lovely venue and friendly staff but didn't get the chance to try the menu. Had to cancel order as dogs off lead in garden aggitated my dog who we had to take back to the car and leave. No sign to remind patrons that only dogs on leads welcome. It's a shame as we are unlikely to risk a repeat of this unfortunate experience

The Best Nachos Ever – A Must-Try at The Royal Oak! If you’re a nacho lover, do yourself a favor and head to The Royal Oak—because these are hands down the best nachos I’ve ever had! From the first bite, I knew these weren’t just any nachos. The tortilla chips were perfectly crisp, layered generously (no dry chips here!) with rich, gooey melted cheese. The toppings were spot on—fresh, tangy salsa, smooth sour cream, and just the right kick from jalapeños. Every bite was a perfect balance of crunch, spice, and cheesy goodness. The portion was generous, ideal for sharing (though you might not want to!). Paired with a great drink and the cozy atmosphere of The Royal Oak, it made for an unforgettable treat. If you’re in the area and craving top-tier nachos, you need to try these. Trust me, you won’t regret it

Nice location, although parking is extremely limited. Staff were pleasant and helpful. The food, though, was not good. Chips tasted as though they were cooked several times. The fish overcooked, the chicken overcooked, the halumi fries overcooked, and the kids' pizzas were atrocious - hard with little to no toppings on them. Of course, we are British, so we rarely complain for fear of having food returned with spit on it. We just don't return!

Fantastic find! We were out hiking from WARNER'S so still full from breakfast and knowing we were returning to a filing dinner we only wanted a drink and snack. The coffee and cake was perfect for me and hubby had cheesy garlic bread. All good. So not high spending customers 😊! However, the welcome and hospitality couldn't have been better. Nice chat, showed us the paintings of this picturesque pub and pointed out where you can find seals nearby. Thus man deserves the best future career in hospitality. He made our day. Thank you.

We arrived as a family of five. Including a toddler, we booked table for 4pm. When arrived no table ready for us so lift at the bar for 30 minutes! Then sat at table and wasn't given kiss menus, I asked they never arrived. I had to ask bar again. Was 5.30 before our food arrived, 1 half hours after arrival. Our toddler upset and we all felt stressed. Such a shame as food was nice but not great service. No one came to clear plates or offer puddings etc. We left and made our way to the bar to pay. Asked manager for a discount due to wait times and were told no.

I love the oak! I first turned up there a year ago, with my mtb. The first pub I’d walked into alone. (50yr old female at the time). The door hadn’t even had the opportunity to close and I was welcomed and my mind put at ease. I had Christmas 2024 dinner here and it was lovely. I visit here 1 or twice a week with my bike. My coffee is normally being poured ready for me. The locals have welcomed me and I must admit my favourite staff are Pete and Mike. What a fantastic place! They also are dog friendly and have a doggy food menu !! As well as a bike rack for locking bikes up around the side of the building. So, if you’re looking for less of commercially busy pub, to take the dogs for a walk and have good food, drink or even a coffee. Please check out the oak. You won’t be disappointed!

For a quarter of a century, I have patronised this establishment, watching it evolve—though, regrettably, not for the better. Once a convivial haven, it has now morphed into an insular enclave, where the management’s disdain for certain demographics, particularly those of a more youthful disposition, is both palpable and perplexing. Their draconian policies, cloaked in the veneer of health and safety, betray an undercurrent of outright hostility rather than mere curation of ambiance. The olfactory affront that now pervades the premises is equally disconcerting—an enigmatic mélange of stale neglect and something more ineffable, an acrid undertone that renders both libation and repast less than palatable. The atmosphere, once redolent of bonhomie, is now thick with an almost performative aloofness, as if each interaction with staff is an exercise in begrudging tolerance. What was once an institution of warmth and revelry has transmuted into something entirely different—a space devoid of its erstwhile charm, marred by an ethos that prioritises exclusion over hospitality. With a heavy heart, I shall take my custom elsewhere, lamenting the slow, deliberate erosion of what once was.

Been there for years and years and previous management have never been able to get it right. It’s very polished now. Fantastic to see what should be a gold mine doing its thing. Well done to all. 5*

Waited around 45 mins for starters to be cold and double fried because clearly they left it on the side to get cold and refried it. Poor portions. The main came ages later (lost count) wasn’t hungry anymore and I mean please look at the pictures, for £25 few chips and some mushrooms we didn’t accept that… just paid for the starter and drinks. servers were friendly and very apologetic, such a nice location just a shame the food was such a disappointment. Just had an evening meal at The Royal Oak Hayling island. Firstly we ordered the roast ( there was 4 adults and 3 children) only to be told a while later that the roast was now finished. We ordered 6 other meals and 3 starters, the starters came about 45mins later, while we waited 1 hour and 30 mins for the main meals, we were there for 6.45pm and the meals came after 8.20pm, the double steak at (almost £30) was over cooked, the scampi was over cooked and very watery, peas cold, out of 6 meals there was one just passable and one ok, I had eaten in this pub previously, so took my daughter and her family there while visiting us, to say we were disappointed, would be an understatement. My advise would be to stay clear of this place.

Made a booking early in the morning, 1 hour before the booking the royal oak called to say they now have a larger booking so won't be able to sit us.. absolutely useless. What the point of allowing online booking if you can't sit people. We booked this to use a voucher they gave us for the last time we were there and had to leave because we waited OVER an hour to be told our order hadn't made it from the app to the kitchen. Food would then be another 30 minutes after we told them about the order which they then found but by this point we had to leave. Both times they have blamed green king rather than taking responsibility. Green kings fault for the app not notifying their kitchen, now green kings fault for allowing a booking.

Ordered the chicken schnitzel and a kids chicken nuggets and chips, with the cheesy garlic and rosemary focaccia on the side. The Schnitzel was lovely, crispy outer crumb and the chicken was cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. The sauce tasted great and was a good consistency, with a generous enough serving to cover the schnitzel and have some left over to accompany the salad as well. I didn't try the kids meal but the daughter enjoyed it a lot. The focaccia was good, but let down a little by the texture. The garlic, rosemary and cheese were balanced nicely without one flavour overpowering the others, however the focaccia itself was quite hard to the point where my jaw muscles felt like they were getting a decent workout while eating. For this reason I've knocked off a star for the food, but if I could give it 4 and a half then I feel like this would be a better representation of the quality of the food. The venue itself is set in a fantastic location, right next to the waters edge and the garden is lovely with plenty of shading on a hot day. Very clean and tidy interior with friendly staff and quick service both when ordering and receiving the food.

We took my mum to the Royal Oak for lunch today. We all had different meals and all agreed they were very nice. For me, there was a couple of veggie options and the one I chose was very tasty. The prices were very fair, the staff were pleasant and the location is lovely.

Came to the Royal Oak for a roast. All I can say is MIKE! He’s amazing. Go there just for him. Food was fab but Mike is so funny. Staff all friendly. He said he doesn’t usually work Sundays but please try and catch him he’s honestly the best

Lovely pub by the water, very friendly staff and reasonable prices considering the location.

A lovely venue to enjoy a British pub. The Royal Oak is surrounded by water making it quite unique. We were 7 people and three families varying from Hayling island, Taiwan and Netherlands. This was our last dinner together on the way to the airport and it didn’t disappoint. No service in the garden but you will be brought your food to your table in the garden. Burgers are good, beef bourgingnon and lamb was good. The kids selection is pretty good too and good value for money. Highly recommended

Avoid: Came here 2 years ago and swore off it after waiting over 2 hours for cold, crispy food. Thought we'd try again as maybe new management but the pints were extortionate, the bar staff genuinely seem like they hate being here, slow service, somebody got overcharged for drinks and they made it really difficult for him to get a refund, we were finishing our £6 pints and the bar staff had long hidden, we got chatting to a guy for 10 minutes who ultimately (later than o would have) walked out and the toilet (would be plural but one was "shut" due to the loo being full of sick and loo roll) had a patched over hole that I tried to step on and it nearly caved in, leaving me to hurt myself trying to skirt between the door and the toilet, only to find out there was no loo roll. The other toilet had "cleaning in progress signs" that had active cobwebs on it so clearly had been there a while but was unusable. Burnt food being brought out to everyone which was a blessing as we nearly ordered food. Honestly this place is embarrassing and just relying on location: the ship Inn is about the same price but actually run like a pub and not a shanty town with miserable staff: just do yourself a favour and walk a bit further out.

Decided to take my wife here for Sunday Lunch due to being so disappointed with The Cross Chichester being dirty dusty and full of cobwebs. Anyway arrived at the Royal Oak Langston at the time I booked 12.45 and the lady brought drinks to the table and see said sorry but there will be half a hr wait for the food we said ok 1 hr 20 mins later our food arrived only to be told they forgot to make the Yorkshire puddings. I had the chicken and pulled bacon pie but the tender stem greens were not cooked at no course were we offered any refund for items missing from our lunch and the wait for our meals I had to apologise to my wife for taking her to your pub which is such a lovely surroundings but the service is treadfull.

Stop off for a drink but do not come here to eat. I've used the pub on and off for about 12 years and really want to like it as it's such a beautiful setting. But it constantly disappoints. I come in once or twice a year but the service is shocking. The staff try their best, but the food is always late and service is always slow even when the pub is half empty. One family waited 2 hours for food while we were in there. The location is amazing, but the service in the pub is incredibly disappointing.

A customer who only had a coffee had a very yapping dog, which spoilt a very nice lunch, many customers had well-behaved dogs.

The Bear Hotel, situated on the north side of East Street a stone's throw from the centre of this red-brick Georgian settlement - made prosperous by the sale of Parchment and Watercress - is probably the most distinguished and historic place to eat, drink and spend the night in the south Hampshire market town of Havant. Indeed, none other than His Grace the First Duke of Wellington, victor of the Battle of Waterloo, stayed here in 1820 when he visited Havant in order to open the first permanent wooden bridge which linked nearby Hayling Island to the rest of England. The large entrance from what was once the main trunk road linking Southampton to Dover, and the extensive back yard (now used for car parking) confirm that The Bear is the sole survivor of Havant's two, 18th Century Coaching Inns, the other - The Antelope - having been demolished to make way for a dull, 1960's shopping precinct. The Bear is a dog-friendly, 42-bedroom hotel owned by the Greene King Inns pub chain. Their usual range of draught and bottled beers (including my personal favourite, Old Speckled Hen) are on offer in the cosy public bar,, where a roaring log fire welcomes visitors during the colder months of the year. The Dinner Menu includes such old favourites as Slow-Cooked Lamb Shank with Buttered Mash (or even Chips!) for GBP 20:50, or - if you prefer - Beef and Ale Pie with Broccoli and Mash for GBP 14:00. There is an extensive and reasonably-priced wine list, including such gems as Picpoul de Pinet from the south of France for GBP 22:49 per bottle, but the Reds, Whites and Rose's are also sold by the glass in small, medium and large portions. There are a couple of 3-Pin, 240 Volt power sockets in the Public Bar and wireless internet access, although not especially fast, is free-of-charge. The bar staff are, as always, models of friendliness and helpfulness.
