Browns Brasserie & Bar in Bath and North East Somerset

I was so excited to visit Browns in Bath but left disappointed and we couldn't wait until we could leave. We'd booked at table at 2pm for Bottomless Brunch. We got there just before 2pm and our table was still occupied. Reassured by the host it would be ready shortly, 15 minutes later it wasn't ready but they found us another table... squashed into a dark, damp corner and not as nice as the table we should have had. As it had gone 2pm, bottomless brunch was no longer on the menu and we had to opt for a la carte. Restaurant felt very dark and dingey, not the experience I was expecting at all.

Really enjoyed the outside patio! Drinks and lunch were amazing! Thank you for a wonderful lunch!

Great experience at Browns, lovely food and lovely atmosphere. Annabelle served us, she was very attentive and ensured we had a lovely time.

We had a lovely time at browns for our afternoon tea and had such lovely service. However, the only thing was that the bread with our sandwiches were stale, the lemon meringue tart had a grainy after-texture and there was no tea strainer with my loose leaf tea. I would visit again but perhaps not for afternoon tea.

Tom and the team were excellent. I visited for a friends birthday and the service and food was great. Would highly recommended

Avoid this place at all costs!!! Chose to order drinks here due to its prime location and did expect to pay a premium for this. I did not expect a glass packed with so much ice that there was hardly any room for the drink!! This was such an incredible short serving of Aperol spritz. I have lost count of the number of these drinks I have consumed & the number of bars that I have purchased them from . I was so disappointed that I decided to complain. The drink was ordered via waiter service so I tried to attract his attention to do this. By the time I was eventually able to do this, I had finished the drink but most of the ice hadn’t melted so I felt this would prove my point. The waiter told me that is how they serve Aperol spritz. I therefore asked to speak to the manager (Earl). He told me the same as the waiter. He also explained how the correct way to serve it was with 2/3 a glass of ice. I pointed out that even though some of the ice hadn’t melted so melted at this point, he could see that there was more ice than that in my glass. I could continue to explain his arrogant and rude attitude but I’d be wasting my breath, like I did with my complaint on the day. I will never choose to customise a Browns’ bar again, be warned

I booked a reservation at Brown's for our Wedding Reception, from the beginning of the entire process the staff were amazing. They were quick to respond to all email correspondence and were extremely accommodating when a few last minute changes were required to the booking. We had a specific reservation timing but on the day the staff were helpful in extending this timing as our party of 25 people were comfortable and content in the atmosphere Brown's created. The appetite to move on to somewhere else was no longer there, this is all attributed to their great service. The only negative is that i didn't experience any paranormal activity in the Gents toilets, as i was told these are haunted! In conclusion i would like to give my most gracious thanks and deep appreciation to Earl and most of all Alec who managed the entire booking process and took care of us for the entire afternoon and evening, making our most special day so easy and full of great memories.

Great Sunday lunch, excellent food and attentive, friendly service from all the team, especially Yee Lin. Beautiful setting and relaxed atmosphere. Thank you all!

We had a lovely Easter lunch. The only odd thing was the music wasn't switched off when the piano was playing. They did turn it down when I asked though

Lovely dinner date with the girls, our waitress Alex was so lovely! Food was lush and the cocktails were so yummy :)

Came in for drinks, was greeted immediately at the door by a lovely server (I think her name is Annabelle?) and shown to the bar area. One of the two bartenders on took our drinks order, whilst the other made them and I can honestly say they were the best cocktails I’ve had in a long time! Made super quickly and to such a high quality I just had to get their names. I don’t often write reviews but Alyssa and Baz deserve a shoutout. I will be recommending to all my friends and family - when you go to Bath, visit Browns!

Can’t fault the service - Bailey was great - made my bridesmaid proposal 10/10. Would recommend to future brides

We'd booked for 13 people for afternoon tea at 3pm the food didn't arrive until 4pm, the cheese and pickle sandwiches were more pickle than cheese and the bread felt it had been sitting out for a while. We were in Brown's for ~2 hours and only offered 2 rounds of drinks

A great restaurant with very friendly staff and they deal with allergies and intolerances fabulously, really recommend!

We went to Browns in Bath on Saturday for my birthday meal. Staying the weekend in Bath. When my main meal arrived the chicken was raw. We informed the waitress and although she said how disgusting it was, we were not offered a replacement meal! Such a shame having travelled to Bath for a birthday celebration to have the night ruined by uncooked food and bad service. Hence to say won’t be visiting Brown’s again or recommending.

The food was amazing and the service by our waiter Yee Lin was incredible.

We had a great time, food was really good kuddos to the chef for the scallop. Yee Lin is really welcoming, very nice, helpful and funny!. Will definitely head back next time in Bath!

Went there for breakfast and had a pleasant experience. The atmosphere was great. We were there during the weekday and the place was quiet. Staff were attentive and nice. The lobster benedict was good though the lobster was rather small, the steak was also quite thin though the dishes were reasonably priced in my opinion.

We booked to have an afternoon tea at Browns in Bath, which we were looking forward to however, it was very disappointing. The service was ok, however the afternoon tea it self was very disappointing, the sandwiches had little food in them, the cheese ploughman sandwich had literally hardly any cheese in them, the scones were dry and the gluten free afternoon tea was bigger then the normal classic afternoon tea, the gluten free brownie was burnt and rock hard, it was very disappointing end to a lovely day out in bath. I was very disappointing in the afternoon tea experience at Browns I expecting so much better.

Please check your bill carefully. Our bill overcharged us by £28. The waiter didn't seem to be surprised. It seems this is common, so be careful. Other than that we enjoyed our food, although the lunch menu portions could be a little larger.

I had an incredible experience at Brown’s Bath thanks to Earl! His bar service was top-notch—quick, friendly, and professional. Beyond just serving drinks, Earl’s knowledge of cocktails and spirits was impressive. He took the time to recommend something based on my tastes and it was absolutely perfect. It’s rare to find someone who combines skill with such a great attitude. Highly recommend visiting when Earl is behind the bar—you won’t be disappointed!

Came here for Mother's Day with my family and the experience was pretty poor. We had a midday booking, and yet there were a lot of things on the menu that simply weren't available / sold out: two choices of our main courses (the duck course, fish and chips...) and even the wine we wanted was not available. If you're going to market yourself as a great place for Mother's Day, why not have your stock available, rather than having to apologise every time we picked something? The live piano was a nice idea, and we weren't even the closest table to it, but it was so loud we couldn't hold a conversation - it's a grand piano - shut the lid! The last straw was the slow service, from an understaffed, overworked and under-experienced team. Certainly not an experience I wish to repeat.

Of course, we couldn't go sightseeing on empty stomachs so brunch was first on the 'to do' list. After a quick browse of the brunch menu we knew we were at the right place. I had the eggs royale and my partner had the mushroom and spinach omelette. These were both exquisite and perfectly prepared and as the larger appetite of the two I can confirm both meals were equally delicious 😋. Thank you all and especially to Alex for looking after us.

This was our first experience eating in Brown's restaurant ( Bath) we arrived 30 mins early this wasn't a problem shown to our table . Food and service nothing special the experience was not enjoyable as it was freezing in the restaurant we mentioned this to everyone but no one really listened although the doors were closed for a few minutes. We asked several times if we could be moved but apparently not. When we paid the bill £151.86 which included the service charge the waitress didn't even say thankyou won't be repeating this experience

First experience of eating at Browns ....whilst we had high expectations on arrival it was quickly dashed. We were sat in a draught from the doors & was freezing!! Asked if we could move tables but told fully booked. Food was ok but nothing special as was service. Overall not a good experience 😕

Very nice place for food and drinks

My young family and I were seated in a very disruptive spot in a draughty seating area opposite the main doorway. Our food arrived plated up in a mess for my children and the fruit juices were boxed cartons charged at £2.30 each. My roast dinner arrived covered in gravy so the veg was soggy and it was cold. Our waitress disappeared and we were left without any table service for around 20 minutes. We then were served dessert and then left promptly after being scolded by a waitress for our behaviour, when my daughter was smelling my glass of wine. The bill was nearly £80 and I declined to leave a service charge. We felt very uncomfortable and I wouldn't recommend this venue for families with young children, at all.

I had a birthday lunch at browns today and it was so lovely and great vibes from all the staff especially our server menino who was so kind and lovely his service really added to the lunch. Thanking isla as well for her gorgeous birthday plate.

Nice bar/pub with a great view of Bath Abbey and close to the river. A bit away from the crowds which is a plus. The servers, likely students, were very polite. I’d definitely come back to try the food! 9.3/10 x

We went with a Bath city tour, lunch was included in the package. The food was very good, they gave us a choice between different dishes and desserts. Very good service, beautiful and warm atmosphere.

The service was impeccable as always in bath we are regular visitors to the bath restaurant. Only mild fault is veg a potatoes could have been a little hotter.

Had an amazing experience! Very central location, the interior is very welcoming and I loved the piano, the bar area, and the whole place. The food is simply delicious and our waiter was fabulous and gave us great recommendations both for food and drinks.

Browns is one of our most favourite restaurants, great food and a great atmosphere.

The first encounter we have had with this branch of Browns and Yee Lin made this an unforgettable experience. My 13 yr old son was delighted by the excitement and joy she brought to the table each time she came along and thought she was ‘soo funny’. We eat out a lot but this was a standout meal, excellent food, cocktails and superb service - thank you Yee Lin - we shall return

A nice place to visit, it is rather large inside with lots of seating. The staff seemed very vigilant about my gluten intolerance and made sure they went above and beyond to support me which was good, but this did come off as a little intense at times. Never mind better to be safe than sorry I guess. The food itself was good but not amazing for the money. The service charge was also a little expensive considering the standard of food we were served. But overall a nice place. :)

Great service, really tasty food, made to feel really welcome. Good place to catch up with friends.

The atmosphere was nice, the pianist amazing. A little chilly inside to be honest. The food was described in the menu brilliantly however it didn’t follow through. For instance the appetizer of crab on sourdough with avocado and apple was a toasted slice of white bread with guacamole spread from the co-op or Sainsbury’s not sure, tin crab and slices of apples that seemed irrelevant. Furthermore the dish was under seasoned. The burger was very good. A side salad of beets and feta was exactly that: tinned beets and cubes of feta (take it or leave it). My schnitzel came in a different form, they apologized about it and promised that the side of beets and feta will be for free and I got very pleased but we paid for it.

Massively disappointed with our visit to Brown's, the food was bland at best and the staff were mostly absent, the place didn't seem that busy, it seemed that the serving staff just wanted to "hang out" rather than actually do any work. We had to go to the bar twice for drinks and no one asked if our meal was OK? This might have been on purpose as they knew they were going to be told that the steak had no flavour and where are our drinks!?! I would not recommend going here and I will not be returning, I would however highly recommend the Botanist, great venue, great service and great food, sorry browns you need to up your game!

It was freezing cold in the upstairs room. Thankfully I was with a lovely group so that was a distraction. The food was almost inedible. I had shepherds pie. It was bland and the side of veg was overcooked and tasteless. The service was attentive though one of our group received her main way after the rest of us and didn’t eat it anyway.

We had a great visit to Browns. Our Server Yee Lin was really friendly, attentive and helpful. Food was lovely, as were the cocktails. We mentioned it was a birthday visit and were given a surprise pudding. Definitely will visit again.

Always great food, beautiful ambience and the service is fast and polite. Prices are reasonable according to the portion offered.

Needing a quick lunch while in the town, I went to Browns in Bath and had a traditional fish and chips paired with a pint of Aspall cider. The well presented dish was delicious, with the generous portion of battered haddock fresh-tasting, and the chips perfectly crunchy. I was delighted by the fast and courteous service provided by server Ava, who efficiently accommodated my tight timeline. Highly recommended.

We dined here as a walk table to celebrate an achievement. The hostess was nice, polite and smiley and guided us to a nice table. We were a little surprised as we had previously dined at the Oxford browns a few years back, and by comparison this was a little chabbier e.g. rocking tables, plant pots as wall decorations but without plants etc. It’s January we thought, maybe it’s from the Christmas rush. We sat and noticed how cold it was, so do bring warm clothing if it’s a cold night. We ordered steaks medium rare and a side of potatoes. My steak came out blue, so it was sent back. The same steak came back a while later, by which point my partner had almost finished the meal. Our side of potatoes were still missing despite my partner chasing them up multiple times. When my steak came out I had no cultery so had to get up and chase up as there was infrequent table checking. When I ate, the steak was cooked to medium rare but both steaks by my partner and me had a large quantity of fat compared to what we are used to from other restaurants in the area. Maybe this was a lower quality meat, or just bad luck. The staff really tired their best and were polite with every interaction. But ultimately it was an expensive meal to sit cold, eat at separate times and have fairly mediocre meals. I will say, when the potatoes did finally come out, they were fantastic. Just very late.

Very poor Veggie options Went for Sunday lunch as the menu looked good. There was a good looking veggie roast advertised. However, when we had sat down at 1pm and started drinking our drinks- we were told that there wasn't a Veggie roast available. OK, next option - pumpkin ravioli- also not available. Ended up ordering a beetroot salad- it was the size of a side dish. Nice ambience and building. The standard options looked good. They reported nice roast. Shame not for veggies I'm off to get some food now after a very disappointing Sunday lunch

Lovely restaurant, great food however the fact that they couldn’t serve ‘mocktails’ to 17 year olds spoilt the occasion.

We had a excellent meal at Browns Bath. We ate of the three course festive choice Menu, The food was absolutely tasty and well worth the money spent, Food presentation was spot on. The staff were very polite and coped well with the restaurant being very busy at this festive time, checking we were okay with everything and to top up our drinks. We often eat out here during the year and we have always enjoyed our nights out. We would definitely be going back to eat soon and we have recommended Browns to our friends who sometimes eat at Browns with us.

Great service. Very good food and wine menu. Nice atmosphere. Dinner was excellent and our server was on top of her game, welcoming us and making sure everything was prefect. The only minor area for possible improvement was our table was near the entrance area and my wife found it a little chilly.

We had the set Christmas meal at Browns in Bath, and while the atmosphere was pleasant, the experience left us disappointed. The food was okay but felt very overpriced at £95 per person, especially as no drinks were included. To add to this, our order was brought out incorrectly twice, though the staff did correct it promptly. Despite the nice setting, the cost and service issues made it hard to justify the price.

What an enjoyable festive meal for our party of 3. The braised beef was cooked to perfection, no pink meat and it was so soft and tender. The dessert was equally good. Service was excellent. Restaurant was busy with festive diners and a wedding party. Would like to eat here at other times of the year to experience the different menus.

Yee-Lin our waitress was lovely and made our visit perfect. She was so welcoming and good humoured. We had a wonderful time and the food was delicious. Cannot wait to visit again when we visit Bath again.

Food was delicious, bucks fizz ditto. Best of all was the very young and talented pianist playing near us. He made our day!

Really well served here for a large group party meal.
