Called without prior booking to this quaint pub/restaurant in the centre of South Wraxall. Old building with low ceiling, but nicely decorated. Friendly staff. Delicious fish pie with butter mash and seasonal greens. Large pieces of fish 4 different varieties.

Return visit to the Long Arms as the previous experience was very good. This visit the food still excellent, well prepared and presented. Unfortunately let down by the service - attention very poor - examples - when asking if we could order the young lady looked at her wrist - at the non existent watch - and said in a few minutes! The restaurant was not busy perhaps another three or so tables. No pleasantry just an off the cuff interaction that told us we will attend to you when we are good and ready!! Drinks service slow, when wine arrived it was plonked down on the table with no offer to check or taste and then pour the wine - normal procedure in a half decent restaurant. Trying to get the servers attention was a challenge - a few times eye contact was made in an attempt to order additional drinks, but the young lady chose not to respond and continued clearing a table. Could go on...…...... A real shame as the effort and attention to detail with the food was excellent - all the hard work, love and attention shown by the kitchen totally wiped out by the serving staff. Let the Chef take control and ensure that their dishes are served with optimum effect - use the servers as "plate carriers" to the Chefs direction.

We came here with friends for Sunday lunch. Beautiful pub and dog friendly. The time we went it was very busy and I can imagine a reservation is a necessity! In terms of food - I had a swede and haggis tart for my starter - this was very pleasant. The roast was also of a good standard and everything had been cooked well. Both for the starters and main meal some elements of our dishes were cold/not hot which was a pity. And we did find the wait between starters and dinner to be rather long. However, all in all I’d come here again.

First time visitors. Am so annoyed with myself despite living relatively so close to this place have only just tried it. Food was really excellent. Service the same. We are not a straightforward family (an intolerance, a vegetarian and a vegan to cater for), but nothing was a problem. Yes it is “pub food” but way, way better. Visited on a Sunday night and the full menu was on offer which is unusual. Portions generous. Everything was beautifully presented, even the side order ‘snacks’. Highly recommended!

This has to be one of our favourite places for a delicious meal. The welcome is always warm, the food is terrific , you are never rushed . This is no ordinary pub, this is deliciousness on a plate. What could be nicer? I will not wax lyrical as you need to discover this place for yourself but do book in advance or face disappointment. A real gem with lovely people who amazingly remember their returning customers and can tell where they sat each time they visited.

After reading reviews on this pub prior to our visit, my partner and I felt confident that we would have a good experience (I should point out that my partner and I rarely complain). We were shown to our table, then left to make our choices - the menu looked inviting. Once the food was ordered we had quite a wait. I had ordered the duck which, presentation wise looked good, although it appeared slightly under done and was extremely chewy, I could barely cut into it. My partner had the fish which again looked lovely, but tasted bland, I tried some and thought it was lacking any flavour, the sauce around it was pretty tasteless too. I ended up asking for something else, which the waitress agreed to. My partner then had to eat his meal whilst I waited for another dish to arrive (we didn’t want him eating cold fish and cold greens). After about 15 minutes the food arrived (and I do understand that you cannot make food appear in a couple of minutes). The pie and mash brought to me looked very appetising, with a separate bowl of greens and carrots. This dish tasted much better than the first, the pastry was lovely, although there wasn’t much inside the pie, mostly gravy, and about two very tiny bits of beef and a couple of bits of kidney. After we finished our meals we had another long wait. We had to ask for more water, and we also had to request desserts. Another long wait and the desserts arrived. Again these looked very appetising, and we did demolish them despite tasting something bitter in the sauce. Maybe the butter was slightly burnt in the process of making it. Anyhow, once we’d finished we just wanted to get going. I went to the bar to pay and waited a couple of minutes whilst the waitress appeared to be processing receipts. At no point did anyone ask how our food was, which is fine as it’s just a pub at the end of the day, but given this pub has won awards we thought the pub as a whole would have reflected this both in terms of food and service. For the price you’d expect better. We would not recommend this pub based on our own experience, and the disappointing food and service.

My first visit and I took my family (5) for Sunday Lunch. It’s definitely a notch above the typical pub roast and this is reflected in the price (50% more than other local options). It’s pretty good though and we would definitely return. Starters were tasty, and both roasts superb. Only let down by the desserts (we had three different ones), all of which were a bit bland.

The menu changes seasonally, and it is always a great experience to see what's new. tried this last night on recommendation , nice little pub, welcoming front of house and good staff, as with all my reviews which are honest the food is a notch above the norm & is very good but sadly overpriced ! £24 for burger and chips to which the chips are NOT hand cut is way too much . £17.95 is more than enough ! the main meals are robbery but at least dick turpin wore a mask, £29 is the max for grub in here, what they have to remember is this is a pub IN THE MIDDLE OF KNOWHERE IN A COST OF LIVING CRISIS, NOT A MICHELIN STAR RESTAURANT !!! also the wine is very overpriced so we didnt have any . if your not worried about spending on eating out id recommend it but if you are a green - king guru or a wetherspoons freak this place isnt for you !!!!!!!

The Longs Arms is the quintessential, Cotswold stone, tucked away village pub that has all yeomen dribbling in anticipation. We were seated in, what I think, was the extended bit to the main pub which had had all the appeal and glamour of grannie’s parlour. Dark, mahogany spindly wood furniture and usual naff country crap on the walls but the biggest design crime was that the floor was carpeted. In any eatery there is no place for detritus gathering floor fibre. To make matters worse the owners are clearly huge fans of country and western and we were at the receiving end of a playlist of nauseating southern American dross that would be best kept for the pensioners social club line dancing night. The menu is short and we both struggled with making our choices. We had cheddar croquetas which were okay and did what it said on the tin and pork cheeks, ghost chili vindaloo, onion bhaji, curry leaf, cashew nut and yoghurt. If that sounds confusing and an unlikely marriage of flavours, it was. The pork cheeks were playing hide and seek with the overbearing onion bhaji and overly spicy curry flavours. Keep it simple chef, this was an overbearing over complicated dish that didn’t work. The mains were a spinach and feta spanakopita, girolles, basil and tahini sauce with toasted almonds for her and Cornish hake, potato fricassee, peas & shoots, cockles, bacon, laverbread and seaweed sauce for me. Once again, a case of over engineering and smart arsery backfiring. The spanakopita lacked any crispy pastry casing and was a bit of a soggy mess. The hero of my dish, the hake, was drowning for recognition in an overly salty sauce with far too many ingredients. Our mains and those of our neighbours came out nuclear hot and remained steaming like a fresh cow pat for far too long which hinted at a final pre-serve microwave blast. We two spooned a reasonable salted caramel fondant with cinnamon ice cream and a gloopy valrhona caramelia sauce. I admire the ambition of the chef and the menu with pricing to match, but execution was lacking. Everything needs reigning in. A couple of two course meals, one dessert and two glasses of decent South African Sauvignon Blanc wine came in at £126 including service.

Decided to visit due to reviews, including photos, which look great. Unfortunately, dishes were over complicated with too many ingredients. This overpowered the main protein, so could have been eating chicken every time. Dishes were also unbalanced i.e. too salty. When an ingredient is high in salt other flavours need to add balance. Ambiance had a some what dead atmosphere and the country music play list (just country, nothing else) was too much! A mixed list would be a recommendation. Owner obviously loves country. The food quality maybe good and sourced locally, hence the high price but I don’t feel the cooking technique is right. Not worth the very high price. Money would have been better spent in Bath.

Starter of chicken liver parfait was good, but you couldn’t taste the cumquat or bacon jam, so expected better - for the price. The converted skittle alley was lifeless and soulless, with no photos or much decor on the walls. It had a wood burner at the end, but because it was a small boxed in area, it was like a sooty oven, which made it unbearably hot!! All in all, a bit disappointed by the standard of some of the food and definitely the atmosphere/setting.If you’re going to charge vet high prices, make sure it’s ALL good. Booked in advance and we were seated out the back. First point - in general, the food was very good. Fresh baked bread and wings were well received to start with. Pork belly and fresh fish were very good. The battered fish and chips - batter was not crunchy and served with fries, not chips - would really have liked chips (fries are French!) as listed on the menu (and in the traditional English section). Our biggest disappointment was the time taken between courses. In all, we were seated for close on three hours for snacks, main and dessert. The dessert was good, but not worth the nearly 60 minute wait with small portion sizes. The two staff working the floor were very friendly, but communication on delays was poor and we had to ask for side plates and for table to be cleared. To be fair, we think that they just didn't have the capacity to deal with so many tables and orders at once. If not for the significant delays (which were not compensated in any way), we would have rated the experience higher. But overall, we would be unlikely to return if in the area.

Really well prepared and high quality dishes.Very pleasant service though with only two people appearing to serve the entire restaurant it meant they were under pressure.I think an additional one or two members of staff would make it all perfect, particularly on a fully booked Saturday night.Nevetheless my belly of pork was probably the best I have eaten!

A return visit to the Longs Arms for a meal with old friends. As always, we were warmly received, and shown to a table in their newly renovated dining room. An excellent choice of wines and then a Christmas menu which showed off the quality of the dining. Absolutely superb. Highly recommended.

Booked late but they managed to fit us in. 6 of us (and our dogs) were seated in the main bar area. There’s another lovely room as well with wood burner which is equally cosy. Excellent service and outstanding food. I had lamb the rest beef and we also had a couple of lovely snacks to start and the most delicious bread and butter pudding (a tribute to Gary Rhodes who trained the chef). The dogs even had a treat! So relaxed, lovely food, service attentive without being intrusive. This is the perfect place on a cold winter Sunday to enjoy a perfect Sunday roast.

Spacious surroundings, good beers and a large and interesting menu. Very good portions, perhaps too large, and well cooked, locally sourced food. Attractive village setting. We chose pub food and were well satisfied; the veggie option was excellent and the staff took great care to meet our requirements.

First visit to The Longs Arms for Saturday lunch. Six adults & three small children. The staff could not have been more helpful. The children had their food in next to no time, so keeping them happy. Very good atmosphere with just the right selection of food, wine & beers. Highly recommended.

We have never eaten here before. It was an absolute delight from start to finish. Pleasant surroundings, friendly attentive staff who were amazingly cheerful. The food was innovative especially the vegetarian options, colourful, tasty, lots of different textures and beautifully presented, everything a first class meal should be. It has now joined the ranks of my favourite places to eat.

I’ve been to this place quite a few times, kind of fine dining but also informal. A pub that’s off the beaten track. Definitely worth the trip. I’m fairly certain it’s a free house (not owned by a brewery) in my opinion the food is certainly the best within 10 miles of Corsham, maybe more. There are some great places to eat around here too. The chef has super fresh food - cooked to order from locally sourced ingredients. Frequent menu changes according to what is in season. The seafood is also fresh although being 60 miles inland it’s obviously impossible to be locally sourced To my knowledge it’s delivered every day. Not loads on the menu but that’s always a good sign, I think. Absolutely delicious.Always! Only one slightly bad point is it’s often closed. Probably because the chef is out hunting for great ingredients! Not cheap but good value!

This was a cool October weekday lunchtime - not the time to expect a busy warm atmosphere so the friendly greeting was welcome. But that menu: it was exceptional. The three of us were spoiled for choice. Cleverly garnished and seasoned crab with a surprising and elegant presentation was a star. Unctuous ox cheek and tandoori quail were much enjoyed too. This amount of value-added does not come cheap but worth every penny. Look out for an equally well-chosen list of beers, ciders and wines..Pect

We visited for lunch. This is an old pub off in the countryside, that now offers a wide range of meals cooked to a high standard. There are pub staples - fish and chips, (gourmet) burgers etc but also an imaginative range of daily dishes. Food presentation was excellent and value for money not bad (around £35 for two courses and wine).Service was a tad slow and the waiter could have been a bit more sensitive interrupting conversations rather too forcefully on two occasions when a little pause might have allowed people to finish their sentences. From the clientele this is also a place that welcomes dogs.

Staff were lovely and had good knowledge of the menu, happy to cater for everyone. The food was delicious and came out in good time, the menu choice was good with a good selection of drinks too. If there could be one thing to improve on it in my opinion would be to be the desert menu, the desserts were good but didn’t cater for everyone (but that is a personal opinion). The food was amazing but the staff really made the place, really is one of Wiltshire’s finest especially in its area on par with the tollgate! Will be returning!

Excellent food and great, friendly service. Given the quality and its accolades, it was pretty reasonably priced as well. I'll be returning as soon as I can.

I have eaten here a few times before and found the food to be excellent, so much so that I acquired 2 sample menus and placed them in my welcome folders at my Airbnb apartments in Bath. Guests from various destinations such as Sydney, New Jersey and Cape Town have recently mentioned in their personal reviews to me of the "wonderful experience" they have had while dinning at The Long Arms and that next time I visit I should try the belly pork (signature dish they informed me).Last night I treated my 3 god children and 1 girlfriend to a feast (12yrs, 15, 18 & 19) being that teenagers can be fussy these days I was delighted to watch them devour dishes of monkfish, lamb, mutton, pork belly, along with soufflé's and various desserts. Every plate returned to the kitchen finished, marvelous chef, well done !My guests comments were indeed spot on as the belly pork was the star of the evening and i would encourage any future dinners to dive in and experience the tender and tasty pork that's well supported with wonderful creamed mash and fresh young beans all sat on a liberal helping of rich, silky jus, as they will not be disappointed. The ambience is perfect for a country pub and Charlie (a friendly face from his days at the Muddy Duck) is charismatic, knowledgable and was very good with the teenagers. All in all a "Wonderful experience"

One of the worst fish and chips I've ever had. Fish full of bones and batter was so greasy that I don't think they bothered to drain off the fish. Staff couldn't have cared less, food was binned.

Nice spot, lovely staff but!! Building in need of updating, and the food is of very low quality, and overpriced, also waited a long time and then part of the order we placed was not ordered by the staff member taking orders! This is a historic venue but sadly it was probably at its best in 1965 😢

Visited during the Car Festival. Just a basic bar in a large building serving in plastic cups. Cheaper than expected.

Oh my word! Having been pulled in by the kerb-appeal of all the delicious-looking delights in the window, my partner and I hoped to find something nice for lunch. How disappointed we were....... This verged on a blend of Fawlty Towers and a Karen's Diner. There are warning-galore, all written on paper bags stuck over the walls and on the display areas. "Do not touch, this is not self-service, don't fiddle with the toaster settings, children and knives don't mix, we are not trained fire-fighters, no toilets here.....", all headed up by a small, rather stroppy and officious tyrant of a woman! I wondered what we had stumbled upon so headed for Tripadvisor and all was revealed! The reviews don't lie! I then amused myself over a bowl of mediocre soup and unremarkable bread, by reading the words of previous customers. I CONCUR! We ate our lunch squashed onto a pew with other equally bemused/ confused/ amused diners and made a speedy exit - my partner more speedy than me as he didn't want to risk her wrath at the till, heaven-forbid he did something wrong! I'm still not quite sure what we experienced and I don't think I'll return. Go for a nosy if you have broad shoulders and fancy taking on Miss Trunchbull of the bakery world!

Excellent Sunday lunch. As a walking party of four with a dog, we were made very welcome in the main restaurant. Staff were responsive, kind and even brought a bowl of water and a treat to our table for our dog. The food was excellent. Between us had the roast beef, roast turkey and gammon Sunday lunch. The roast potatoes were lovely and crispy and the vegetables plentiful, varied and cooked to perfection. The desserts were fabulous. One of the best tiramisu deserts I have had and my friends highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie trifle. Ignore the low star reviews. This is a lovely place for dinner/lunch.
