I loved my experience in what is the oldest pub in the city. The place is quite small, so I recommend booking if you want to make sure you have a place, easily made via the site. Live music, you can breathe a wonderful Scottish air. I tasted the typical dishes of the nation and I was not disappointed as well as the delicious Belhaven. Excellent price. Highly recommended

Enjoyed this historic pub right on Glassmarket Street in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle. Even on a Monday night, they were filled with a mix of locals and tourists. We were lucky and got two seats at the bar, so I advise getting a booking, especially if you have a group. It is one of the best selections of Bellhaven beers we have seen, including on Cask. It also has a nice selection of Scotch. We hadn’t expected live music but were treated to a fun musician playing a wide variety of traditional Scottish music and other more modern tunes. It was a perfect end to our trip to Edinburgh.

The White Hart Inn claims the title of oldest pub in Edinburgh, with parts of the building and cellar dating back to 1516. Unfortunately we didn't eat or drink anything as the kitchen would take a looong time to serve and we were hungry, but I liked the place .

Mediocre... If you want to eat or drink at the White Hart Inn, you better move on! Firstly, if you hope to have a table there, you will need to reserve at least 24 hours in advance on the site. Once there, we had lukewarm beers... Not very serious. Then, we wanted to eat: five dishes at most on the menu (some of which were out of stock that evening). A good thirty minutes later, the waiter brought us our plates; the quantities were really minimal. For my part, £17 for a ladleful of mash and two "wild boar" sausages of around 10cm (they were clearly not game sausages). Similar for my friends (a handful of mussels and two slices of bread for one, a ladle of rice and a ladle of chili for the other). Result: £85 for a beer, a cider, two cokes, two plates of sausage mash, a chilli and a plate of mussels... We were still hungry when we left the "oldest bar in Edinburgh". Clearly an overpriced tourist trap for good food but nothing more.

I had an incredible experience at White Hart Inn. The atmosphere was filled with the charm of live Scottish folk music during the evening on Sunday, played beautifully by Euan, whose talent brought such a special touch to the night. The staff was also very kind and attentive, ensuring everything was perfect. And the haggis? The best I’ve ever had! This was honestly one of the best experiences of my life, and I’m truly grateful for it. Thank you once again, Euan – I hope our paths cross again soon!

Leider kein Tennants Bier, eigentlich unser Favorit. This is a clear cut example of a place where it's history is its main attraction. Being one of the oldest standing pubs will always attract customers but unfortunately they don't seem to care to retain customers. I can accept there is no table service but the waiters were rude, clearly did not want to be there. We had to request to have our table cleaned (was super sticky) and previous cups and plates to be picked up. Didn't provide any napkins with our meal. After asking multiple times, the waitress finally brought some after we had already finished our meal. Do yourself a favor and go to The Last Drop or Maggie Dicksons down the street instead.

Iconic Edinburgh pub with limited seating, good food and Belhaven on tap. Fueled up after the castle experience which is 5 minutes away. Only gripe is that the outside tables are on a sloping pathway and because the table tops are hard plastic the drinks literally slide off, as happened to one punter. It wouldn't take much to cost the tables in a non slip surface to address the issue.

We just had to stop at this iconic pub and we had a blast! Things we loved: - located on a very lively street just a block or so away from Bow Street (inspiration for Harry Potter) with some fun shops (geared towards tourists, yes, but still fun!) - small but great selection of spirits - entertaining atmosphere with live music starting around 9 (21:00) at night - cozy but not crowded - outdoor tables as well - used brand name mixers Things to note: - no table service, not a huge deal for us since we found seats at the bar and totally understandable considering the sheer amount of people they were serving but it could be inconvenient if you were seated outdoors - it was different that we poured our own tonic into our drinks. Not bad, just different from what we’re used to. - beyond drinks needing lemon/orange and a standard tonic/club soda/ginger beer mixer, The White Hart does not make cocktails.

I’m sure it’s a great pub usually, but don’t bother coming here for food during Fringe. The menu’s been reduced down to about six meals, at least two of which were not available. The meals that came out were nothing like what’s pictured in the google reviews. The Mac and cheese looked like a side dish, with a garden salad on the side that had one piece of tomato and cucumber. The bangas were missing a few of the ingredients listed on the menu and were average. Meals were about 20 quid each and left you needing another meal an hour later. Was all quite comical and we couldn’t help but laugh about it.

We ordered the steak pie, took around 28mins to arrive which is fair enough, we had plenty of time to wait, but then the pie arrived completely burnt top side, and with empty gravy boat!! Took us a minute as we couldn’t understand what’s the empty gravy boat for.. then when the waiter came round I asked what’s the metal pot (gravy boat) for when he hilariously rolled his eyes and said there should be gravy in those. Then when he came back with the gravy, I was even more shocked it was literally water with a hint of brown colour(attached a photo) Anyway we were in a such a good mood that I thought whatever, I work in a hospitality,I’m not going to complain.. but then!!!! I realised I’m missing the mash too, so asked the waited where is the mash ( and asked for thicker gravy too at the same time) to what he answered “do you even want the mash, can I just give you free drinks instead” and that the chef has said he will not be making a new gravy as it’s the way it should be. We just took the free drinks to be honest and laughed it off. Not gonna a lie we both laughed and said that the chef must be drunk haha! Funny but not funny…

We started our trip with two evenings and one full day before exploring the country side and came back to do the same when we left. We stumbled across the White Hart Inn on our first evening. We loved the musician playing and I sure loved the ales they had on tap. Maybe it was the delicious beers, the atmosphere or the music. But we fell in love with this place. Every night we were in Edinburgh we ended up there eventually closing the place down every evening we were in town. The pub was well designed and loved the Frankenstein coming down from the ceiling. The drinks were delicious but for a gothic pub we found that the music was awful. It was the type of music you'd expect to hear being played at a club for people in their late teens early twenties. Not the music you'd expect in a gothic pub

Awful treatment, the blonde woman waitress said there is a low that they don't serve you drinks if we don't order food but the table next to us they were with a dog and drinks,no food, so they treat you better if you are with animals than with kids, don't recommend this place.
