The Taylor Made Kitchen in York

Duck and chips anyone? I’m quackers about the food at The Taylor Made Kitchen in The Shambles Market, with a highlight being the Peking Duck loaded fries. Please note, this was a special and so may be different when you visit - but I’ve had others and they’re all MAGIC! Skin-on fries topped with confit duck, hoisin sauce, plum sauce, siracha, Japanese mayo, kimchi, coriander and spring onions. I had the small (£7) but it was really substantial, also available as a large portion for £10. Nothing fowl about this dish, it was delicious! I’ve also tried the Pizza Fries, smothered in ooey gooey melted cheese. Too cheesy? No, I’ve made a career out of it! I’ve had their burgers too, the mac and cheese, and the festive poutine at Christmas. Coming to York? It’s worth poutine this one on your list. The Wizard of York (Wizard Walk of York)

Saw this on social media and went to try it absolutely lovely food, we got the loaded fries and they were the best loaded fries I have ever had . Would recommend to anyone who is visiting York City center.

We’d tried the food here as part of a food trail last year, and been really impressed, but this was the first chance I’d had to return. We ordered the Katsu chicken fries and it was just as good as I’d remembered. Freshly cooked moist chicken in a crispy coating with fries and katsu and siracha sauces, so it was pretty spicy! Huge helpings too, as there were three of us we got one large portion and one smaller one and there was lots of food, and I couldn’t finish mine. Highly recommended.

If you find yourself in York and are famished this place is first rate, ok it’s not fine dining , it doesn’t pretend to be. The portions are huge, we had dirty fries with buffalo chicken and sauce also the macaroni cheese. Gorgeous, filling, a good report with the staff. Treat yourself.

Absolutely amazing food! I can be a little fussy and asked if they could put the cheese sauce on one side of the loaded fries. The guy at the counter said he would try his best! When going up to collect our food they had very kindly shared the portion of fries between 2 boxes, one with the sauce and one without. They went out of their way to help us and were so kind! We could not recommend them enough! Fantastic food - thank you!

Well what can I say…. Restaurant and spend £50 plus for good food OR Try these guys … real street food. Oh my goodness this place is amazing! Food was spectacular- we have visited before but some time ago and was so pleased it was thriving. The Mac n cheese was phenomenal, service great.

Fab location on Shambles market, menu was hard to choose from as looked so good, food was very tasty, portions massive particularly for price, finally staff were all really friendly. What more can you ask for? Try it if you’re after some quality, tasty street food. We will be back next time we are in York.

On a very freezing snowy day we came to TMK for Restaurant Week, not knowing it was outside! But we grabbed the pizza fries to share (HUGE portions) and it was worth sitting in the freezing cold for. They were so delicious! We asked them to be made vegetarian so no pepperoni but it didn't matter. The cheese and tomato sauce was so good, I miss it already.

Having read the reviews we just had to try this place. Opted for the Katsu curry loaded fries and weren't disappointed. This was Mrs Elstons first taste of Katsu and she loved it. Very generous portion and taste was superb. We shared a portion and it was plenty for both of us. Go and you won't be disappointed. The music wasn't too bad either! Enclosed picture doesn't do it justice.

Amazing, I got the dirty chilly fries. The chilly is made out of beef brisk it and is just spot on and the portion size is very generous. My partner got the cheesy buffalo chips. Buffalo sauce was amazing chicken was spectacular. I read the reviews and though well it's probably good. No it's not good it's just amazing. Best 'fast food' I've ever eaten. We're already planning our orders for tomorrow.

Visited here today. Food was really really good despite being very busy. My husband and I were so impressed with the thoughtfulness displayed by staff. Staff really went out of their way to make sure the food served was just right for our little grandson. I was told (without asking) what spices etc are normally used and asked if I wanted them omitted. He also served the dish a little cooler. Thank you for going above and beyond.

I found this place online before a trip to York with my daughter. We ordered small pizza fries and small katsu fries. They were both amazing BUT we didn't even manage 2 thirds of them and I felt so wasteful. I wish we had just got 1 portion but even choosing 2 from the selection was a difficult choice. I'll definitely go again but maybe with more people so I can taste everything. The service was also amazing, there was a 20 minute wait but they give you a pager so you can go and continue looking round the market until it is ready. It was such a busy day but all of the orders were coming out thick and fast and there were lots of happy diners.

We had this on our list to visit during our weekend in York and it didn't disappoint! We made the mistake of ordering a small mac and cheese and a large katsu fries to share between two of us... The chap in the van didn't look surprised when we asked for a take away bag when we were defeated 😂 Delicious food, HUGE portions, get there early 😊

The food is consistently fantastic, the portions are huge, value is amazing when you compare it to the high street chains and quality never disappoints. Christian and his amazing team work very hard to ensure every dish that goes out is tip top. When they are busy, you might have to wait 10 or 15 minutes but it’s worth it because you know you’re getting individually prepared dishes. Just remember… if you can’t finish your meal, take our home and have it later. 🥰

I've had a lot of street food from a lot of places around the country, but nothing prepared me for this! First off, the "small" portion was more than most places give you in their larges. Second, the flavours and quality of ingredients were off the charts for a food van. The guys running it were friendly, they have those electric buzzers to tell you when the food is ready so there is no queue and you can keep looking around the nearby market. All in all, I can't fault it on a single thing.
