Circus Cafe & Restaurant in Bath and North East Somerset

We have just had the best food we've had in years. We came here for a quick get away and liked the look of this restaurant and boy did it not disappoint. I rarely write reviews but feel these guys deserve it. The staff were so friendly and the food amazing, we literally couldn't fault anything. And will definitely be returning when we come to Bath again.

The beef for the main course was old and the fat content was very low. The vegetables that came with it were very bitter and hard to eat. Even the French fries were a bit hard and unpalatable. Apart from the presentation, it was okay. There was nothing special about it. The fried crab meat for the appetizer was just that The fried flour has a mushy texture. Not only can I not taste the starch in the meat, it is even a little sticky in my throat. Overall, I don’t recommend it.

Not knowing Bath at all we just picked this place pretty much at random. Waitress was very friendly & attentive & food we ordered from the set menu was very good. I particularly enjoyed my flat iron steak which was cooked perfectly. Happily eat there again if the opportunity arises.

Lovely restaurant set between The Royal Crescent and The Circus. Buzzy atmosphere, good food, friendly service. Will return.

Fab service, great food, can't fault it. I was initially disappointed with the lack of green veg on the sides menu. As someone who eats keto, 3 types of potatoes didn't cut it for me. But they were extremely accommodating and switched out chips for broccolini. I can highly recommend the cashew cream beetroot starter and the steaks were cooked to perfection. Highly recommended.

The problem is going somewhere with a great reputation, it sometimes doesn't live up to expectation. Service was brilliant but I felt the food was not as good as we'd hoped. Might try again one day.

Exceptional. Staff were incredibly attentive and all had excellent knowledge of the menu. The restaurant is only a short walk from The Circus, so you’re able to take in the fantastic site before dinner. I had the parsnip soup to start, a perfect blend of Indian styled seasonings and parsnip gave way to a perfectly spiced experience on the tongue. Then for my Main I had the venison pie. Very delicious and hearty meal. Essentially an incredibly rich piece of venison wrapped around light pastry. The accompany purée accented the flavour well. My only criticism is that it may be a tad dry, perhaps slightly more gravy/sauce in the pie itself would be beneficial. For pudding I had the crème brûlée. A masterclass in balance, between the sweet taste of the cream and cinnamon savoury flavours of the nut topping. I shall be returning.

Lovely atmosphere, really friendly and helpful staff (shoutout to Rosy!) and the food was absolutely delicious. Every course was well presented, well portioned and tasted fantastic. 100% recommend!

My wife/I went for a pre-theatre dinner on a recent Friday evening. Everything about the meal was excellent. The food itself: We went for the fixed price pre-theatre menu. We both chose butterflied sardines as a starter, followed by flat iron steak for my wife, and venison for me. every plate was perfect - attractively presented, exactly the right size and most importantly, very tasty. And at very fair prices for food of this quality. The restaurant/atmosphere: Modern, informal and calm. A nice atmosphere. The location: close to the buzzy bits of Bath, but on a quite quiet road. Unsurprisingly very close to The Circus. The service: The young lady who served us was excellent. She knew the dishes and gave helpful advice. She was attentive, and when she asked if everything was OK it felt genuine, not the all-to-common uninterested question you often get. And she had an uncanny knack of knowing exactly when to come to our table.

Food and drink both excellent. Our waiter Emma, was knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. The sardines with nduja were particularly good.

Me and my daughter went to this wonderful restaurant. The food was fantastic, and the staff so friendly and could not do enough for you. We had a lovely waitress Rosy who made our evening amazing. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

To be completely honest it wasn't worth the hype. The decor is really tired upstairs and the lighting for evenings is bad - no ambience at all. I had the brie croquettes to start - tasted pretty bad and I'm generally not fussy about these things. Mains were ok but nothing special. Feel like the menu needs to be reviewed. Shame because it's a great location and service was good but overall was a disappointing visit.

As usual, we had a really excellent meal here. Great cooking and The service is fantastic, best waitresses I have encountered anywhere in a long lifetime of visiting restaurants.

Looks small from the outside , there's additional seating downstairs. The upstairs is like being in somebody's living room. The food is fantastic and some very interesting dishes , it's not the cheapest place but the food is well worth it. Would recommend without hesitation unless you are on a tight budget.

We had a wonderful time at The Circus restaurant. Our server was very nice and helpful. Wonderful drink menu and an ample wine list. We highly recommend the venison!

Had lunch here last Tuesday.Am pleased to say that is is the same excellent restaurant. Food was interesting, properly cooked. We had the set lunch. Excellent value and a good choice, it includes a glass of house wine and a bread with olive oil dip. The staff were a delight.Could not recommend it more.

I was staying in guest house nearby and wanted to have a drink and not go to far, after a lovely wine the staff gave me advise on where to go locally and safely as a sole traveler, very friendly no bother I really appreciated the time that they took. The food looked and smelt amazing and I definitely will be staying in sane place again and making sure I stop for a meal the set menu was fantastic, thank you for a warm welcome I will be back

Perfect in every way. The menu is well chosen and the food is cooked to perfection. We were served by Valerio who was terrific.

The service was excellent. For starters we had the coconut chowder which was delicious and the Brie croquettes that we liked them a lot. For mains we had the ribeye steak which was very well cooked but the quality of meat was average. For dessert we had the crème brûlée with raspberry and peach, that in our opinion the fruit was distracting the good quality of the crème and the chocolate millefeuille which was good. We would like to go back and try other mains.

lovely spot, venison was cooked to perfection although the celeriac apple terrine was a bit flat. Butterflied sardines were superb as was the chocolate mille-feuille Service & atmosphere was excellent. Fairly priced too. Lovely meal - all round props to the team!

Truly fab evening with 3 October birthdays! The welcome and attentive service throughout was excellent. The menu choices, interesting and varied. Beautiful presentation and cooking. Reasonably priced too. 2 course plus wine circa £52pp, well worth it!

Must visit restaurant when you go in Bath, UK. Michelin star restaurant and truly has the best steaks I've ever tasted. Most importantly, the prices are really competitive for a multi-awarded restaurant.Every food we've ordered is so amazingly delicious! Definitely coming back here.

Our lucky day, that was Emma mentioned and it was true; Marco was excellent guide throughout this gastronomic adventure. We were waking and suddenly found The Circus. Without any reservation we were lucky. It was not only a great dinner but also the best from our travel. We will be back, some day

Amazing food and service! Visited on a Saturday lunch time with family. Couldn't fault a thing. We had crab dumplings, duck and tandoori monkfish to start. Followed by a flat iron steak, rump steak and a pork tenderloin. We finished with a dark chocolate nemesis and some cheeses! Will definitely be returning to try an autumn or winter menu!

I went back to the Circus with some friends to celebrate my birthday. Everything was perfect. The food was amazing. We were really well looked after. Thank you!

Everything was delicious. The cantaloupe gazpacho and dark chocolate nemesis were outstanding.

We had lunch at this place and were thoroughly impressed. The prices were reasonable, the atmosphere was inviting, and the service was exceptional. Our waitress Rosy was incredibly attentive, which made our experience even more enjoyable. The food was outstanding, bursting with a variety of flavors and textures. We’ll definitely be returning!

We went to The Circus for lunch after it being recommended to us by our hotel, and it did not disappoint! My partner dined a la carte and I chose the set menu, both of which had several tasty options for great value. I would recommend dining in the downstairs of the restaurant as it had a lovely atmosphere. Despite being the only diners downstairs on a Friday lunchtime (it was a very sunny day!) we were definitely not forgotten about by our lovely waitress Emma who was so friendly and knowledgeable about the food as well as the area!

What a fantastic night we had in this resteraunt, service good, food very good, atmosphere really good, next time I visit bath I will certainly book there again and again....keep up the good work...

All I need say is Highly Recommended.

Unfortunately, after the restaurant we had actually chosen no longer accepted any new guests, we ended up here by chance. And that turned out to be a stroke of luck. The meals were simply delicious. In Germany you have to look for a long time to find a restaurant where not only all parts of the food are optimally prepared, but also the individual flavor components are perfectly combined and coordinated.

Up to now, this is the best restaurant I experienced in the UK in the last 3 years. In term of services, food, presentation, wine list, price and quality. Had such a lovely dinner here with my parents! The food was yummy and the service was amazing, didn’t catch her name but our server was a lovely Romanian woman who made us feel very comfortable and happy!

We recently enjoyed our second visit to The Circus Restaurant. We had the monkfish & crab dumplings, flat iron steak & pork, then creme brulee and pannacotta. This time we sat downstairs, where there is a different feel - homely and cosy. The food was delicious, the service good and our waitress Emma, friendly and very informative about the menu. Would thoroughly recommend.

This was such a cute little restaurant with the most amazing food. From the parm ham appetizers, to the amazing pork roast and fish of the day special, everything was top notch. Our waitress, Emma, was so helpful and resourceful - we thought the trains back to London would be disrupted the next morning due to the Euro Cup games, and Emma went out of their way to give us phone numbers to alternative travel options. She was so quick and accurate with our meal and very friendly. Food was outstanding. This is another ‘must visit’ place on your list.

It looks unprepossessing from the outside, but we took a chance based on reviews and a "look and talk" with the staff. The ground floor space is in the style of a simple lunchtime restaurant, but downstairs is elegant and refined. The menu is interesting and varied, the flavours well thought out. Service was efficient and matter of fact. An excellent meal at a reasonable price.

What a little gem! My husband and i went to bath to celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary and had the most wonderful time at this restaurant, everyone is so kind and welcoming and our waitress Ellie was fantastic, so friendly, wonderful advice on food, wine and also places to visit while we were on our stay at Bath. As for the wine and food "wow" absolutely beautiful !! Cooked beautifully and we will definitely go back to this restaurant whe we visit bath again. Thank you Ellie for making our night so perfect

Entrées were great - we got the steak and chips, and pan fried pollock with orzo salad. Very well executed. Highlight of the night!! Apps and dessert were so so. We got bacalhau and mackerel as apps, and sorbet for dessert. Bacalhau were too salty compared to the ones I had in Portugal. Would suggest to skip apps and desserts. Restaurant is in a tastefully decorated Georgian house so it feels elegant and classy. Good service.

Simply the best place I've eaten in the UK. Super pleasant atmosphere. Wonderful food (I ordered meat and it was cooked correctly), as well as the drink (I rarely had a good lemonade in Europe and it was great there) and the PERFECT service. Ellie is lovely. An unmissable restaurant!

Excellent restaurant, the staff is very friendly and the dishes are high quality and delicious. Special mention for the Brazilian feijoada-style pork, a delight.

Incredible. Maybe my new favorite restaurant of all time. What a delight. The pea and wild garlic soup was the perfect appetizer and the lamb was perfectly cooked with perfect and creative accompaniments. I may have to make the trek from London again just to eat here again.

The ambiance at The Cirvus was undeniably pleasant. The décor was tasteful, and the overall atmosphere felt inviting. It was a welcome respite from the usual hustle and bustle of the city. Here's where things get a little...interesting. The food? Let's just say it was a standout. In a week of exploring the city's culinary offer, dishes were some of the most memorable. The flavors were well-balanced, the ingredients fresh, and the presentation was delightful. A true testament to the culinary skills of the kitchen staff I would say. However, the service, while undeniably attentive, bordered on the theatrical. The waitstaff's smiles seemed permanently etched on their faces, a bit too bright and a touch too wide to be entirely genuine. Their kindness, while excessive, was certainly well-meaning. Every interaction felt like a performance, complete with overly enthusiastic greetings and constant hovering. It was a bit like dining in the midst of a particularly energetic theatrical number Don't get me wrong, good service is essential, but there's a fine line between attentive and intrusive. A much more subtlety and genuinely from the waitstaff would have elevated the dining experience from good to truly exceptional.

Amazing in every way! We were served by Rosy and had a great meal. I cannot fault any part of it. The service throughout was friendly, giving recommendations and suggestions throughout. When we were choosing a wine Rosy got some for us to taste to ensure we would be happy with it. The food was exquisite! We all had steaks and the accompanying items were all excellent. The desserts were amazing too. I was so happy with every item on the plate. The atmosphere was lovely too. I cannot recommend The Circus enough.

Highly recommend this place, we like decent food that doesn’t cost the earth. Service was fab, they were very attentive. Food was amazing! We had mussels and pigeon to start, both were delicious! Then for main fish kedgeree and flat iron steak again both were absolutely delicious! Couldn’t fault it!

Went there as part of my wife’s 50th birthday celebrations in Bath. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the evening. Food, drink outstanding. Service was brilliant - even to the extent of providing us with name of the manufacturer of their drinks glasses, which were a really unusual design. Will definitely be rebooking when we next come to Bath- unfortunately it won’t be in the near future because of the distance we live away, but the circus restaurant is definitely one of our reasons to return! Thanks very much indeed.

What a gem of a restaurant - firstly the waiting staff are second to none and very friendly. Very helpful with the menu and chatty. I was thinking of going with the trout for starters but advised to get on the mussels and wasn’t disappointed. Outstanding. Main was the rib eye steak and this was absolutely banging. If you like a very very good steak - order the is med rare. Emma the waitress served us and like I said, very helpful friendly and chatty. When in Bath I will Definitely be returning
