The best restaurants serving British food in England

This is the main restaurant for the Spa Hotel - a lovely hotel in Tunbridge Wells. We expected it therefore to be at least good and cancelled a restaurant booking in town to try it. There were very few customers when we went at 6.00pm on a Saturday evening. The restaurant itself is lovely inside and has great views and friendly, helpful and good humoured waiting staff who were brilliant with our 4 year old daughter. The problem is the food. It is expensive but hardly even mediocre. Our bread platter had bread that was so dry our daughter couldn’t eat it and we returned it. My starter was a meat terrine that was frankly a dull slab and rather tasteless. My wife had salmon mosaic starter that again was bland. Our main courses were pork belly - with mashed potato that tasted like Smash - and a vegetable petit pain concoction that was small and tasteless. My daughter had ‘fish and chips’ where the fish pieces were mainly a very dry batter like substance. Again she left most of it: I ate some to see why and regretted it. Dessert for her was fine but it was just fruit and ice cream. So the meal was expensive, very disappointing and very slow indeed to be served - amazingly so when at first we were the only diners. This is such a shame as breakfast in the morning is fine and again the serving staff are excellent. We will definitely stay at the hotel again but next time we won’t be having an evening meal in the restaurant!

Me gusta Gails en general, pero esta rama no está demasiado limpia. Hay migajas por todo el suelo. Llegué al mostrador y fui ignorado por alguien de pie allí hasta que otra persona vino - aunque amable y agradable. Todo el tiempo que pude escucharlos discutir la bebida ordené que alguien no supiera cómo hacerla y así sucesivamente. Entonces llegó que no podía beberlo - sabía muy mal. La comida estaba bien / agradable. La taza servida estaba sucia por fuera como si tuviera café de otra bebida. Escribí esta reseña porque espero que mejoren, profresionalismo y limpieza.

The coffee is DISGUSTING. No wonder it's £2. Had no taste to it whatsoever Didn't even smell like coffee. Didn't rate the place at all. Glad to get out.!!!

Was served by a young man called Brandon. The worst customer service ever. We ordered and he then said in a rude abrupt way “what else?? “ we paid no thank you or please. Didn’t inform us my transaction had gone through. I asked him if it was ok all he said was “yep”. I asked him again to see if he would say thank you, all he said again was “yep”. Bloody shockingly rude guy!!!!

Over priced, poor quality and very bland food. processed chicken in sandwich :( jacket potato small and cold coffee warm not hot

Mi padre y yo teníamos un inglés completo y fue encantador. Servicio amable y rápido. No me gustaría nada mejor, sin duda recomiendo

After getting mugged off twice previously, I thought I'd give it one more chance to redeem itself. Well, I wish I hadn't bothered. 2 microwaved saveloys both split, what they call large chips, but I would call medium at best. And the best bit was the large cod which was6"" long and the same width and a quarter of that was batter. £14.70 for that. What a rip off, oh and they only take cash! I guess they don't have to declare it all. I'll never waste my money there again.

Este lugar es terrible ahora, solía ser un bar de rock y vibra fresca, ahora lleno de personal grosero que te hace sentir inútil, la chica con el pelo teñido se sienta y habla ¡Sobre ti mientras te ríes con tus colegas, no tengas hielo en el bar! El bar lleno estaba vacío, literalmente muerto. Ella nos sirvió una ronda y luego procedió a decirnos que estábamos demasiado borrachos considerando que teníamos 1 bebida. No volveré a este pub, solía ser genial, pero ha bajado colina abajo junto a los sofás rojos de pvc hortera.

Getting to the station with a pram you need to go on a long convoluted route which is not well lit up and you cannot buy a ticket!returning from London there are only stairs!! Not helpful and certainly not disability or family friendly

Arrived not too busy had a table for two. Chosen off the lunch menu. I had haddock and chips husband had cod cooked in curry batter with chips. Didn’t have to wait to long. My haddock was very tasty husbands cod not so nice. We also had a dessert apple crumble and custard, well what can I say!! The crumble was uncooked so was returned with a complaint. Just said sorry and didn’t charge us, I should think not. We also noticed a chap had sent his starters back as it was still frozen, I think the chef was having a bad day Sorry to say we will not be returning. Shame really

Entramos solo para echar un vistazo rápido, pero disfrutamos de una taza y un pastel en la cafetería de la planta baja. Los muebles estaban un poco gastados, pero todos los demás aspectos eran una delicia. Grandes pasteles que incluyen opciones veganas. ?

Lovely gift friendly service and the cream tea was delicious all very clean and across the road was a park so we did a walk as well

Have a great atmosphere and the food is the best here. I have with my family for this restaurant and the service is extremely good

Went for the first time today and the food was lovely. Fish and chips in beef dripping was superb. Good portions and the service was excellent. Well worth the visit.

Fifteen minute wait for sausages, bacon and eggs. The Que of people waiting ment that by the time we got to the front again there were no bacon, eggs , sausages . The chef was cooking a dozen at a time. The potato hash was really undercooked. This was the worst Toby by far
