We used Bedern Hall as our wedding venue for our small, intimate wedding this year. It was a beautiful place to get married and throughout the organising of the wedding, Elly (Hall Manager) was very responsive and accommodating. I absolutely love that Bedern Hall is such a hidden gem in the centre of York, just a few minutes' walk around the corner from the Minster. Thank you so much Bedern Hall, you made our wedding a day to remember.

I had an afternoon tea for two bought as a Christmas present, I used this today with my daughter and we’ve had a lovely time. The service was faultless, I’m gluten free and the lovely lady (sorry we didn’t catch your name) had specially prepared a beautiful array of food. You could tell that everything was prepared with love, the quiche was beautiful! Everything was homemade, totally delicious and plenty of choice. Thank you so much for such a lovely experience.

I was lured in by the promise of lavender scones, which were absolutely delightful! Shortly after I arrived, a group of what I assume retired locals came in - always a good sign! And that was confirmed. My cream tea was absolutely delicious. I'm glad I walked by randomly and decided to get some late breakfast. If I were from here and not just visiting I would likely become a regular!

What a lovely little historic gem, quietly tucked away and beautifully kept! We had a little while with Morgan (Visitor and Volunteer Officer) when we first arrived and she brought Bedern Hall’s history to life for us as she chatted to us. The sun was streaming through everywhere and the waitress was so welcoming and moved us to the window table as soon as she could so that we could enjoy the view of the “borrowed” garden and its inhabitants (torty and white cat and a robin) and blossom/flowers/greenery - it was like being in a treehouse. The afternoon tea was delicious (we’re definitely lavender scone converts now!) and our waitress was always checking we were ok and kept the hot tea coming! It couldn’t have been a more pleasant way to celebrate my husband’s 76th!!!!

Nice wedding venue for my sisters wedding. Kitchen possibly a little small for any more than the guests we had (50ish). Would have been nice to have the bar open before the ceremony as it was 20degrees outside with no refreshments in the immediate vicinity. Also, I understand that music can't be loud, but placement could possibly have been a little better. Apart from these things though, it was a good location with privacy from the main hustle and bustle of York, with food catered for all dietary needs

Just lately we seem to be coming connoisseurs of afternoon tea, having sampled many in various locations. Bedern Hall is definitely the best so far and will take some beating.Everything was superb from the very warm welcome to the last delicious crumb. There literally was plenty of everything, delicious sandwiches, scones, cakes both plain and fancy, a bottomless teapot and all started off with a glass of fizz. Too much to eat at one go so I was willingly provided with a box of the remaining cakes to bring home.It was our first visit, which was a birthday celebration, but will definitely not be the last.

Myself and my husband visited for our wedding anniversary. It is a little off the beaten track, hidden away, we never knew it existed until we saw it on Groupon. We were greeted with a glass of prosecco and shown to our table, we had the place to ourselves for the most part. The afternoon tea was fantastic, a wonderful selection of freshly made sandwiches, pastries and scones with clotted cream! It was great to have soya milk on offer too, something I often struggle to find. It was very relaxing with medieval music playing throughout, we really enjoyed it and look forward to visiting again. Thank you!

We had a Groupon afternoon tea for two voucher which was fabulous value. As we had to book online, when we arrived we asked for cheese and tomato sandwiches for me, which the very friendly gentleman obviously made as extra to go with 3 triangles each of ham and tomato, coronation chicken, egg and cress, salmon and cucumber sandwiches. We also had 2 mini pieces of quiche, sausage roll, buttered scone with dishes of jam and cream, chocolate eclair, mini lemon tart, egg custard tart, profiteroles, fruit and lemon tart, mini chocolate tart, mini raspberry tart, macaroon. A massive plateful with tea or coffee and the option of a glass of prosecco which we changed for cloudy lemonade. We had to bring most of it home as it would easily have fed 4 people! Stunning setting and we were all alone with just authentic Tudor type music playing. This is an amazing place which I had no idea was even here! It has boards telling the history and redevelopment (plus all the historic items found) of this gorgeous little piece of history, located down an alleyway just behind monks bar. Mainly used as a function/event/wedding venue but also has the cafe in the beautiful hall and a few tables in the outside courtyard. Go and see it and stop for a cuppa or meal, but check opening times as they are limited.

I visited Bedern Hall to look at the Fulford Tapestry (depicting the Battle of Fulford, York in 1066) which was on display as part of the City's Jorvik Viking Festival. The added bonus was to see this 13th century gem, lying less than 100 yards from York Minster, and originally the College of Vicars Choral of the Minster. Today it is home to three of the City's Guilds - The Gild of Freeman; the York Guild of Building; and the Company of Cordwainers. Some of their artefacts are on display. Finally, the small cafe attached to the Hall offered a very pleasant slice of Gateau and a cup of Tea, served by very friendly staff.

This is good. We went for the Core menu and didn’t feel that we needed more. Each course was good, standouts were the potato, leek and whey and the venison for me. The menu as a whole was well judged and paced, service was great as well. We will be back and need to try the Black Swan as well. The iPad wine list is not a deal breaker but I’m not sure it is an improvement on a list. Nice gamay that worked well with the meal though.
