The Hi Ho Club in York

Came here for my 21st birthday drinks, great atmosphere and Charlie is great! she went above and beyond and I greatly appreciate everything she did to make my birthday special.

I was expecting more of a speakeasy or prohibition feel to the venue but despite possessing an impressive bar with an interesting cocktail menu, I’m not sure it’s found its style to deliver the atmosphere it’s undoubtedly after. And although the staff were great, it was perhaps the over-sized student group dominating the evening that left us feeling flat.

Charlie and her colleague were so welcoming and friendly ❤️ The cocktails were amazing, the setting was beautiful, and the music was amazing. I can’t wait to get back. If you don’t visit your missing a trick x Thank you guys a fabulous visit cx

We loved the idea of the hidden location definitely a little gem. Very cosy with a lovely atmosphere, the decor was brilliant and really suited the venue. We stayed and a had a few cocktails they were some brilliant old school classics and some new quirky ones to try. Would recommend this venue more for couples than groups. Bar staff was very polite and friendly he knew lots about cocktails and made our visit very entertaining

I run a Meet-up group in York for women and Charlie hosted 15 of us for a cocktail masterclass and pizza! We had our own password to enter the speakeasy and Charlie (and Sam) had set up the tables in a lovely way which meant we could move around and talk to each other. We had a welcome cocktail, made two cocktails in the masterclass and had a pizza each (lots of different toppings available and so tasty)! All the drinks were delicious and not typical ones you’ll find around in other bars in York. Charlie is a lovely women and a fantastic host as she’s warm, fun and engaging. I got feedback from all those who attended who want to come back for casual drinks and other evenings like the tarot reading and blues night that run weekly/monthly. The other thing I wanted to mention is that before I booked this event, I went with a friend to taste the pizza and cocktails that would be included in the cocktail masterclass. We didn’t realise Charlie only opened up for us and were really touched as she went the extra mile for us. So I’d definitely recommend for the great atmosphere, the delicious pizza, tasty cocktails and a local business whose owned by a lovely lady!

A thoroughly enjoyable visit last night. The cocktails are very good, the service is friendly, quick and very welcoming. Sam was lovely and very attentive, he kept checking in on us and made us feel very at home. The music from 8pm was just fantastic! We loved it. The only addition I would recommend would be that they add bubbles to the menu but apart from that, it was perfect. Thank you so much

We went for the Speakeasy, a wonderfully eclectic & atmospheric cocktail bar hidden below the City streets. Such a friendly & welcoming place and the pizzas we had were delicious! Charlie, Sam & Jess made it an experience to remember. Went 2 nights in a row as we didn't want to miss out. If this is your kind of thing, then put this place at the top of your list. Don't be fooled by the lack of a bar in the pizzeria, just ask for the Speakeasy & they will show you to the staircase.

A cozy little place with delicious pizza and excellent service. Coffee is good as well. Do recommend coming here with friends or family

Dropped into Hi Lo Club for some impromptu drinks. It was my first time visiting and what a pleasure it was! Super decor and the atmosphere felt exclusive but also welcoming. Cocktails were extremely good - in fact some of the best available in York. Hard Aperol Spritz and Salted Caramel Espresso Maritini were delightful variations on classics. I will be back here in a hurry. Absolute York must visit (but mostly I don’t want people to come because I want this place all to myself!)

Honestly the best place in York, everyone is lovely and welcoming and Charlie is one of the loveliest people I’ve ever chatted to. Made us feel so welcome - people should be queueing out of the door for entry!! Couldn’t recommend more :))

We had this booked for an event of 14 people. We were fashionably late which didn’t cause an issue. As we were a large group we had pre ordered which made it a lot easier. Once the cocktails, beer and wine started flowing the smell of pizza started to fill the room. I had their version of an espresso martini and it could possibly be the nicest I’ve ever had. The pizzas were all amazing, I didn’t hear a single bad word about the food or the drink. The theming of downstairs is great too. And a huge special thank you to the wonderful staff for being so accommodating to a group of fairly roudy lads. Highly reccomend this place for food or just drinks. The cocktails are great!!

Second visit to the Hi Ho club, loved it so much the first time! Will definitely be a regular stop on any night out. Feels like you’ve landed in a 1920’s secret meeting place! Brilliant atmosphere/vibe, music, cocktails as well as a being welcomed warmly by Charlie, the owner. Love her enthusiasm for the place, she’s got it spot on!

Came to hi ho club for a drink, after a day in York and absolutely loved it! Charlie was an amazing host and the drinks were delicious. The atmosphere and mystery of the bar isn’t one to miss!!

Booked a table in Charlie's for a girls catch up and are so glad we chose here! The staff are amazing, so warm, friendly and accommodating, a true credit to this gorgeous little place. The food was delicious, between us we had pizzas and meat boards and it was enjoyed by all of us. We followed with the hi ho club downstairs and the great staff and fab ambience remained. Gorgeous cocktails and great music. We had such a good laugh and will absolutely be returning and spreading the word about this little gem! Thanks for having us!

Cannot recommend the Hi Ho Club enough. Great atmosphere, music, setting, vibe, staff and drinks. The staff go out of their way to ensure you have a great time and the cocktails are fabulous (the staff will make any cocktail not on the list if they have the ingredients). The jazz music and decor all add to the great vibe of this bar. We had a restaurant booked or would have stayed for the night! We will be back!

Fabulous night. We had pizza which was delicious then went into the hiho club for cocktails. We were celebrating our anniversary so were treated to a free cocktail. The cocktails were delicious and the music was fantastic we spent 3 hours drinking cocktails and enjoying the music and the fabulous atmosphere 🧡 will definitely be back thank you for an amazing night

Lovely place, great food and drinks and wonderful attentive and friendly staff .... Give this place a try and you won't be disappointed.

Visited on a Saturday night for food and drinks. There was plenty of space and the staff were wonderful. Charlie chatted to us loads and answered all our questions about the food. The pizzas were delicious (although I wish they were slightly bigger... I wanted more!). We then headed downstairs for some cocktails. The atmosphere is amazing, and the cocktails were great. The bar staff were great at recommending cocktails based on our flavour preferences, and were happy to bring them to us when ready rather than us having to wait at the bar. Charlie told us about Burlesque classes that they run as well - I'll definitely be looking into those! This place has so much potential and I have no doubt it will be booming once the word spreads. So get down there pronto before it's fully booked every night... As it is definitely gonna become the place to be in York on a Saturday night.

Popped in with a friend for a quick lunch, my Prosciutto e Formaggio sandwich was near-perfect, decent glass of house wine and the garlic dough balls were spot on too. Looking forward to an evening visit!

Awesome little spot in York! Warm, friendly staff and great New York Italian food. Come with the kids during the day, but you have got to come back in the evening for an adults-only visit to the HiHo Club!

After a beautiful cheese board starter for two accompanied by a lovey bottle of Prosecco, then followed two delicious pizzas! The service and ambiance was fantastic. We’ll be back soon, we can’t wait!!

We went back after a lush meal and wine experience, this time was no different, its definitely becoming our go-to place of choice.

You could walk right past it but you would be missing a great little spot. Food is wonderful and the cocktails are a must. The team there really take care of their customers

What a hidden gem! Service and food was excellent, couldn’t fault it. Prices reasonable too. Would definitely recommend the njuda sausage bruchetta to start.

Had the coolest speakeasy experience with one of the best Martinis I’ve had in a while and the best pizza I’ve had in years.
