Hard one: salmon nicoise v good. Lasagna dreadful - a cold slab of (actually juicy) shin beef ruined by thick heavy custard bechamel (?). No silky tomato sauce ( I’ve done it with a rich puttanesca and it can be delish). A bit of cold side salad an 2 slices of ciabatta Quite indigestible Chef night off? Leftovers? Fab pub but avoid this special!!!

We were staying in the local area on holiday and booked for Easter Sunday based on the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor. It didn’t disappoint. We all had the Sunday roast and it was delicious. Food was served quickly and the waiting staff were very attentive. We had the mini desserts with a hot drink for pudding and the chocolate brownie was amazing.

We had an unplanned stop here for a midweek lunch. We've not been there before so after she'd advised that you take a note of the table number and order at the bar. We had a look upstairs and found that they have the table service in that part. Service was quick and friendly. I was a bit disappointed that there was only one vegetarian option on the main menu (apart from a salad). We asked if there was a vegetarian menu and was informed there wasn't. So although we had a good time, I don't think we'll return soon due to the lack of choice for vegetarians.

Walked in on a busy Saturday, and there was no one to greet us at the door. Had to approach the bar and ask if there were any tables available for food. She said there were no tables upstairs, but we could sit anywhere downstairs. After walking around and looking for a suitable table, the waitress then told me that there was a table available upstairs in the restaurant. We ordered Pie and Mash, it was very basic but I guess it's supposed to be a basic meal so no complaints. Nice view of the sea & boats depending on where you are seated.

Beautiful old public house in a beauty spot with a view of Langstone Harbor. Whether the tide is in or out it's a stunning location. Amazing place for lunch, or a beer outside in the sun. Great selection of drink. The staff are an absolute delight. Perfect for a cosy elevated meal experience indoors. Great vegan/ vegetarian/ fish options and the staff go above and beyond to offer a great experience. Very accommodating staff with excellent customer service. Parking is plentiful and the location is easily accessible from the M3, A27, and especially Hayling Island.

Wow - this was hands down the most incredible roast we have ever experienced by a mile - the flavours were out of this world & all cooked to perfection. Every mouthful was a pure delight & not one weak item in the whole dish. Everything from the gravy to the meat & all the trimmings. My partner had the beef & I had the chicken. We were in food heaven & had a delicious glass of Malbec to go with it, could not be more pleased & have decided we’re only going to go here for a roast from now on as after that anywhere else would definitely feel disappointing. For £7.50 on day 1, I got a sausage bap with 2 sausages and a nice chat with a professional barman called Phil.. Day 2 .. Phil wasn't working😔 There was only one sausage and a ' sorry about that'. When asking the polite, young waiter. He told me that the chef said that 'the single sausage was standard.' It would be nice to see some empowerment as part of Fuller's young staff training, consistency and value for money might also be an attractive offer too. ... day 3 ? (Not sure there will be one) ... I had invited 3 friends for breakfast with me . Sadly 'the sausage bap saga' became a topic of conversation among our group of corporate trainers... Below-par customer service does (still) have a knock effect .. ignore it and join the long line of low quality chains or up your game and make life better for all involved 🙏

The ship was recommended to us, so we expected great things, we unfortunately left underwhelmed & disappointed. On a Saturday evening at 6.30 we were seated upstairs in the restaurant which was really cold. We ordered our starter, after a few minutes the waitress came back & informed us it was sold out, we chose another, again after a few minutes we had the same issue, the staff should know what's sold out before taking orders. The venison was good. The coq au vin came without any 'veg' and the bread & butter was thin rubbery cheap white bread, which couldn't be buttered and tore immediately, at £24 it was disappointing. The Bakewell pudding also lacked enough classic flavour. Overall it was an ok meal, but for 2 people, only one starter, one of us drank 2 alcoholic drinks, 1 soft drink it came to £91.... Sorry to say but Ive had better and cheaper elsewhere locally.

However Langstone harbour were more than accommodating. They upgraded us to suit all. Infact they could not help us more. The staff were amazing and to be honest it was nice talking to human beings rather than an automated telephone selection. Andy was the best and actually every staff member we came across the whole evening were amazing. They looked after us second to none. Very disappointing. We've eaten here several times in the past and a nice atmosphere, the food was always great, Seems to have gone downhill a lot lately. Our last meal out was the worst we've had anywhere in a very long time. They don't seem to actually cook anything in house anymore, we spoke to the manger who confirmed that it's bought in frozen and that we weren't the first to complain. The Pie of the day was completely tasteless, the mash was cold, had a skin on it and had a very odd dry texture like smash..... The two mouthfuls of Cabbage were ok, the gravy was bland and tasted like bisto. The belly pork was a very chewy and grizzly bit of meat.. This is not a cheap meal out, in fact it's probably the most expensive locally and miniscule portions.. We won't be going back again, even Weather spoons food trumps this and it's a fraction of the price.

As per the food what we ordered was about average, lower in quality vs a year or so ago unfortunately (the best was the fish and chips for my children, with the gnocchi and bass being OK … chips are great so if you look for pub grub (sandwiches and burgers or fish and chips probably you get really good food … ). The car park is a pain as well, with car parked badly and limited spots as it’s used by non-clients as well. On the plus side the location is great and that’s what saves it!

I had been here before during summer and gladly came back here, before heading back towards Dover to catch the ferry back home. Later that day, I was driving past London and realized that I left my coat at the terras with my passport in it. A short call to The Ship Inn, it had been found. One member of the staff, Mark, offered to drive towards me, so I did not have back all the way. We met about halfway, saving me about 2 hours of driving. Fantastic location and a reasonable sized car park although at 11.30 on Monday morning the car park was full even though the pub was not. By the time we tried to order at 11.40 we were advised lunch service didn't start till noon and we couldn't pre order. When 12.00 arrived I ordered the smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich with cucumber and dill garnish served with chips. I was advised that there was no granary bread available, even though it was the start of service, so I agreed to brown bread. 30 minutes later the sandwich arrived. I wish it hadn't. The bread was stale so much so I thought perhaps it had been toasted but as the butter was not melted that could not have been the case. Then the contents...dollops of cream cheese with a few chunks of smoked salmon that was so tough it tasted like it too had been left out on a plate to air dry. 2 slices of cucumber no dill. Needless to say I left this disaster. When the waitress came to collect our plates she said everything ok, I said obviously not pointing to my uneaten food she smiled. I said that it wasn't funny and explained the problem she said oh can I get you anything else. As if. We explained we had ordered hot drinks. After waiting 15 mins, no drinks so my companion went in to query and the person behind the bar asked if she was sure she had placed the order!!? She assured the bar person she had not only placed the order but paid for it. So the order was re-placed and after a further 10 mins a young waiter appeared we called him over as he couldn't find the table, he apologised for the delay saying he was rubbish at making coffees!? He was right, my decaf latte was barely luke warm and my companion's hot chocolate likewise was not hot. If you want a good setting for a drink and you aren't in a hurry the ship is fine , if you want good food and competent service avoid like the plague.

Unfortunately the food didn't match the beautiful view. We ordered a burger and a ciabatta sandwich. The burger was Luke warm and a bit soggy and the ciabatta was rock hard(inedible). We were waiting for the staff to check how the food was, they didn't approach the table until we had left. Would not recommend 😕

A 50 minute wait for a dinner for 2 on a Monday night to eventually be treated with canteen food! Very poor quality and even worse value! These meals were clearly put together by someone who has had basic training. In contrast the staff were very welcoming & lovely plus the atmosphere was decent!

Good location very pretty. Young team took a while to get served as team were talking about when they finish. But they are all young can understand why

We had one of the best fish suppers. Beer battered haddock and chips was well cooked, fresh tasting and a good size. The tartare sauce was thick and creamy and we loved the crushed minted peas Staff were friendly and the service was really good. Lovely views out towards Hayling Island. Would definitely recommend.

Well where do I start.....! We ordered 2 adult vegan meals, 1 children's vegan meal, 1 adults burger meal and 1 meat free carvery. The meat free option at the carvery was 2 yorkshire puddings (?) It was all only luke-warm and very bland. The vegan burgers arrived with bacon in them. We sent them back and were told that it would be another 15 minutes to get fresh burgers. The children's meal was left on the counter and not brought over so we collected it ourselves. When the fresh vegan burgers arrived they were served with a side on coleslaw in mayonnaise. At the end of our meal we had to go and ask for the children's ice lolly which took another 10 mins to arrive. It wasn't particularly busy time as there were lots of empty tables. This was very disappointing as we had had a very nice meal there 2 days before. I will not be returning!

The Bear Hotel, situated on the north side of East Street a stone's throw from the centre of this red-brick Georgian settlement - made prosperous by the sale of Parchment and Watercress - is probably the most distinguished and historic place to eat, drink and spend the night in the south Hampshire market town of Havant. Indeed, none other than His Grace the First Duke of Wellington, victor of the Battle of Waterloo, stayed here in 1820 when he visited Havant in order to open the first permanent wooden bridge which linked nearby Hayling Island to the rest of England. The large entrance from what was once the main trunk road linking Southampton to Dover, and the extensive back yard (now used for car parking) confirm that The Bear is the sole survivor of Havant's two, 18th Century Coaching Inns, the other - The Antelope - having been demolished to make way for a dull, 1960's shopping precinct. The Bear is a dog-friendly, 42-bedroom hotel owned by the Greene King Inns pub chain. Their usual range of draught and bottled beers (including my personal favourite, Old Speckled Hen) are on offer in the cosy public bar,, where a roaring log fire welcomes visitors during the colder months of the year. The Dinner Menu includes such old favourites as Slow-Cooked Lamb Shank with Buttered Mash (or even Chips!) for GBP 20:50, or - if you prefer - Beef and Ale Pie with Broccoli and Mash for GBP 14:00. There is an extensive and reasonably-priced wine list, including such gems as Picpoul de Pinet from the south of France for GBP 22:49 per bottle, but the Reds, Whites and Rose's are also sold by the glass in small, medium and large portions. There are a couple of 3-Pin, 240 Volt power sockets in the Public Bar and wireless internet access, although not especially fast, is free-of-charge. The bar staff are, as always, models of friendliness and helpfulness.

Sunny lunchtime so we sat in the garden. Hanging baskets had dried up remains of flowers in them, similarly the pots which have been planted but not watered so everything has died. Everywhere, inside and out looks sad.
