We had a first birthday puppy meet up from all over the country we absolutely loved it and will be returning in April to do it again first class all round

Had Sunday lunch yesterday have to say it was absolutely delicious service was great and attention to detail was first class and cleanliness was top class would highly recommend this establishment

Stopped here for a pint and a meal while on a long bike trip. Food and service was really excellent, owners were very friendly!

Very friendly and efficient service. We only had a light lunch, which was excellent, but the Sunday roasts looked terrific and most probably were, given the number of people eating. Good range of beers. Special thanks to our server, George, who looked after us very well and gave us some good recommendations for afternoon activities. Great location if you are visiting the motor museum, which is only 5 minutes away.

What a fantastic place. The food is amazing and the service is exceptional.

Had an excellent lunch here yesterday with family. Food was delicious. 3 of us had liver,one had veg lasagna and one sea bass, all beautifully cooked and presented. 3 of us asked for smaller portions but they were very generous. Staff were particularly helpful to my 93 year old disabled sister, very patient with her. Have dined here 3 times now and all have been good,Including the set Christmas Menus. Would recommend to anyone. Well done all.

While away on a family break, we popped in hear for a quick lunch stop. Got to say it's a gem of a place. Friendly staff and great food. I ordered the steak sandwich with chips off the lunch menu. To be honest at the price it cost I wasn't expecting to much, so was surprised when the food arrived as the steak sandwich was huge. Dog Friendly to. I highly recommend you pay this place a visit

Certainly wouldn’t bother if you’re not one of the “locals”. Not very helpful at all and seemed to take pleasure in our struggle to get home.

I know I put 5 stars again, but I was really impressed by this village pub. Free parking but not the biggest carpark. Outside seating area. And a village shop. As for the food, I tried the liver and bacon, and it was delicious. We were in a time limit, so there was no time for dessert or coffee .I'll update next time. Staff friendly and helpful. Sorry, there are no pictures, but again, next visit.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Service was good and the food was great. This was a quick lunchtime stop, in the middle of a motorway journey.

Called for a Breakfast was greeted with a warm welcome and the food was cooked fresh and of fine quality ,very enjoyable

This is a lovely pub. Daisy is one of the best waitresses I have come across as she is very polite, professional and turned a 4 star restaurant meal into a 5 star one.

Managed to get a table booked for 8 of us, on our way home. Couldn't fault the food or service.

Attended on a Sunday afternoon on the way back from Liverpool after the match for some food. We were welcomed in and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Food was brilliant, recommend the Chili and Sunday Roast, kids portions were brilliant too. Great seating outside and a connect four for the kids to play with. Will be a new stop on the way home in the future. Thanks

Service was fab, the food not so much. Sadly the chef is uncapable of making the moat basic chicken salad. I was unable to eat it. My friend's food looked lovely though and the portions were very generous

Meeting up with friends and we selected this pub because it was so close to the M40 and was dog friendly. It was almost a 'pin in a map' moment but we struck lucky. From the welcome we received, to the food and service - we couldn't fault it. We arrived at 4.30 and didn't leave until 7.30 - it turned out to be perfect for meeting up. Highly recommend.

Lovely pub in Gaydon with plenty of charactor but found the Ploughmans we had for lunch over priced and not good value for money! A ploughmans usually comprises of good chunks of cheese, crusty bread and accompaniments. This one comprised of half a small soft roll, 3 cheese biscuits, 2 small pieces of cheese, homemade chutney, branston pickle, ham and sausage roll! There was far too much chutney and I imagine more is thrown away than eaten. I would have preferred less ham, more cheese and crusty bread!

Excellent lunch here en route down south. Easy distance from the M40, lovely village, service was friendly and attentive. Good choice of lunch menu and clearly popular as the car park was full on Thursday lunchtime.,

Another good meal at the Malt Shovel, Excellent service, great atmosphere and cheerful staff. They managed to deal with a party of 13 despite England footie being screened in the bar when we arrived. A good menu catering for all tastes

Lovely pub, one of my favourite places that I have visited. Will definitely go back when passing again. Dog friendly. Lovely atmosphere. Staff friendly. They also sell bread, pastries and croissants. Nice decor inside and out. Had a nice humble warm feeling. Lots of history in the pub. Very clean. Worth a visit. Menu looks good, but we arrived very late so didn't eat.

Travelling in our motorhome, we stayed in their car park overnight. Phone ahead and they’re happy to have motorhome stopovers and exchange for you having a meal and a drink. The food was delicious, and the host was friendly and helpful. Dogs welcome in the bar area. Only a couple of miles off the M40 junction

Turn up late on a Sunday afternoon and ask for a table for two .... no chance - fully booked 😔 ... only to be offered a cost little sofa in the snug and the best roast beef baguette I've ever tasted - washed down with a pint of Guinness 👌👌👌

We turned up on Sunday at noon without a reservation. The welcome was warm, the food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and attentive. I would recommend this pub to anyone and will remember to book next time!

We stopped here for dinner after a quick Google search for good pub grub… the food was spectacular. So much better than we expected! The price was very fair too for a lovely, lovely meal. The staff were very well informed and attentive in relation to food allergies and we never felt unsafe or that it wasn’t taken seriously (not everywhere can boast this) There is a pet cockatoo called Harper that just adds another layer of awesomeness to this very welcoming pub! Wonderful place!!

Had a great meal here on Friday night. Service from staff were really good. Lovely food, very hot, and tasty, compliments to the chef. It was very busy, really bustling, with regulars, but very welcoming to others. Prices were reasonable for the quality . Would go again for a meal on a special occasion. Well done everyone. Including the parrot that we could hear.

This is a great pub . excellent foor at fair prices , warm welcome, relaxed atmosphere.we are motorhomers and we were able to park up in the carpark. we will use this pub again when in the area.

Stayed overnight in our Hymer motorhome in early Feb. Parking space allocated on arrival. Made to feel very welcome, and had an excellent meal in the restaurant. Would stay again.

Stumbled across this place after being at the car museum and I’m so glad we did. The staff bent over backwards to make sure we were happy. Lovely atmosphere and the food was delicious. Menu had lots of great options it was actually hard to chose. We will definitely be back.

Good variety on the menu. Gluten free options and vegan options. Good honest freshly cooked food. Very tasty. Efficient service and our waitress was especially lovely and friendly and helpful. We'll be back....its a good halfway meeting point for us and some very good friends of ours.

As we were staying in an AirBnB in Gaydon we decided to visit the Malt Shovel for a meal. We were seated in the bar area as we had two dogs with us but received complete table service by two lovely, and very attentive, waitresses. The food was excellent, it really could not be faulted. The menu choice was extensive as was the choice of drinks. I would highly recommend the Malt Shovel, all round excellence at a reasonable price.

I visited the Malt Shovel for the first time in December 2023. It was for a pre-Christmas meal with neighbours, 2 of whom recommended it. I'm glad they did. Having recently visited for the second time, this time with family, I am very happy to recommend The Malt Shovel to anyone looking for a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, great service, and lovely food. I've already booked for a Valetine's Day dinner with my wife, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Seem some good reviews and thought would try this one out and was not disappointed. Great food and service for all 6 of us. Highly recommend the chip shop board.

We were there for my daughter's 30th and we couldn't have had a better time. Lovely food. The staff couldn't have done enough for us and let us bring our own birthday cake after some super main courses. Special word for the tall lad who served us. It was busy and he was clearly rushing about but he had everything under total control and a great personality. Made the difference!

Everything about this visit was excellent. Great choice of food and very tasty. Staff all friendly and professional- the lady who served us was brilliant ( didn’t get her name but she was Irish- made us feel very special). We had ( as had our friends) travelled about an hour to get there to meet up and will definitely visit again. Thanks to all.

Third time visiting the Malt Shovel. Every time we go we are always delighted with the care and time taken by staff to look after our family. The food is amazing home cooked with the emphasis on quality. With great children portion size and quality. I know we will be back again soon.

A lovely country pub with friendly staff and excellent food and drink. All quite reasonably priced. Well worth booking as it seems very popular. Certainly on my list to return in the future.

Went to watch a local band. Really good! The service was excellent, and the owners have a gsoh. Atmosphere great (apart from the occasional 'rude, snobbish' group who thankfully aren't there that often! Food is lovely. Really nice place for a drink (inc. Coffee) and entertainment! :)

Stopped off here on our way home as it’s just off the M40. Nice cosy atmosphere , warm welcome and good services. Husband had the liver which he really enjoyed and I had a burger and it was very tasty. Large portions. Wish we lived nearer.

Lunched here whilst travelling home. Very friendly welcome and shown to a table in the restaurant. Extremely varied menu and food was tasty on arrival. Considerable amount of lamb in the Irish Stew.

A hidden delight and a real gem. Recommended by a local hotel it was everything I could have wished for , varied menu , fairly priced; brilliantly presented and not disappointing on the eating I plumped for Lambs liver & Choc Orange sponge to finish - delicious & staff were quietly efficient & friendly too

Friday night booking with my partner and 1 month old child. Staff super accommodating and polite. Changed table time last minute (7pm to 6pm), which they were okay with. We were presented with a medium sized menu and specials menu. All sounded great, but we went for Black Pudding and Blue Cheese Pom Poms for a starter. Lamb and Mint Pie with veg and mash for mains. We were advised that there was a 30 min wait, but the food arrived promptly. Starter was amazing! I will be making these at home!!! Pie was homemade and one was shortcrust and one suet pastry, which was a nice novelty. Both of which tasted delicious and stuffed full of chunky and tender lamb. Overall the food was great and reasonably priced, staff and landlord friendly and accommodating. Will certainly return!

Called here on our way down to Southampton. Very pleasant and friendly staff. Great service, good choice of food. We had a sandwich, which was delicious. Nice atmosphere as well. Very welcoming. Will definitely visit again as family live in Leamington Spa.

Loved this place. A pleasant stroll from the British Motor Museum, it is very easy to find. Food was wonderful and staff welcoming and friendly. Dogs are allowed and although we stayed for lunch, the chefs specials would definitely be an option for dinner! I would recommend this Inn and would definitely visit again.

We visited on Saturday morning for a birthday celebration with 6 adults, 1 child and a baby. The team made us feel so welcome with a lovely spacious table, the food was absolutely delicious with generous portion sizes and the staff were so lovely, thank you all.

We booked for 8 people for lunch for a birthday celebration, including two under 5s. The service was friendly and efficient and they were happy to provide the children’s meals first. The food was delicious with very generous portions. The location was ideal for our visit to the nearby motor museum. We will definitely return.

Wow, we found this place and what a Gem!! It was busy.. So welcoming and fitted us in for lunch no problem.. The food was excellent and Brandon our waiter was extremely good in looking after us. Thank you and we will be back soon ..

Everything about this meal was terrible gristly roast beef poor cut, raw cauliflower cheese put under a grill, white roast potatoes that hadn’t been roasted in an oven, but in an air fryer, a flat disc of dower and water representing a Yorkshire pudding, not!! Lumpy gravy and at a staggering £75:00, sack the idiot who thinks he’s a Chef, he’s not even a cook, just a pig feeder

Service was appalling, the lady behind the bar made us feel so unwelcome. Food came out missing food and had to ask for the rest which we then had to wait for. Also none of our food came out together about 30 minutes apart. By the time we all had our food it was cold. The only good thing was the young lady that came out to see if everything was ok. She was the only nice person there. Also very over priced for what you get. Won’t be returning.

Super dog friendly pub conveniently situated near the country park. Extremely friendly service and the food was really delicious. I had the homemade pie which was v good and the chips were extra special. Would highly recommend but need to book in advance as it was v busy on Saturday lunch time.

The Malt Shovel was recommended to us by a few friends, and we weren't disappointed. Lovely pub with a great menu selection, good service, and the food was delicious! The kind of food that makes you think everything on the menu will taste good! We booked online for our 8pm Friday night table, and it was nicely busy when we arrived. Slight wait on food but nothing unbearable. The first pub I've been to who have an in-house Cockatoo!! Would definitely go back.

Met up with family from Cannock, Lichfield and Oxford at The Malt Shovel (third time)as its half way between all of us. Welcomed at the door, led to our table and given menus. The staff were very patient with us as we chatted before giving our order (except for a drink). The food was exceptional - highly recommend the fish shop platter or the Hunter's chicken - too full for puddings but all looked great. Came away with the Christmas menu and will certainly return again and again.

Service was slow and got a few people's food orders wrong, our table and another table next to us. Then took ages to correct and bring the right food. It wasn't busy so no excuse to make so many mistakes. Food was ok but very overpriced for what it was. No extra plate or finger bowl when given a longestine dish- very messy and no where to put shells or wash fingers! Good music however!

Popped in for an early lunch completely random choice. Was not disappointed the steak sandwich with the gravy was excellent. Very warming hosts. Will come back next time i need a lunch in the area.

Family get together for Sunday lunch. Friendly attentive family run pub. Lovely old village pub, great well presented tasty food. The roast beef dinner was wonderful, good sized portions, plenty of vegetables and gravy. Others in our party had the herby garlic chicken breast and the "chip shop" board, all left clean plates. Sadly though no room left for desserts.

Food awful, sorry but that's the truth, egg inedible on the gammon, duck spring roll starter not good, lots of salad not fresh ! Wouldn't go again . £44 !!! Waste of money.
