The food was absolutely fantastic at a reasonable price, and the staff were great, service a little slow but only because they had many tables to manage. Very cute and cosy pub and would absolutely return.

Passed the pub on the way to Hayling and thought we must go and eat there so we returned a few days later … very warm welcome, food was great and atmosphere too. Parking a little difficult as it’s a popular spot, some cars were also parked too far from each other and if parked closed you can get many more in.

Great location. Great views. Atmosphere was good. Service was pretty poor. Was stood at bar on arrival for 5mins no idea where staff were? They had run out of alot of food on the menu. What we did order was ok but way over priced....no greens with the pie and no sign of cavolo Nero with the venison.....instead frozen peas!! £36 for this, you decide. Waitress went to get me some mint sauce, maybe to the local supermarket as she didn't return.

As this pub is about 1/2 a mile away, it is my ‘local’. Been here a number of times for family celebrations, morning coffee and for do’s, such as the raft race. Staff really lovely. But the best thing is the canvas tent they have erected to protect you from wind and rain so comfy to watch the tide come and go. Food ok but limited choice for me. At busy times the wait is long. Loads of people here when the weather is nice. Provides duck food and treats for doggies. Nice

Very disappointing. We've eaten here several times in the past and a nice atmosphere, the food was always great, Seems to have gone downhill a lot lately. Our last meal out was the worst we've had anywhere in a very long time. They don't seem to actually cook anything in house anymore, we spoke to the manger who confirmed that it's bought in frozen and that we weren't the first to complain. The Pie of the day was completely tasteless, the mash was cold, had a skin on it and had a very odd dry texture like smash..... The two mouthfuls of Cabbage were ok, the gravy was bland and tasted like bisto. The belly pork was a very chewy and grizzly bit of meat.. This is not a cheap meal out, in fact it's probably the most expensive locally and miniscule portions.. We won't be going back again, even Weather spoons food trumps this and it's a fraction of the price.

Lovely location, average food and very long waiting time! We waited, for a single course meal, about 1:30 hrs. We were told by the waiters about waiting time but it went above and beyond what we have been told. And we have been charged for drinks we didn’t t order … not a big deal compared to the wait! As per the food what we ordered was about average, lower in quality vs a year or so ago unfortunately (the best was the fish and chips for my children, with the gnocchi and bass being OK … chips are great so if you look for pub grub (sandwiches and burgers or fish and chips probably you get really good food … ). The car park is a pain as well, with car parked badly and limited spots as it’s used by non-clients as well. On the plus side the location is great and that’s what saves it!

On a beautiful Friday early in October I had a nice fish and chips and a pint of ale on the terras, after having enjoyed a short sail trip near Hayling Island. I had been here before during summer and gladly came back here, before heading back towards Dover to catch the ferry back home. Later that day, I was driving past London and realized that I left my coat at the terras with my passport in it. A short call to The Ship Inn, it had been found. One member of the staff, Mark, offered to drive towards me, so I did not have back all the way. We met about halfway, saving me about 2 hours of driving. Mark did not want to receive anything for this extraordinary service. Many thanks Mark! You literally went the extra mile(s) for your customer.

Fantastic location and a reasonable sized car park although at 11.30 on Monday morning the car park was full even though the pub was not. By the time we tried to order at 11.40 we were advised lunch service didn't start till noon and we couldn't pre order. When 12.00 arrived I ordered the smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich with cucumber and dill garnish served with chips. I was advised that there was no granary bread available, even though it was the start of service, so I agreed to brown bread. 30 minutes later the sandwich arrived. I wish it hadn't. The bread was stale so much so I thought perhaps it had been toasted but as the butter was not melted that could not have been the case. Then the contents...dollops of cream cheese with a few chunks of smoked salmon that was so tough it tasted like it too had been left out on a plate to air dry. 2 slices of cucumber no dill. Needless to say I left this disaster. When the waitress came to collect our plates she said everything ok, I said obviously not pointing to my uneaten food she smiled. I said that it wasn't funny and explained the problem she said oh can I get you anything else. As if. We explained we had ordered hot drinks. After waiting 15 mins, no drinks so my companion went in to query and the person behind the bar asked if she was sure she had placed the order!!? She assured the bar person she had not only placed the order but paid for it. So the order was re-placed and after a further 10 mins a young waiter appeared we called him over as he couldn't find the table, he apologised for the delay saying he was rubbish at making coffees!? He was right, my decaf latte was barely luke warm and my companion's hot chocolate likewise was not hot. If you want a good setting for a drink and you aren't in a hurry the ship is fine , if you want good food and competent service avoid like the plague.

Normally a pub has either a good location, good food or good staff. The location is worth a visit on its own. Having visited the ship with friends for lunch today the place had an abundance of all three. The first thing Caz (server) asked when we sat down was if anyone had any food allergies ! Then when we ordered drinks (cider) we were offered a sample of a new different cider. The 4 meals were great, served well, in a timely manner & were hot! Unfortunately I have to say it was disappointing, the pub itself is gorgeous and has a nice atmosphere. However the food was below par. We had Sunday roast, we waited about 40 minutes to receive the food, half the roast came out 5 minutes before the other half so we had to sit waiting whilst our food got colder. The family who had beef roasts were pleased with them but my chicken was undercooked, pink and chewy texture so I left it. The potatoes were bland as was the rest of it. It was also very expensive, for food and drinks. We didn't stay for dessert. The ferryboat inn knocks the socks off this place. Can't really comment on service as we went to the bar ourselves it wasn't table service for drinks and there wasn't much communication from servers whilst serving the food either. Didn't realise there was a service charge added to bills until I read other reviews

Edit: Since returning the following week the quality of the sandwiches decreased dramatically. Whilst the tartar sauce is still applied plenty and lovely in taste, there was substantially less fish. Furthermore the bread quality has diminished favouring thinner soggy bread over thick and dry bread. Disappointing but still OK. P.s. The squid was chewy and the batter needs work.

Not a good experience. Chips were solid and felt like they were undercooked and at the same extremely greasy. Did not finish eating. The fish was very dry. Will be finding another fish and chip shop in the area from now on especially as it seems very expensive for what you get.

Good standard of carvery food plus other options including pizza made in front of you. Lots of veg choice. Very friendly and helpful staff committed to customer satisfaction. The Stonehouse app is essential for special offers and discounts but is easy to use. Will definitely visit again and try other Stonehouse restaurants.

Great pub. It has that local pub feeling. The bar staff are chatty and welcoming. I liked it

Not the best it has to be said. Fish was slimy and just sodden of oil. Really not nice to eat. Chips average. The mushy peas and curry sauce not too bad but wow I thought the days of soggy / undercooked batter was long gone but here we are! Can’t say we’d ever go back!
