Lovely meal with my wife we both enjoyed it and will be back soon.

We never usually eat out for Sunday Roast as I always think homemade is best. However, we managed to get a last-minute booking here, and it was absolutely lovely. Roasties and yorkshire puddings homemade and food pipping hot and tasty. Definitely recommend, also dog friendly

Beautiful picturesque English style Pub

We were going to have lunch here. We went in got a small table next to the door and looked at the menu. And with no heating on, it felt really cold. The menu was the last straw when we saw fish and chips for £18.50. Ridiculous. We left and went elsewhere, where fish and chips was £12.95.

Came for dinner with my family last Saturday. Food was absolutely beautiful, staff were lovely and attentive and the place itself was great. Will definitely be back.

What’s happened to the wine? All of the ladies that drink wine are very unhappy with the lack of choice and quality. We used to get a 250ml glass of wine for £6.00 - now, under new ownership, we are only able to get 187ml individual bottles of not very good wine for £5.50!!! Also, food appears to have declined - my sizzle platter arrived at the table sizzle free and the plate was swimming in the over-sweet sauce! Not good! As locals we often go in at least a couple of times a week so we’re disappointed. Please can’t we have our old George and Dragon back please?

Very pleasant venue located within a nice quiet village. Friendly and helpful staff. Outside seating is also available. Dog-friendly as well.

Sunday lunch was good but the pork crackling was dreadful was like rubber not crispy at all … couldn’t even cut through it… so very disappointed with that … not at all like belly pork but the pork loin was nice.. will go again in the hope the crackling has improved

First time trying this place and it didn’t disappoint. Went with 3 friends and the food was beautiful I had the chargrilled chicken and my friends has the scampi and the chicken schnitzel the chips are to die for and the portion size is really good! I had the sticky toffee pudding and my friends had the eton mess both pudding were really beautiful and all this and 2 drinks for just under £30 absolute bargain! Would highly recommend and will be returning 😍

Had the parmo was nice. Wife had the Greek chicken burger and she enjoyed it. All I would say is the basic parmo was £15 to add toppings on is £2 per topping. So I added jalapeño and Bolognase. Which imo made it on the expensive side. But tbf it did taste nice.

We enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch. Top- quality food, friendly yet efficient service. The children’s roast was excellent value. It’s refreshing that children are made so welcome here. We will definitely return!

Absolutely superb Sunday lunch - we all had the roast beef which was cooked beautifully, served with roast potatoes, a good sized Yorkshire pudding and plenty of vegetables and extra gravy. Deserts afterwards (sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and caramel apple pie with cream) were also knockout. Staff were great and the service was excellent. Thoroughly recommended 👍

Called for lunch today. Restaurant was very busy but we were served a super delicious lunch very promptly. Haddock and home made chips were piping hot and super fresh. Banoffi Pie and Apple Pie for our desserts rounded off our meal. Great value and our little dog Lyndy (photo attached) sends woofy thanks for her scrumptious treat. 🐶💕 Would highly recommend!

We had our Office Christmas Lunch

Arrived without a reservation on a Thursday evening, we had been to an event an was stopping on the way to our hotel. The lady at the bar fitted us in before a later reservation an gave us an hour an half which we gladly accepted. The pub was lovely, old setting but nice and warm and welcoming even to a family of 7 not from the area. They took our orders shortly after sitting us, and the drinks came quickly. Short wait for the food but completely acceptable times. Food was lovely all 6 adults and 2 kids agreed and empty plates sent back, the only down side was as we didn’t book we didn’t have time for dessert, (in hindsight we should have asked if we could have took away). Great venue and service all round, would recommend.

Every time we visit from Leeds we have the Sunday lunch it's absolutely gorgeous and staff are lovely and very accomadating as we are a big family 🥰

1st time trying food here and won't be the last... Lovely little dog friendly pub.. staff very friendly and welcoming. Food service was quick and the quality was lovely. We all enjoyed our Meals. We even made room for dessert.

Christmas meal for 12, although the food was nice, orders were mixed up and even after landlady admitted responsibility it was looked over and two of our party had to eat main courses they didn't order or like, sat with our coats on as it was so cold , there was a log burner in the corner of the room ,unlit, no Christmas crackers, decorations etc, couple of the regulars made comments to one of our party. Very unwecolming atmosphere from couple of the staff, could wait to go home after meal to get warm, won't be going back, very unprofessional.

Sunday Lunch with family. This establishment never fails to impress. Beef and Pork absolutely delicious, an array of vegetables all cooked to perfection. Great friendly service, good range of ales on offer. First class, highly recommend.

We phoned ahead to book here as it was dog friendly ( I find it's always better to call ahead and check it's ok ) so glad we did , what a beautiful place , black pudding starters were superb and the roast dinners were magnificent, would recommend you bring a good appetite as the portions are very generous, staff were friendly and welcoming

Arrived on time for our booking & had short wait as no one at bar we were shown to our table when a member of staff arrived. Drinks order taken & arrived quickly given time to look at menu then order taken as I like at table. Starters arrived nicely presented & eaten promptly all very nice plates cleared & main courses served after short wait as this is a pub that serves fresh food cooked from fresh. This is where our experience changed we where asked of everything was ok for us. Table cleared when we had finished & asked if we would like dessert menu yes please we replied. We waited & waited asked again when they where thrown on table we then waited but after 25 mins from saying yes to us going & paying nobody had been to ask if we wished to order. This was a huge disappointment for us & Pub as we missed our sweets & they missed 4 purchases. We have eaten here numerous times & never has service been as poor. We will return as food is excellent, (except 7 yr old Grandson who said service was atrocious.) It was his disappointment of no dessert.

Super staff, atmosphere, food and general feeling. Easy parking nearby and easy going with our dog. We had the beef and veggie roast - both excellent. Great selection of beers and but for driving I would have liked to try them all. Overall an excellent pub.

Excellent Sunday Roast. Family of 7, ages from 10 to 70. We were well accommodated and served quickly. We had a somewhat awkward order, but staff were happy to help. We all had roasts, chicken and beef and they were delicious. Plenty of meat and loads of veg. All pipping hot and very tasty. Puddings we’re gorgeous too, and large. Well done all at the George and Dragon!!!

just been for lunch and the food was 5* had the light bite menu and really was good quality beautiful roast dinner the veg was fresh the yorkshire pud was lovely beef was very tender my husband had the haddock chips and mushy peas he said the best he has had in along time we both had dessert wich was really good will be going again in the near future.

Brilliant place, food fantastic. It was fresh so I expected to wait a little bit longer to come out. Parking is limited so I had to find space in the village.

We were staying in a cottage nearby. Went for a drink with group of 10. 6 adults 3 under 5 and a baby. Staff found us a table big enough for all of us. Lovely country pub. Didn't eat there but it did look nice. If we are in the area again would definitely re-visist.

We’ve been coming to the George and Dragon as our “go to” country pub for a number of years and it never disappoints. IMO It’s the best country pub in the Darlington area for quality, quantity and value for money. Everything is always cooked fresh (and never frozen) including the chips! There’s always at least 2 decent handful beers available which are changed frequently. The haddock and chips take some beating.

Had a really really great Sunday lunch ,my sister and partner said one of the best they have had I second this .

Pleasant staff and prompt service. Unfortunately my food was inedible and got sent back. It was meant to be crisp belly pork. The rind was soggy and the meat totally undercooked to the point when a steak knife couldn’t cut it. The problem was dealt with really well but we won’t be going back for food I’m afraid.

Our monthly get together was once again first class in both food & service. The staff never fail to be spot on. Great choice on menu food is first class, freshly cooked using local produce. Well presented & always hot. Great value for money.

Called here 'on spec' for a mid week lunch with family... The menu was extensive and varied with something for everyone. Staff were friendly and professional in their duties. Food was served hot, delicious and looked appetising, tasting just as good!! Recommended and will call here again for sure.

9 of us in our family party for Sunday lunch. Staff were very welcoming. Between us, we ordered beef, lamb, pork, chicken. I chose pork, and it was delicious. Everyone else said theirs was too. Huge portions, served with a variety of veg, plus Yorkshire pudding. We also ordered cauliflower cheese, which was very nice. Everything was served piping hot. I couldn't cope with a dessert as I was too full, but enjoyed the cappuccino coffee. Highly recommended.

What a lovey village pub. My husband ordered the mixed grill and I ordered roast pork. When served the plates were full, so much so my husband couldn't eat the hand cut chips because of the amount of various meats (pork, gammon, sausages, steak, chicken) alongside the black pudding, onion rings, mushrooms and tomatoes that were on his plate. The roast pork was tender, vegetables cooked the way I like them. Both of us enjoyed our meal, excellent value for money. Both ladies serving us were pleasant and friendly. I would definitely recommend The George and Dragon to our friends and family.

Cold outside we popped in to find a real blazing fire on the go and welcoming staff. Ordered lunch of fish and chips and liver and bacon. The plates and portions were huge! Homemade, cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. Excellent value for money too. Being Dog friendly made it extra special for us as well.

Arrived 4-45 on a 18/11/22 without booking got a table for 2. Very pleasant attentive staff. Drinks order taken & delivered promptly even though they where very busy. 3 different menus to choose from we choose 2 courses for 12-95 or 3 courses for £15...

Awful food and awful service. I wouldn't ever go back. It took for ages to arrive as well; wasn't impressed with the service either.

Fantastic meal at The George & Dragon in Heighington. Parmos to die for and a superb chicken curry. It's been a while since we went out and had such an excellent meal. The service was great and the staff were friendly. The pub was busy but they got our food out in good time. There is something for every taste on the menu. Thursday night is grill night, so look out for the special offers, eg: two 10oz rump steaks and a bottle of wine for £25. The portions are big, so go with a big appetite! There was a good choice of desserts. If you opt for the cheeseboard you might need a doggy bag. Perfect for cheeseaholics!
