We booked a table for 4 on a Sunday afternoon for 4pm. We arrived slightly late due to local traffic and were seated at 4.15. Despite ordering drinks on arrival , by 4.45pm there had still not arrived. When they did arrive, the waiter then stated "let me start by telling you what is not available". On Sunday's, the Anchor has a special Sunday menu mainly consisting of Sunday roast options. Despite advertising Beef, Chicken and Pork roast options, we were told that there was no Pork or Chicken left and only enough beef for 3 people. We ordered two beef and two Hake options. The beef dishes arrived fairly quickly but we were then left embarrassed as the two hake options failed to arrive. This left two of my party have to start their meals before all guests had their food. We were given the excuse that the restaurant had been busy. This is not acceptable. Management must have been able to foresee that on a Sunday during half term and with the weather good, it was likely that they would be busy. If you are not going to be able to cope when it is busy then close the restaurant in the afternoon or at least provide a warning to customers when booking on line that late afternoon bookings are likely to receive a limited service. This was a family birthday lunch and very disappointing. The only saving grace was our waiter who was working very hard. It was clear that the restaurant was understaffed as he was trying to look after about 15 tables! I will not be returning.

Drove down from Lancashire to take my daughter in-law for a birthday meal. It was very busy so service was slow , I had the goats cheese, Chicken Ceasar salad and Cinnamon Cheesecake. My dad had his usual soup followed by ice-cream. My husband had the goats cheese, pork Sunday roast, Apple pie and custard. My son and his girlfriend had Bake camanbert to share, beef Sunday roast and the Cinnamon Cheesecake with ice-cream. We all enjoyed our meals but I was a little disappointed that I couldn't have cream instead of ice-cream with my Cheesecake

Honestly the most gorgeous setting. I never make complaints but the manager was the rudest woman i have ever been served by in a pub. We all had mains, lots of drinks (which you would think would mean friendly, good service.) But it literally ruined my partners birthday meal, ended up leaving early as the nasty stares and comments made it a pretty bad environment. The only good thing about this pub minus the setting was the barman/waiter, who was the friendliest person there! Won’t be going back, will find somewhere else by the river even if it’s not as nice.

I've been going to the anchor for 20+ years. The car park has always been free. They've outsourced the parking management to a faceless profiteering company. They did not communicate these changes clearly. Yes there are some signs but it feels like they intentionally didn't draw too much attention to it so they can catch people out. Got £100 parking fine. Will not be going back to the anchor until the system is changed. Put a barrier on your car park if you need to, but don't do it this sly way.

Family of 4 visited for Sunday lunch. We were seated next to a large table with lots of very noisy children! We all ordered the Sunday roast. Only choice is beef, cooked pink, or veggie. Staff were friendly but very young and need more training. Slow to take order and lacked knowledge of menu. 2 draught beers arrived but waitress didn’t know which was which. Or what they were! Roast beef was very tough and almost inedible, even though we asked for 2 well done. Good sized portion though and lots of well cooked veg. Coffee arrived but didn’t Know if this was latte or cappuccino. Recommend they invest more time in staff training to improve the guest experience. We won’t be rushing back.

The anchor has improved a lot over time, I've been passing it a few times and years ago this place was absolutely terrible. The food is now a lot better and service seems good all around too. The fish and chips especially taste very good. The let down is the price, all things considered they're charging restaurant prices for what's essentially just classic pub food at a good quality. Overall a solid place to eat after a nice walk down the canal next to it, but don't be surprised if the bill is higher than expected

Visited having booked online and was greeted by a surly woman who looked uninterested. When she showed us to a table which was right in the corner she huffed and puffed when we asked whether we could sit outside. Despite the website saying breakfast is served until 12 - it wasn’t. She told us that they hadn’t been serving breakfast today, which was quite strange as people were finishing theirs. We’re told that we could have lunch from 11:45. So I ordered a couple of drinks at 11:40 ish and asked if I could order food while I was there at the till. No. Went back 5 mins later and ordered it, a burger and a toasted sandwich. It was plonked on the table by another surly member of staff, no cutlery, napkins or offers of ketchup or anything. The burger looked Ok but the meat was like supermarket value frozen burger. The toasted sandwich was better. The location is the only thing that saves this pub. Outside with a drink is nice. But food, service and attitude is just shocking.

The Anchor is set in an idyllic location (even in the chill of early March) on the side of the canal/river, and the inside is just as pretty as the outside tables. The menu range was good, lots of choice, and the pricing reasonable - but I suggest you try either of the two pies (one steak & ale the other fish) as they were both amazing!! All the staff were friendly and polite and made our late lunch a pleasure for the entire family. We will be back!

Really poor and slow service and a very cramped table Unable to move our chairs due to being next to the fire and the other side of the table was a rack with fire extinguishers also there was a small table with arm chairs that was so close it was claustrophobic As one our group was in a wheelchair it was not convenient to move tables once we were all seated Although the restaurant was not that busy the service was very poor we had to serve our self with water and go to the bar to order our drinks After taking our order the waitress returned to tell us that the fish pie was not available but we had to request to see the menu to reorder The whole experience was not up to the normal standard we expect from the Anchor however when the food did eventually arrive it was fine

Me and my husband were looking forward to coming to the Anchor for Sunday lunch. Sadly our roast beef was not edible. Very tough. Yorkshires, veg and gravy nice. We were offered 15 percent off the total bill and a free hot drink. But still a lot of money for a Yorkshire pudding veg and gravy. Speaking of pudding, we didn’t want to stay for dessert so cannot comment on those. Overall a very disappointing visit. Came away feeling very disappointed and hungry. Setting is lovely though. I can see it being a great place to sit outside in the warmer months with a pint in hand. But would avoid the food.

Had high hopes for a good family lunch after a lovely morning at Wisley Gardens, great parking, lovely setting, sadly that is where the good stuff ends. From the moment we set foot through the doors it was a disaster! 2 staff on welcome desk, both on the phone, so no greeting, not even a nod in our direction, so we stood there waiting to eventually be seated by a young lad that looked as though he would rather have been anywhere but greeting us. In all fairness we got a lovely table by the window and were given menus. After 10 minutes and no one asking us if we wanted a drink let alone to order, husband decided to go to bar to order drinks, looking forward to the ales he saw on tap as we entered. Sadly both ales were not available, no matter, we ordered a different 2 beers and a glass of wine, paid our 20quid and returned to table with drinks. 20mins in and still no sign of anyone coming near our table, we managed to attract the waitress and order, no mention of the long wait that was to come. 10 mins later our 1 small starter arrived and was devoured in 5 mins. 45 mins later reminded waitress that we were still waiting. 1hr in reminded waitress again that we were still waiting 1hr 15m in we asked to see the manager. 1hr 30 mins in we finally received our very mediocre meals. Not once in the whole time we were there did anyone ask us if we wanted a drink, we were extremely dissappointed and after telling the manager we were not paying for any of the food she accepted this and we left, never to return. All around us it was carnage, one table got wrong drinks, another table sitting for over half an hour with dirty plates on table, another table sat for 30 mins with coats and hats on, card in hand waiting for waitress to approach them to pay. The whole set up is a disaster and staff training is badly needed. With over 500 poor or terrible reviews surely the management can clearly see the need for a shake-up.

We are regular visitors to this pub as it is on our dog walk so makes the perfect stop for a cuppa and a slice of cake. On this particular occasion, we were met at the door by a gentleman named Colin who welcomed us in from the torrential rain outside along with our very wet golden retriever. He told us to take a seat and said he'd bring over whatever we would like. I said I'd have a slice of lemon cake if they had any with my coffee but unfortunately it turned out to be carrot cake on the counter. As it's not my favourite I declined, Colin then said he'd see if there was any lemon cake in the kitchen and went off to look and came back with a whole cake . He brought it over along with our coffees. What Colin didn't realise at the time, was that it was my birthday and he'd just gone above and beyond to make my very wet and soggy birthday morning extra special. Sometimes it's the little thoughtful gestures like that which can turn someone's day around. Thank you Colin. Colin is a credit to your team and is also amazing with dogs too. (I will be back for the rest of the lemon cake soon Colin 😊)

Eight of us met for a reunion meal. It was a sunny day and the pub was very busy. The staff were young and inexperienced, either getting things wrong or having to be reminded eg jug of water for the table. My husband and I both had the roast beef Sunday lunch but it was mediocre with tough stringy beef and soggy roast potatoes. On the plus side the apple tart was delicious! I appreciate it must have been hard for the kitchen to keep up with the demand but the main course was a let down. The pub has a wonderful position and you can walk along the river towpath from there. It might be better to visit weekdays when perhaps it is quieter.

Had a lovely lunch here on a weekday. Table booked in advance as there were 11 of us. Sat inside in the cool but still with views over the water. Service was good especially by Oliver who was more than helpful and very attentive and...

A popular riverside pub with comfortable and ample outside seating with big parasols if needed on a sunny day. I imagine it’s busy on a sunny weekend but we had quick service for choice of beers and tasty meals. A delightful impromptu lunchtime visit as...

The pub has a lovely location but we did not enjoy our lunch. I did not like having to stand in a long queue at the bar to place our food order. Why cant they have table service? The food arrived in good time but...

Hadn’t been since pre Covid. Place had a reputation for slow service then. Sadly no improvement. Started with a waiter rushing a drinks order and walking off before taking every persons order. Food took over an hour and when chased has ‘lost’ our ticket. An...

Our order was taken and we received our drinks in about 5 minutes. However we waited nearly an hour for our meals. We did complain to our server but nothing was done about it. If we had been told out of common courtesy, that there...

This is a pub in a lovely location and it relies heavily on that, the bar staff are great the food is your average pub style food, although as it’s a hall and woodhouse you do get an actual pie when you order one and...

The pub is in a lovely spot by the Wey navigation at Pyrford Lock and the inside and outside are very nice. You can sit on the various terraces outside and watch the narrowboats go past and the canoeists and paddle boarders enjoying themselves. However,...

Great spot and therefore very busy, so service inevitably slow. Menu offered 'steak frites, a flat iron steak chargrilled'. This should be half a centimetre thick and cooked quickly; instead it was an inch thick and undercooked. I returned it for more cooking and it...

This pub/restaurant has significantly gone downhill. The menu is much smaller and even then there were dishes that were unavailable. We had to wait ages for our food to be delivered to our table. It certainly could have been hotter. In our opinion the meals...

We enjoyed ciabatta and prawn sandwiches . Chips good too. Coffee fine , Understaffed cafe but service ok plus. Quite good quality. Popular place. Plenty of parking caused us to dine at Squires rather than a Woking town restaurant.

The young barista was friendly and very efficient. The latte and blueberry muffin were superb!

Kids running it and swearing too busy speaking about their personal life. And lack of smiley face and food was just slummed in the boxes no effort what so ever! Bad all over!
