Food was excellent great atmosphere and far too much for us to finish but I tried. My youngest said it’s the best meal she’s ever had ( better not tell the wife).

Ordered a Sunday lunch to take away.. very very popular with eating in & take away. Book, order essential we were told & can see why. Excellent landlady, order drink once, remembered thereafter.. traditional old fashioned pub vibe 👌 Food was excellent & plenty if it.

An amazing roast and extremely reasonable. The roast beef was cooked to perfection and filled the plate. Separate dishes of vegetables and potatoes, and piping hot. Staff very pleasant and nothing too much trouble.

A great pub for a Sunday Lunch! The barmaid / owner was very friendly and helpful. The Sunday roast was delicious and there was so much food we had some left over to take away. The service was quick, friendly and the staff here take real pride in what they do. Highly recommended !! Many thanks!!

Superb Sunday roast. We had a take away Sunday roast. It was boiling hot and absolutely gorgeous. Massive potions I could finish mine. We had the roast beef and nut roast. It came with an abundance of veg, carrots, peas, Swede, leeks, the best roasties and Yorkshire’s pudding. Amazing. Will definitely be ordering again. All this for £8.50. Bargain!

Seven of us visited for the curry evening, that wasn't purely curry but a wide variety of meals. Five of our group chose the Chicken Korma and the other two chose the Thai Chicken Curry. We had a huge pile of poppadoms and the most delicious meal. All for £5. What a bargain! The pub was toasty warm on a cold winter's evening and the service brilliant. Fantastic value.

Food is very good quality and the service is above average. Just the place to take friends and family and just relax. I have been there several times and I am planning to visit there again in a couple of weeks time.

A group of 13 of us (including young children) had lunch here and we were lucky enough to get a booking for so many with not too much notice. They sat us in the back room (private) with a nice fire on the go. The food was very good and very affordable indeed. The children ate very well. The staff were very friendly and the variety of drinks was very good. For price, taste and vibe alone I wouldn't hesitate in including The Torrington Arms on any future trip to Great Torrington around lunchtime, especially after a walk. If you are travelling in a large group I would advise on booking in advance and they may well want food choices upfront as they did with us.

We needed somewhere to watch a football match and found this pub and they reserved us a table near the television in their back room. Greeted by the friendly staff, we ordered from a varied menu and were served quickly with some delicious food. The lasagne was amazing and the burger really tasty. Accompanied by large bowls of chips the meal was great. We had a lovely evening and even better, the result of the football went the right way too! Definitely worth a visit!!

On a cycle ride around Devon we found this place for an evening meal. Astonishingly cheap beer and good inexpensive food was made even better by taking part in the pub quiz.

A most welcome break from the usual commercial food. It is a delightful town pub of some age unlike the food which is fresh and tasty. Rarely have I been beaten by a meal. The starters are delicious and the size of most pubs mains the mains are enormous with fresh veg and spuds or chips put on a stone at one sitting. Beautiful steak and ale pie that would feed two rugby players but was so rich tender and unctious I ate it all. Worth every penny of the reasonable prices. Well done Torrington Arms look forward to seeing you again.

We return time and time again to this pub for a decent lunch, and Sunday lunches are the cheapest and best value for money in Town. Three choices of Meat, plus six different vegetables and the roast potatoes are to die for.

As titled, probably our third or fourth visit, for Sunday lunch at this local pub.Our visit this time was completely out of the blue, having guests for the weekend we then decided to call into the Torrington Arms for a Sunday lunch without pre-booking. Our party of five were greeted warmly by the friendly staff,as usual, managing to sit in the bar area next to the fire, which was nice on a very wet and miserable day.The roast meals were terrific, especially the "roasties", with only praise from our guests, possibly overlarge portions bought to the table by the amiable staff,in uniform, the portions were large, however this problem was solved by the offer of "doggy boxes" after our meal and accepted gratefully, without any embarrassment.Externally the pub is not much to look at but inside a warm and comforting ambience more than made up for that, Will we visit and take guest again... too right ! Value for money rating 100% .

It seems restaurants that look good on the outside serve rubbish food, and places that look shabby on the outside have the best food. This is certainly true for the Torrington Arms. The food was superb. The chips were similar to triple cooked ones. The scampi was cooked to perfection, along with a nice side salad. The triple patty burger was again cooked to perfection. The kids had ham egg and chips and a cheeseburger and chips, you get twice as much ham as at most places and it was delicious, and all served with a salad. We are a pudding family and none of us had room for pudding afterwards, the portions are huge and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be back.

This was our third meal in Torrington, and the most enjoyable in terms of the food and the ambience, which was a lively local with plenty of customers, football in the background and a hen party dressed as golfers! The food was all very well prepared and arrived in great quantity. My partner had a steak and ale pie, which was sweet and succulent, with tender meat. It came with lovely sauteed new potatoes, or maybe they were 'cracked', which i think is done in the oven. Anyway, lovely, plus freshly cooked cauliflower, carrots and peas. I had salmon in a cream and tarragon sauce. The salmon wasn't quite as tender as I like it, but it was a very satisfying and tasty meal, plus perfectly cooked new potatoes. We also had a side salad, for £1.95, which was incredibly good value. It featured frisee lettuce, my favourite, plus carefully diced onion and tomato, with an oil dressing. We couldn't manage everything, but greatly enjoyed ourselves.

Small, very friendly Pub in Great Torrington. We had an excellent Sunday Lunch while on holiday. Traditional Roast with all the trimmings and so much of it I had to ask my husband to stop eating. The serving dishes just kept arriving. So many fresh vegetables and yummy roast potatoes. No room left for a pudding. Excellent value for money.

I visited the Torrington Arms in January 2015 following a game of football in the town.Despite being busy at the time, the service I received from the staff serving drinks behind the bar and serving food was very good. I did find the price of their lime & soda (£2.50 a pint) really expensive though. To eat we all had pasta bolognese and we could help ourselves to both cheddar and parmesan toppings. The food was very nice and the parmesan excellent.Despite the prices of the drinks being quite high, the food and service was great during my visit.

What a little Gem of a find… after walking all day I went here for a drink and some food to find they were doing roast in the evening was a bonus. It was so delicious as well one of the best roasts I’ve had in a while. The fire was lit, the staff were lovely and they had a live singer who was incredible. Couldn’t have got more perfect. Thank you 😊 Defo a visit needed if in the area
