With a friend, my wife and I went out for her BIrthday Meal on 27th Juky. We were warmly greeted by Christian, who helped my invalid wife up the steps and to our table. After some pleasant banter, we ordered our drinks and bowl of olves before we perused the a la carte menu. We chose starters and mains while I also had a desert. We all had coffees. Our food was nicely presented and much enjoyed by us all, Chrisian was most attentive and helpful throughout, with a gentle sense of humour. This is all added to my wife's delight

We booked for a special wedding anniversary as it had long been our go to “special occasion” venue. We read some of the bad reviews but as it hadn’t changed hands we decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. When we arrived just before 7 and there were no cars we should have kept on driving. Fair enough we thought, it is a Wednesday evening. We made the best of it as a family of 4; seeing humour in the experience but it was dreadful. The silver service was gone, I felt like we would have had to stay at the bar table if I hadn’t mentioned going through. The bar man/waiter/probably the chef was casually dressed in a jumper and shouted to us across the bar a couple of times! I felt a touch of aggression because I couldn’t be persuaded to have a bottle of Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc instead of the Pinot Rose chosen from the menu. Soft drinks were served from a litre bottle so that explains someone’s earlier review about flat lemonade. Luckily the food was ok; not amazing but it was always the experience that drew us there in the past so we knew what to expect on the food side. It’s very sad but I do feel robbed. I was t going to leave a review as I’ll be surprised if it’s still open by Christmas but I can’t stop thinking about it so here I am. I think when they realised they only had one booking they should have told us! They’re limping along now and swindling people out of the experience they once expected; it was our special wedding anniversary dinner and we wanted it to be special. Well we won’t forget it but not for the right reasons! Shame for you Butchers Arms but also a little shame on you. No response required.

Sad After 40+ Years. Have been an occasional as in family occasions for as long as I can recall. I first came across Leno at The Westgate Warwick and The Butchers Arms has been out go to venue since. Today we were trying to think of somewhere for a combined Birthday and Anniversary. But recalled the experience we'd had 12 months ago and decided no! We'd asked if we could have coffee in the lounge but we were met with a blunt no and the same when we asked if maybe we could have it in the garden. Left a sour taste in our mouths.

The Butcher's Arms established itself as a very popular restaurant during its long association with the Pires family and today it still retains the same level of charm. I was in a party of eight celebrating my mother's milestone birthday and our Sunday lunch was very enjoyable. The service was excellent and so was the food. A full range of roasts were available with a good selection of vegetables. The desserts were very yummy too. Other diners joined in singing happy birthday to my mother as her cake was carried into a specially darkened restaurant. All things considered a great outing. It's worth mentioning how clean and well presented The Butcher's Arms is. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit for those going for the first time and others who are overdue a return visit.

what has happened , the Butchers Arms used to be the place to go. I wanted my partner to experience "the experience", great food great service the buzz the atmosphere, a nice meal, some good wine, We got a taxi from a fair distance away, the driver asked is "is it still open", not a good start, We arrived, the car park was empty, the pub all closed up bar the one small room and the bar, one other couple in, no one else. Two drinks ordered, both out of stock, lemonade that came with the second choice was flat, we should have left at this point, but no phone signal meant no taxis contactable, We sat at a bare table, forget the pictures you see, the room was cold with one tiny fan heater running all the time perched on a chair on the next table. Menus came, we chose, no fillet steak .. REALLY,, that is your signature dish, a tough piece of Sirloin with chips was the option, dreadful, my partner had two starters. Wine, we didn't get what we ordered, it was delivered to the table in a plain unmarked carafe, with an empty bottle of some sort, not opened at the table, no offer of tasting... awful flavour.. would love to know what is was for £36. no coffee offered, the taxi came , we left £132 worse off and almost ushered out of the door. We won't be back, and I suggest that not many others will be either , I fear for this places future with the experience such as we had. I wish I has read the previous reviews

Beautiful old world setting, picture box pretty. This is a very warm, welcoming and friendly place to stop off just for drinks, or for a fabulous meal. It is set in a beautiful village, in beautiful gardens. We had a very warm welcome, excellent food and great service. Yes, there were only 3 tables booked for lunch, but this didn't detract from our pleasure. In fact, we actually prefer not to be over crowded, we were very well looked after. The food is all freshly cooked to order and very reasonably priced for the quality. If this were my l9cal, I'd be in there 2 or 3 times a week. Locals and passers through alike should go out of their way to keep this absolute little gem busy and thriving. Do visit, you'll be very happy you did.

We were charmed the moment we pulled up outside by the beautiful exterior. Simply chocolate box pretty. On entering, we were greeted very warmly by Christian, who showed us through to the lovely restaurant. This place is old world charm at it's best, enveloping you in rich history and natural warmth. We ordered our food and was delighted with every course. We sent back all clean plates, which is unusual for us. If you're looking for fast, cheap, pub grub, this probably wouldn't suit you. If you're looking for modern, sleek lines you'll not find them here. But.... if you're looking for old world charm, warmth and elegance, delightful, polite and friendly service, topped off with fabulous, classic, freshly cooked food to order, then this is for you. Enjoy every moment and mouthful. My only regret? That we don't live closer and could visit more often. Come on you locals who are fortunate enough to have this on your doorstep, get back in there and fill it out. I was shocked there were only 3 tables for lunch. This place should be and needs to be packed to the rafters. For anyone passing through, stop in, you'll be very glad you did.

Not sure where to start. Car park! It was often difficult to find a parking space. Saturday night one other car. Are we in the right place I was asked? Bar very cold no one in there which was very odd! Had a drink and given the menu. Okay we know what to expect as this was our special place! We were taken into the restaurant which was empty!! Hang on it’s a Saturday night! We used to have to wait, what’s happened? Food okay but we expect it to be for the price. £120 two mains and bottle of wine. Where were all the silver service waiters but not needed just to stand there. One person serving bar and food. Atmosphere gone, coffee lounge closed! Can’t believe why the butchers arms is still open!! Plus side friendly bar man/waiter, food as expected. Another couple came in later and were very disappointed as we were. Gosh what an awful shame as this was a special place. I sincerely hope it gets back to some sort of normality!!!

The Butchers Arms is a Portuguese restaurant situated in a beautiful ironstone building in very quaint Priors Hardwick village. We booked an early dinner, but when we turned up they seemed somewhat surprised to see us. I say ‘they’ although there only seemed to be only one waiter on duty for quite a few tables. Anyway, once seated things improved rapidly. I had a Chanfana, which is slow cooked shoulder of lamb and really delicious. Went very well with the Portuguese red wine. My wife had a chicken and rice dish which she enjoyed. It’s not cheap, but I’d rate the value pretty good. Service was also quick and efficient, despite there being only one waiter. My only criticism is that when I paid with card, the waiter asked if I wanted to add a gratuity. I was happy to do so, but others might find that a bit too blunt a request. Recommended.

I will start by saying we have visited The Butchers Arms several times over the years and have never been disappointed. This was our first visit since Covid and was a very different experience. Pulled up in the car park and it was practically empty which we did think was strange for a Saturday evening. Upon entry it was empty, we got some drinks from the bar and WE opted to sit in the bar for a while as we had arrived before our booking and were in no rush. Someone brought over so menus for us to look at, I assumed we would order upon going through to the dining area, however we were asked several times if we were ready to order. It was irritating to feel rushed, when we finally relented and gave the gentleman our order he remembered it off top of his head (I personally hate it when wait staff do this, it’s never right, something always gets forgotten. It’s not a memory test, it’s about getting what we want RIGHT) We eventually went through to the dining room, lots of empty tables and it was freezing cold. Just a lack of atmosphere, no candles, all just felt rather empty. Starters - Were very poor, basic and horrendously overpriced for what they were. Mains - We both had fillet steak which was cooked to our liking/ish. I ordered garlic butter and my husband ordered blue cheese sauce. They both came with garlic butter and I queried this and the waitress said my husbands had blue cheese sauce on. Ours both looked identical and he said there was definitely no blue cheese. (This is where the waiters note pad would have came in handy when we ordered) Dessert - we ordered one to share and this was actually really good, the best part of the meal. The whole thing just lacks the special touches it had in years gone by. We both said we wouldn’t go back, other reviews on here and trip advisor say the same. It’s such a shame that somewhere so lovely has gone so down hill. There are so many much better places to eat out in Warwickshire for the sums of money involved.

It feels like the place is limping on propped up by the good will of past glories. If you visited The Butcher’s Arms in its prime and remember being greeted warmly by Lino (and Figo), being waited on by well dressed and friendly waiting staff, and served dessert from the infamous trolley I would strongly recommend sticking to the memories and not going back. We visited on a Saturday night and when we arrived there were only 3 other cars in the car park which felt ominous. If you’ve not visited before ultimately the service was OK nothing more, the food was mediocre, and the atmosphere is non existent. It’s worth mentioning that it is incredibly cold in the restaurant as well so take a jumper. If you’ve visited before and remember it as described at the start of this review then it will feel ten times worse and I would definitely steer clear. All in all quite sad considering what it once was.

Needed a bit of time to gather my thoughts and find the words for this because I was left totally perplexed and speechless at this experience. I am always very complementary where credit is due but I feel, since people are paying a fine dining price, they deserve a fine dining experience. January, Wednesday Night. I get it, it's going to be quiet. But when we rocked up, we genuinely thought the place was closed. As we opened the door I immediately got the sense of a place awoken from the dead or at least, a long hibernation. The smell was a mixture of wet dog, log burner, old carpet and cigarettes and dust. Old country pub, sometimes it's like that, sure. But then, Deathly silence. Freezing. No smiles, just a kind of lethargic welcome and a single table set up in the bar area. This was a special occasion for me and my partner. He'd surprised me having heard such fantastic things about this place and I had this sinking feeling and sadness for him that it was just going to be a bit deflating from when we walked in. The two members of staff (mumbling a lot in a different language, perhaps it was Portuguese, who knows) showed absolutely zero desire to be there. In fact, our waiter (who also turned out to be the chef) said he'd just returned from his holiday that morning and I genuinely ALMOST apologised for being a burden on his day. Anyway, drinks ordered, wine nice, overpriced and some bottles god knows how long they'd been open, but fine it was nice. This room smell is not subsiding. Coat is not coming off, it is Baltic in here. Fire's on but, one painful log at a time. Food ordering was fun. It had to be something he had in because he'd been away and not ordered anything, we were told. My partner resorted to: "Ok so what HAVE you got?" And we picked the 1 fillet steak left and the venison. Calamari to start. SIX POUNDS FIFTY for 5 pieces of defrosted tepid, rubbery Calamari. You can't justify that guys. The fillet for my Tournedos Rossini was cooked how I'd asked thank you and I received more of the creamed spinach than people usually get apparently, nice gesture. Is it possible for Paté to actually taste like dog smell? Truffle chips, or deep fried school dinner french fries in truffle oil with old parmesan thrown on top? I got down to the soaked Brioche toast and I had to stop eating, it was like old cooking fat. Cold but then a bit warmed up. I'm still a bit queasy thinking about it. I've never had something so pricey from an A La Carte Menu that makes me worry I will get ill. My partner is a rugby player with an iron stomach and will eat anything. He cleared his and mine up no bother. Not wasting this when it costs this much, rather than for the love of it. Grateful for not going hungry basically. I don't like confrontation, I had a feeling it wouldn't go down well if we returned it, or complained. Chef #2 had his coat on ready to go home, stood behind the bar before we'd had our plates cleared so it became a case of 'let's just pay and get out of here'. We had Portuguese Cheesy Pop playing quite loudly overhead by the way. That was annoying and not indicative of a cosy, fine dining country pub. More 00's Eurovision. Guys, I'm sorry I know this review seems harsh but our bill was £85 and I've had better service at a kebab takeaway. I could tell, having never been before, what a wonderful place this was and could be from the remnants of the atmosphere and the efforts with the menu. I've read other people's reviews and it genuinely makes me feel sad that we didn't feel the joy that others have felt. I was sad all the way home because it felt like an old seaside town that's lost its spark and the legacy is fading. I urge you to please do something so that people don't feel like this when parting with their hard-earned cash. Or, go and do something else that makes you happier. Maybe we'll give it another go in the Summer, but at that price, sadly, I doubt it.

How embarrassing to admit that we have not revisited this wonderful eatery for 13 years. Our wedding lunch was held here and we have fond memories of a wonderful meal and overall experience. Today was no different, the restaurant felt warm and cosy and the service was exceptional without being intrusive. Alison and her "trainee" made the experience even more delightful. The quality of the food is high and the presentation first class. Portion size is sufficient to make this great value for the price paid. We will NOT leave it another 13 years to visit this highly recommended eatery.

Lunched here on a recommendation from a friend and, while my wife loved it and would have given it 5 stars, I was somewhat underwhelmed and would have given 3; hence the 4 star compromise. Basically, I think that if you're paying over £100 for a meal for two (and that was with just two glasses of wine), you should get something special; and while the food was mostly very good (though my Arroz main dish – basically a seafood risotto – was watery and not particularly flavourful), most of the menu was pretty standard stuff (there were only two Portuguese 'specialities', though ostensibly this is a Portuguese restaurant) and there were no little extras – such as an introductory amuse-bouche or olives or bread rolls or even a chocolate with the bill – that can make the difference between a good meal and a special one. Service was good and there was no irritating music, but it just wasn't a special experience, which is what I wanted on the day I received my first state pension payment (yippee!). The fact that there were only 6 other people there, on a Saturday, perhaps says it all. Come on, guys, you can do better than this!

Very unfriendly greeting from the gentleman behind the bar not the best start. Bar area very uninviting dark and zero atmosphere . No champagne on the drink menu by the bottle, just crossed out with a pen. A restaurant with no champagne?? Taken to a table which I have sat better in a cafe also sit under a speaker with pop music playing (not very in keeping) Food too be fair was very good 👍 To top it off some guess from the bar with their dogs enter the restaurant to have a loud conversation with some friends. We have been dining here for years, one of our favourites. We visited on Friday for a Birthday celebration, sadly we won't be returning. We were greeted by an unhelpful, surly waitress (the young waiter was very nice and smart). The little touches have all gone, along with the crisp white table cloths, smart decor and friendly professional, smart staff. The classy feel and menu have been replaced with 'Iceland' style tasteless starters and average/arrogant service. Even the lovely complimentary bread now has to be paid for. We waited so long to get the waiters attention that we just asked for the bill in the end. We would have ordered desert wine and coffees had we not been made to feel an inconvenience. Such a shame, this restaurant always felt special, bit of a treat but now feels cold and lifeless.

The Butcher's Arms is a wonderful old building & used to be a place where one could be guaranteed of a superb dining experience. Sadly, it lost its character after Lino left, along with the wonderful sweet trolley. We have had a number of meals there since that point & in my opinion it is no longer an outstanding restaurant with excellent service & one feels as though one is having a very special evening that has the edge on that offered by other local restaurants. Our welcome from the young barman was good, but our meal order was taken rather routinely with no further interaction between us and our server. There was no offer of table water to accomapany the drinks we had ordered at the bar & there were no flowers or a candle on the table to enhance the ambience. At no point while eating did anyone come to ask if everything was alright. We declined a pudding as we were full, despite the online offer of free desserts, & our bill exchange with the owner/manager was then brief & business like, with no casual conversation that would have shown an interest as us as customers. Most tables were taken and it appeared that preferential treatment, was being given to larger groups & the diners celebrating a very special occasion. While the latter is good, staff should have an eye for all their customers. The decor in some arrears has got rather tired & as the dining area no longer has the wonderful photos of past guests it has become rather bland. It has to be said that the menu options are good for both meat & vegetarian eaters & our meals were delicious - tasty & nicely cooked with fresh vegetables. We are more than happy to pay top prices for the right environment, excellent food & good service. While our food was excellent, we didn't consider that the menu prices were justified given our overall dining experience & there is local competetion at a more reasonable cost. The Butcher's Arms has such potential & it is sad to find that it is not what is was.

Oh my goodness, this once magical place has sadly gone. I have been visiting this gem for 20 years on a yearly basis as a treat. Visiting this year it's clear the family that built such an amazing place have sold and left and sadly I will never return. The food was a little over standard so now overpriced but more importantly the service was average to poor.. So many faults but many are simple things such as attention to detail, the ladies that greeted us had no warmth or smile and clearly not interested in doing their job. The building had most of their lights turned off including the actual signage outside the building with no flowers which it always made an example. Waking up this morning I was still sad that such an amazing place I once highly recommended has fallen to such depths. RIP the Butchers Arms you were once the greatest of the region.

Four of us booked for a belated birthday lunch (after a couple of hours clay shooting, so damp and hungry). Saturday lunchtime was very quite, I have no idea why!! This is a charming place with unobtrusive but attentive staff and an excellent menu and wine list. A traditional English inn which still (thank the Lord) serves a couple of hand-pumped beers alongside its high-quality food. A couple of Portuguese specialties supplement an otherwise English/French food and wine offer. Everything we had was exceptional (particularly muscles starter!) and plates were returned clean. And before you start, yes I do know the middle classes are supposed to leave something on the plate and try to adopt a look of preoccupied indifference when it's collected; I've witnessed a million performances!! But I'm working class, we were hungry, and this was to good to leave. Anyway, back to the review, ...largely washed down with an excellent Portuguese red. Fish cakes in particular, were completely delicious and not even a distant cousin of the usually, potato-filled, pub-grub affairs. These were moist, savoury and packed with seafood flavour. Couldn't fault the place.

I could recommend the duck which was cooked to perfection, served with fresh carrots, cabbage, and dauphinoise potatoes. Followed by rice pudding creme brulee. The tables in the restaurant are well spaced, so the ambient noise levels are low.

Visited for the first time to celebrate a birthday, it was also Father’s Day so there was a set menu. The menu had amazing choice, something for everyone. Service was quick and food was delicious. Dog friendly too which was an added bonus.

Disappointed. This used to be a beautiful, traditional, fine dining restaurant but its a far cry from that these days. No attention to detail, the flower beds were bare; the old cloakroom used to be curtained off but is now exposed showing bits of unused...

Highly recommend this restaurant. We’ve been here a few times for special occasions and have never been disappointed. The food is lovely, the service great and we were made to feel very welcome, not to mention the ambience of being in a 14th century building.

This once fantastic restaurant now fails to deliver. Such a shame that the standards which Lino set in the years gone by have slipped. What was once a lovely occasion to have the fortune to go to, is now a mediocre expensive venue. Silver service is no more. The sense of occasion has gone. The warmth and character of the staff is no more. Dead flowers in all the hanging baskets outside (and this is May). Brass not polished, Rest rooms - :( We ordered from the A la carte menu, however what was once an experience to behold, is now just like any cost saving better than average restaurant. The starters were a fraction of the quality and size they used to be. The mains were mediocre. The Tournedos Rossini of yesteryear was a shameful production of what the Butchers Arms was well known for. Having had this, and many other dishes off the menu circa a dozen times over many years, where the consistent quality and reproduction was faultless. All this could be acceptable if the cost per head for a starter and main, with a glass or two was not circa £50 Per head. Such a shame that a fantastic venue is no more.

Great food but feels like it’s lost a little bit of its magic…. We have eaten at the Butchers arms over the last 20years and enjoy it’s quiet scenic location, well off the beaten track and an absolute gem of a restaurant, beautiful log fire, large dining areas. Last night it felt somewhat strange though, the special spark was missing, food was amazing as always and credit to the chef and team on this, service felt disjointed, only two staff on and at times this came across as not enough, delays on drinks and desert arrivals dropped my overall five to four. Look forward to returning in the new year and hopefully the magic will have returned.

Booked a table for a 12.30 luncheon recently. Arrived at stipulated time to find no lights on in entrance. Unfamiliar with the venue, we mistakenly arrived at the ladies toilets rather than the bar. On rectifying our mistake, we were greeted by a rather surly woman, who lacked any greeting warmth, and merely wanted our pre drinks order, which would be brought to our selected table, whilst at the same time she would bring us menus. On delivery of the drinks we were advised she would return to take our order. This seating area was not very impressive compared later with the excellent ambience of the restaurant dining area, with a collection of old dusty picture frames haphazardly lent against a side wall, not to mention paint marks/stains on the table. After half an hour no sign of orders being taken, so we rose up and indicated that we wished to place our order. Clearly we had been forgotten. First course arrived at 13.15 followed by main course at 13.46 and dessert at 14.15. There was one male waiter attending at least 10 tables and over 30 people, with meals, additional drinks orders and clearing tables, not to mention arranging payment of customer's accounts. This gentleman was obliging but obviously working under extreme pressure but coping admirably. HOWEVER THE QUALITY AND PREPARATION OF ALL THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT. The only minor observation, that a small portion of bread with chorizo first course would have been appreciated. If only the initial greeting and standard of service matched that of the restaurant and food. This was our first visit and left us with very mixed feelings.

As a sufferer of IBS i needed the toilet urgently after travelling all day to and from st. barts hospital for a pre accessment for heart surgery . Every toilet i went to at stratford train which was quite a walk from one to the other ,were all out of action ! I had to go to the shopping centre to find one ! With several pay rises , you would expect a necessity like a toilet would be working !!
