Stopped off with the dogs on a walk from local campsite on a Sunday. We parked ourselves on the garden for a well earned drink, of which a rather fine selection of Gins were on offer if that's your tipple. Hoping for a Sunday roast, we were initially disappointed as only a BBQ was on offer but decided to take a chance. The food was cooked fresh in front of us, complete with salad etc, and was quite superb and very reasonably priced. An added bonus of the pubs Jack Russell keeping our Lurcher entertained made for a lovely couple of hours. The pub appeared unusually quiet, possibly due to the Olympics, and appears to be a family run affair who were very warm and welcoming, recommended.

My wife and I went to the Gamecock for Sunday lunch. We'd been a couple of times before but this is my first review. The restaurant behind the bar in the Gamecock is small but light and pleasant, with simple furnishings. The service is excellent. My wife has coeliac disease and so must have gluten free food. The chef made quite sure that she had a good meal, too, even making a special gluten free portion of cauliflower cheese for her.The meal was delicious and plentiful. I can particularly commend the starters - gambas pil pil for me (prawns in a lovely spicey sauce with little tomatoes and chilli), chorizo and cheese omelette for my wife (also tasty and light).

We had two "risotto" dishes, however the risotto turned out to be just plain rice, with no stock used to add flavour or vegetables in it at all. Having waited almost an hour (with no explanation for the long wait in a fairly quiet restaurant) for the meals to be served after ordering we were too hungry to send it back and ask for a replacement. The other two meals were fine, but the chef needs to do some more research if they are going to offer anything different from English pub grub.

We booked a table for 4 at lunch time to have Sunday dinner, it was superb and it was the best Beef Sunday I've had for a long time. Because we booked the table over a week in advance we received free deserts for all of us so worth bearing in mind. They have a fantastic rang of drinks including a vast array of Gin's to try and we sampled a few sat next to the wood burning open fire in the bar area. It's a family ran local pub that is very welcoming, the staff can't do enough for you as I have to eat gluten free they even ran over to the local coop to get me some gluten free bread to serve me with my starter. Thank you so much for making it a special Easter Sunday dinner and looking after us so well. I'd highly recommend this for food or just a drink as its a lovely place to visit.

Great value for fish and chips on a Tuesday for £5. It's river cobbler, not cod or haddock, but it tastes like plaice. Huge portion, chips and 2 types of peas. Not tried the burger on Thursday for the same price as yet, but it won't be long.

Me and my extended family booked a meal, very easily on Facebook with a prompt response and popped in for mothers day. The Sunday lunch was fabulous. Warm, friendly family atmosphere where nothing is too much trouble. Everyone went for the roast beef, which was beautifully pink in the middle, with all the trimmings and cauliflower cheese - a rarity but a beauty. My wife wanted extra gravy which was not any trouble at all. The roast pots were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle, and the portions were generous without being over crowded. All in all a great little place, with great staff and great food. I always judge Sunday lunches at pubs, as it's not often you'll find a place that matches home cooked grub. And considering it does meals on a large scale, which are consistently great, this place really does cut the mustard. Also, the fish and chips on Tuesday are second to none. Cheers Rob and Libby and all the staff.

Absolutely loved our Sunday roast at The Gamecock. Relaxing atmosphere, super dog-friendly, warm service and delicious home-cooked food. The beef was tender, Yorkshire pudding tasty, crisp golden roast potatoes and parsnips and generous portions of veg and cauliflower cheese (a surprise but a welcome addition to the plate). Our servers were attentive without hovering and nothing was too much trouble. My beef was rare and my mother in law's well done (exactly as requested). Extra gravy was brought over in a jug on request, my husband wanted to try the triple-cooked chips instead of roast potatoes for some reason.. all provided without a moment's hesitation. We booked before Friday so our puddings (classic British puddings made from scratch) were free which was the icing on the cake, served with ice cream, cream or a huge jug of custard! We were so comfortable we spent nearly 3 hours over lunch at the pub and had a great chat with the chef who came out for a very well deserved pint at the end of his shift. There are some great walks around Harbury so would recommend a good stomp around and some fresh air before a leisurely, quintessential Sunday roast at the Gamecock. 10/10!

Tuesday night special of Fish and Chips - can't be beaten. £5 for large portion of firm, white fish in a delicious light and crispy batter with a healthy portion of chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. Excellent meal the other night- all the food was delicious, especially the bean soup which had a lovely smokey flavour. It came after various antepasti and was followed by excellent home made pasta with beef. Unfortunately we were fed so well in the previous courses that only two of our party could do full justice to the pasta. We did however manage the beautifully light and not too sweet dessert of tiramisu. Coffee and limoncello followed and we staggered home feeling rather too well fed!

Thought I'd try the Gamecock after reading good reviews about the food. Went on a Saturday evening and was surprised that it was fairly quiet. Eating area fairly minimalistic with basic chairs and tables but there seemed to be a nice ambience about the place. Menu was fairly basic but good enough. We all ordered the fish and chips and didn't have to wait too long. The fish and chips we excellent! Crip light lager batter with lovely moist cod fillet inside. The triple cooked chips were amazing. All four of us really like the meal. At £8.95 this was good value. They have the fish and chips on as a Tuesday special at only £5. Had sweets of apple crumble and chocolate brownie which were good. Will be visiting again soon for more fish and chips though the burger's looked good too.

My wife and I visited the gamecock. I asked for a rare steak. And it came... Rare! I usually go 'one under' as the English usually overcook it. So was expecting a medium rare. It's so nice to find somewhere that can get it right. Still delicious, and the chips were amazing. We were looking for somewhere to go for Sunday lunch and this little pub was mentioned a few times on Facebook. The menu was available on their Facebook page, it was a mix of Spanish and traditional Sunday roast. The place is quite small and in the middle of a village, parking was easy even though the pub does not have a car park. The drinks on offer was good the food excellent I had the prawns as a starter, not usual for me, there was lots of prawns and deliciously spicy. This was followed by traditional roast beef. Proper slices of beef, cooked medium, the veg was a fantastic cauli cheese separate to a medley of brussels, leeks, carrots and broccoli. A real full plate of food. The Pork belly was also well received. If you want a traditional Sunday lunch or something a little bit spanish, this is the place to go. Good food good value. The Gamecock does do special nights see there web site or Facebook page for other menus. Wish our local was as good.

We enjoyed a fabulous Sunday Lunch at the recently refurbished and newly managed Gamecock in Harbury today. For starters we shared a Spanish Tapas board including Manchego cheese, olives and cold meats and followed this with a wonderful plate of Slow braised lamb (which just fell apart), chorizo, baby onions and peas and sauteed potatoes, all served with cauliflower cheese and seasonal veg - fabulous! It was hard to choose between this and the roast sirloin of beef, roast pork belly and seared seabass which all also looked rather fantastic. Thanks to Rob the proprietor and his young team of excellent staff who all gave a warm welcome. When we arrived they were highchair-less but Rob went the extra mile by crafting a high chair for our one year old son from a wine box - ingenious! Our 3 year old daughter enjoyed the conker championship which was hotting up in the garden. We'll definitely be coming back for more of the same.
