Went for a late lunch on Sunday.
I'll keep it short. If there's a better steak to be had in York, I've yet to find it. It's not, of course, the cheapest, you get what you pay for.
we would highly recommend this place, very friendly service, delicious food, beautiful scenery, and a cool retreat from the heat. overall a very lovely and relaxing experience.
Probably our 8th visit by now! The pizzas are always lovely, would especially recommend the spicy spinata, good selection of drinks including different flavoured lemonades, cocktails and beer on tap. Do miss the garlic bread though!
Duck and chips anyone? I’m quackers about the food at The Taylor Made Kitchen in The Shambles Market, with a highlight being the Peking Duck loaded fries. Please note, this was a special and so may be different when you visit - but I’ve had others and they’re all MAGIC!
Skin-on fries topped with confit duck, hoisin sauce, plum sauce, siracha, Japanese mayo, kimchi, coriander and spring onions. I had the small (£7) but it was really substantial, also available as a large portion for £10. Nothing fowl about this dish, it was delicious!
I’ve also tried the Pizza Fries, smothered in ooey gooey melted cheese. Too cheesy? No, I’ve made a career out of it!
I’ve had their burgers too, the mac and cheese, and the festive poutine at Christmas. Coming to York? It’s worth poutine this one on your list.
The Wizard of York (Wizard Walk of York)
Waited a couple of years for the queue to not be so big, we struck lucky and managed to get a seat without too much of a wait, I'm so glad we Waited.
Service was spot on, pleasant and speedy, the ambience of upstairs makes it feel so special, the cakes were amazing and we will definitely call again.
There is a ongoing dispute over the sign of the tea shop, which is perfectly in keeping with the shop and the City, however some man I'd love to say gentlemen but I don't think he is, has taken a view that it might cause them to write more on the wall, is the general gist, however as they work so hard as well as not having the inclination to do this, they haven't the the time.
So Gordon I hope you're ashamed, but I doubt it.
The Old York Tea Room, I wish you all the luck in the world, and should you need a nice neon sign, let me know.
Thank you and we will definitely be back
Great little spot ticked out of the way.
The staff are always polite, friendly and welcoming to us and our dog.
They have a good selection of beers on tap and in cans.
The food menu has extensive choice of burgers, sides, mac n cheese, loaded fries and some good veggie options. Regular specials keep it interesting too.
We've tried a lot of different things off the menu and all has been great but particularly some of the 'out there' stuff like the Vada Pav and Katsu burgers and the curry and mango chutney loaded fries.
Highly recommend
Highly recommend. The food was delicious and the staff were super friendly and attentive. Everything was so fresh and tasty. I shall return as the meal was excellent value.
Authentic Italian in the heart of York Loved everything Friendly welcome True family vibe here tried Lunch Menu had Tomato soup (exceptional) followed by Seabass (omg) Mrs had garlic mushrooms and chicken with a mushroom sauce (proper chicken) generous portions and excellent value House Wine Fab too did not have room for sweet will defo be back when in York!
Amazing donuts freshly made to order, a very decently sized protion. The staff were lovely and chatty while waiting for our order. Would definitely return!
Gyros was nice but the place is not child friendly or adaptive. Asked for a child’s tuna sandwich which arrived, two plain slices of bread with dry tuna placed in the middle. No sauce or butter. Was shocked on paying to be charged £9 for this, and when questioned was told we COULD have had the full tuna sandwich on home made bread and side dish so that’s why it was still full price. Very over priced and not child friendly menu.
