The best restaurants serving British food in London

Sadly, as I was a reasonably frequent Balans guest, I am compelled to write a bad review. Cocktails were fabulicios, but alas, that is where the fabulous ended. The menu seems reduced, so we picked bites and sides; croquettes, mac cheese, chicken strips and skin on chips. These I sum up as cold, cold, burned and old. We watched the burned chicken, croquettes and chips in the windows for at least 15 minutes so they were stone cold, even the dishes, when we eventually persuaded the hard pushed waiter to bring g them to us. The chicken was black in places; however, the most inexcusable was the chips. No skin and very old. When I say old, the potatoes had clearly been cooked once and left for a day or two to go grey and powdery. Whether they were fried again on the day I do not know as they too, were cold. All in all, for £127, we had six cocktails and the disappointment of having to order a pizza when we got home. Really disappointing, as Balans used to he a bit if a staple of mine and only ten minutes away. Sorry, Balans, once loved, but from now on forgotten. I recommend the Bull next door feom now on.

If i could give this club 0 stars i would, it doesnt even deserve the one star just for me to leave a review! I dont usually leave ratings unless something has really bothered me. Me, my sister and my friend decided to go out for Easter Sunday to let our hair down, none of us had seen each other for a long time. When we got to the club, my friend went over politely to let the Secruity thats doing ID Checks know that she completely forgot her ID BUT she has it on her phone AND the two of us had our ID also. The Secruity man turnt round and said “ No i’m not letting you in but if you came in with men i would of let you in” so he was being sexist because if we had a couple guys with us he would of let her in?? Even after that nasty comment We tried asking him very nicely if theres anyway at all he could let us in he said no. So we walked away and my friend said it was fine for us to go in she will just go home. We felt so bad for her, but i knew of the organisor and wanted to see if he could do anything so i said to her to wait in the car, i will let you know if theres anything he can do. Me and my sister then went back again (bearing in minds we had our ID) and then the same secruity guy said to us “ Oh so you left your little friend” and started to laugh! So at this point i personally was not laughing with him and the comment was uncalled for. I didnt respond to him so all i said was “ Heres my ID” he turnt round and said “i dont like your attitude”! I said “What attitude, i just said heres my ID”. He turnt round and said “yeah you aint getting in”!. I actually couldnt believe it ive never in my time of going to clubs have ever been turnt away from the doors because of my “ Attitude” after he was the one that made a uncalled for comment about my friend. So he then turnt to my sister and told her that she can go in. My sister was confused she was like “ but im by myself, i dont go parties without my sister” He said yeah thats fine i dont care. I told my sister to just go in quickly and look for the organisor of the party that knew me. My sister even said to the secruity “so your actually not going to let my sister in, and let me go by myself in the club” He turnt round and said “ am i sensing attitude also”! My sister just didnt say anything and long story short he let her in by herself and she was the youngest one without me! (Organisor was not there and we left to go home) I have never received such terrible and disgusting treatment. That Secruity guys behaviour was shocking! And i will make sure i will leave a review about this place on every platform! Please please dont go here, i will never step back foot in this club again! I work hard and so does the people i came with to be spoken to like we was nothing! Theres other clubs in croydon. We also paid £11 for this event for this guy with no actual training to be on the door or trained on how to speak to people to just turn us away. Dice you really need to pick your staff wisely thats representing you, he has massively let your club down, its the fact that he used being on the door to make himself look bigger than what he was! He is a let down to Dice and i only wish i had his name so i can let everyone know. Please do not waste your time and go here! I have a very large following so ill be warning others also. I now have the trouble to try and get our tickets refunded!

Horrible como menú muy reducido y los gerentes y el personal parecen infelices. El área de vinos ahora se hace cargo de la mejor parte del restaurante. Ambiente desagradable e incluso el área de degustación tiene artículos que dicen que no para la degustación... parece una reducción de costos. El restaurante solía estar lleno, pero ahora un cuarto lleno desde hace tres meses. Necesita mejoras y una mejor gestión.

By far the worst steak I've ever had the pleasure of. Tuesday is steak night with the allocated menu provided for this "event". The steaks are the same as the menu just a tiny bit cheaper and for £11.50 I got a grisly chewy, medium rare piece of crop and a handful of chips....no additional accoutrements. Very disappointed, sort your steaks out JDW

Was in London for a Business Charity meet up. Popped on Friday as P&J is always my “local” when working in London. Had some food and a drink - great meal - pie chips and veg / awesome and gravy was 5* Then returned out of work time on Saturday to be treated by thousands (I think) of Crystal Palace fans outside on Market Square. Went inside for a drink expecting a long wait but not the case. The manager serving constantly and the rat of the bar staff were in control and there really no wait I was so impressed based on the amount of people in and out. We needed a local venue to hold a wake for 40 people and The Cuckfield did a fantastic job. We went for the gold buffet and the food was outstanding, it just kept coming out of the kitchen hot and fresh. Everyone was so impressed not just with the food but with the warm welcome from the entire team. We were also lucky with the weather and after a while were able to sit in the fabulous garden. Lawrence in particular was extremely helpful and attentive ensuring everything went smoothly. I would highly recommend using the beautiful conservatory for an event and would like to express my thanks to Lawrence and the team for making our guests feel welcome and looked after.

Delicious Sunday lunch, beautiful garden and friendly staff. It gets busy on a sunny day but food is worth the wait, reasonable prices and staff was very helpful. I chose the sunday sharing platter. What an amazing idea! Will definitely be back, you got to try cauliflower tart. It's super yummy!

Sadly I have to leave this negative review. The food was bland and the fish and chips was so bad I returned it. The fish was burnt almost to a crisp I was surprised they even served it. The replacement fish was also burnt but maybe a little less so. I accepted it but with hindsight should have rejected it and asked for my money back. I complained to management and got an apology but no offer of money off. Unfortunate as on my previous visits the experience was positive but I don’t know if I will return after this.

The food is very nasty and burnt to the crisps left a very bad taste in my mouth waste of money I just can't not eat in here anymore I try a few else Ware and just has bad they can't not cook I just come in for a drink and no more

Eight of us visited yesterday (April 29th), the staff were excellent, when we arrived we were told that we were in the restaurant area which is up four stairs, my heart sank as I am disabled with a walker, I needn’t have worried as a member of staff helped me up and back down again, she took our orders and payment at the table. My complaint is the food, three of us ordered char grilled chicken breast, when it came it wasn’t char grilled it was more like cremated, the edges were so burnt and the middle was tough because it was so over cooked. I ordered gravy with it but it was so thin that it looked like coloured water, the desert wasn’t much better either!

Low quality mass market pastries and adequate coffee. As disappointing as it is pretentious.
