The best restaurants serving British food in England

We had Fabulous food and great service for our Easter family meet up. Lovely home cooked meals Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.

We visited the Gate Inn for Sunday lunch. A nice choice on the menu and we weren't disappointed with the roast pork and lovely desert. The car park can get full as the pub is popular but parking in the street is available a few short steps away.

Volvimos a nuestro alojamiento esperando que la comida estuviera disponible. Nos sentamos en el jardín y tomamos una copa mientras miramos el menú y esperamos que el servicio de comida comience a las 5 pm. Nos ofrecieron una mesa aunque no habíamos reservado con antelación. El restaurante se llenó rápidamente y es obviamente un restaurante muy popular. Las chicas que servían eran todas amables y profesionales. Nuestra orden fue tomada rápidamente y la comida estaba con nosotros en aproximadamente 20 minutos - recién cocinado y agradable y caliente. Las comidas eran buenas y bien presentadas. Decidimos tener el plato de compartir de postre -era enorme pero logramos terminarlo entre nosotros : ) Fabulosa comida y sin duda recomendaría.

Great fish and chips, crispy batter and all at a very reasonable price! What’s not to like 🙂

Very enjoyable meal, staff were great!

We come here every week for either breakfast for lunch, the food is exceptional, always served quickly and generous portions. The staff are always super friendly.

Good choice of tasty bagels. Bacon roll available until 11:30am. Good coffee.

It's right in front of the accommodation, so I stopped by for a beer. It's a very real local pub. There's no food (small snacks?). You just order beer in front of the bar and get it. (Prepaid) And there's a really cute hot dog dachshund.

Roast dinner was nice but my pink lamb was burnt. Not pink at all. And one carrot cut in half is not ideal either for £23… when I asked about my pink lamb. The waitress said “it’s lamb”

Came here around a year before and the food was awful, but we came back due to it being a family birthday dinner, and the location was chosen by someone else so I was hopefull it might be better. Well it was worse. A group of 10+ people on a long table that would make anyone feel claustrophobic.  Food was ordered in 3 groups but at the same time, all the food came out at different times even food a same order came out at different times. Waitress came out with food no one had ordered, so that got sent back. 3 people were left with no food for 15 minutes whilst everyone else got theirs. The waitress had to ask us all "what's missing." After those 15 mins,2 out of 3 people got their food finally. My partners was the only food missing which took almost 15 more minutes. Once received, everyone else had basically finished theirs, but the actual meat was stone cold. I don't mean it was lukewarm, it was actually cold like it's been in the fridge for an hour.  I have never seen anything like it in any restaurant I've been it. It was like an episode of Hells Kitchen, just without Gordan Ramsay swearing in the background.  At this stage I was just angry and just took the entire meal to the bar and said we don't want it and we want the money back. We got a refund, and it basically ruined the experience. Not only that but the food we did get wasn't nice, I'm puzzled how so many people claim the food is good when the burgers are tasteless grease, the chips are flavourless and barely cooked, to me it's inedible.  To top off the entire experience, I now seem to have food poisoning the following day, so thank you.  Birthday invite or not, I won't be returning here.

Great Sunday roast, loads of fresh vegetables and high quality meat. Lasagne also excellent. Friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend.

A superb atmospheric old pub with excellent food and service , the staff are fantastic .

Really nice place to eat. Food is excellent. Service is friendly and professional. Will certainly be going back. Great steak!
