Me and my mum stopped by after a concert in York centre and we got literally the best chips ever - genuinely so delicious! The guy who served us was absolutely lovely - big shout out to whoever was working at 7pm ish sat 14th December - he was so helpful and kind. And again, the food was amazing (and very reasonably priced).

Just popped for a coffee today 🚌🚌👍🏻👍🏻

Fantastic service all around, went in with my girlfriend on 30/11/24, staff were super polite and friendly, nice seating and atmosphere, food was delivered quickly and was extremely tasty. Never written a review before but we really felt this shop and the staff who work here deserved the recognition. Would definitely recommend.

Chanced upon it whilst in York looking for a quick lunch. Food was very good and staff were very helpful. Fish was crunchy with a nice crumble, not too crispy as you can find in other places. Chips were good also. Good price for both

edited: seeing as the owner has replied, claiming my review is “absolute codswallop”, i will elaborate. ordered multiple items, genuinely threw my food in the bin. i don’t know if it was because they were busy tonight but all items were undercooked and soggy. crumb coating was chalky, everything had an odd taste to it. i hate leaving bad reviews but i spend a good £20, and threw most of my food in the bin.

Really very good fish and chips, crunchy breading and cooked on the spot, chips a little soft but they make them like this a lot here! Competitive price and generous portion! Plus the staff is really friendly! Super recommended

Went to this chippy based on the fact it has the highest average Google reviews in York. The chippy is about a 5 to 10 minute walk from city centre. I would say the chippy is very good. The fish and chips were good quality and at a fair price. There is seating indoors with a few tables and window seats on the ground floor and more seating upstairs If you like your fish and chips this place is worth checking out.

The restaurant is small but nice and clean. The staff is nice and the food is good but a little to oily. If coming with a group you need to call ahead. Take away is available. It' situated next to the car park and around 20-25 minutes walk from York centre. If busy expect queues for a table or to get your order.

The worst fish and chips I've had in the UK, by a wide margin. The outside was oily, but the fish was dry. There was also no flavor at all. The chips were undercooked and soggy. Neither one of us could finish because it was so oily and heavy.

Traveling in York, I stumbled upon a fish and chip shop. The waiters inside are very friendly and kind. I ordered fish and chips and fish nuggets to take away to eat. They were really delicious😋

Stopped in here randomly for a take away as I was staying near by and didn't fancy cooking. I'll start by saying fish was fantastic. Got basic cod, chips and scraps. The fish was light and flaky, batter wasn't too greasy. Chips were piping hot. Overall fantastic. The guy serving was pleasant and approachable, smiling and happy which I appreciated being a stranger in a strange town. The wait was about 5 minutes which is fine for freshly cooked. I happily recommend going here.

I have been ordering from this restaurant since 2019. Unfortunately the quality and portion sizes have declined since re-opening post covid. They may have been taken over without letting the customers know? This used to be my favourite chip shop but I’ll be taking my custom elsewhere from now on.

Absolutely fabulous! We had fish, chips, peas with sides of gravy and curry sauce. A real holiday treat. Great value for money too. Recommended.

Lovely Fish & Chips and a decent cup of tea

My mum and I had nuggets and chips here while we were waiting for our coach back to North Wales. The owner was very friendly and the food was just what we needed! If we are ever in York again, we would definitely come back here!!

Best Fish and Chips of the city. The service is extraordinary and the prices are too compared to other Chippies in York.

It is fish&chips take away with tables inside (first floor). Lovely fish in crispy batter with chips and mushy peas topped with tartare sauce made a good ending to a nice day. Charming gentleman helped us to make sure choice and delivered food straight to the table upstairs. P.S. Toilet was clean and tidy.

There are plenty of 5 star reviews so maybe I caught them on a bad night but my experience was really disappointing. The fish was so so. The chips really greasy and the scampi card board like and I paid for some mushy peas which were left off my order. Suffice it to say that I won’t be returning.

Visiting York. This chippy was the nearest to where I was staying. Was excited to get some fish & chips. Checked online to make sure it was open. Says 12pm til 8pm on a Thursday. Well it wasnt. Had to go to another chippy that was further away. Not very professional to have your shop closed when it's advertised otherwise.

Really good food. The staff are lovely and the place has a family atmosphere. The curry sauce is one of the best I've had from a chippy, and the fish is crispy and flakey in all the right ways. I fully recommend.

My friend is in a wheelchair and it was a little difficult to squease her in and out but the staff were more than happy to help me, the food was incredible and the staff were lovely. I would 100% recommend it here.

I had a shocking experience today with The Sea Catcher. I found out they are closed on Sundays!😱 The fish-n-chips are awesome-sauce here🤩🤩🤩 Crispy and meaty fish (I had cod) great size fillet + buttery chips + great atmosphere! The WORST fish and chips I have ever had. Waste of money. We was excited to try some fish and chips in Yorkshire but this was awful.

The guy was brilliant and happy to chat away while we waited but the start of the show are the fish bites. They are just in a class of their own and the girlfriend already wants me to make the hour drive for more, I don't blame her😆

Prices are incredibly reasonable. The food was great. I had a fish and chips and my gf had chicken fillets with curry chips.

Lovely little chippy with the option to dine in if you choose. I had the fishcakes which were made freshly after I ordered them. Best fishcakes I've ever tasted nearly as good as my own. There is seating downstairs but just a couple of tables but upstairs there are plenty more. Well worth a visit.

The fried fish was fresh and the bread coating was crispy and the thinnest I have ever tried so far. It'd just locked the delicious taste of the juicy fish. However, the manager is advised not to put the raw chicken nuggets next to the ice-cream. Yes, that's a hygiene issue need to be improved.

Last Friday night in York before leaving your beautiful city and returning to Cambridge on the train, Spotted Theseacatcher through the bus window on the way into town. On the way to back to BB stopped at bus stop very close to Seacatcher and had a very good helping of cod and chips washed down with a cold coke,

This is a lovely little place for take away or dine in. We had the Fried mushrooms, burger and chips. They also have ice cream but we did not partake. The service was great. Food was freshly prepared. The burger is typical of England and not my personal favorite but it was good. The chips are fresh and tasty.

Visited the Sea Catcher early April 2022. Twice, since the cod&chips were more than good! Lovely service and great atmosphere. Will certainly come back when in York again. And thanks for the free sausage!

Fish was mainly batter thin cut fillet.The batter was oily and a a little soggy oil coming out I don’t know if when cooked the oil was not hot enough. small portion of chips for nearly £7 not great. Friendly Staff. This business could be great if they had decent fish ie thicker and cooked it properly. Why is it so hard to get good fish in York.

Whilst the service was very friendly, the fish had already been cooked when I went in the shop, and was in the warming tray. When I got it home the batter was very soggy, almost rubbery - all of it with not a bit of crunch. I think the fish should be cooked to order when it is quiet.

This used to be great. Maybe it still is if you eat in. I live just a few minutes away and have ordered from here using Deliveroo a number of times and it's always been very good. Tonight it wasn't unfortunately, both the fish and chips tasted fine and big portions too but were undercooked by a fair bit resulting in soggy slimy batter and soggy chips. Not pleasant. Hopefully a one off, I'll maybe try them again.

The meal we had was first rate. The fish was so fresh and cooked incredibly well. It has to rate amonst one of the best fish and chip restaurants around. It is family run and they clearly take a pride in serving up the very best. The batter is a family recipe, handed down through the generations. The price was very competative even although the quality was the tops. We are running out of words to describe how good this meal was. We will definitely go back.

Went on day trip to York from walsall, just wish this shop was in walsall, fish and chips were top notch excellent service, do yourself a favour when in York eat here.

We live in France but thanks to Covid have been unable for 2 years to visit this fabulous fish and chip shop. When we arrived tonight I just stood at the door to smell this special place. A warm genuine welcome as always fro Sean and his top draw staff. Dinners for 8 served upstairs, piping hot, great portions and top quality. Very reasonable bill for a delicious treat.

Very good Fish and Chips. Cooked to order. Same price to eat in as takeout. The owner recommended today's Cod and it was very nice. Friendly and a very pleasant space upstairs. Right next to a large car park and just a couple on minutes walk from the Minster. Would totally visit again.
