I went here cos my mum said it was good ! It was , I enjoyed the bread rolls cos I am northern, and fish and chips , the fish was cooked well and the chips were nice , I also had a potatoe cake witch I think was home made and was also large and very nice especially for 70p .

This is, by far, THE best fish and chip shop in York. The owner is clearly passionate about the quality of the food that leaves the shop as the previous reviews will testify. The fish is cooked to perfection and not greasy like some places I’ve been and the portion sizes are completely to blame for my bulging waistline 😉 Also the staff are chatty and I am always greeted with a happy smiling face whenever I visit. Keep up the good work.

Stopped by while working in area, I got a fish butty. It was on the expensive side £6+ but it was worth it Good portion as you can see from picture, batter was crispy and just right not like some places wet, greasy or flat. Very much like our batter at home locals...... If you're from Manchester you won't like it. Staff were great, chatty and excellent service

Traveling to York for the weekend we rang ahead to check opening times. Spoke to a lovely girl who was so helpful. Arrived at the shop in time and ordered fish and chips. They were the best ever!! Fresh and cooked to perfection, what more can I say. Can't wait to go again 😍

Just moved into area and went here for first time. Waited in the shop whilst an existing customer had an order of about 10 lots of fish n chips. After 15 mins being stood there they asked me for my order but said there was no fish left. I left empty handed.

Staff are lovely and will cook to order if they have it. Super portions and very tasty.

We phoned an order in to collect, only to find it had been given to someone else who apparently had the same name. Their order wasn’t available though so I suspect ours was just given to the first people to show up. The owners said we should give both names in future - but we did that as a matter of course. So make sure you give a password or something when phoning in to make sure nobody else gets your dinner. What was doubly disappointing was that we’d enjoyed the food here on a number of occasions before.

I dont know if it was the quality of the ingredients or the quality of the cooking but they managed to make my fish greasy and dry and chewy at the same time. The chips tasted warmed up, without doubt the worst chippy I've had. Had to give 1 star as wouldnt let me put no stars

In the past I have steered clear due to one or two bad experiences with previous owners. After reading many good reports on Facebook, I decided to give it another try and was pleased I did. The fish was excellent, white, just firm enough and tasty. The batter was just right and beautifully crisp, chips were fresh and crispy. I would certainly recommend Bish ‘n’ Chips now.

If you do not mind standing for minimum 20 minutes in the cold for your "fast food" whilst delivery orders are given high priority then fill your boots people ,me personally i am sick and tired of the poor customer service and will not be giving my custom to this business any longer . Never received such poor service from a fish and chip shop who really are not bothered whether you buy from them or not .

Got our lunch from here today and I can honestly say these are the best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. The batter was crispy, the fish ultra fresh and I don’t know how he made the mushy peas but they were delicious!I would highly recommend this takeaway if you’re in the area- well worth a visit. Excellent food and friendly service.

Perfect place to shop a fish and ships in Bishop trope. Its in the middle of the town next to a Victorian church. The service is quick to serve the fish and chips you want. On the other side, saying that there is no place to wait your food, therefore you must wait outdoors. Fish and chips it is not oily, and there is a Huge quantity of chips. Since we moved into Bishopthorpe last year we have become regular customers of what is surely one of the best chippies in York. Tom and his staff are fantastic, the portion sizes are excellent and the FREE delivery service is fast and always on time.If you have not tried it yet you dont know what you are missing .

Staying on a temporary campsite on Moor Lane. Was recommended Bish & Chips by another camper, without question this is the BEST fish and chips you’ll ever have. Two large fish and large chips together with two battered sausage, curry sauce and mushy peas, all for under £20.00. Incredible value but more importantly amazing non greasy food. Could not recommend highly enough. Truly fantastic

SInce Been taken over the Fish and Chips are now really good and become a regular meal. It's worth noting the previous owners were slow and disorganised with often poorly cooked food. Highly recommended now!

Hace mucho tiempo que mi esposa y yo vimos una tienda de pescado y papas fritas tan concurrida y ahora sabemos por qué esta pequeña tienda tenía tanta gente afuera. El pescado y las patatas fritas eran excelentes. Masa crujiente y el pescado más sabroso que hemos comido en mucho tiempo. El personal es simplemente encantador. Servicio con una sonrisa. Encontramos un pequeño banco enfrente y nos los comimos bien calientes fuera de la caja. Si volvemos a estar en la zona, sin duda volveremos.

It's a long time since my wife and I have seen a fish and chip shop this busy and we now know why is little shop had so many people outside. The fish and chips were excellent. Crispy batter and the tastiest fish we've had in a very long time. The staff we just lovely. Service with a smile. We found a little bench opposite and we ate them piping hot out of the box. If we are in the area again we'll certainly be retuning.

Tengo un viaje de 15 minutos de regreso a casa y todavía están muy calientes cuando llego allí. El pescado está tan fresco y cocinado a pedido, así que comencé a llamar por teléfono a mi pedido de antemano. Las patatas fritas son hermosas, gruesas y nada grasosas. Tried Bish 'n' Chips last night for tea, fantastic! big pieces of fish and lovely chips (scraps too!). very fairly priced, we shared one portion of chips between us and they were more than enough, we can't recommend them highly enough, this is our go-to chip shop now.

I'll be honest, normally I can't be bothered to write reviews, but after my 4th visit I felt it only fair. Great little fish and chip shop. I go to Wetherby Whaler religiously and am very loyal, but during the recent Covid19 outbreak Wetherby Whaler has shut their doors and I was forced to try something new. This came highly recommended to me and they were right. The batter is awesome and the fish is meaty and fresh. Last week I decided to try the fish bites instead of my usual fish and chips with mushy peas...the fish bites were epic. The ratio of fish to batter was brilliant and they were still really good size chunks of fish. Usually I drive back to Clifton Moor and eat them when I get home but this time I decided to eat them in my car outside the takeaway which was a brilliant idea - the batter was even more impressive as it hadn't had chance to sweat - super crispy. The shop were explaining that they're under new management and they now deliver as well....naturally I asked for battered liver which was welcomed with more laughter than I'm sure it deserved... Worth noting that they are operating great social distancing rules might I add - 1 in 1 out policy when I was there with hand sanitiser available! The only thing that could make this better for me would be some proper chicken nuggets - that's one thing I usually get at Wetherby Whaler...they call them 'Adult Nuggets' and they are sensational, so if I was to ask for anything it would be that they start doing adult nuggets too (proper pure chunks of chicken smothered in batter) - but this is top notch for me. I've had Wetherby Whaler fish and chips, Thompsons fish and chips and now Bish n' Chips fish and chips and they are up there with the best! Can't recommend highly enough - get yourself a full belly as soon as you can! EDIT: Wetherby Whaler are now doing click and collect, but at time of review they were closed.

Absolutely fantastic! Really polite and helpful chap on the phone, really well organised delivery for lockdown. Hubby has been for bike rides past Bish n Chips and said they smelt amazing, so he said we should try them and they didn't disappoint. Really fresh and tasty and super fast delivery. Thanks guys

Slow service. The Yorkshire fish cakes are raw or over cooked so gave up on those. Tonight's fish and chips were greasy and the fish old or way to over cooked. It's too expensive just to put in the bin. Won't go back again.

Took 14 minutes for a box of chips and sauce! Nothing ready, slow service and when busy dont cope well. Expensive and half the chips were still not cooked properly. Disappointing.

I feel compelled to review this establishment as it appears to have had what is (hopefully) a temporary blip. My wife collected fish and chips last Saturday evening at about 5.30. The shop was not busy and appeared to be manned by temporary staff which might explain what I am about to write.

Not bad fish and chips at all. No matter what you order, there is always a long wait though. Why they don't have food ready to go I really don't know. They can only serve one person at a time as well.....

Great chips, our dog likes to share any time I get batterd sausage, quick service even with a line, get them home put abit of bisto gravy on them and let your taste buds do the rest :)

First visit to this "small" chippy. Very clean place but any more than six people waiting then the place is full. 1 person serving and 1 person frying made for a slow service. Fish and Chips on a scale of 1 to 10(10 being excellent) my score is 4. I would guess pricing is much the same everywhere 2 Regular Cod/Chips & 1 small Cod, just over £18.00.

I have never had worse food in my life. The meat is cooked in the same oil as the chips so not suitable for vegetarian. The manager lies. I was told they didn't mix the oils and then saw them do it. The emptied a bag of frozen chips in the oil then added some fish in the same oil. So I had to leave. I know the management will respond with lies. The seem to do that a lot. So have a look for yourself. It's a good job they are the only chip shop in bishopthore or they'll be out of business. The last owners were so much better and more accommodating.

Worth travelling some distance to visit this take away. The fish and chips were freshly cooked and tasted delicious. Clean shop and very friendly staff. Would recommend and definitely return!

The fish and chips were very good

Having had some very nice fish and chips a couple of times in recent months, was surprised and disappointed when my daughter bought some last Wednesday and they were dreadful, a waste of £11. My son then decided to risk it last Friday, with the same disappointing result, rather soggy and unappetising. Oh well, time to try somewhere else.

Excellent service quick to order and even faster to tuck into. Massive potions that fill you up as well as the box just what you need after a long hard game of cricket to replenish the energy levels, the lads at bishopthrope cricket club look forward to the end of a home game by heading down for post fish and chip super 10/10
