Worst food we ever had. Roasties were a disgrace. Waitress rolled her eyes at us when we had the audacity to ask for cutlery.

Lovely location, average food and very long waiting time! We waited, for a single course meal, about 1:30 hrs. We were told by the waiters about waiting time but it went above and beyond what we have been told. And we have been charged for drinks we didn’t t order … not a big deal compared to the wait! As per the food what we ordered was about average, lower in quality vs a year or so ago unfortunately (the best was the fish and chips for my children, with the gnocchi and bass being OK … chips are great so if you look for pub grub (sandwiches and burgers or fish and chips probably you get really good food … ). The car park is a pain as well, with car parked badly and limited spots as it’s used by non-clients as well. On the plus side the location is great and that’s what saves it!

On a beautiful Friday early in October I had a nice fish and chips and a pint of ale on the terras, after having enjoyed a short sail trip near Hayling Island. I had been here before during summer and gladly came back here, before heading back towards Dover to catch the ferry back home. Later that day, I was driving past London and realized that I left my coat at the terras with my passport in it. A short call to The Ship Inn, it had been found. One member of the staff, Mark, offered to drive towards me, so I did not have back all the way. We met about halfway, saving me about 2 hours of driving. Mark did not want to receive anything for this extraordinary service. Many thanks Mark! You literally went the extra mile(s) for your customer.

Fantastic location and a reasonable sized car park although at 11.30 on Monday morning the car park was full even though the pub was not. By the time we tried to order at 11.40 we were advised lunch service didn't start till noon and we couldn't pre order. When 12.00 arrived I ordered the smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich with cucumber and dill garnish served with chips. I was advised that there was no granary bread available, even though it was the start of service, so I agreed to brown bread. 30 minutes later the sandwich arrived. I wish it hadn't. The bread was stale so much so I thought perhaps it had been toasted but as the butter was not melted that could not have been the case. Then the contents...dollops of cream cheese with a few chunks of smoked salmon that was so tough it tasted like it too had been left out on a plate to air dry. 2 slices of cucumber no dill. Needless to say I left this disaster. When the waitress came to collect our plates she said everything ok, I said obviously not pointing to my uneaten food she smiled. I said that it wasn't funny and explained the problem she said oh can I get you anything else. As if. We explained we had ordered hot drinks. After waiting 15 mins, no drinks so my companion went in to query and the person behind the bar asked if she was sure she had placed the order!!? She assured the bar person she had not only placed the order but paid for it. So the order was re-placed and after a further 10 mins a young waiter appeared we called him over as he couldn't find the table, he apologised for the delay saying he was rubbish at making coffees!? He was right, my decaf latte was barely luke warm and my companion's hot chocolate likewise was not hot. If you want a good setting for a drink and you aren't in a hurry the ship is fine , if you want good food and competent service avoid like the plague.

Pub is lovely, but would pass on the food next time. Took my wife and 3 teenage sons - once the right burgers turned up (after 3 attempts) they came with mouse portions of chips and nothing else (no coleslaw, no salad). The burgers were very tasty, but had to feed my sons when we got back home. Not really the expected outcome after spending £16-£19 on each burger meal in a pub...

Normally a pub has either a good location, good food or good staff. The location is worth a visit on its own. Having visited the ship with friends for lunch today the place had an abundance of all three. The first thing Caz (server) asked when we sat down was if anyone had any food allergies ! Then when we ordered drinks (cider) we were offered a sample of a new different cider. The 4 meals were great, served well, in a timely manner & were hot! All this apparently on day they were short staffed! We shall be back. 😎

Unfortunately I have to say it was disappointing, the pub itself is gorgeous and has a nice atmosphere. However the food was below par. We had Sunday roast, we waited about 40 minutes to receive the food, half the roast came out 5 minutes before the other half so we had to sit waiting whilst our food got colder. The family who had beef roasts were pleased with them but my chicken was undercooked, pink and chewy texture so I left it. The potatoes were bland as was the rest of it. It was also very expensive, for food and drinks. We didn't stay for dessert. The ferryboat inn knocks the socks off this place. Can't really comment on service as we went to the bar ourselves it wasn't table service for drinks and there wasn't much communication from servers whilst serving the food either. Didn't realise there was a service charge added to bills until I read other reviews

The fish finger sandwiches are to die for. Staff are nice and friendly. Good beers on tap. Lovely surrounding scenery. Edit: Since returning the following week the quality of the sandwiches decreased dramatically. Whilst the tartar sauce is still applied plenty and lovely in taste, there was substantially less fish. Furthermore the bread quality has diminished favouring thinner soggy bread over thick and dry bread. Disappointing but still OK. P.s. The squid was chewy and the batter needs work.

I love sardines, so I had the "Pub Classic" oven-roasted sardines (yeah, I know - me either). Very nice. A couple of pints of London Pride (it's a Fuller's Pub) - what more could you ask for? It's not the biggest menu, but there's interesting stuff on it, and you can check the menu out on the pub website. I would happily eat there again. j

What a let down !! As always, a lovely view with a nice atmosphere and brilliant staff. Unfortunately the food was an absolute letdown. A pie of the day which I could have bought from a supermarket for quarter of the price would have been better… hardly any meat, the sauce was solid, the greens I nearly choked on multiple times and the worse… powdered mash ! You must be having a laugh to charge nearly £17 and give people that quality. Looks like I will never have food here ever again. Shocking…

However after a failed time crabbing we stayed for a drink! sat outside lovely setting for an Inn and very very popular but we luckily found a spot to park up plenty of seating outside (hadn't been inside for years and still haven't was unsure if dogs are allowed in) see the staff regularly come out to clear tables and collect glasses and food was coming out to others which looked good! Even though it's a nice location it's on a busy road (heading into Hayling island) so getting back out seemed to take forever for someone to let us out, but nether the less we will be back again and will try some food.

Appallng service from the bar staff today!. We stopped going to The ship years ago because it was just too "clicky" often serving their regulars first, happened a lot. we tried again today after a lovely long walk with our dog. The bar person served another woman before my husband, who had arrived at the bar after him. He was waiting patiently, and the bar person then asked , " Who's next?"" My husband said politely and clearly, " it's me," the bar person looked at him and immediately served someone else who had come in after my husband. We won't be returning, it looks like the staff still decide who they want to seve first! We left without ordering.
