The best restaurants serving British food in England

A group of six for lunch. None could fault any elements - three courses, all plates cleared. Special mention to stuffed olives and pork belly (and beautifully creamed potatoes)

Normally I would spend time on a review but this place doesn't deserve any more of my time than necessary, the crux of the disappointment and problems with this restaurant, which are many, are as follows from my recent experience. 1] When I ordered two pints of lager they were swilled rapidly around the glass to give them a head ! Why if lager and glasses are kept and cleaned properly this is not necessary, this was pointed out to the barmaid who advised that is what she does otherwise you don't get a head ! Anyone who knows about lager knows this is garbage. 2] From ordering our meals at 1.00pm it over an hour for the plates to arrive 3] The portion size was incredibly small, my battered cod was no bigger that a minnow or small goldfish at best. 4] I asked the waitress for tomato ketchup and was informed that there was none available that she had placed the bottles that she had on the outdoor tables. I asked her if she would go and acquire a bottle and she refused advising that othe customers were using them. I am unsure how long it takes to use a bottle of sauce but from my extensive experience with Heinz ketchup it doesn't take long ! One of our party promptly stood up walked outside and aquired a bottle after politely asking another table, this was all done while the very rude waitress was attempting to argue her case for not going herself, it just simply beggerd belief. 5] The ketchup bottle which had obviously been used multiple tables was in my opinion disgusting at best, please see attached photograph. The full experience of this establishment from the badly poured pint on arrival, ridiculously small portions, extended waiting time for meals to arrive to the extremely rude unwilling waitresses makes this restaurant my family and I will never visit again. Venture to the establishment at your own peril !

I've just missed the season opening as I have to return home. I did pop in and have a cuppa and a chat with the nice lady that was cleaning the kitchen. I will return at a later date. Hopefully before the season ends. Alan. The lady will remember me j think 🤔

We visited the tea room today and had an amazing lunch and cream tea, we were made to feel welcome despite having dogs and a young baby with friendly service, well deserving of 5 stars.

Use to love this place now not so sure last couple of times food served cold and waiting 20mins also no choice running out of food at 6 o'clock not good

Just got a bag of chops today, obviously yesterday's warm ups, I have separated the so called best chips out of the bag the rest I wouldn't even give the dog,

We had a birthday party at no 35 and it was the perfect venue. Really well made drinks and cocktails, great food and the service was excellent; nothing was too much trouble Highly recommend for popping in for a drink too

Absolutely love The Vale! The staff are incredibly friendly and go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome. The food is always spot on, and the community vibe is second to none. We’ve been coming for a while and the events they host are brilliant—truly above and beyond. Highly recommend!

Never been in a pub that looks and smells so clean and fresh! Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Will definitely return to eat next time as the food looked amazing. Bearing in mind we visited in December the gardens looked so cared for and so very pretty. If you’ve not visited this pub it is one of the best original drinking holes that don’t cost the earth!!

Misrepresentation. Cheap, but the room is light years ahead of what we booked through the website. The images are really, REALLY not representative! The room smelled bad, the bathroom is from the 60's, there is mold and the shower has no pressure.

Not Hotel review. A customer, named Leo C asked delivery and he took the food and asked Just eat to refund. So shameful.

I came yesterday with my friends for afternoon tea, it was by far the worst afternoon tea experience we’ve ever had!! I was so shocked that this awful experience came from such reputable hotel! Very unexpected! I was so looking forward for a traditional afternoon tea and I choose the hotel based on reputation and location and invited my friends to come along, I’ve initially booked for 7 and two cancelled on the day for emergency reasons, the afternoon tea was then served, it didn’t look appetising or inviting, tea cups arrived with no saucers underneath, no cups for water for water bottles!! The food was served on one of these wooden blocks which was unexpected and unappealing for the traditional afternoon tea style we were expecting, those blocks were ugly and made it hard to access the items desolated inside and made it hard to communicate with ont another as there in ur face kind of thing!! The whole desolate looked like anything but a traditional afternoon tea style! Coming to the food itself We had soggy couple of sandwiche sliced each, unappealing purple dyed salmon setting on densed pastry (why would u dye the beautiful salmon colour in that unappealing appetising way, it was awfull, we also had arancini balls with meat in the middle despite me telling them we dont want anything containing meat or pork or alcohol when I booked, they apologised and replaced it later with vege version, Scones where ice cold, not fresh and it looked and tasted like what you get in these prepackaged scones from supermarkets,, we also had runny icecrem with few diced pieces of strawberries swimming in the middle, At this point we were off and didn’t want to complete the couple of items left in the sweet section because they also looked like something u just opened from packaging and placed on a plate in a rush!! When we’re ready to pay I was told I need to pay for seven although five came and I asked for afternoon for five on arrival as two cancelled due to emergency happened at the time, no one mentioned this when I booked and it didnt sound right that I have to pay for two extra when they didn’t turn up, The restaurant manager came and told me that he had to prepare for seven and I have to pay for seven because of this, at this point I flipped and wasn’t sure what exactly was pre prepared as everything there looked like ready made supermarket quality food not a top hotel restaurant quality food, and he can see they that there was food left over which shows that wr didn’t enjoy what wr had!! He the. Said I don’t know what’s ur explanation from an afternoon trea, I then Stopped him and said I’ve been to so many in my life most in hotels and I never received this below average experince, food in other place looked artisan, made for you, prepared, inviting, appetising, opposite to what we had! He then apologised and ask me to pay for the five wr had! I’ll never come back again nor my friends will, worst food and very unprofessional restaurant manager, he’s got zero customer service and satisfaction experince!! What a shame…
