We were looking to meet friends halfway between our locations. I rang and spoke to a lovely gentleman (owner/chef) who was very accommodating. We had a dog with us which was no problem. The inn was lovely and friendly and the Sunday lunch was very good. Good ale on draught too.

What a little gem of a pub. We chanced upon the pub around 1.45pm and were unsure if we would be too late for lunch. The lovely lady made us & our dog very welcome. After a short wait we were served probably the best and most generous pub lunch ever (& an extra pot of gravy). The Jail Ale was beautifully kept and went down well . We wished we lived nearer

My family visited this wonderful pub for Sunday lunch. The roast was amazing. Our order was taken and then the food arrived very quickly. The quantity and quality of food was superb. Plenty of veg and other trimmings. They do a very nice real ale - Jail Ale. All plates were cleared and then we moved onto the desserts. They were wonderful! Sticky toffee pudding and bread and butter pudding, all with custard. The pub was is small and cosy and the staff so friendly. It is a must to visit.

Party of four adults, we had the roasts - beef, pork and chicken. Lovely old pub, plenty of parking on road outside. Best to book ahead, and check opening times, as not open every day. Very friendly and helpful staff, food was freshly cooked and tasty, with ample portions. Would certainly return if we were local - think our friends will. Great place for a leisurely lunch, and dog friendly too.

Totally blown away with the quality of food. I ordered the crab cakes and they were amazing. Really tasted of crab. Normally fish cakes are full of potato and little fish but I’m sure these were filled with just crab. Full of flavour! My husband had the steak, which again was cooked to perfection. What was more impressive was that the landlord was on his own, cooking AND serving! If he was stressed he didn’t show it. He apologised for the delay. Not sure what delay as we we were in and out in around an hour! Totally recommend this hidden little gem 🥰

When we pulled off the A30 with a screaming baby and desperately needed somewhere to stop, this pub was a god send. It was 8pm on a Thursday night and at first glance I thought this would be a proper ‘locals only’ type vibe but I couldn’t have been more wrong. We took our dog and crying baby in and felt so welcome. We learnt all about the pubs history as a post office from the locals sat at the bar and got chatting about our journey back to Jersey from Cornwall and how we stumbled upon the pub. The owner very kindly made us some food after the kitchen had shut, maybe it was my look of utter exhaustion but more likely because he was just a very kind mind. The toilets were clean, the fire was going which made for a lovely toasty and cosy atmosphere and the people were all friendly - loved it! One improvement point could be to put a pull down baby changing unit in the women’s toilet or maybe just keep a changing mat available in there which could be used on the floor in the bathroom as I couldn’t see anywhere to change a nappy. (Although I didn’t ask the owner so maybe they do have somewhere that wasn’t immediately obvious)

Excellent food. We had the Sunday roast (beef), the meat was tender, the vegetables were perfect and the gravy was thick & with pieces of onion. The potatoes were so good too! So yummy! The pub is run by a very nice & friendly couple. We loved how they communicated with each other, made us smile. They were both very friendly and open with us as well. We didn't have ale as we wanted to drive on and do sightseeing but they seem to have a good selection of beer, ale & other spirits. Very quirky interior, I liked it very much. 5 stars, I would return anytime!!

This little pub is in the middle of nowhere (at least so it seemed to a traveller like myself). On the hunt for some Sunday lunch, we pulled up here unsure of what to expect. Well, we had a vast selection of choices for a Sunday (as well as various roast meats on the menu there was also salmon which was delicious). Portion size was generous and the roasted parsnips absolutely outstanding. We had a great time. The food was well cooked and beautifully presented. The cod was chunky and fell apart perfectly and I even enjoyed the mussels and beautiful sauce. The duck too was the perfect colour and delicious. Lovely soft pork bites with delicious chutney. Desserts too up to high standard and the chocolate delice was especially enjoyed. The waitress was very , efficient, attentive and friendly. It may be a little on the expensive side but definitely value for money for surroundings, service and food. We also enjoyed the background music which I can rarely say but it was not intrusive and from our era. Will definitely return when next in the area and possibly try the Sunday lunch.
