Under the same management as the crown so it was a no brainier that I had to visit after having such a pleasant experience. On arrival there were countless signs about having to enter my car registration. As well as the huge sign when walking up the steps. Was seated in the conservatory and had a drinks order taken straight away. The service was amazing and the food was well above average pub food. There was a wide selection of food that would cater for everyone as well as specials. Super friendly staff that showcases the pub really well. Will be back again.

Really condescending and rude bar manager, moved the card machine away before it connected properly, obviously declined. He shouted out "that doesn't look too good does it" as if trying to embarress me. Also heard them talking and laughing about a how a couple other customers were dressed. Looks good but poor service, poor staff. Finished my drink when i eventually got it and left. Won't be returning. (Response obviously written by the man himself and just shows the type of place and atmosphere that pub employs and creates)

I've not been here for a while, so I decided to pop in for some food and drink. On arrival noticed the place has had a make over and first impressions it looked good. But after ordering, it did, and we noticed a lot of flies flying around. Along two young bar staff talking about a customer who has ordered food and was not happy about it. They carried on taking and laughing about her . They also mentioned they had watched the cctv back about it and was insulting her. We decided to go sit outside and wait for our food. We sat under the covered decking . The tables reminded me of a well-known pub chain on a Friday night. They were sticky and glasses, and plates were on all but 1 table. When the food turned up and they had to payment that's where the customer service stopped. We ate our food and left. I don't know if it's had a change in management, but I used to come here 2 to 3 times a week on a bike ride.. I may stop for drinks outside, but s for eating here, I give it a wide birth for now. Sorry guys , may have caught you on a bad day.

Our first visit for a year or so. It was supposed to be a Birthday treat, but the memory is not a happy one. Liked the new decor but the chairs are uncomfortable. The place was half empty but service was slow. The wine was lovely and the dessert was scrumptious. BUT we chose to have a ploughmans as it was a hot day and wanted salad and something cold. Worst cheese ploughman ever. £14 each and for that we had- A few scraps of lettuce leaves, one tiny tomato chopped in half, 3 scrappy slivers of apple, 2 small offcuts of cucumber, HALF a pickled onion(!), 2 small pieces of cheese, a small dish of relish and 2 pieces of bread (this took up most of the plate - I thought maybe there was some more food underneath, but no!). I regret not taking a photo but I was trying to make the most of the day. As time goes on I feel like we were robbed. £55 for 2 lunches where the main course was so sparse. Nobody bothered to ask if everything was OK, or i would have told them. We won't be back. There are plenty of better places to go. p.s. a week later and nobody cares that they have an indifferent review! I am still fed up with it!

Disappointing menu and quality of food my wife and daughter wanted lemon chicken but it was all gone so they went for the salmon which was very salty and the veg especially the carrots were not cooked or cleaned very well . My grandson had a burger which Katie managed to get the chef to cook it for a child, a plain burger and fries. The bun was burnt and the burger was crispy and very dry. My meal was a pork and chorizo dish, lots of sauce, not much pork and again very salty. It was my grandson’s 9 th birthday and my 73 birthday, so we did not complain. We paid £85 for a drink rack and 4 crap meals. Shan’t go back again.

I visited the Bird for an early evening meal with my wife and was extremely pleased and surprised . how it had changed. I was a regular customer of the old regime, visiting 3 or 4 times a month for evening meals and Sunday lunches, but I abruptly stopped after a disastrous experience three days after it changed owners . I then vowed never to return. It was my grandson and his partner who suggested I return, as it had changed for the better. The service from the young ladies who took our order was attentive and efficient, The meal was excellent and far beyond the quality of a normal pub meal, the prawn cocktail starter and our main course of a seafood pasta dish was exceptional, with a unique twist to both courses. Combined with the newly refurbished understated decor and furnishings made for a great early evening meal. I have now booked a Sunday lunch for next week so my expectations are high

We visited a while ago and had excellent fish and chips in the garden. However, today, we were disappointed with our meal. We ordered soup of the day along with one portion of chips as we were not particularly hungry. Sadly we had no spoons, the soup was tepid, watered down and incredibly salty whist the gluten free bread was as tough as old boot leather. We left the majority of our soup, shared the chips and asked for some Earl Grey tea. Sadly only breakfast tea was available. There was a good buzz in the pub and other plates of food coming from the kitchen did look rather more inviting. We'll try again another day perhaps.

Went there this evening for 6.00pm. The entire pub has been refurbished and so has the pub garden. It looks lovely. Went to the bar and registered our vehicle on the machine. Five waitresses were in the bar area. Not one person said hello to us or acknowledged us until we engaged with them. Shown to our table in the conservatory. Nobody brought menus and we had to get up and ask for drinks to be taken (we'd been sat for 15 minutes). We ordered the nachos which were lovely. £4 for a pint of diet coke each - drinks arrived quickly after we had finally be able to order some. We got the nachos to start - a HUGE portion for £9.95 and definitely worth the money! (In hindsight, we should not have ordered mains). Mains arrived very quickly so didn't have enought time to digest our starters. Nobody did a check back to see how our food was. Honestly, we probably would just go back for the nachos but as for a the overall dining experience it was a definite 4/10 due to lack of service. You can't do a full referb into a gastro-pub/ fine dining and then not execute appropriate staff training. :(

After a lovely walked we were looking forward to a Sunday lunch but we were disappointed in the quality of the service and the food. They got the order wrong but basically said it was us, so as I didn’t want to make a fuss in front of friends I accepted the beef rather than the pork. The meet was passable but very school dinner type. No offer of condiments. Staff seemed young and inexperienced we wanted non alcoholic beer which they got wrong twice which could have been dangerous as our friend cannot drink alcohol yet served wrong drink initially. Also very little choice in non alcoholic beers. Puddings were good but overall wouldn’t return as bill was £150 for 4 mains, drinks and two puddings, nothing very special. Shame as wanted to try it since under new management and refurbishment but they have lost the essence of what this Pub really is, too clinical we feel it’s lost its atmosphere of local non chain pub.

This pub is in a great spot near the river/cycle path in Saltford. I think it was meant to be table service but people were ordering at the bar. The young girls working seemed unorganised so probably quicker to order at the bar. Our starters were really nice (nachos, filo feta and croquettes). My partner and I had fish and chips which was disappointing - the battered fish was tasteless, the tartar sauce was runny and and the plate was FAR too small meaning peas/chips easily got pushed off the plate. My parents in law ordered the burger - they were too big to eat as a burger so needed to deconstruct (which defeats the point) - other than that they said it was tasty. No sign for the toilets either - weird.

This was a bit shame. I had fish and chips with peas but the plate was a small plate more appropriate for a starter and therefore it was hard to eat the chips placed under the fish and peas went all over the table (wtf? ) . Someone else in my party had the salmon this was undercooked and when we showed the 1/2 eaten meal to waitress she just said she would tell the chef but didn’t offer to adjust the bill. This place has had a modern make over but it’s lost it charm regarding the food, which was always reliably good.

A bit non plussed about the refurbishment - it feels a lot more cramped as if they’ve tried to ram more tables in to the same space so there isn’t as much privacy between tables almost rubbing elbows with the people on the next door table. Food seemed to take much longer to arrive and nothing special. Perhaps we’ve been spoilt by the Crown in the meantime. Oh and they now have cctv in the car park and you have to put your registration in to a non obvious terminal with no prompting from the staff (unlike the Crown) and you could end up spending an extra £100 if you get it wrong.

Good to see that following the refurbishment that this still is a pub that caters for drinkers but also provides very good food in the conservatory with tables for dining in the main part of the building. Starters were beef croquettes, feta and filo and calamari. I was worried that the calamari might have been frozen rings but it was a large piece of breaded squid with a sauce and side salad. Could have done with a crispy coating but nonetheless was very good. Mains were smoked haddock fillet with a crispy breadcrumbed poached egg, lambs liver and a flat iron steak. All the meals were excellent. There still is a good variety of beers, lagers and cider - could do with a dry cider. Staff were friendly and engaging. One of the tastiest sunday roasts we’ve had in a long time and the portions are very generous. Beware, you must be very hungry. 😋

Ok, I will make a disclaimer-this is my local. Earlier this year the pub changed hands. Many in the village were apprehensive about the new owner taking over. The Bird had been in the same family for over 30 years and they were very much loved and respected, and lets face it-no one likes change. However, we are nearly seven months down the line and I can honestly say The Bird is still an absolute asset to the community. Yes, there have been changes-long standing staff have sadly left, who were all part of the furniture-and have been replaced. However, the new faces have proved to be excellent in their hospitality and friendliness. Special mentions to Ethan, Ebony and Chris, who always give a welcoming smile and are happy to engage with everyone and give excellent service. With Jason and the team back in the kitchen the food is as good as it has always been. So to those of you who may have stayed away since Colin moved on, please, visit again soon, you won't be disappointed. The pub is due to shut for a few weeks from 15th Jan for a refit. Investment is being made and I am sure things will only improve further. Merry Christmas to all staff and customers at the Bird In Hand, Saltford!

Went for a quiet drink with friends 3pm on Friday 15/12/23. 2 young girls serving behind the bar clearly very inexperienced. Slow service and communication non-existent. After 10 minutes to change a barrel (the pub was not busy), the drink was brought to the table and virtually thrown down. The bad attitude was challenged, but not helped by a regular customer who was clearly drunk, rude and vocal. He seemed to be trying to ‘make an impression’ with the young girls, but looked rather foolish. The worst experience ever in a pub, and I’ve visited a few in the past 50 years. Never, ever gain.

We went for a Bday sunday lunch, food was ok but I am very sad about what happened after. We got a a parking ticket (we have been customers for the last 5 years and never registered before, also nobody told us that we needed to do it and unless you go straight in front of the till you wouldn't know). As the Pub owns the car park I sent them an email to ask if they could kindly send me back the evidence that we were there on that day so I could appeal. They never reply so I called them and they boringly told me that a screenshot of the payment would have been enough. Well, it was not. Once I learnt this we went back to the pub to explain the situation and hopefully get some help but the young lady was too busy to put her lipstick on while saying they couldn't do anything and that we need to deal directly with the company. I am very disappointed. They could at least have shown some care but they didn't at the beginning nor when we told them that they were loosing customers. Very unprofessional, I am sorry because I used to like the place and angry because it could have been handled better.

We had a roast here, I had lamb shank, OH had turkey. It was delicious, plenty of nice fresh veg and best of all, crispy roasters. We do eat here often, but mainly lunch. The pub it's self is a bit tired but it's being refurbished in the new year. The food has never disappointed and its great value for money.

We have been going here for the last 8 years on a Christmas meal as a group of four friends. Although this year I had to do a lot more chasing up when it came to booking this meal and also getting a pre order to them (still didn’t have my pre order when we got there) but wasn’t a problem. That said the food was still really good and we had a lovely Christmas meal yet again. Even though it has recently been taken over it was nice to see a familiar face behind the bar who is always really friendly.

Had a nice meal recently at this pub.A week later had a nasty letter demanding £100.fine for ilegal parking in their car park i contacted the parking firm explaining i had a meal there they said i had not signed in, the staff did not mention i had to sign in they said ther were signs in the car park explaining this. It was a wet and windy night so i did not have time to read all their signs.eventually they reduced the fine to £20 so BE WARNED will not eat there again

Came to this pub after running a half marathon up and down the railway path. I live in Bath and this was my first time in Saltford. I came at 1:15pm on a Sunday, forgetting how popular Sunday lunches are in England. The owner was able to offer me a small table for 1 which did me fine. The staff were attentive and friendly, prices were incredible (compared to Bath anyway!). I had two pints and the lamb shank roast dinner for £30. The dinner was ready quickly, the staff didn’t mind I was in running gear, felt welcomed and enjoyed the meal immensely. I couldn’t recommend the pub more, I’ll for sure be back.

Had a pleasant meal of burger and chips whilst my wife had vegetable risotto. Food was good quality, bar staff were helpful and friendly and food was quick, hot and tasty 😋
