Limited food selection on Sunday, but the food is well cooked and the servings are large. The tap selection is excellent with cask ales and local ciders. The inside temperature is warm but not oppressive. The only downside is the common fishy smell found in English pubs, due to either poor ventilation or stale beer.

Staff were very friendly and the service was very good. Food however was expensive for what you received. I ordered fish n chips and when it came I was just amazed by its appearance. I large piece of battered fish balanced on about 8 chunky chips, a smear of pea puree and a small jug of tartar sauce. It was, to be honest, very ignorant and crude in its presentation. Included in the price of the meal was a complementary drink. I can't see the point. Surely it would be better to provide a more ample, attractive plate for the £20 you're charging rather than to detract from the mediocre dish with a gimmick.

It’s a bit too posh for my liking and the sort of place where a half pint isn’t half the price of a pint 🤔 and for some reason a shandy is the same price as a pint. Not sure why the strange pricing but it is a nice family style pub and food looks good.

Visited on Sunday of the bank holiday weekend with family. We have always eaten here and loved it, for the 20+ years. However, this Sunday was the exception. Not sure if the chef has changed but the chips were soggy and and not what I would class as a chip..more soggy mini roast potatoes and the cauliflower cheese was tasteless and dry. What has happened to the crispy chips and the most amazing cauliflower cheese???

This was our second visit to the Inn At Bath this year! It was every bit as charming and welcoming as it had been earlier this year. Kelly is wonderful and makes everyone feel right at home. We could walk to the cute shops and restaurants and walk along the water. We introduced the Inn to new family members who were just as impressed as we had been and still are. Anyone who finds themselves near Bath should try to stay there.

Fish and chips is a staple of most English pub menus and, as such, is a good barometer of the menu. Having just moved to the area I had been advised to try The Inn at Freshford. Two dishes caught my eye on their website, pork belly and a chicken ballotine. The pub can be difficult to find since so many of the local roads are closed for repair but it rewarded persistence. The pub lies in a quintessentially English river valley and despite the road closures it was well patronised when I visited on a Friday lunchtime. Unfortunately neither the belly of pork or chicken ballotine were available on the day’s menu but they were offering a free pint of bitter, Butcombe Original, with the battered fish and chips. The young bar staff were welcoming and the fast WiFi service allowed me to read the paper on my iPad while waiting for my meal to arrive. When it did arrive it was refreshing to see that the plate was not overwhelmed by a huge portion of chips but offered a sensible amount with a side of mushy peas. The batter was to die for, crisp and tasty, without overpowering the delicacy of the fish which had been perfectly cooked. It was the best plate of battered fish and chips I have had in years. I will return when they have pork belly back on the menu.

We went later on a Sunday afternoon for a Sunday Roast. Unfortunately the Duo of beef was sold out which would of been my preference, so went for the Pork instead. Has to be said it was pretty tasty with fantastic roast potatoes, the only grip I had was the yorkshires were a little over done for my liking but other than that it was spot on. We sat in the outside area round the back of the pub, luckily we were on the table that had timed heaters which made it to be a very pleasant experience. By the time we left we were the only ones there and the day past over to night. In all we enjoyed our food and then just chilling and chatting. When spring arrives that space will come alive and be a real hidden gem. dog friendly and plenty for the little ones to do as well 8/10

Saturday afternoon for a late lunch and the place was still very busy. Mix of walkers, locals, diners and dogs. (This is a very dog friendly pub and does well for it.) However the most noteworthy comment was the excellent service and standard of food which is cooked to order and came piping hot. The bar staff were totally 'on point' and our waiter couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant. I suspect the owners have worked hard to recruit the best staff available, as they certainly made a huge difference to our experience. Prices are not cheap, but they ARE good value.

This pub now pub cum bistro has changed, possibly with the times. It is in the lovely village of Freshford where I lived as an undergraduate. Then it was a village pub and fondly remembered. Now it is remodelled, more open-plan but still traditional and a good place for a meal with chums. The food is from a simple menu and well prepared. We came for lunch after a long walk as we were staying only a stones throw away. We sat in garden which is very pretty and family friendly. We weren't overly hungry so we ordered a few starters consisting of bread oil and olives, humus and bread, calamari and chips. We also ordered cheesy pasta from the children's menu for our little girl. The starters were nice. The calamari was a small portion and didn't have any flavour which was disappointing. The children's meal however was very large, large enough to feed an adult, so worth remembering for anyone visiting that wants to save a bit. But saying that, still expensive for a "childrens" meal. Was nice for a light lunch, but quite expensive.

As documented here by others, this place is spoiled by serving small portions at expensive prices with a discretionary 13% service charge. (13%!!). I wrote to the management following our visit to express our alarm regarding what they are doing. I have heard nothing back, not even an acknowledgement. Here’s a copy. “ Hello, I and some friends visited the pub earlier today for lunch. We have been several times before and really enjoyed your superb building, the location and the helpful staff. On our previous visits the food has been excellent and reasonable value. Today though our visit was marred by a couple of niggles which I think you should be aware of. Your main course pressed lamb and the cod with beans was dangerously close to being over priced and under portioned, so much so that we had to order additional carbohydrate side dishes at additional cost. At the prices you charge this should not have been necessary. Surely you must be aware that many of your lunchtime visitors are walkers or cyclists who will arrive hungry and are not going to be content with a tiny portion of over priced nouveau cuisine. There should always be room for good wholesome sensibly priced food on any pub menu, and no I don’t just mean fish and chips. Apart from the tiny portions, the food was tasty and well presented. Your staff were helpful and very pleasant. But the real kicker for us was your discretionary 13% service charge. (13%!!) We will never accept the same ludicrous situation as in the US where there is an expectation of an over inflated tip, defined by the establishment. We will just not be told what we are expected to tip, ‘discretionary’ or not. It’s insulting and it’s bullying and you are in serious danger of upsetting a large proportion of your customers at a stroke. We walk and lunch every week, and except in very egregious circumstances we always leave a tip. But we won’t be told by you or any other establishment what that tip should be. Several of us either reduced or removed the charge altogether, but we should never have needed to. It was notable that another of your customers advised us that she too had told you to remove the 13% from her bill. I do hope you can take this feedback in the constructive spirit it is intended. And I really do hope you will take actions which will allow us to return to the Inn at Freshford sometime in the near future.”
