The Golden Cross in Stratford-on-Avon

I called for availability on the day due to another establishment letting us down for Sunday lunch. The guy I spoke to kindly managed to fit us in with a booking time. We gladly accepted and was at the premises within 15 minutes. They looked after us fantastically with awesome service and food. They had a large party to attend to, but we never felt as if we were put aside. I can not rate the golden cross highly enough for rescuing our Sunday lunch. Thank you.

I recently had my wedding reception at the Golden Cross and I can’t express enough how amazing the experience was. Laura and Felan went above and beyond to make sure that everything was perfect. From the initial planning stages, to the day itself they were so very helpful in coordinating all the details which allowed the day to unfold seamlessly. All of them including their lovely staff were so accommodating throughout the event. During our three course meal when my baby needed to sleep they let us have him in a quiet room nearby while keeping an eye on him so that we could all enjoy our meal without worry. I most definitely recommend Laura and Felan at the Golden Cross to anyone looking to host an event or even just looking for a nice pub to have a meal at. Thank you to everyone at the Golden Cross for making our day so memorable.

A great meal at value price. We were staying at a local hotel and decided to venture out for evening meal. We Came across this lovely pub with a log fire. The menu suits different budgets and a great choice. If you are into gin there is a very good choice too. Service was quick and the food was good portions glad we didn’t have a starter and we couldn’t fit a dessert as we were too full. Would visit again.

We went for Sunday lunch and can't fault it. The food and service were both fantastic!

We had a large party of 44 and from start to finish I can not fault the attention to detail from Laura and Felan, they put together a great 2 course menu which covered all dietary requirements nothing was too much trouble. The room was beautiful bar staff were very friendly again nothing too much trouble. There was not one single problem with the meals that came out each was well presented an hot we had so many compliments. I can not recommend this place enough for a large group we have also visited as a family on other occasions and always been impressed. Outstanding!!

If you're vegan (or if you're not!) and want a fantastic proper pub lunch, this is the place for you! When you phone to book, tell them you're vegan (or veggie) and they'll do a separate freshly cooked menu for you. I had a mushroom and spinach pie, with the most gorgeous rich tomato sauce, veggies and chips. So tasty and fresh. The beer is ace as well. Can't recommend it enough. Equally good for carnivores like my husband whose faggots and mash were so generous he couldn't finish it.

The Golden Cross recently hosted an event for us in their newly redecorated dining room. The finger buffet was exceptional and the service for the entire party was spot on. Great to see so many people enjoying the pub throughout the evening. Will certainly be back for more!

Had a Sunday lunch here today , it was absolutely superb, a good portion , hot & very tasty, probably the best Sunday roast lunch I've had. The service was brilliant & selection of beers & ales brilliant I could not fault this in any way or form & I wouldn't want too as pubs & establishments as good as this need bums on seats & not to be put off by a troll on line, definitely go in have a beer & if your in to really good food try some you WONT be disappointed it's a gem & an actual MUST

We attended a reunion party in the pubs separate function room earlier in the month. The team laid on a special “in a basket” menu which was both well delivered and priced. We decided to visit again for a spot of lunch in the bar / restaurant the following week. My better ‘alf is a veggie and despite the general view that the veggie brigade is expanding .. it’s surprising how many pub/ gastros merely have a single consolation veg. Option on the menu these days . HOWEVER the golden Cross offered several 😎 varied choices . The” Lady minister for all important decisions “. Settled on the veggie pie of the day - i went full hog and went for the home made faggots. I have to say the food was prepared with care , the portion size - proper!! In short . We really enjoyed it . Oh! And the service smily and attentive. Safe to say we’ll be back

Came for a booked table for 4, staff pleasantly greeted us at the door and showed us to the table, as we were two adults and two children, the staff were more than accommodating for the kids request of a starter even though it wasn't on the menu. Food came out in a nice timely manner and in my opinion was some of the tastiest food I've eaten. It looked amazing, and tasted even better. Presentation was second to none. Will definitely be returning and definitely recommending. Even planning to hold an occasion and hiring the room/pub out.

Laura and Felan, gave us an amazing experience from start to finish for our wedding dinner. Nothing was too much bother and we were able to customize all of our food and arrangements. They made our celebration so personal for us in their beautiful little English Pub. Food was to an exceptional standard and bespoke to our taste. Couldn’t have asked for more.

Just had an early supper. Mushroom Soup was delicious and scampi and chips. A lovely meal and a full pub and gardens at 6 pm

Most excellent stop on our journey to Somerset. Helen, who took my original booking, was super lovely, as was Laura, the owner. Service - fabulous. Food - delicious!! We had warm bread with a dish of beautifully marinated olives to start. Hubby had the best pork, stilton, mustard and cider pie with fresh greens. I had a trio of fresh fish... Haddock, salmon and scampi in a delicious sauce on mash. I was , unfortunately, too full for dessert but hubs managed a deconstructed jammie dodger cheesecake which he said was fab.... Finished off with a dessert wine. Stayed overnight in our motorhome - thoroughly recommend 😍

We ate at the Golden Cross last night and it was fantastic. I had the bubble and squeak which was made so beautifully and classy you could of not believed it was the bubble and squeak (a very cool modern take on it). My Dad had the pork steak which was also delicious. The service was lovely and friendly and we will be back! Very soon!! Also gorgeous location.

Saturday 20th July 2024, after being let down by another pub. We phoned ‘The Golden Cross’ in Temple Grafton to be told they did not serve food on a Saturday evening, but a pizza van was outside for food and we could sit outside and eat our pizza (in the rain – Get Real ). We could not believe it, another pub which has bad business ethics and will be joining the ranks of the boarded up pubs across the country.

What a find, the food was absolutely delicious, all home cooked. Two of us had the pie of the day and one had the slow cooked pork. Delicious. We had been to lots of restaurants during our stay in Stratford, but the Golden Cross was definitely up there as one of our favourites. Laura and her staff were fabulous, friendly, helpful, making it a pleasure and lovely place to eat. Shame its such a long long way away from where we live otherwise we would be there nightly. Highly recommend.

Nice food but extremely over priced for drinks. Drinks prices are extortionate £10 for 200ml of prosecco and £11 for glass of wine?! Alot of the reasonably priced wine by the glass was out of stock which meant paying more. Service was slow and zero atmosphere. We are local but have been put off by the extortionate prices and lack of atmosphere.

Pop in for drink somat to eat .fish and chips terrible burnt fish over cooked chips . Burger not to my taste never had burger like it .not much on menu to choose from especially if dont eat meat no other options or salads not pub it ust to be wont go there again

Fantastic food and friendly service, beautiful steak, and sea bass. Sauces and accompanying vegetables mind blowingly tasty. Walked 3km to get here and another 3km to get back, sooooooo worth it 😋😋

Wow! A couple of weeks ago, we popped in here last minute for Sunday lunch. It was excellent. So this evening, we decided to go for dinner... not disappointed at all. Food was excellent again. 👍👍 Staff friendly and v good service. Decent beer. Decent prices all round. Cannot fault this place. Roll on the finer weather, I see a few afternoons being spent in their garden... 🍺😎👍

Me and friends visited this pup on our way to stratford, as soon as we arrived manager I believe to be named laura was very aggressive and interrupt me often and became more aggressive after this,

So I went to this location for a lovely night out with the misses, however as I entered the pub I witness the two owners shouting at a small child for spilling some food, I also saw them micro-waving my fish. Also there was an outrageous amount of throff in my Prosecco

Passed by for a drink and then ended up staying for food. Menu was all the pub classics plus things that were a bit different. We loved it. Staff were lovely and food was really good

My girlfriend and I were staying in the area for a few days and booked a table in the restaurant at The Golden Cross for dinner on Valentines Day. It proved to be a very smart decision! Clearly a lot of thought and effort had gone into the menu and, at £80 per couple, it certainly was fantastic value. The (plentiful) food was cooked beautifully and very nicely presented. We enjoyed chatting with the co-owner, Laura, who confirmed that they intentionally limited the number of bookings for that night so as to look after their guests properly...which they absolutely did. Highly recommended!

Friendly helpful staff good food and choice of beers

Back in our favourite cosy country restaurant. We absolutely love coming to the Golden cross, the warm welcome from The owners and the food is outstanding! A la cartè dining at a fraction of the cost you would pay in the nearest town of Stratford upon Avon. Our little gem of a place. Supporting local businesses not these big corporate company's. Keep doing what your doing guys your service, food and restaurant speak for themselves.

Oh dear!. Went last year with family. Nice atmosphere, good food, efficient service So, went back again. Disaster,what has happened? Freezing cold, food poor, fish and chips smelt funny. BUT, worst of all arrived 12.15. Waited 10 m to order anything. Meal finally arrived 50 minutes later!!!!!! and quality taken a dive. That's one off the list!!! Don't go until they get their act together. Nearly an hour to get food on table really unacceptable

Family Christmas meet Father Christmas Inc breakfast and crafts was excellent staff were great.

Family Christmas Eve dinner. Food was well presented, plentiful and tasty. Everyone was happy with choices. We’ve always liked this pub; recently food has gone up a notch along with prices but still good value and staff always pleasant and helpful.

We had our 30 of us had our Christmas Dinner there last night. The venue and atmosphere was perfect as we're the staff. They made us feel very welcome the moment we arrived until we left Would highly recommend

Visited for the first time since the new owners took over and was really impressed. We attended the breakfast with santa event, which was really well done and a cut above what most pubs do but for similar money

Organised a group christmas meal for 17 people, from the outset the pub was helpful and even threw in a free glass of bubbly. On the night they were very well organised, staff excellent and more importantly everyone was delighted with their meal. One of our group was gluten and dairy free and it was not a problem. We had the main dining room to ourselves which was a bonus and it was beautifully decorated. Well done!

Sunday lunch, always on point. We stopped for lunch with family who were travelling back to Lancashire. We called for an early Sunday lunch and sat in the cosy bar area by the log burner. Very lovely atmosphere, with super friendly staff. The Sunday lunch was absolutely delicious. We had the roast which was accompanied by a hearty selection of vegetables and cauliflower brocoli cheese, so tasty. We highly recommend The Golden Cross....hats off to the Chef and front of house team.

This place is brilliant! Food- although not on the main menu, the chef went out of his way to provide a range of great vegan options, I had vegetable pie, full of root veggies, mushrooms greens, delicious; hubby had chicken pie equally yummy. Staff- brilliant, polite, friendly, really attentive. Beer - fantastic, well kept. Ambience- lovely!

Most of us had the homemade soup, which was lovely. The fish and chips was a good portion, had extra chips this was a bowl 😊, all the food was hot and nicely presented.

Wow! Called on the off chance of an available table for lunch & Martin said they do a brilliant Sunday lunch. That is no understatement! The food was outstanding and the customer service exceptional. It’s always one thing to provide good quality food that is well-prepared but that is elevated to another level when the welcome and staff interaction is sincere. Thank you for a great meal. The golden cross is our favourite place to go out for a family dinner, the food is always excellent,fresh and tasty, fish and chips is a firm fave for me, Laura and felan and the team are super friendly and go above and beyond to accommodate their guests. We also visit regularly for drinks, they have a lovely beer garden which is perfect to enjoy a pint in on a warm summers day🌞

Great Local pub! Always nice to come for a few drinks on an evening as we have banter with the bar staff while ordering, the pub is warm, inviting and the staff are friendly. Drinks are well priced, Dogs are welcome and the food is great, what more could you ask for! :)

What a wonderful Pub/Restaursnt this is. We came for Sunday lunch, 3 adults and one child. My great nephew has allergies and the staff could not be more accomodating letting us bring his food with us. Little man wasn't feeling to good because of the heay and a poor nights sleep and once again without even having to ask a large fan was placed to cool him down and a buggy to get him to sleep so his Mum could still eat her meal. The food was amazing (Roast Turkey and Lamb Shoulder). Everything was perfect and the service was above and beyond. If you are in the area or close by make an effort to visit this place you will mot regret it.

What a lovely place! My partner and I were visiting the area, staying in a cabin nearby. This pub was recommended to us by the cabin owners, and it was great. Laura, who I believe is one of the owners and front of house is lovely. Really welcoming and great at her job. We sat outside and had a drink in the beer garden which is so pretty, also has lots of visiting dogs which is a bonus for me! The food was great, cooked to perfection, everything homemade. Very tasty. We didn't book and they still kindly accommodated us. Good food takes time, this is a beautiful village pub with one chef who cooks well. It's not a chain pub, or a fast food place, where things are out in 10 minutes. Quality takes time, and I for one, don't mind waiting for it. A very comfortable, pleasant pub that I'm more than happy to sit and enjoy, whilst my food is being lovingly made. Also, lovely little gin selection and some rum I'd never seen before which was very nice. Spotlessly clean, very reasonably priced. Will definitely be back if we're ever in the area again. This was our first visit to the Golden Cross. We were impressed by the menu, which we accessed online, and booked an early table for dinner on a Saturday evening. We were surprised to find that there was not a separate area for dining. The pub was quiet when we arrived. That didn't last. 3 couples who were there just for drinks occupied the table immediately next us and were that noisy that it was impossible for us to have a conversation which ruined what was intended to be a relaxed meal. An extensive menu is offered. The food is good without being in any way special. It is not 'pub grub'. We cannot understand why there is not a separate dining area to allow diners to enjoy their meals. It would make such a difference to the dining experience.

We were visiting an event nearby and were a little early. Needing refreshments and the use of the facilities we pulled into the large car park. Warmly welcomed we obtained the refreshments and adjourned to the spacious garden area. We decided to stop again for a meal on our way home and booked a table, (a good decision as it turned out), and left. On our return it was much busier but the welcome as warm as before. The cooked to order food was very enjoyable and reasonably priced. We will certanly return when we visit the area again.

Myself and my partner have just visited 31/5/23 @ 7pm. we were seated straight away and drinks order taken. Drinks arrived after 10 minutes without a food menu, was told be back with menu's. we waited for 20 minutes still no menu, found menu on website using our mobile phone. After 40 minutes of still waiting approached the bar to pay for drinks as that is the honest thing to do. was given a false apology for the delay with the lack of menu, this was after being asked if we are dining. Advised after waiting for 40 minutes we are leaving, was given another false apology and was still expected to pay for 2 drinks. No apology given don't worry about the drinks bill. Really Realy poor customer service. This is not how a small family pub should be run. People came in after us and were seated, given food menu's and food order even taken. Advice don't sit round the corner from.the bar, out of sight out of mind. Will not be visiting again.

43 Members of Alcester u3a (an organisation for retired and semi-retired people) sat down today to a superb 2 course lunch at The Golden Cross, Ardens Grafton. Both the food and the service were first class! The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the owners, Laura and Felan, were very willing to accommodate our needs. As the organiser of this event, I send a huge THANK YOU to all involved in making this such an enjoyable experience!

Lunch for 14 hungry walkers and everyone very happy with the lunchtime 2 meals for £20 offer. The pub was almost full but Laura & her small team seemed to keep everyone happy with speedy service, a welcoming smile & nothing was too much trouble. The food was cooked fresh & helpings very adequate. Heartily reccomended. Well done Laura & her team.

I visited The Golden Cross with a friend for Sunday lunch but sadly we weren’t overly happy with our food. We both ordered the beef (which says on the menu is served pink) but unfortunately it was over cooked. The roast potatoes were cold, hard and tasted like they had been cooked 5 hours earlier and reheated, the veg served with it was cold too and none of seemed to be seasoned. The staff were friendly and the pub garden really is very lovely to sit in but we wouldn’t come back for food unfortunately.

Superb meal after lovely walk in the surrounding countryside. Real ales and stunning food...lost count of the variety of beautifully cooked veg with my vegetarian main course. 😋

My Fav Country Pub Visited here now 4 times over the last few months the food is absolutely amazing, A La Cartè dining, hats off to the chef! Not ur usual pub grub which is so good, all local produce from the fresh fish to the poultry to the vegetables, I can’t fault the high level of quality ingredients they use at a fraction of the price you pay in some restaurants. The standard of food has been excellent every visit not a bad word to say about any of the food. It our little go to place for a cheeky date or with the children / family. The owners are celebrating there 1 year anniversary today since taking over and they deserve this post more than ever. A beautiful traditional country pub with beautiful garden and very exceptional food. Well done guys!

Well, not been here since before Covid, new owners (just the last year) in place, and they have transformed the place! Noticed that the reviews over the last few months have been mainly 5's. Have to say I do not disagree. Only the 2 owners (man and wife - sorry I did not get their names) cooking/serving, and admittedly there was a wait, but we were kept informed and as we were not in a hurry, not an issue. A good selection (for me) of real ales and the food (I had the faggotts and my wife and our friend had the sharing platter) - all of which were excellent. The food as well as excellent was such good value, and so too were the drinks. All in all, one to definitely return!
