First time (but definitely not the last ) fish cooked to order chips beautiful and the mushy peas what can I say, will be getting a large portion next time sorry no photo was picking while dishing out and couldn't wait to get into it.

We've been here before and been happy, unfortunately this time we were given overcooked fish and cold soggy chips.

Not often I’m lost for words…… But the best fish and chips I’ve had for years. Thick fresh fish in the perfect batter, chips are spot on. Can’t recommend enough, and I like that they only open 3 days. Just shows you they are doing it right. Superb!

Cracking large haddock, chips and peas. Very nice thick fillet of haddock, great batter & a generous portion of chips even though I opted for small. Friendly owner, cooked it to order, best fish and chips I've had in years.

Excellent fish and chips. Called in on Saturday lunchtime and ordered large Haddock, small portion of chips & peas. The fish was thick, fresh & tasty and as advertised 'large'. It was massive in comparison to other so called large fish I've had recently. The batter was light and crispy and it was cooked to order by the very pleasant owner. The portion of chips was generous, I'm glad I only ordered small. Top quality fish and chips, very tasty, will be back soon.

Ordered haddock and chips +curry sauce. Cooked to order and I can honestly say the best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. Well done to the staff and will go again soon.

Haven't been able to visit for a while as family no longer live in the village, but really enjoyed my fish, chips and scraps on Saturday lunchtime. Friendly staff, good food and good value. Close to the attractive old village area as well.

Worth the detour to find this hidden gem. Fish cooked to order in frequently changed beef dripping. Best fish I've had for ages, large sweet flakes. Somewhat eccentric opening hours do check my photo for days and times .

Can't give 5 stars as the fryer was a little rude. After entering the premises, I was acknowledged but stood next to the counter. No indication either within the shop that there was a "queue" nor that where I stood was where food was given after payment. Maybe I'm being trite, however, two other customers entered and were served before me as they joined the "queue". Then realising that the server nor the fryer were helpful. My order having been taken was then freshly prepared, however the fish batter was under cooked, with raw batter being fish side, and as a result carried too much "fat" meaning they were what some call greasy. The chips being "yellow" and just cooked. So after my experience, it's four stars as it wasn't bad but absolutely has room for improvement.

Absolutely AMAZING 🤩 Since being introduced to this Chippy, Fish & Chips really mean FISH & CHIPS!! Excellent EVERY TIME!! In my opinion, NO other place I have tried, come close… HIGHLY RECOMMEND

In all honesty the level of professionalism cleanliness. And superior quality of fish n chips is Barr none. I used to go towards wetwang and so plsed to have this place now xxx

Excellent fish and chips. Everything fresh and hot. Covid measures are very well thought out. If you want a big fish, don't forget to order it straightaway as it's cooked to order so you'll need to wait a few minutes for it.😉

The fish and chips are nice but the mushy peas are incredibly sweet - sugary sweet. I’ve never come across this before and I just can’t eat them. Which is a shame.

Been getting our fish and chips from this shop for almost twenty years! Best in York. It is spotlessly clean. The food is fresh and delicious. And the owners and staff are friendly and efficient. We especially like the young man with the curly hair!

When in York I always visit for fish & chips . I also highly reccomend the fish cakes. They are in breadcrumbs which I prefer. Food is always piping hot often cooked freshly while you wait. Very efficient and friendly staff. Reccomended for the best fish and chip shop in Yorkshire

Had 🎏 and chips Saturday not very nice dry and hard fish more batter than fish not nice at all going back to Thomson's great fish and chips never come to you again yuccck rubbish 🤪

Best fish and chip shop in England (not being dramatic, it’s true)! Lucky enough to live just round the corner from the best chippy I’ve ever tasted, no other fish and chips can beat Osbaldwick’s.

Don't eat fish and chips regularly as I have gastric problems. But if I am going to eat them I only go to Osbaldwick they are the best well we think so as a family. Just found out they are open again so we will be there.

Consistently good chips and fish

We have never been disappointed with the food here always hot and fresh. Have been going for many years since we lived in the area. Good value for money.

Had fish and chips from here for the first time as had been told they were really nice. Very disappointed. On the plus side both items were hot (to start with). Now for the downside - the batter was really thick and greasy, like a heart attack on a plate, had to remove it. Chips were very pale and would have benefitted from a couple more minutes in the fryer. Finally, by the time we got them home, the chips were stuck to the paper they were wrapped in and cold by the time we finally got them scraped off. Not an experience to be repeated.

Super fish & chips but seems to be closed a lot!

Excellent chips! Lose a couple of stars due to opening hours: closed on Mondays and only open after 4:30pm Tues-Thurs. Not much good for lunch while working nearby! But cannot fault the quality of the grub, very nice indeed.

Called in here when I was too late to get a pub meal one evening. A nice find, great fish supper. Well cooked very good service, a tasty cheap meal.

We live just round the corner. So where soon home to enjoy them. It's a good dinner at eny time . The shop is just in the parade of sops in the canter of Osbaldwick..

After ringing up then saying what was wanted over the counter still couldn't get the order correct only been twice but that's the last

5/5 Fish and Chips, just a shame they seem to close as and when they please!

Disappointing tonight. Apparently order for 50 being done for customer that wasn't there. Meanwhile queue in the shop kept waiting and growing longer by the minute. Waited 15 minutes in the queue without moving. So sorry , you lost a customer, went to Thompson's on the 64 instead.

This place is excellent..i live in the village and this has got to be one of the best in the city of york..its spotlessley clean and friendly... Not gressy and very fresh...the batter is so crispy on the fish. The fish is white chunky and flakey.. The chips very generous we buy one portion between us.. Im quite fussy they wrap my fish on its own... The owner and staff are polite and friendly .. My husband loves the yorkshire fish cake... This place i would highly recomend x

Wow the best fish & chips I've had any where, this little gem was recommended won't be going anywhere else now . The haddock was fresh thick and white not like other shops I've been ,the chips just fab too can't wait to try the rest of the menu 5*****

You may be able to see from my other reviews I have eaten in a great selection of establishments. This family run Yorkshire chippy is clean clean clean, friendly service and great food. Can't fault it, go for haddock, a true Yorkshire dish!

Some of the best fish in the area I think, and the chips and battered sausage aren't bad either. The chip shop is closed on Mondays and often over holidays so just check that first but a good choice of takeaway.

this fish and chip shop never fail to deliver, mark is very polite and friendly. we usually have cod which you have to pre order but its worth waiting for.

Having just read the last review I cannot understand where they are comming from with their remarks. I have been visiting Osbaldwick Fisheries almost weekly from the day it opened some 17 + years now (you do not survive as a sole trader for that long serving customers the quality that the last reviewer states, so I seriously doubt the authenticity of their review !!!!!!) The quality of the food is second to none as is the portion size and prices charged. All other reviews bar none have only praise for this 5 Star traditional chippy using top quality ingredients cooked to perfection. Dont just take my word for it, do as I do and give them a try

This is good local I love going here although sometimes the prices change often it's usually cheaper than big chains like harpers and sea side ones the food is always cooked right sometimes you have to wait for more chips but they are nice and I love the cheese burger as it is called cheese in burgers as it melted and the fish is just the best good clean place Friday and Saturday you get queues but still good food, tang hall fish and chips is nice ish but bit as clean and is outdated but is cheap

I so wanted to give this place 5 stars but unfortunately my telephone orders have been wrong on more than one occasion and there is nothing worse than arriving home with a hungry family to find they haven't put the chips in the bag. Otherwise the food is absolutely gorgeous, fast and friendly. Would definitely recommend but be cautious when ringing ahead. Lovely though.

Telephone orders taken and good, fresh traditional fish and chips. Queues likely if you are not early but worth the wait. Near a difficult bend in the road with little space for parking.

Awesome fish, chips don't taste greasy. My other half swears by the Curry sauce. Definitely now our chippy of choice!

Lovely fresh skinless fish. Freshly cooked superb quality food. Reasonable prices. So good we dont use our local fish and chip shop we always travel a few miles to use this one.
