Just had a large cod and chips Best I’ve had in a long time Good service and well cooked, good portion and very tasty 👍

Ordered fish and chips got delivered 20mins late and chips were burnt black got second lot of chips same burnt black and fish was so hard I nearly broke my teeth definitely won't be ordering again and it won't let me upload photo

I go twice a week .Best chippy around by far. Mandy & Andy bunch of laughs not forgetting Alex service with a smile. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL.

Really need to amend your opening hours. Grabbed my walking stick to have a wander round to Butlers, after checking your opening hours on Google Maps, and you were closed despite your GM listing saying you're open.

I’m not from around this area just passing through and googled chip shop near me, this one come up with best reviews. It certainly didn’t disappoint, lovely

A lovely fish & chip shop which is a 10 minute drive from the York south west Premier Inn. The food was lovely, the staff were very friendly and the prices good. The added bonus is it stays open until 9:00 p. m.

Chips are absolutely garbage, I don’t know who is eating there but they must have pretty low standards and must be use to eating chips that are all shrivelled up and manky due to being left in hoppa for over three hours. It wouldn’t be right to charge somebody to buy them only fit to give away for free. A fish & chip which can’t get the basics right no wonder it’s always empty wont be long before it’s shut for good, but let’s face it all the take aways at Foxwood Shops are crap.

We used to visit the fish and chip shop around the corner from Butlers, but Butlers fish and chips knock ALL competition into a cocked hat. They are by far the best in York. Reasonably priced and VERY large portions. Also, they taste fantastic, melt- in - the- mouth fish with a lovely crunchy batter. The chips are beautiful as well. We wouldn’t go anywhere else now, 😋.

Butlers fish & chips in Foxwood over last year or so has started to go downhill, the shop is emptying out of customers and do you know why? I tell you why because the fryer has started serving up pre-cooked fish and chips that have been sat around in the hoppa for 5 hours or more and when you get them home they are manky warmed up rubbish only fit for a dog to eat. How he can charge customers for that rubbish will be reason why this fish shop shuts down. The fryer needs to start cooking fish and chips to order even if it means people are queuing, clearly whoever this guy is he doesn't know anything about running a business or a good chippy all he's good at is running this chippy into the ground. People have already started going elsewhere for nice fish and chips. I hope the owners are reading this.

Andy & Mandy the owners are lovely people. Always friendly staff, fresh fish in the fryer and cook to order. Introduced me to 'Irish Curry' too and never looked back. Keep up the good work folks.

As I have travelled quite extensively, I can say without doubt that these are the best value, most tasty fish and chips I've ever had. The staff are always very pleasant and cheerful and how they remember all the orders is beyond me! They collect for very worthy charities - holding a raffle for children with cancer over the Easter break and everyone in the shop who bought a ticket got a gift of some sort, even the losers. They also support Martin House. It was quite a pleasure waiting for my order, with lots of banter.

Despite this place being highly recommend we found the staff rather rude and assuming. We only had chips which had no salt or flavour, and outside of being really hungry we would not have eaten them. Would not recommend could definitely get better chips and friendlier service elsewhere!

Great little Fish and Chip shop. We've just moved into the area. We'll definitely be using them again. Haddock and chips were lovely. Battered Sausage great. Peas were cold but I'm guessing this was a one off. So handy that it's just round the corner too.

Used on a weekly basis before and highly rated this place. Told a lot of people to give it a try. Had an incident with the female manager/owner a few months ago about a missing item from my order and decided to let is slide/give her the benefit of the doubt. Used the place a few more times and felt the quality/standards were slipping a little. Used again mid afternoon on a Saturday. Soggy old/cold chips that tasted like they had been cooked and left to sit for ages. Fish overdone/dry and greasy. Had a gritty/sandy taste to the food. Would put this down to them not turning the food over like they do on a Friday/Saturday teatime. Thought I would let them know. Didn't expect a refund. Just wanted an acknowledgment from them - maybe a sorry if you felt that way, hopefully you will give us another try. Terrible customer service skills from male owner - just got really defensive and just seemed to want an argument over the phone. He can't handle a bit of negative feedback. Don't bother complaining/giving feedback b/c it won't get you very far. No way to run a business. Such a shame. This place is usually great value and would have gone back had I not had this experience with the owners. Won't be returning.

Been going to this chip shop for years, But the past 3 times I went, I’ve been given the chips that wasn’t sold in the previous opening, even when I went during lunch time I was given chips that was probably cooked the day before that wasn’t sold...I understand food waste but at least spread these refried chips into other portions with newly fried chips and not just the first customer.

Lived in York 3yrs. This was my 1st visit,absolutely gorgeous. Ordered on phone,ready to collect when i got there. The portions are fantastic. Staff were very friendly,no quee but if there was they have a canopy outside to stop people getting wet. Well worth a drive or a walk. Will be going back and definitely recommend them.

Best chippy I've ever been to, used to go almost twice a week a year ago, these days its once a month or two, on occasion that i get delivery to glenridding i even get to have a chat, really brightens my day up, and the portion sizes on the chips are real yorkshire portions, absolutely huge; no matter how close my local is I still go out of my way to come here. Nothing but quality from Butlers.

Went to butlers shippy and there fish suppers are huge and good i got the standered size and it was a big fish and about 3lb of chips enought to do a cpl of people the size of supper it was

Bit of a treat during lockdown to find that Butler's fish and chips were doing delivery. Absolutely superb quality fish (we had regular haddock) with beautiful batter - crisp and dry. Chips were real chip shop chips cooked to perfection. All delivered on time and piping hot - we're about three-quarters of a mile away. Great food, great service, great value - no question we will have them again! Best wishes for continued business during this difficult time.

Tried butlers today amazing place fish cooked to order everything fresh and tasty well worth a visit. Whilst waiting at least 10-15 orders came in no real waiting time the staff fly through the orders

We moved away from the area so haven’t been to Butlers for a while and I was disappointed to see a whole new change of staff. But my dismay was ill-founded as the fish and chips were still the best in the area in terms of quantity and (better still) quality. Lovely fresh fish with a golden crispy batter and huge quantities of chips. It’s good to see standards being maintained. Good value for money too

I was a great fan of Bartons, so was pleased when the staff took over this site when Bartons "disappeared". They haven't disappointed. Just had a giant haddock and chips that fed two people. The fish was moist and fresh and the chips were plentiful and excellent. Adjacent Parking is usually good. A great value meal
