We wandered in to the Grassmere area after our audio tour of the castle and thought this pub checked the requisite character box. Few tables were available even for drinks but our timing was lucky. One of if not the oldest pub in Edinburgh so best to reserve ahead if you want to eat.

Food was mediocre at best. The food wasn’t really hot and half the menu had been removed because of some sort of “tech issue”. Drinks were ok and food came out very quickly but not sure I would recommend this for anything other than a drink. But it was nice and warm!

Food was bueatiful, yet disgusting attitude of the lady behind bar I'm sure she was head manager, myself and my staff was having lunch with the ppl we support, when eating dessert the person we support was having trouble swallow chocolate cake, she had started panicking i went to bar where it was a queue so went to the nearest lady who was taking stuff back to bar,I politely ask please can I have a glass of water, she didn't stop an answer just mumbled back I'm busy doing something didn't even turn around to answer just walked of,by this time I had to go to ladies toilet to get water, appalling behaviour, food and atmosphere is outstanding there tho, seemed as if sum1 had an off day,the situation could of turned a lot worse!

Came here for lunch with my family. It’s abit out the way on Ormskirk Road but definitely worse stopping at. The outside and inside was lovely. All the staff were great and the food came in fine time. My chicken Pizza was great!

Out catching up with a friend over dinner. The place was very busy. Staff were very attentive and friendly. The place was presentable in a pub chain kind of way. I was asked aboout allergies and raw onion is one for me. The message didn't get through for the prawn cocktail but it was easy enough to remove it from the plate. It must have been already made up and kept in the fridge. The whole plate was devoid of any taste. It was watery and bland. The two hunks of bread served with it with an individual plastic lurpak plonked on top were fridge cold and hard. For the mains my friend had the roast lamb and I had the spiced lentil pie. I cant help feeling that the whole thing had been prepared off site and microwaved. My pie was a soggy glutenous lump. It majored on the pastry with hardly any filling. It came with some mash, a miniture copper saucepan of peas and huge gravy boat totally out of proportion to the rest of it. It looked big and value for money but when you took the theatre from the plate it was a pile of over processed crap. When a member of staff came over to ask if everything was ok I couldn't say "It was lovely thank you". She offered too replace the meal and I had a curry. It was certainly a step up from the pie which I was grateful for but still I couldnt help feeling this was another over procressed preprepared microwaved meal. The staff were really good at the customer service. The manager came over and apologised. I would rate the three elements for a good customer experience service (4*) setting (4*) and food (1*).
