Poor in comparison to what it originally was some years ago when privately owned. We thought the food was very average and somewhat overcooked, prices high both for drinks and food. Very nice inside and a good atmosphere, friendly staff but that I am afraid is where it ends, Certainly would not rush back or recommend

Stayed for 2 nights and ate / drank there too. The room was excellent value, the bed was huge and one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in, and best of all it was very quiet. The breakfasts were superb (especially the scrambled eggs) with generous portions. In the evening, the restaurant food was also excellent, with a good selection of beers. The atmosphere was lively and friendly. it's worth noting that when I first booked the room, this was with the previous owners (Stonegate Pub Group). Unfortunately, even though I received email confirmation of the booking, they failed to pass on the information to the new owners, which meant there was no record of a booking when we arrived . Thankfully the current owners dealt with this difficult situation efficiently and effectively.

We were very disappointed with this place. We love supporting local businesses, but unfortunately cannot recommend this place. The staff was rude, we were sat in an echoey room and asked to keep it quiet. We waited for our table for an hour, but no apology was given. The staff was not engaging, inattentive, unhappy and quite frankly rude. Food was ok, portions were small, but the quality was good. Not great experience

Visited for Sunday lunch Really lovely selection on the menu, we opted for the meat grazing board which was really tasty, the ham in particular was 👌 then a child's chicken burger and roast beef dinners. The beef was cooked to perfection, melt in the mouth, lovely colour on the potatoes and the veg was buttery and well seasoned, really tasty gravy too. We had sticky toffee, mixed Berry pavlova and cherry bakewell for puddings, all delicious. The waiting staff were welcoming and friendly and the pub was cosy, tastefully decorated, toilets were lovely and clean. We will definitely be back

A very well furnished and pleasant interior with strategically placed tables for both privacy and access. Also in a commanding location in a lovely unspoiled village. The food menu was very varied and of a high quality standard. My steak and ale pie was superb. The Chicken schnitzel also received a top rating. Friendly and pleasant service from the staff and on a very rainy day we were left to enjoy coffees at a very unhurried pace. Price wise, slightly above the norm but reflects good quality food in a comfortable environment.

Tanworth in Arden is a beautiful peaceful village and the Bell sits at it's centre. We booked a bit last minute after a change of plans, was surprised at the value for a weekend stay with Bed and breakfast booked. Having arrived at the pub , it would appear I had booked as it had just changed hands. The new owner has certainly hit the ground running, but then it transpires he comes with a good amount of experience. The owners and all their team we met were friendly welcoming and attentive. Service was first class. The food we ate whilst stopping was excellent. Rooms were tidy and the beds comfortable. All of this really made my weekend. This was one of the pubs I frequented in my youth, and although the furnishings have changed since the days of crossroads, I certainly felt the same sense of welcome , it's so refreshing to find an independent especially in such a beautiful location. Thanks so much.

We received a warm welcome from Bernie and Kate at the newly opened Bell today. The bar and restaurant have had a fantastic facelift very much in keeping with the stunning village location. Lunch was a choice from the al a carte or the 2 course set menu. We choose from both! Delicious food, presented in the most beautiful way. I was so pleased to have a Greek salad included as part of my chicken schnitzel, most unusual and very appealing (it came with fries too). An extensive coffee menu to choose from as too full for dessert, but we will certainly be back to sample the very tempting sweet treats. We hope that Andrew and his team are supported at this beautiful restaurant/pub. It is so worth a visit for drinks and or food.

Sadly, we visited Tamworth in Arden and brought a picnic! I say sadly as I forget the milk for our flask tea. Not to be thwarted, I called in at The Bell to, very cheekily ask if I could have a spoonful of milk for my tea!! The staff said, absolutely no problem, and would not take any payment. They actually gave me a small bottle, just in case I didn’t have enough!!! What I can say, is the food looked absolutely amazing and the atmosphere was lovely! I wish we had not brought the picnic and enjoyed the menu at The Bell. If you are visiting the area, call in and enjoy this beautiful place. Thank you so much for the milk!! Our next visit will be definitely without a picnic!! Paul and Steve from Yorkshire.

Absolutely shocking afternoon tea - visited The Bell for afternoon tea for my Mums 84th birthday booking well over a month in advance and had high hopes given the positive reviews . The lady serving us was very polite and that’s where anything remotely positive ended . Two large plates of stale curled up sandwiches arrived and some form of greasy cut up flatbread with pieces falafel on which was just soggy . The ‘cakes’ arrived where we were advised they had run out of scones so we had two scones with no clotted cream or butter and the scones were replaced with donuts that were rock hard . This was not my idea of afternoon tea, there were some other form of cake which was just cheap and nasty . The whole thing lacked any care. We were offered a replacement so we had fishfinger sandwiches and a chicken sandwich all were completely soggy by this time I gave up.

It had been a couple of years since my last visit and it's quite a transformation. The village Post Office has gone and been replaced by extra seating, one end of the bar has been removed and the other opened up plus the place has been freshened up. I was only there for drinks so was extremely happy to find that I'd arrived in time for "happy hour" which was on until 7pm. Outside of that you will find the drinks are not that cheap and I can't comment on the food because I only ate crisps! The pub clearly is for food first and drinking second, so that should set peoples expectations. My recommendation for eating would be to book as it was very busy when I was there for Sunday lunchtime.

My partner and I visited a couple of years ago and had one of the best roast dinners I have ever had. We decided to visit today knowing that since our last visit, the pub had changed ownership. And what a downgrade. Today’s meal was the worst meal out I’ve had in a long time. For my beef roast I was given two tiny pieces of meat. The roast potatoes tasted really strange - almost sweet?! Gravy lacked flavour and I didn’t touch the mash, parsnip or carrot as they looked so unappealing. The dessert was no better. The S’mores brownie promised toasted marshmallow - in reality they shoved those cheap nasty little marshmallows on top with no toasting in sight. My partner had the crumble of the day and said there was hardly any fruit and the crumble tasted off which I didn’t know was really possible. Service was meh too. What a disappointing experience. I will not be returning.

Excited to visit for Sunday roast this afternoon - soon did this become disappointment. Triple roast has three scrawny pieces of meat, seemed to have come from a defrosted and reheated starting point without any distinct taste to any. Undercooked roast vegetables that you could not put a knife through plus the worst roast potatoes ever put on a plate.

My husband and I booked a room at The Bell for an overnight stay, on arrival we were greeted by warm and welcoming staff who explained the facilities and what this lovely venue had to offer. The pub was busy with a really nice atmosphere. We were pleasantly surprised at our room, it was a really good size, well presented, spacious and ultimately spotless. We enjoyed a few drinks in the bar area which again was really clean and tidy, no dirty tables or empty finished glasses. Staff were very attentive when ordering food and drinks. We decided to try the food, lots of options on the menu we tried a sharing plater and loaded tiger fries.......both were amazing, well cooked and served hot, excellent value for money. In the morning when we went down for breakfast again greeted with a a warm welcome by Edwina we didn't try breakfast as we were still full from our evening meal, but our morning coffees were lovely and the food we saw coming from the kitchen to other guests looked and smelled fantastic. As locals, we have tried The Bell on a handful of occasions since it transitioned from a successful privately managed pub to one run by Stonegate, a big chain of outlets, formerly the landlord. We have commented adversely in the past (since that change happened) but because we want to give our local pub a chance we have returned on occasion as we have today. Two members of our party ordered the 'fish goujons' and their meals had to be sent back. It looked like a whole end of a fish of indeterminate origin with batter rather than the normal smaller pieces. But the quality was awful. After a test mouthful, one of the two meals was clearly uneatable but we didn't sample the other because it looked as though it was. One of our party asked for some bread instead and was given four slices of white bread which still bore the signs of being in the freezer immediately before. The problem is (1) a massive menu and a standard approach for all of the several thousand outlets owned by this group without regard to the needs of a country pub and (2) a chef who doesn't seem to know what customers have the right to expect. Despite our wish to give this pub another chance, and the fact that the pub has been nicely refurbished, we have run out of patience and won't be returning at least for food!

Having lived in this village for 19 years, it is a shame to have to put on a review that is so negative for my local pub. My family of 5 went for a meal on Jan 10th at The Bell, having eaten there on Christmas Day and many years prior, we had high expectations which are usually met. Unfortunately, we got off to a bad start as two members ordered the mussels, which came out almost stone cold (as well as their partnering of fries), and the "fresh bloomer bread" was first of all forgotten, and upon being reminded, the staff brought out cold sliced bread that had clearly come off any old loaf. The "Cheesy Truffle Tiger Fries" were yet another disappointment to two members of our party. The truffle oil was undetectable, and the cheese certainly not melted... apparently they are under the "to share" section of the menue at £8 each... regrettably they do not fulfil this either. Moving on to dessert, two members chose the "Luxury Biscuit Sundae" which sadly lacked in cheesecake pieces and came with a lump of frozen fruit that was inedible (I mean a handful of raspberries frozen together like they were just dug out of the freezer). Upon bringing this to the attention of staff, we were told it was supposed to come like that...even though frozen fruit ice block wasn't in the description. Finally, the tantalising sounding "S'mores Chocolate Brownie" had what appeared to be tinned cherries (not Cherry Compote), no vanilla ice cream and no biscoff crumbs either! Oh and the toasted marshmallows were those mini ones you can buy at the supermarket - sadly instead of toasted they were hard and stale. The staff who served us were lovely and accommodating, these downfalls are that of the Chef. Since this pub has been taken over by the Stonegate group standards have fallen and the menu is NOT an accurate description of what you get but rather false advertising! P.S. two members of my family went for a roast a few weeks ago... their bill was scrapped as their meat came out cold (once they had to pick between two as Chef had run out of the rest) and their vegetables were raw...

The menu and food was poor. Hardly any vegetarian dishes. I ended up ordering a starter and a sharing chips. Not difficult to do a few pasta dishes, halloumi burger rather than fake meat, veggie skewers, curry, etc! The mushroom bruschetta was average. The truffle chips with melted cheese was not ok. Small amount considering it was a sharing dish and £8, and cheese wasn’t melted and so it didn’t work well. No care and attention given at all. My friend is gluten intolerant and found the same, lack of options and very restrictive if you dont want to eat meat! Another in our group ordered the salad as a main as she’d had it the week before and it was good. This time it was half the size and missing so many of the ingredients, no peppers, avocados, hardly any tender stem. Very disappointing and we returned it but took them 3 times to get it right. Manager was very apologetic. Another in our group ordered the beef burger with bacon and cheese which had no bacon, looks very unappetising, no side salad/coleslaw and half the plate was empty.these aren’t hard to get right, as you can stack the ingredients and they look impressive. Not in this case, she compared it to a McDonald’s burger. Manager took back and replaced and was better second time. The food here is not cheap, and very poor quality. We will not be returning as there are other restaurants/ pubs nearby serving much better food for better value. Service was ok, we were left a number of times waiting for a waitress to serve us/ let us pay. However they just need better training to keep returning to tables to check. the resturant wasnt even half full. We’ve been eating at the bell for 12 years and in previous hands it was impressive small menu and done very well, same prices but you don’t mind paying more for a food meal. I have been before for Sunday roast which was very good, so inconsistent experience.

A bit disorganised, was shown to an unmade room when we checked in but soon rectified and offered some comp drinks. Breakfast offering very heavy, no light options and no gluten free bread so mother in law just had a poached egg

Headed here for an evening meal from a nearby campsite and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lovely setting and welcoming atmosphere followed by top food on a very reasonable set menu price. Special mention to our waitress Ruby as well as the rest of the staff Edwina, Bethany and George. All did a fantastic job and we will certainly be back! Couldn’t recommend this pub highly enough.

Had lunch for three people at The Bell today and having previously read some negative reviews I wasn’t sure how things would go. I am pleased to say from the moment we arrived our two servers (sorry, I don’t have names) were extremely welcoming and...

Such a shame. Used to come here regularly before it was taken over. The menu was always good with a selection of seasonal produce and a couple of fish options. Since the takeover it’s turned into a standardised pub menu with nothing of note on there. We tried a Sunday roast today and it really wasn’t up to much. Badly trimmed meat and hard veg. This is the third time we have tried and unfortunately will be the last.

We booked for a 3 night stay, we had stayed a couple of years previously and loved our experience. It appears A LOT has changed in 2 years, the heart taken out of a village pub and replaced with another poor quality chain establishment. We...

Enjoyed the food and the place very much. The Bell has always taken good care of us over the years, and with the new management since 3 months under Edwina and deputy manager Dan, that is no different. Everything has been refurbished decor wise, a bit lighter and a bit more modern without losing the known pub feel. The walls are filled with Tanworth’s history. Our performers also enjoyed their rooms, and their overall stay. Very friendly staff and good service. The Sunday roasts are a good big plate full.

Sadly Stonegate seem to be making every rookie error possible in their running of this place. The variety of negative reviews speak for themselves and they don’t seem to be able to fix them. Being local we used to eat here twice a week but...

Lovely little country pub and beautifully furnished. Staff were extremely pleasant & efficient. Two main concerns, firstly the delay, which in fairness they were very busy & having to service a large table. Secondly I ordered a medium/well steak, which unfortunately arrived medium/rare with blood...

OK pub in lovely village. Disappointed that no decaff hot drinks were available. Service was friendly and food generally ok although soya burger was probably half the size that was anticipated. Had been told that it was dog friendly which it was, but only in the bar area which was a bit spartan for dining, although the dining area looked cosy and was decorated for Christmas. Visited a second time yesterday and meals were all good with great service. It was also very comfortable sitting outside in the shade. Lost a star as still unable to provide a decaf coffee.

Where do I start with my review, Firstly I’ll point out the positive. The refurb that Stonegate did back in Sept 2022 has given the Bell the facelift it needed. It looks much more bright and welcoming. That’s where my positive review ends I’m afraid....

WOW, so impressed with the Bell now. It has been a few years since we were last here and in the last 2 weeks, we have been three times. Lovley environment, that feels welcoming and opulent. Super attentive staff and lovley land lady, Edwina. Food has always been amazing and great value for money. The staff cannot do enough for you. It is also doggie friendly !!!!!!

Such a lovely old building, very friendly and welcoming staff, with one particular lady who couldn’t do enough, carrying my heavy case upstairs (thank you). The true highlight was dinner in front of the log burner, with the best steak pie I have ever eaten! I’ll remember this place for a long time and will definitely be back!

We attended a reunion party in the pubs separate function room earlier in the month. The team laid on a special “in a basket” menu which was both well delivered and priced. We decided to visit again for a spot of lunch in the bar / restaurant the following week. My better ‘alf is a veggie and despite the general view that the veggie brigade is expanding .. it’s surprising how many pub/ gastros merely have a single consolation veg. Option on the menu these days . HOWEVER the golden Cross offered several 😎 varied choices . The” Lady minister for all important decisions “. Settled on the veggie pie of the day - i went full hog and went for the home made faggots. I have to say the food was prepared with care , the portion size - proper!! In short . We really enjoyed it . Oh! And the service smily and attentive. Safe to say we’ll be back

Had a great time a couple weeks back at the Holly Bush. The bar staff where lush amd chatty had lots of space for me and my group of friends to hang out. Played darts , played bord games and had a great beer choice.
