The White Hart Inn Restaurant in Edinburgh, City of

Really cozy spot that was pretty full during my visit and had some great local live music in the corner. Edinburgh has some incredible pubs in the most touristy sections of town where you wouldn't expect such quality. Great menu, friendly staff, and some quality beers on draft/cask. Despite the central location, don't hesitate to stop by for a pint or some food.

Nothing against the Pub in general, but when the people (staff included) inside can't even spend a round of applause for the (really good) musician, something feels odd. +1 for the friendly bouncer

Location in one of the most beautiful areas of Edinburgh Old Town... I'm sorry I never managed to sit down in all the times we tried. Always very popular. Live music after 7pm... looks like a lot of fun. To return

Amazing atmosphere with fabulous food. The traditional Mac and Cheese is delicious and the cottage pie is to die for. The Belhaven Best made any care about the dreary drizzling day disappear.

Oldest pub in Edinburgh (500 years old), great service, everyone is kind. You can eat delicious food and enjoy lots of Scottish beers. They have live music almost every night, we had an amazing night!

Nice place, not the best Irish coffee though

Not pleased at all with our experience at the white Hart. We walked in on Thursday late afternoon, the waiter at the bar wasnt smiling or friendly, he told us we couldn't get food as we weren't sitting at table, only at the bar due to no table available. After 20 min we found a table, sat and I went to order the food and was told couldn't order food because the chef is on his break. The waitress didn't even say for how long or advise on anything. Very poor customer service.

The best pub in Edinburgh! It will be our go to going forwards. Nice mix of locals and tourists, very cozy with rich history. The food is exceptionally good, way above any pub food we’ve ever tried. And it’s a truly dog friendly place which we loved. But it’s the staff that really makes this place stand out! In particular Susie, she is a ray of sunshine and her energy is infectious. So attentive and efficient! Susie, we hope you had a lovely birthday this week! Looking forward to hear about it when we next come back.

We got two pints of beer and two dishes and paid £50! The place may be nice and charming but honestly it's absolutely not worth it

Me and my gf went here for lunch on Friday. The food was great! I had the steak pie and my gf had the haggis. Would recommend both. I even became a guinea pig for a new IPA they had. All the staff were nice and friendly

An amazing place, you can feel the atmosphere of all ages. After visiting the castle, we went to rest and regenerate. The place did not disappoint, delicious food, very nice service and amazing atmosphere. A place worth visiting 👍🍻

Just popped in here for a quick drink while we waited for our restaurant table elsewhere to become available. Looking at the menu, will have to come back here to eat. Great atmosphere and really friendly staff.

Amazing atmosphere and brilliant food

This was our second time in the pub in two years time. We love Edinburgh and the people of Scotland. This pub is the best start (or end) of the Scottish experience.

What a great place to pop in and warm up. So cozy. I suggest the Hot Toddy. So good.

As a tourist in May. My Wife and I decided to stop in and have a bite and brew. We had no problems. As we sat outside to people watch and relax for a bit. Steak and Ale pie was served hot and the beer cold. Service was very good to us. No complaints here.

Yup, really old. Good beer selection for us thirsty travelers. Helpful service too.

Arrived for our booked table, wasn't acknowledged by staff even though there were several stood behind the bar chatting. Had to move round the bar to get someone's attention but were finally seated and served for drinks. Menu is limited which we already knew. Ordered a starter and our main meals but bizarrely they were all served at the same time so we didn't really get chance to enjoy our starter of baked camembert as our main meal was going cold so had to eat it all at once. Food was ok though. The lights in the pub also kept dimming/tripping out! Wasn't sure if this was an intentional quirk or overloaded circuits. Would recommend for a drink as the self titled oldest pub in Edinburgh - they have a large selection of whiskies and spirits as well as cask ales as you would expect. My husband enjoyed his hot toddy.

Nos encantaba ir allí por las ginebras calientes que están súper buenas. No llegamos a comer pero la comida tenía buena pinta, sobre todo el pastel de carne, que según vimos, es lo que más salía.

Great little find. Friendly staff. Butternut soup was a great winter warmer at lunch time followed by cheese on toast which was a little disappointing. The cheese on toast said it came with pickle, I had 2 bits of onion, bot really a pickle. But good size portions. A nice pint and great atmosphere.

Venu ici pour boire un verre devant un match de rugby. Pub assez connu dans un quartier assez fréquenté, donc vite blindé. Malgré son succès, les prix sont raisonnables. Bon choix de bière. Pas forcément fan de l'agencement des lieux par rapport aux TV qui n'est pas optimisé (à moins d'être dans les tout premiers arrivés, vous ne verrez pas trop). Le staff est sympa mais sert les habitués en priorité.

I visited a month ago with a friend who was visiting from abroad; I wanted to take her to a pub in Edinburgh. I had read great reviews online about the White Hart, so we popped in here one evening. I just wanted to say; it was such a pleasant visit! Although it is perhaps a little small, there were a few spaces still (on a Saturday at 8 as well), but there were plenty of customers there. It is absolutely charming, cosy and the staff were very welcoming. It is in the Grassmarket, on the same side as Dancebase, the pubs and restaurants (not the hotel side), and there are people around at night; it’s not too quiet. Would definitely go there again. I hope you have a lovely time there too and that you like it as much as we did.

Sicherlich ein hübsches Pub und für jeden Touri ein Besuch wert. Für mich persönlich ist die Bierauswahl etwas knapp. An einem Samstagmittag zwei Cask Ales und eins davon Abbot. Die beiden anderen Casks waren noch nicht getauscht. Und ansonsten Guinness und Co…

What an absolutely beautiful tavern that has kept its old fashioned feel for so long. It’s not a big place but it’s very nice. Pulls a cracking pint of Scottish stout.

This is the oldest pub in Edinburgh!! 500 years old. It’s quaint it’s charming and you can find Kris and Miller there. They are two of the best barkeeps around. It is in the Grass Market and they will tell you stories of hangings and murder. They also serve food, have many beers on tap and…lots of whiskey. Do stop in, I enjoyed a Jameson orange 🍊 tody.

Actually I didn’t want to write a review but I have the feeling I had to. I am sad. I’m coming over to Scotland since 15 years, minimum 2 times a year. The White Hart in was always my favorite pub. Here my daughter had her first Mac & Cheese, I had my first haggis and my first Whisky. But one week ago I was shocked. What happened to you? Noted it’s possible to do reservations now. We always found a cosy corner there before without but we gave it a try. So you are sitting at your table and the first thing is a sign saying new reservation in 2 hours. This certainly doesn’t make you feel welcome. Eat - pay and than please vanish. The steak pie we always loved before was not up to the usual high standard. To be honest, it was the worst steak pie we ever had in Scotland. The pastry was overcooked and dry, hardly no meat to find in it. Reminds us of a frozen pie out of a cheep supermarket. The staff did the job but with no love and no soul. We decided to leave as soon we payed and had some good beers served by welcoming staff round the corner. After 15 years this maybe was our last time in the White Hart Inn.

Lovely little pub, can get busy so be willing to wait or book ahead. Susie and the staff are warm and friendly, a must visit when you come to Edinburgh.

Popped in on a dreich Thursday afternoon, instantly warmed up by the ambience and tasty whisky recommend by Suzie. Never thought I would enjoy a peated whisky but I am converted by the ledaig 10. Live music was great as well, well worth a visit if you are in Edinburgh

This ancient tavern, in Edinburgh’s vibrant Grassmarket, is an oasis for convivial conversation in partaking of a refreshing beverage (or two). On offer is an extensive array of malt whiskies, a selection of craft gins, and tasty cask ales. The pub grub menu features traditional standards such as haggis, neeps & champit tattles, or succulent steak & ale pie, served in generous portions. Service is friendly and responsive. In the evenings, there is live music entertainment.

Probably, visiting the White Hart for dinner on a Friday night was not an inspired decision. However, it was high on our list of things to do in Edinburg because of its history. If you're going here for the food you'll probably be disappointed. The menu is pretty much just like all of the other "corporate" pubs in the city...okay, but not special, and without much variety. But if you really want to sit and immerse yourself in the history and classic looks of the place, and to tip a glass in the home of giants, then I think you'll do fine. But do make a reservation, and try to do it on a weeknight. Oh, and thanks to whoever held our table for us (with our name on a card) even though we were 15 minutes late for our reservation. Coming in from the pouring rain, it's hard to express how grateful we were.
