The Red Lion in Stratford-on-Avon

Food very disappointing. Some red hot some stone cold . Slow service. Rooms shown were very dusty and bathroom sink and bath dirty. Also charged for a meal we didn't even have

This was one of the best places we stayed on our one month tour around Europe. Great rooms and the staff were amazing. Thank you to all that were involved with our stay from the front desk to the chef, excellent quality food and great value. Such a friendly place, highly recommended.

Just stayed here for a couple of nights, the room is great, staff have been fabulous and we have been really impressed with the food too, would definitely stay here again!

Pop in on occasion when cycling. Nice patio area ,umbrellas etc .

We booked a room with a hot tub for our little mini moon. What a little gem. The garden is a beautiful little sun trap to sit in the evening, breakfast was lovely. Everything was included that you will need for your stay. The robes and slippers were a lovely touch. We intend to book again for our anniversary next year.

Our food was excellent and we were able to sit at a comfortable, quiet table in the garden (our choice, since we are still observing Covid safety restrictions and need outdoor seating). Service was quick and servings were a good size. Everything was fresh and tasted great. We would definitely come here again. Great location for families with kids, as well.

Lovely pub in the middle of the New Forrest. Great food and drinks. Dogs allowed with live music. Morning breakfast is a bit slow to come but very tasty when it arrived. Beer garden in the back and very reasonably priced

Ordered a salad bowl from their menu. Was told they didn't have one of the main ingredients. Advocado. Apparently not bought anymore as never ok! But it's still on the menu! Asked if I could maybe have an egg instead in the salad. Agreed they could add a fried egg. Couldn't boil an egg?!! On choosing the dressing. They'd run out of all dressings. No olive oil either! You couldn't make it up. And nothing deducted from the bill. Must add the waiter, Alex, did his best to serve us in a friendly manner. Without any support from the senior male member of staff there. Who wouldn't even acknowledge us. Would NOT recommend this pub/restaurant.

had a night stay over in a twin room, everything was fantastic, from room, evening meal, breakfast and service by all the staff, had a great stay and would recommend any to stay or call for meal if your in the area

Nice location, clean pub with friendly staff and prompt service. Totally let down by the worst food we have experienced in any UK inn. Inedible rubbish which we left and walked out. If you’re just wanting a drink either in the bar or the excellent beer garden then that’s fine, but avoid the food if at all possible.

A lovely pub just across from our accommodation. We had a couple of lovely days to sit and have drinks in their lovely garden which is right next to the canal. We had dinner there also and that was delicious, good service , reasonably priced definitely recommend

Excellent lunch… portion size was perfect.. we had the haddock and chips and husband said was the best he’d had.. I had the chicken goujons burger salad and chips.. very yummy and good value

Visited while on our holiday to the new forest, food absolutely amazing! Service was a little slow but the waitresses were lovely nonetheless and the food was worth the wait. Dog friendly.

We’ve been going to this restaurant for many years now but today we were extremely disappointed. Portion sizes were noticeably smaller, the burger buns fell a part, the food was cold. I think it’s time to find a new restaurant. The staff were lovely and friendly - just disappointed in the food

We have been twice and we haven’t had a single problem with the pub great outside area and interior great service was great

Very friendly and attentive staff. Ate at around 6pm ish - were not kept waiting for our meals or drinks. Meals were very nice - good portion sizes. Nice to see a hands-on manager supporting his staff. An all round good experience.

Didn’t use the rooms here but came here for dinner on a mini break & the food was unbelievable! Recommend highly!

We booked for our work Christmas do, we had to give our menu choice 2 weeks in advance but thankfully we did! Always difficult planning the food in advance, however the quality of food deems the pre-orders the best option for our company and the restaurant. There were around 20 of us and every meal was cooked to perfection. Absolutely no complaints on the food or restaurant/bar service and impressed that even after the large order, all puddings were still served in great time. Thank you to the bar staff and especially to the chefs for the amazing service 😄

Can't fault this restaurant. The staff were very attentive from the moment we stepped through the door; we were shown directly to our table and our drinks were brought to us in no time. Great atmosphere for families in the restaurant, and a nice chilled bar area for drinks and less formal meals. Staff were very efficient in everything that they did, including the time the food took to arrive, checking everything was perfect with our meal, clearing our table after each course. The food was delicious, we had one steak which was cooked spot on, and when ordering the vegetarian meal for my husband, even more care was taken with regards to allergies etc. Very friendly staff towards our children also. Will 100% be returning here next time we are in Stratford, it's central location makes it an ideal stop no matter what you are doing.

We came to Stratford for the day for the markets and saw this place on the other side of the road so thought would give it a try had a few drinks and the food was great! Definitely will definitely be returning The staff were very pleasant

This is a good value pub. The food is excellent . The prawn starter is much less costly than other places. Recommend the gammon and the chicken and ham hock pie. Service was prompt and friendly. One oddity is if you eat in the bar rather than in the restaurant they insist on bringing the starter with the main course.

Arrived just before 19.30. We were told we couldn't have a nice table in the restaurant as the main part was closed. There were people about to finish and we offered to wait but they just seemed adamnent to not give us a table in the restaurant area. I personally have been going to the red lion for over 25 years. The staff seemed offish, seemingly eager to leave, and unwilling to accommodate us. We only wanted a glass of wine and a main meal. Disappointed.

We came here over the weekend for a family meal and the food is absolutely delicious! Very reasonably priced for the portion sizes and excellent quality. Our server was also very lovely and accommodating 😊

The food is simply outstanding, the cheese steak we had was perfectly cooked and melted in the mouth. The other dishes were all to a very high standard and some of the best food we've ever had in a pub. The service from the staff was excellent, being warm and attentive. We'll be returning here very soon, won't be bothering with any of the overpriced and pretentious restaurants on the high street which are double the price but of similar or less quality.

Went pre-theatre, as have been here years ago, and they have parking which we can use whilst at the theatre (RSC). Booked the table months ago. We were given a lovely table for the 2 of us, a lovely feel when we walked in, was greeted and seated quickly and warmly. Lovely decorations, and a great cosy feel. Our Waiter David has exceptional customer service skills, one of the best services we have ever received anywhere. Varied Menu, and great value. Food was superb! Quality food, and plenty of it, and a great selection of drinks including cocktails at a great price. Really can not speak highly enough, this stands out for it's excellence in service, David being a real asset, and fabulous ambience and quality food. Have already been recommending scince arriving at work this morning! Well Done Red Lion, and shout out to David ( and I believe Mark? who bought our food from the kitchen, what a fabulous man)

This pub is a must if you are in the area. I had the best Sunday vegetarian dinner lunch I think I have ever had. Staff are friendly too. I did not stay in the rooms but if the service and food is what I experienced I am sure it would be top notch

So disappointed had a great Sunday dinner a few months ago so we thought we would go to the steak lovers offer on Thursdays only We we’re looking forward to it but was really let down my wife couldn’t eat her steak so we left it the chips were overcooked and some hard The drinks were fine I don’t know was has happened in such a short time we really thought we’d found a good pub restaurant The service was just about acceptable but we’re left to long unattended if we required anything else Who ever owns this establishment should oversee what’s happening Would be reluctant to return now shame.

We stopped in for lunch during a recent trip to Stratford-upon-Avon. We have visited before and always feel well looked after. The food is good pub grub and its always very warm and welcoming. It was pretty cold when we went but they do have a lovely covered area outside with heaters. We always recommend this place to friends or family who are visiting the town.

Very close to Stratford centre but you can miss the car park on the road and have to drive round again.

Lovely relaxing weekend... hot tub lovely although the attention to detail was very lacking... dead plant...night lights had seen better days...fag butts on top of fencing. Breakfast was nice and a great choice...coffee and tea served in self serve jugs. The room was adequate... the kettle was situated in quite an awkward position and not the easiest to use. No ironing board. Probably say this was over priced in comparison to similar we have stayed at.

Great food , good price, close to centre of Straatford near where we were staying . Jake looked after us very well would definitely call again if in Stratford , cosy pub .

Top tier country pub with nice staff

We visited for a pre-theatre meal. One of us has an unusual combination of food allergies, but this wasn’t a problem as the staff here take this very seriously. We mentioned this when we booked up and discussed on the evening when we ordered. All the staff were very friendly, and we experienced great service. The delicious food, which is great value for money especially with the Tasty Rewards scheme, came in good time despite being quite busy.

Had a nice relaxing 2 day stay, staff fab rooms ok furniture a little dated ...Nice hot tub in a private courtyard bar snacks and food very good ...we will return....Great job by all tge staff

Stopped for lunch. Lovely food and friendly staff. Spotted uno on the way in so we had a game of that after our food. Dogs could come in too which was a bonus.

we had a lovely time today 29th August at the red lion Stratford, the meals we had was amazing all tasty and delicious, and piping hot, John was our server today and he made us all feel really welcome and John is an asset to the team at the Red Lion, this is our third visit and each time the food as been exceptional and the second time that we had John as our server

I stayed at The Three Lions for one night with a group of friends. The staff were fantastic, they made us feel very welcome and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was great and the rooms were clean and spacious. I'd definitely recommend this great little Inn and hope to come back.

Just wanted to leave a review to say thank you to the wonderful team at this pub. We had a very wet afternoon and the staff welcomed us in and nothing was too much trouble. Everyone enjoyed their food and we all left very happy and much dryer! We will definitely be back on our next visit.

I'd definately recommend this pub if you are visiting Stratford-upon-Avon for the day. Its got a really big garden and the food and staff were great. Was very busy when we visited but our food did'nt take long at all. The garden is right next to the canal so we went for a lovely walk up the canal path.

Lovely place, great service and very helpful staff just very disappointed that you removed Mac cheese from the menu, found the menu now to be quite limited for vegetarians. Not sure why you removed it as when asked was told it was a very popular...

Always interstate menu and good service

No problem with waiting 30minutes for a meal but then expect it to be good quality. Ordered the bacon and cheese burger, definitely not a home made patty, burger was tasteless, no seasoning. Wife and son ordered the chicken burger and both said totally bland....

We had lunch as a family of 4... 2 fish and chips but the chips were thin French fries need to be chunky chips salt beef sandwich which he enjoyed. Tandoori chicken burger not the best but the side pickle very nice . Deserts brilliant

The red lion stratford upon avon had lunch service excellent had 2 mains for £10.49 and kids meal for £5.99 the portions were very adequate food excellent atmosphere excellent staff excellent as you may be aware it was excellent for everything

The best place for visitors to eat when they travel to Stratford Upon Avon. Great value. At the weekend, it pays to book.

So I'm not a regular reviewer by a long shot, but this place has made me realise that I need to warn others. In summary, avoid this establishment. Stratford is too nice a place to have your visit totally spoilt by visiting a pub like...

We stayed here just for one night and it was great! We are a family of 4 and the room (Willow) was perfect for us. I can’t sleep if it is noisy and this was very peaceful and quiet. We appreciated the little touches like water and glasses in the room, candies on the beds, small toiletries etc. we also ate dinner and breakfast here and the food was good. We would happily stay here again.

Visited for lunch. Our server was very nice. My wings definitely were not excellent, but overall a good experience. They also validate parking for up to two hours.

A lovely pub, however service is slow and when food does arrive it's ok at best. Great seating and friendly staff are definitely great perks. But they just don't outweigh the slow service.

Stayed here recently for a wedding, and was blown away. The manager greeted us on arrival with genuine joy it made us feel at home immediately. She'd also managed to get us early entry to our rooms so we could get ready for the wedding which was a great touch. The food was excellent, especially the seafood platter! The rooms were lovely and beds very comfy. The star of the show had to be the breakfast which was a perfect cure to any next day headache, getting a huge fry up for just £10. Fabulous stay all round, thank you!
