We had reserved but wished we hadn’t, plus there was no need as we were the only group in the darkened dining room until the lights came on belatedly. We helped ourselves to menus. Then we found that fish and chips were off the menu, and the only fish available was scampi. We chose something else instead but were told that beef burgers were off the menu too - making for a very disappointed teenager. What! Two basic pub staples not available on a Thursday evening. That was the final straw! We drank up and left, and fortunately found excellent food and hospitality in Cleeve Prior. Sorry to have to tell the truth as we prefer to be supportive of local pubs, who have been beset on all sides for the last few years but the visit was dire, and not what you want for a family get-together, one of whom had travelled many miles to join us. It was a real downer but our family get-together was saved by The King’s Arms in Cleeve Prior.

The pub itself is a nice typical English pub in the lovely village of Barton. Good drinks choice. Food is pub grub. Nothing fancy but okay. It was one of those village pubs where you walk in there appears to be a frosty welcome from the locals but they soon forget you are there. Young bar staff were nice but the older woman was not. I don't know if she was the landlady but she didn't have a welcoming nature, more of a "how dare you come into the pub" nature. Came across as misery tbh. Never smiled. Over the weekend we did go here twice as we stayed in Barton, but there is a short walk (15-20 minutes) into Bidford On Avon across the fields where there were more places to eat and drink. Bulls Head was nice. They were friendlier there too :o) I would not say, do not go to this pub. Just don't expect a lot.

Never write reviews but a treat turned into disappointment...it baffles me how any cook/chef would let any dish leave the kitchen on the basis of, if I wouldn't eat it why would anyone pay to eat it... I ordered the Chicken curry, rice & poppadom - rice looked like it was thrown onto the plate with Curry in dish half on top of it, there was quite a generous portion dry chicken with not even a tablespoon of sauce so half way through I was spitting feathers my mouth was that dry - table check was done way too late & I complained politely and opted for a £5 reduction off the bill...we were the 1st customers that evening so no excuse I used to be a waitress for 10 years and if I was given that curry to take to a customer I would have brought it to cook/chef attention rather than disappoint a customer and get a bad review my partners wasn't happy with his either...

We arrived 15 minutes before the kitchen was due to close but that wasn't an issue, and they were happy to serve us. We both had the roast beef and when it arrived the food was fantastic - freshly cooked, tender, and with plenty of potatoes, vegetables and gravy. Great value as well, and just what was needed after a 3 hour walk 😄 Thoroughly recommended, and we'll be back if we're in the area.

We were all delighted with our choices and the meat, veg and all the trimmings were thoroughly enjoyed by all and surprisingly only £12 95 per adult. I can honestly say the most delicious and value for money meal I have had in a very long time.

We used to love this pub always having lunch there after a walk in the Heart of England Forest. Then they cut their hours drastically, only serving food at the weekends. We thought we would try them after a long absence. So disappointing and I won't visit again - maybe for a drink in the summer, that's all. It was a very cold day, the day of our visit so you would think there would some form of heating. Nothing. The few people eating lunch were sitting in their coats. The radiators weren't on. The wood burner wasn't on. There was some kind of large and ugly electric fire - we asked for it to be switched on but the heat was negligible. As for the food, well, of course everything has risen in price so £9 for a panini and chips. The fillings were completely tasteless. Cheapest possible fish finger and not much of that and I say "finger" here. Brie, again tasteless, I suspect a very cheap variety. Salad garnish - well, not even a slice of tomato but a tiniest sliver of tomato. This pub can do better. I don't know if it has changed hands.

Not good, very cold inside pub and didn't start well when served a pot of tea with luke warm water. Food wasn't the best either, tasteless chicken curry with rice swimming in water overcooked fish and four which should be hot desserts, apple crumble, jam sponge, sticky toffee puddings all served stone cold with just hot custard. All returned. Haven't been here for many years when it had a very good reputation but won't hurry back unfortunately.

This is a new venue for Bidford Car Boot which sadly doesn't compete. Very disorganised with the sellers being just set out in no particular order, not in lines but just higgeldy piggeldy ask over the place. On top of which you now have to pay to park! With VERY limited parking available. Why on earth do we have to pay to enter a setting where we are going to spend money anyway? Having been a fan of Bidford for some years I certainly won't be visiting this new venue anytime soon.

Awful camp site, unclean showers and toilets and the field was a disgrace with motor homes and caravans getting stuck. Can’t comment on the food as when we tried to order we were told they had nothing left, this was about 3pm we were told we could order from just eat but would have to eat at a table furthest away from the pub or go back to our pitch to eat.. Motor home got stuck when we arrived and again when leaving if it wasn’t for the other campers help we would still be there now. My advise would be go if you must when it is dry and book a table for food if you want to eat here. Would not recommend and will never return to this place again.

This should be called “ the cottage of discontent “ , it’s not a campsite it’s a pub with a muddy field behind it, we got our motor home stuck as we entered the field and asked in the pub for some assistance and was told someone would come and tow us out, 3 1/2 hours later I had to ask another camper to help which gladly he did and eventually got to our pitch.I went for a shower and found the lock on the door broken, I had to undress in the uncleaned toilet as there was no room to do so in the shower room. The next day we went to another village for a drink as we were told the pub didn’t open until 3pm on our return ( before 3pm) we asked for a food menu only to be told they had no food left, as the pub had been open anyway. When leaving the site on Monday we had to ask again for assistance as everyone was getting stuck in the mud. I went to the toilet and found it had not been cleaned since my arrival. Would never stay here again and would recommend anyone who does to go when it’s dry, don’t waste your money on this place.

We have been coming to camp at the cottage of content yearly for over 20 years. Usually A** and maybe its because we came mid week Mon- Wed this time (usually stay weekends) but the pub didn't open until 3pm and NO food could be purchased. With there being a campsite maybe a snack bar would be welcomed during the season? Or your food van between certain hours EVERY day I'm sure it would be an asset to your site. Was really looking forward to Julia's homemade curry sauce which is definitely a must if you visit. Didn't see Julia on this visit but there was a blonde lady with a lab who didn't seem like she wanted to be there. Didn't even respond when I asked if she was ok whilst carrying a giant number 3 light. I just assumed it was maybe because I had emailed the night before to let them know there was no toilet roll as a few of the other campers were complaining about it in which I got no reply and there was still no toilet roll when we left. I do hope that you can resolve these few issues for future campers as it's a lovely site in a lovely area. The new toilet/shower area is a lot better than it was before. I will return but definitely on a weekend. Still craving the curry sauce 🤣

We visited Saturday evening for the first time having been recommended by a work colleague. The pub has a good campsite attached so plenty of parking and a relaxed atmosphere. Lovely bar area good choice of ales and cider. We had booked a table so settled down for a our meal - plenty of gluten free options and a lovely American waitress. We had nachos and steak with sauces - all good. I'm giving 4 stars as I'm not a fan of frozen fatty chips but other than that a lovely evening followed by a walk on the river.

Went to the Cottage for lunch and chose the senior citizen meals, 1course,2 courses or 3 courses for under £11. The food was amazing and plentiful, and the menu was very enticing. Will certainly go back again.

The pub is ok with friendly staff, the seating out the front is alright but not very nice out the back next to the bins and camp ground. The campsite itself is awful and not properly managed.. lots of unpleasant people around. Not for the faint hearted!

Such a lovely old building, very friendly and welcoming staff, with one particular lady who couldn’t do enough, carrying my heavy case upstairs (thank you). The true highlight was dinner in front of the log burner, with the best steak pie I have ever eaten! I’ll remember this place for a long time and will definitely be back!

Poor in comparison to what it originally was some years ago when privately owned. We thought the food was very average and somewhat overcooked, prices high both for drinks and food. Very nice inside and a good atmosphere, friendly staff but that I am afraid is where it ends, Certainly would not rush back or recommend

Laura, Felan and the team hosted a group of us recently for a buffet meal. As ever the food was exceptional and the service brilliant. Can't recommend the Golden Cross highly enough. Thanks to everyone!

Had a great time a couple weeks back at the Holly Bush. The bar staff where lush amd chatty had lots of space for me and my group of friends to hang out. Played darts , played bord games and had a great beer choice.
