Fantastic pub, great atmosphere. The staff were very welcoming and the food was really good. All four of us opted for pies with mash and veg. The pies are cooked to order but well worth the wait. The pub is dog friendly too.

Both the food and service were excellent. My husband had gammon, and said it was the best he had ever had. The waitress was very friendly and asked us several times how our meals were. We will definitely visit again next time we are in this area.

Visited the Cyder Presse twice when staying in a holiday let in Weare Gifford, ate with family on a Friday evening, and also had a Sunday roast, the food was lovely and the owners are lovely to. Things I noted; lovely food, quick service, nice friendly atmosphere in the pub, friendly locals. Very relaxed place to eat, the landlady was very nice and funny, and her husband was a true gentleman.

Another gem of a local Inn. Made very welcome and tried a beer new to me, Clearwater brewery, Eric's ESB. The food and service was excellent. Great to order a pie that is not in a dish and cooked to order. Beautifully cooked vegetables and chips. Well worth a visit and highly recommended. Advisable to book. Thanks to all the staff.

Lots of locals at the bar, guys playing darts, and the ladies guild gathering around a large table discussing their business. The locals clearly enjoy it, we did too. Straight to mains, the Steak and Ale Pie was tasty and the meat tender and flavoursome. Various options, I went for the mash potato, as well as veg accompaniment. Both cooked well. Sweet Chilli Chicken was lovely, as was the accompanying stir fry and chips. For dessert I had the Apple and Almond Tart and that was delicious. Lemon Curd Roulade was tasty but the meringue was a bit flat and was more like a cake than a roulade. We left having had a really nice meal, served by equally nice people, and I'm sure we will drop in again when we are back in the area, God willing.

Nice atmosphere, lovely setting,good range of ciders

This is one of our local pubs, a few miles' walk from home but worth every mile for the great choice of ciders, airy feel, friendly owners and plenty of seating outside in the sunshine. The village is really pretty, running alongside the river and a stone's throw from the Tarka Trail at Halfpenny Bridge. Altogether a splendid North Devon watering hole!

Been here twice in the last few days. First time, just popped in for a drink and tonight for a meal. Both being called Sir by the landlord - can’t say that has ever happened before. Our whippet was given water both times by him. Both landlord and landlady are very friendly and a credit to their village. Fantastic pub food and good selection of beer, lagers and ciders. Give them your customer if you’re in the area!

First visit since COVID. New owners, and nothing but praise to offer. Friendly folk, good service, excellent food, well kept local ale, all at reasonable prices. Pie for me, lasagne for the lady. No room for pud for me, cheesecake for the lady. Definitely going back soon. Recommended.

Usual macro brewery options but with superb very local beers and ciders too. Very friendly welcome. Good pub grub with several vegetarian options.

1st visit very welcoming sensibly priced food well worth a visit, might have found the best steak & ale pie around, and mash to die for. Will be back soon. 😄😄😄

Just had a lovely Mother’s Day, Sunday Roast. Great food, service, and very good value for money. A very nice touch also, that all the ladies got given a candle.

If you are looking for a pub with a nice atmosphere, really good food & a cracking pint, then the Cyder Presse is perfect. Wonderful hosts who are totally committed to serving the locals & guests from afar.

The pub of all pubs. If you want traditional, friendly and atmosphere, oh and a log burner.. then this is the place. 8 of us had dinner, starters and a main, couldn't fault it absolutely lush. Definitely a 10/10 from us

Lovely public house that we have been meaning to try for sometime. Very friendly welcome by the host on arrival. We had not booked and although they were busy with a book club evening and darts match, Gay very kindly agreed to cook for us. We all had different meals and puddings, all were very nice and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. Thank you.

Such a fantastic lunch. My girlfriend and I had a great meal at the Cyder Presse for Sunday lunch. Their was a choice of either beef or lamb which we both had a mix of 2. Great country pub and the service from Gay, Dave and team was impeccable (as always). Keep it up guys and we will be back. Thanks.

Sticky toffee pudding, apple crumble, chocolate brownie and honeycomb cheesecake. All amazing. The beef was a bit dry even with the gravy.

Sometimes you go to a place, and it completly knocks your socks off. Everything was exceptional, the food, service, prices & the roaring fire. We went there not expeting much, and came away wishing that every pub etc was like this.

The pub was open by 5pm on a wet and windy November mid-week night. The fire was lit, the welcome was warm and the food excellent even though the customers were quite sparse in this tiny village. Highly recommend this pub.

Went for Sunday lunch today, have to say the ambiance is fantastic, a pub that serves great grub, not a pretentious restaurant trying to be a pub….Dave and Gay are to be congratulated on the grub and service with great staff. The two hour journey from Plymouth was well worth it! Previous good reviews enticed us to this lovely venue. Family run with a great friendly atmosphere from ALL of the very attentive staff. The roast was perfect. The beef was tasty and tender, and no holding back on plenty of vegetables, such a wide range of veg. A very cosy off the beaten track pub, with a lovely log burner roaring away behind us. Great value for money with a choice of roast sizes. Definitely a revisit will be made when next in the area. Great Village Pub. Welcoming and friendly atmosphere. I stayed for a meal, which was very tasty, and the portions were huge. Great value for money New land lady and Land Lord have continued and improved on the atmosphere, food and quality of draft beers. Great place to go for an evening out or meal with friends

Very old fashioned. Bit like your granny's front room. Not very clean, dusty, & cobwebs everywhere inside. Looks nice from the outside though.

Stopped off here from the Tarka Trail, a really friendly and welcoming service, food was great and I really enjoyed it, I had visited this place 6 months prior before the new management took over and I'm pleased to see it has a new lease of life now, Will deffinatly return.

The most welcoming pub, popped in for a few drinks whilst out cycling on the tarka trail wirh my son and stopped for longer and enjoyed an excellent meal with great service, friendly hosts and customers, highly recommend and thank you for a great time.

Sadly the roast was average, veg obviously frozen, potatoes under cooked, gravy weak and just very bland roast! Apple pie again undercooked and service was only great when the girlfriend of the grandson came over. She was excellent- sorry won’t return unless they cook all fresh- could not hear ourselves talk with a load of men that came in - shame we were sat in the bar area!

Lovely pub in such a pretty village. Staff and locals so friendly and very dog friendly too. Dave the landlord is such a gent and keeps the beer perfectly, Gay his wife does a great job at cooking keeping the menu simple but good value for money. Great selection of ciders. Can’t wait to visit again!

An absolute gem, lovely friendly staff that make you feel at home, tasty food, great selection of drinks!

We are staying in the village on holiday from Wiltshire and visited this lovely pub this evening. The food was great but the staff were amazing. Especially the gentleman Dave behind the bar, he was excellent

Stopped by early evening for supper. The choice of cider was impressive, the Guinness was fabulous - proper, the staff friendly and helpful. Nicely spaced tables. The food menu was a bit odd. Lacking in detail, so you didn't really know what you were getting. Bit of a gamble. So there was a veggie burger but no idea if it was fake meat, beans or homemade creation - I did ask and was told it was a bean burger. Since I've had really really bad veggie burgers I decided to avoid. There's not a great choice for veggies and couldn't see anything for vegans. Ended up having a starter with chips. Crispy chips with fluffy potato inside and Four Mozzarella sticks and chilli jam. It was fine, but nothing special. Husband had the burger which he enjoyed, but it was more bun than burger, ie burger was small. Desert menu was a simple list and it read like it was all bought in. It might have been homemade - it didn't say. Overall we had a pleasant meal, slightly disappointing, but OK.

Excellent village pub indoors and out. Comfortable inside, nice terrace in front and quiet garden at the rear. We were made very welcome by the friendly hosts, Dave & Gay from the very first evening. Regular customers too were relaxed and conversational. Good food and real ale. Very dog friendly so nothing not to like about it

Now under new management. Excellent service from Dave and Gay, we are lucky to have them revive our village pub. Good range of beers and a ‘pub food’ menu. Sunday roast is the best I’ve had in any restaurant bar none.

Awesome place. Proper unmolested English pub. Roast was cooked perfect. Sun trap out the front, lovely pint of cider with the birds singing away in the trees across the road. Can't fault the place. Not too far from tarka trail if you fancied a Sunday bike road.

Delicious food, and a wonderful friendly atmosphere

Walked 20 minutes through the woods for a Xmas Eve drink and it was worth it. OK I let the side down with a Guinness when there are a number of ales and ciders available but the locals didn't attack me with pitchforks so all was good

A beautiful village pub. Very friendly staff, lovely atmosphere and the most delicious Sunday Roast and puddings you can ask for. A huge selection of vegetables with the roast all cooked to perfection. I prebooked a table and in all honesty I drove past and didn't realise it was the pub.... But very glad we found it. The service and welcome you receive in this pub is awesome. We visited once during our stay in Weare Giffard. Food is wholesome and choice is reasonable.

Table for two booked on the day. Husband sampled three ciders equalling a pint (good opportunity to decide which you prefer). Leisurely drink whilst looking at the menu. Good variety and plenty of specials. I chose garlic mushrooms on ciabatta and hubby had prawn in filo with a chilli dip (hot, hot, hot - landlord tells us the chillis were home grown). Both starters were lovely but a word of warning, the mains were big portions and in hindsight would not have had a starter 😋. I had one of the specials, prawn Baltic with rice and poppadums. Absolutely delicious and piping hot! Hubby chose hunters chicken served with chunky chips and peas. Again piping hot and very tasty. The meal with two drinks each came to a very reasonable £59. A big shout out to our servers, very friendly with a few words for everyone whilst ensuring everyone was happy with their food. A very quirky little pub in beautiful surroundings.

Lovely atmosphere and hosts as well as the customers. Had a great time and a couple of needed ciders. Will visit again when we're back down in this part of the country.

Everything you like to find in a country pub

After a 40 mile bike ride in blistering heat, we diverted from the Tarka Trail for a pint here; when we arrived they had just locked up and we nearly collapsed with disappointment! The woman who was leaving saw us and one of the locals in the garden called to ask if she could serve us; to our surprise, she unlocked the pub and poured us drinks. This was such a kind gesture for two very tired and thirsty cyclists, one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for us! They apparently close earlier now as so few people go here on some nights (this was Sunday); we highly recommend the beer and the kindness....go there as often as you can!

Excellent Sunday lunch. Loads of veg, roasters, Yorkshire and meat. Even parsnips, swede and cauliflower cheese. Choice of lamb, beef pork or turkey. Lovely pub with Devon brewed ales. Dog friendly. Staying at Barton Farm campsite, short 0.6miles away. Very friendly.

Dropped in for a quick pint while walking the dog. As we are staying at a local campsite we will be coming back for a meal and a couple more pints of Otter, the cyder isn't bad either. The landlord is very friendly.

I can't recommend this place highly enough. The beer is good, the cider is great, the food is fantastic and the staff are just the best. Honestly, everything else could be rubbish and the staff would make this place worth a visit but everything else is great too. If you are ever within a 90 minute drive of this place it should be top of your list to visit.

Nice old fashioned pub and BB in North Devon small garden bit seating out front of pub surrounded on a house development Only problem it's only open Thursday to Sunday even in August when we went as were most pubs in area !!!!
