Toby Carvery in Darlington

Overall it was good but the meat portion sizes just made me feel I’d been robbed, everybody in the restaurant were talking and complaining about them they really were disgusting, off each meat the were about 3-4 inches long and about 1 inch wide and cut wafer thin I upgraded to large after seeing the portion sizes but the only difference between them was you got 2 sausages on the large for an extra £2 that’s £1 a sausage, I won’t be returning to Toby Carvery Darlington much better value for money at a pub chain

I go regular to toby carvery in darlington on this ocasion 9th of october every thing was cold worst meal ibe ever had think twice before going again

First time we been for breakfast, NEVER again , why u ask ? 1 - staff miserable looked like don’t want be there not friendly, or welcome, 2 the chef came out the kitchen if I seen him before hand I would walk out so so dirty looking- uniforms stains , dirty - , dirty beard greasy looking, no. beard net , no hair net on - his hair was greasy or and no chef hat , 3/ food cold - definitely not valued for money - Definitely recommended the beefeater just long the way near Morrison- Definitely worth the money . My son and I come here once a week for a carvery and dessert, every time the food is excellent and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, today we came and both noticed the food was outstanding, especially the meats and roasties, my son even had second helping of roasties. We were served by Stacey today. I passed our comments onto her to notify the kitchen staff of our satisfaction.

Food was all dried up hardly any meat left the meat that was left was burnt and dried up the veg looked all dried up so we left even if it was free I would have still left told the waitress we weren’t stopping she just said sorry not her fault poor girl

Arrived without a booking on a very busy Friday lunchtime but the lady who greeted us tried very hard and managed to find us a table. Stacey, our waitress, was very helpful and attentive, which was much appreciated as we hadn't been for lunch before and didn't know the ropes! We had a set meal, with a good choice of veg from the carvery. Would recommend.

Great food as always, big shout out to the guy who was serving the meat (I believe he was called Steve) - engaged fully with every person in the queue and was really bubbly and seemed so happy to be there, he’s a credit to your team! All the staff at Toby Darlington are very attentive and friendly and always make me feel welcome whenever I visit.

This was another good visit. The chef doing the carving and Sophie our waitress were both excellent. The chef was very engaging and chatted to everyone in a friendly and individual way: a real talent. Sophie was engaging and attentive but not false. Everything was done timely and comfortably. So professional and hard working but made it look easy. Of course the food was as good as it always is. The meat was good as always with a good choice, however the real star was the roast tates. But the rest of the veg , gravy and Yorkshire pudding was tasty, hot and freshly cooked. A real pleasure.

Cost me £37 plus 20% vat for the most insulting sunday dinner, the meat was nothing but fat basically un chewable, the stuffing looked like utter slop and not edible the only thing that was nice was the drink I couldn’t even eat the food not to sound picky but my god it was terrible will definitely not be eating there again and id advise others not to because you just do not get your moneys worth.

Absolute shocking meal this evening. Arrived at 7.30pm - greeted by an amazing team member with red/strawberry blonde hair, however she was the one good thing about the visit. Friendly and helpful. The food was shocking! We regularly visit Toby’s and this was by far the worst. We chose to have the carvery with other customers dining after us choosing the same. To be greeted by a miserable chef! Limited food available with thick jelly gravy. We were Handed plates that were so hot they had to be held with tissues - I warned my children to be careful. This was clearly a health and safety issue ignored and without concern from a member of staff. My youngest was 10 years old so I made sure he had a plate lower down the pile. I shouldn’t have to be mindful of this as a customer. The cauliflower cheese was disgusting - the roast potatoes were that large they resembled jacket potatoes - hard in the middle and would make the perfect launcher! The veg was dried and shrivelled. Mash was tasteless and lumpy! I give credit where credit is due but the meal was that bad I can’t find a positive. £100 total bill. I was asked if everything was ok at this point but since we could clearly tell staff wanted to go home I thought I would swallow the cost and hit with a negative review instead because to be blunt I don’t think they would’ve been that bothered the meal was that bad. I know it can be annoying hoping to have an early finish and clear up but you should never make customers feel rushed or uncomfortable. The helpful member of staff (who finished shift half way through our meal) mentioned they serve breakfast also, initially prior to sampling the monstrosity of a carvery this was perfect as we are staying close by. Safe to say that won’t be happening and our business will go else where. So, after purging my dissatisfaction in this review, my warning would be to avoid this establishment - especially from 7pm onwards - uwhere the results of the carvery will decline by the second! An embarrassment to this very popular chain/franchise - Toby need to evaluate fast! Very disappointed and let down.

Went for family meal , we where squeezed into a booth for 4 , there was 6 adults , beef was fatty and not really edible , meal otherwise ok , when it came to payment 2 humourless waitresses wafted bill under our noses , saying WHO IS PAYING , WE ARE ALL OVER 60 , do we look like we going to run without paying ,? We were staying next door in the Travelodge, so had 'all you can eat' breakfast here on two mornings and carvery one evening. The food was fresh and plentiful, not at all greasy and regularly topped up. Great value too! Lance is a great character. He made us laugh and feel welcome.

We were Up 'n Out by 8am to travel 15 miles for an NHS Appoinment! Non invasive, Blood related ; timed o'er Two Days : To the Present. No time to Cook a Breakfast so we Chose a Toby Carvery : All you can Eat. One plateful and a bit of Toast was Enough : Went Down a Treat! The place was 'Steady Away' with Custom & Staff were Polite & Efficient. Some Customers made repeated Forays however what We had was Sufficient! Bacon, Beans, Mushrooms, Sausage, Egg, Hash Browns plus tasy Potato AND Yorkshire Pud! I'm a Big Guy ; however drew the line at Two Refeshing Coffee's : ALL More than GOOD.

we visit this toby frequently and every single time we’re always met with amazing food and even better service. pretty much every time we’re there, Hayley is always the first person to greet us, and often serves us, always goes the extra mile to make us feel welcome. always very fast to get our drinks and check on us, 10/10 service every time. Nikita also frequently serves us and did on this occasion. always lovely and again always provides fast, exceptional service. the carver, Ellen, is always really friendly and a great conversationalist. It was sad to see her have to deal with rude customers but she remained professional and friendly regardless. whilst Amy didn’t serve us today, she previously had many times before and her excellent customer service skills we feel should be recognised. she’s always really lovely. we could both go on about our all round excellent experiences here. every single staff member on one occasion or more has provided us exceptional service. one of the friendliest, and happiest teams, both front and back of house, we have ever been guests too. thankyou very much for being amazing!
