We have been here many times over the years and looked forward to our visit again this year. What a disappointment. We had a cream tea which consisted of a pot of tea, 2 scones, butter, cream and jam. The jam and cream pots were half the size they used to be and the butter was barely there, adequate enough for one scone but certainly not two. The jug of milk supplied did not have enough milk for one cup of tea and we had to ask for extra. I do not drink tea and asked for my tea to be substituted with coffee, big mistake, it was undrinkable. Went we went to pay we were told 'cash only' and I was lucky to find some cash in the bottom of my bag. This should be made clear when you enter and before you order as a lot of people do not carry cash. Our experience was so different to every other visit we wondered if there were 'new owners' but overheard the owner telling other visitors that she had been there 17 years. Sadly will not be returning.

Food was amazing. Top notch. However the service started off well but got worse during the evening. Waitress staff didn’t seem particularly concerned with the restaurant side and seemed more intent on talking at the bar. I had to check up on the order of desserts with the kitchen staff as it was taking slightly longer but no waitress was available. When the desserts came I’m not sure what happened in the bathroom but there was an overwhelming smell of faeces that wafted into the whole restaurant area which destroyed the experience of a very good dessert. (Other people were holding their noses as well). The smell lasted a good 10 mins. When it came to paying the bill the waitress brought over the receipt then went to get the card machine and then didn’t return for 5 mins and again I had to get up and get her attention to bring over the machine. This waitress had a bad attitude and was not really fit for a customer facing role; even rolled her eyes at me when I was requesting the card machine.

A cracking local pub, situated in the heart of the town, in a perfect location. We stumbled across the Royal Oak, looking for somewhere to eat, prior to watching Garstang FC v Droylsden FC. Great find ! Customer service was excellent. ✅ Food was great. 👍 Price was as expected 💰 All in all….. 10/10. 🌟 Will definitely return. FYI, Droylsden won 3-1. ⚽️

I ordered a gluten free pasty for lunch today and the pastry was awful, rubbery and slimy in its plastic bag. (I know it has to be wrapped like this to avoid cross contamination). Not much can be done about that, but I don't know where you buy them in from but please find another supplier. I always get a lovely gluten free pasty from Rowes in Falmouth and Sarah's Pasties in Looe where the gluten free pastry is top notch. Sorry to complain, your normal pasties are delicious, I used to eat them years ago and my husband still enjoys them, but please, stop these awful rubbery gluten-free things.

Danish pastry completely sealed in plastic. It was really awful so checked packaging. They make them and seal them for a 3 day shelf life, so no fresh bakery produce here, you are as well with a mass-produced supermarket one. Checking the ingredients, they aren't even Danish pastry ingredients. The "superdough" part of the ingredients was just a chemical filled anomaly of things that shouldn't be there. That is not a Danish Pastry. And why all those unnecessary ingredients in the icing? Icing sugar and water would suffice. Interestingly, there is no flour listed on the ingredients for the superdough so I doubt it is a legal list. That is quite a serious omission! I attach a photo of the ingredients list. Philps comment is that they do mention flour later under possible allergens
