We visited for a little lunch before shopping and we're really impressed with the new "lunch club" menu they have introduced! A ciabatta or wrap, fries and a drink (including wine or beer) for just £9.49! Great value for a steak wrap, fries and glass of red wine!! Other choices are available too. The customer service was excellent. Welcoming, friendly and cheerful on a grey November afternoon. We'll be back very soon. Thank you

We had a fantastic meal at the Royal Oak yesterday, we were told there might be a little wait due to only one chef being on in the kitchen, but we hardly had to wait at all and the steaks we ordered we cooked to perfection, I am very funny when it comes to having my steak cooked correctly but it was the nicest I have had in ages, considering there was a large group of us we were all very happy with our food. We did want to thank the chef personally after but did not get the opportunity to do it sadly but we will be recommending the Royal Oak and the food to everyone (a especially the Steak)

Four day's prior to our visit we booked the table with a window view only to arrive to find it was occupied, so was seated elsewhere, we waited 3/4 of an hour for our food to arrive my roast was so over cooked was unable to cut even the vegetables, my granddaughters fish fingers bounced off the plate as l tried to cut them and who puts a child's meal on a red hot plate, wish now l had brought this to the attention of the waitress, this was not an enjoyable experience for my family, such a shame as the pub is in such a lovely setting.

Ordered the chicken schnitzel and a kids chicken nuggets and chips, with the cheesy garlic and rosemary focaccia on the side. The Schnitzel was lovely, crispy outer crumb and the chicken was cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. The sauce tasted great and was a good consistency, with a generous enough serving to cover the schnitzel and have some left over to accompany the salad as well. I didn't try the kids meal but the daughter enjoyed it a lot. The focaccia was good, but let down a little by the texture. The garlic, rosemary and cheese were balanced nicely without one flavour overpowering the others, however the focaccia itself was quite hard to the point where my jaw muscles felt like they were getting a decent workout while eating. For this reason I've knocked off a star for the food, but if I could give it 4 and a half then I feel like this would be a better representation of the quality of the food. The venue itself is set in a fantastic location, right next to the waters edge and the garden is lovely with plenty of shading on a hot day. Very clean and tidy interior with friendly staff and quick service both when ordering and receiving the food.

Burgers are good, beef bourgingnon and lamb was good. The kids selection is pretty good too and good value for money. Highly recommended

Avoid: Came here 2 years ago and swore off it after waiting over 2 hours for cold, crispy food. Thought we'd try again as maybe new management but the pints were extortionate, the bar staff genuinely seem like they hate being here, slow service, somebody got overcharged for drinks and they made it really difficult for him to get a refund, we were finishing our £6 pints and the bar staff had long hidden, we got chatting to a guy for 10 minutes who ultimately (later than o would have) walked out and the toilet (would be plural but one was "shut" due to the loo being full of sick and loo roll) had a patched over hole that I tried to step on and it nearly caved in, leaving me to hurt myself trying to skirt between the door and the toilet, only to find out there was no loo roll. The other toilet had "cleaning in progress signs" that had active cobwebs on it so clearly had been there a while but was unusable. Burnt food being brought out to everyone which was a blessing as we nearly ordered food. Honestly this place is embarrassing and just relying on location: the ship Inn is about the same price but actually run like a pub and not a shanty town with miserable staff: just do yourself a favour and walk a bit further out.

Anyway arrived at the Royal Oak Langston at the time I booked 12.45 and the lady brought drinks to the table and see said sorry but there will be half a hr wait for the food we said ok 1 hr 20 mins later our food arrived only to be told they forgot to make the Yorkshire puddings. I had the chicken and pulled bacon pie but the tender stem greens were not cooked at no course were we offered any refund for items missing from our lunch and the wait for our meals I had to apologise to my wife for taking her to your pub which is such a lovely surroundings but the service is treadfull.

We were having a really lovely time until we enquired to one of the waitress about the delay and she replied that we should have been told when we ordered that there was a delay in service .then a very unfortunate scene followed where a family who were just leaving and decided to cause a scene which resulted in my partner being covered in a pint of beer by a woman ! Booked a late 14.45 spot for Sunday lunch on a busy bank holiday my birthday lunch for 5 adults. This is a lovely pub in an outstanding location and although we booked this over the more obvious Ship Inn and wanted to love it we’ve never eaten here. Arrived at 14.30 orders taken quite quickly that is about the only positive from there on in it was all downhill delivering the worst dining experience we all have ever had. Drinks took about 30 minutes to arrive. 30 minutes later all drinks downed we had to flag someone down for more drinks and still no starter over an hour in by now. No complaints to the staff though at this stage 1hour and 15 minutes later starters came we all had the prawns and chorizo well cooked and very tasty. Another 30 minutes go by you get the gist more flagging people down for drinks still no mains after 2 hours of arriving main course still not arrived. We had to ask now where is the main course. Duty Manager came over 10 mins later apologised profusely offered us 15% off for the wait and a free pudding. We weren’t really after discounts just wanted some food. Main course came 5 minutes later all roast dinners. The menu proudly proclaims all their beef is served pink. Great. Well my beef was a deadly shade of pink aka black two very small slices of black beef. Everyone else’s looked ok at least not black but definitely pink either. I still insisted to my party I didn’t want to make anymore fuss and would plough through (while in the meantime queuing at the bar for a portion of mustard and horseradish -(PLEASE NOTE ROYAL OAK STAFF you really should offer the condiments as a matter of course when the mains are served rather than have to find already overworked staff to get them while meal goes cold) returned to table 5 minutes later everyone looked crestfallen not saying anything. I poured the gravy on my roast - absolutely disgusting layer of skin had formed with gloop underneath) still ploughed on thought rather than tackle the beef would try veg first the carrots tasted nice ureka. Then got to the bullets sorry peas and thought oh no next was the roast potatoes they looked rather pale and anaemic and on closer inspection were all stuck to one another tried to slice through - the potatoes weren’t having it. The parsnips were as burnt offerings as the beef and the waitress approached and asked how everything was and then I cracked no sorry it wasnt it was all completely unacceptable inedible beef and she rushed away and came back and said that beef gets cooked like that in one piece and the ends get burnt like that(!) she was apologetic but I just gave up. The Duty Manager was by now dealing with another disgruntled table behind us. We waited for that to dissipate then called him over. To be fair to both him and the waitress they were very apologetic and didn’t treat us like idiots and agreed it was unacceptable they couldn’t really say anything else especially when I showed him how the potato would just not give. Pointed out the whole lot of our main courses had to have been sitting underneath some hot plate for at least an hour and half. He Said we would not have to pay for any food at all now (fair enough because apart from starter, I’d eaten 2 small carrots) and the 15% off still stood on the drinks bill. He dealt with the situation in the correct way. Thanks but we are quite hungry now. We are all very sanguine about the whole experience now we are home and tucking into sandwiches and crisps that’s all I’ve got in - all shops are closed (how I wish I’d booked The Ivy in Chichester) However I had to write this review to say to the pub please do not overbook/understaff/undercater your restaurant and please do not let your staff (think she was another female manager with dark hair) sit in the front of the pub happily eating her lunch while we were still waiting 2 hours later for the now infamous black burnt dry inedible roast. I bet hers didn’t taste like ours did - not fit to feed your dog, unfortunately. Drinks and view are good. Cannot recommend to dine.

Whilst on a dog walk, we were looking for somewhere for lunch and found this place. A real homely feel with signage saying they were dog friendly which for us, was awesome. We sat in the garden and spotted the special doggy menu - £2 for either 2 chicken breasts or sausages and another £2 for doggy ice cream! Love the idea and so did our dog! Staff were really friendly, approachable and helpful when ordering. Food was superb - we both ordered pie and mash and loved every bit of it and our dog was over the moon with her two courses! Mash was great, pie's were large and filled and the gravy, topped it off! Would definitely recommend and will be back again soon! Many thanks!

Did not like this pub at all , the young man behind the bar was not very welcoming nor likable , a bloody Mary was out of the question as he didn't have the ingredients! So I ordered a vodka and tomato juice and put a dash of pepper in !! I find no reason to return to this pub at all 🤨

Came in with friends for a quick stop off drink, staff were rude and not dog friendly, the attitude was awful when I asked for my drink to be replaced as it tasted flat and got an eye roll from the staff member serving us. Will not be returning the place has gone downhill

Atmosphere was incredible but food was a bit disappointing, portions were quite small. Location and a real fire going added a lot, it's got a nice feel to it.

As a native of the local area, Langstone is one of my favourite places to visit when I come “home” and the Royal Oak never disappoints. It was a quiet Tuesday after Easter but the pub still had atmosphere and the waitress (Dory I think) was attentive and friendly. I had the king prawn risotto which was really good and my friend enjoyed her pie. Desserts were just the right size for us after generous main courses. Very happy and will definitely come back again and again

In Havant for a couple of nights , this was on our shortlist. We booked because we saw the Salmon and Cheddar fish cakes , and were not disappointed they were delicious, as were our starters. Will now have to plan another visit to try the other things on the menu. Thank you, great food, great service and ambience

Friendly welcome to this pub, which is 1 of only 2 if you're at the outer reaches of Hayling Island on foot. Just popped in for a drink, beer was good, and the veiw would have been lovely from the terrace had the weather been nicer. Pay and display municipal car park if needed.

I stayed here on 9-10 Nov 2024 with my partner, going to an event nearby. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and that's where the compliments end. Because unfortunately the lovely bed was in a room that was in this hotel, which was regrettably dreadful. My expectations for the hotel were not great. But the location was ideal for our reason to stay. The hotel smells damp from the minute you embark on the trek to your room up the many stairs that flail off in different directions. Our first room smelt old and mouldy - the wardrobe was unusable because of this. My partner decided to use the bath (after a quick clean) which was all going well until she tried to stop it. The cold tap wouldn't turn off, sending us into a mild panic. I shot off an the expedition back to the reception, where I quickly interrupted the two chatting staff (still in a mild panic) to explain that we can not turn the cold water tap off in the bathroom. The response was a very serious, 'Would you like us to come and take a look?' 'Either that, or your hotel might flood, I guess!' By now, I could have quite easily cancelled my evening plans and just driven home, but they soon realised the issues and moved us to another room. The new room (49) was much more modern - 1990's I'd say compared to 1970s in the previous room. The bathroom was less mouldy and the taps worked which was a start. The wardrobe also smelt fresher. Despite being told when we checked in that our room was not near the downstairs wedding party, we were actually on the top floor directly right above it. So, when came back to the room at 11 ready for bed, the room was shaking and filled with the beat of what seemed like a rave downstairs. My partner was none to pleased to say the least and shot off back on the journey down to the reception. (If you want to get your daily steps in, this may be the hotel for you if you can cope with all the other stuff BTW). When she argued that we were told that we would be nowhere near the party, the answer was along the lines of... 'Oh no, all the rooms are either near the bar or the venue. She wouldn't have said that'. The only plus was that the party was finishing at 11.30. So, at around 11.20 the rave stopped and we had to endure a room full of party goers hammering out Angels by Robbie Williams, followed by You'll Never Walk Alone before the music stopped and the throng of people went for a loud chat outside, right beneath out window in the car park. Thank heavens for ear plugs. Needless to say, We'll Never Stay Again.
