With three members of staff working behind the counter, and one customer being served, we waited several minutes without being acknowledged at all. When we asked for sandwiches we were told to ‘wait a moment’ and when we pointed out that the tone of this was rude and that we had been waiting a long time, were told sanctimoniously that ‘civility works both ways.’ A lot of aggravation for a powdery dry sandwich.

We really could not understand how these poor young men were left to manage this bar by themselves. The place was messy and not inviting. We saw a lady come in and check on them, then immediately left without offering any help. Is the RSC so strapped for cash that they allow this world class venue, historic venue become so amateurish and stressed.

We hopped in for a coffee on our way out of town. The décor is set off by some very interesting artefacts and historical notes - didn't really rate the coffee though.

This is at the secondary entrance to the RSC Building. Whilst there was a limited selection of menu we thoroughly enjoyed Tea and Scones. Inexpensive given where it is. Worth a visit.

Good and convenient before watching a play. The cafe has a several picture frames on the wall and one of them was a head moving william shakespeare.

Easily missed as most people use main RSC entrance and don't walk though the shop towards the Swan Theatre. Coffee is a bit hit and miss in terms of strength and quality and the selection of cakes and biscuits is fairly limited. During the day you can guarantee getting a table but it is busy when performances are on at the Swan Theatre. Worth at least one visit to look at the architecture and artefacts.

Lovely and quiet away from the Riverside café but they do have cakes on display which are not covered; ditto Riverside café. Simply not hygienic!

Dropped in for pre-theatre drinks & to order some for the interval. For the number of people waiting for drinks the service was good, not taking to long to serve people waiting. Our interval drinks were ready & waiting for us on the table beside the bar. The drinks were in glasses which meant as we were taking them into the theatre I had to transfer them into paper cups.

We like this bar for a drink both before a performance and during an interval. The service is perhaps a little slow sonf the process a little on the high side but it is always friendly and cosy.

Nice atmospheric bar with good well mannered staff. Drinks a tad more expensive than your local but this is the theatre darling. Maybe a tad understaffed during the interval of a show as the queue was out the door and had to wait a while to be served.

A delightful place which is part of the ambiance of RSC Stratford: sadly disappointed with warm white wine, as were a number of people. We will and must return and hope it improves - the price is steep, which is no surprise but quality was, on this occasion was lacking

Nice lively bar. You can walk outside on a hot summer's night. Pre order your interval drinks. Quick, friendly service. We found all the theatre staff so charming. The sense of anticipation before the performance is tangible. Programmes are only £4 and full of fascinating insight.

Given that theatre times are immovable you must expect it to be crowded. The staff try hard to meet the demand from a multi cultural audience with wide variations of expectation. Charges are not out of line with theatres, which are never a bargain, but it is a special occasion so enjoy.

Not a good start to the evening The bars in the theatre have no atmosphere, staff with no interest and poor wines. What a shame. A little effort wouldn't go amiss. It was rather like having a drink in a bus station.

There are very few tables and chairs in this bar. I'm not sure why as there is plenty of room. The tables are not serviced either. It felt more like a platform waiting room. Shame as I would have thought most people would like to enjoy a pre-theatre drink.

We thought we would treat ourselves to a nice afternoon tea. Glad we did, as we knew we didn't have to go over the top but could share an afternoon tea for one, without any bother. One each was too much, but we did order extra tea, This also came with complimentary water (nice touch). It was lovely, good cake selection and loads of clotted cream for the scones. Service good and pleasant staff. Good value for the money. Lovely views too. Service tip included in bill

Lovely bar, not overpriced (considering its a theatre), good coffee and cake, nice sweets as well as the alcohol. Friendly staff and comfy seating with exhibitions on the wall and a chance to chat with other theatregoers. Really intended for those attending the theatre, especially the Swan, but if you're passing its worth popping in for a quiet drink anyway

A fascinating pub that we were told was once owned by Henry VIII and given to Catherine of Aragon on their divorce. Then owned by Magdalene College Oxford for hundreds of years. It’s certainly old with flagstone floors, lots of panelling and a no longer accessible secret passageway to the church across the road. Top that with decent beers, a short freshly cooked menu and friendly service
